After Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro passed a series of measures making it easier to own firearms, the number of gun owners in that nation soared. But Bolsonaro lost a reelection campaign earlier this year to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and a spokesman for Lula said he plans to not only reverse those measures when he takes office next year but tax or maybe even ban gun ownership.

Anybody else having a problem with the commenting system this morning? I try flagging all the spambot comments that appear just to get rid of them on my screen but the system this morning only lets me flag one comment per thread and when I refresh the page the spambot comment is back. I've tried logging out and logging back in to no avail. Are the spambots generating all of Reason's revenue now so they've stopped your ability to get rid of them?

the crazy thing is Brazil had a extremly high gun murder rate, far higher than the US some 50,000+ a year and not including suicides that were perpetrated with guns that were all illegal there. Brazil new they couldn't control the crime or protect its citizens so they allowed personal gun owner ship and now crime has dropped. clearly this new president is part of the criminal organizations as many have said if he wants to take guns away now.
