Review: Is Andor the Most Political Live-Action Star Wars Release?
Star Wars remains an epic tale of good vs. evil, but underneath the myth are ordinary human motivations.

Star Wars has always been an epic myth about a rebellion ("the Rebel Alliance") against a tyrannical government ("the Empire"). The initial installment of the series came out in 1977, in the immediate aftermath of the Vietnam War, and the series nodded to a scrappy-underdogs-vs.-powerful institutions political sensibility. But by and large, the actual politics were left unexplored.
A prequel trilogy that began in 1999 fleshed out some more of the backstory, including senate machinations and arcane disputes over trade policy, and the 2016 prequel Rogue One advanced some of the Vietnam vibes and hinted at factionalism among the rebels. Even still, these were political stories in name only; the particular substance of the disputes was beside the point.
Star Wars: Andor, a streaming series on Disney+, isn't exactly a congressional floor debate in Star Wars form, but it's arguably the most politically attuned live-action entry in the Star Wars franchise. Taking place five years before the events of Rogue One, it's the story of the origins of the Rebel Alliance, with an emphasis on alliance: As it turns out, anti-government rebels all have their own reasons for opposing tyranny, some political, some personal, some both. In Andor, Star Wars remains an epic tale of good vs. evil, but underneath the myth are ordinary human motivations.

Suderman thinks a space opera released 2 years after the fall of Saigon was a metaphor for Vietnam AND that the North Vietnamese were a plucky band of rebels facing off against an empire despite being backed by the expansionist communist USSR in a proxy war with the United States whose foreign "empire" consisted of Puerto Rico and Guam. I guess George Lucas was right when he said it was a movie for 12 year olds. Of all ages.
That's what happens when you spend too much time in DC. Your brain turns to Jell-o
I have even managed $20,000 per calendar month by simply working some easy tasks from my apartment. As I had lost my office career, I was very disturbed but luckily I’ve discovered this best on-line career that’s why I’m capable of earning a thousand USD just from home. Each person can avail this best offer & collect more greenbacks online

It was just a fun movie.
Agreed. Star Wars has much more to do with Flash Gordon than Vietnam.
Guess Flash was going against the Ming Empire though.

the North Vietnamese were a plucky band of rebels
They weren't rebels, they fought under the flag of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Ultimately soldiers in the NVA and irregulars in the Viet Cong (those guys were the rebels but they were also irrelevant by 1975) were nationalists (albeit of an evil flavor), in a (mostly) ethnically homogeneous region that was arbitrarily chopped in two. The Vietnamese people were promised a free election for reunification at the 1954 Geneva Conference. That promise was breached, repeatedly, so the communists decided to force the issue. Without all of this we may never have had Star Wars and certainly not Apocalypse Now.
Excellent work, Mike. I admire your work since because to one simple online job, I’m now making over $35,100 each month! I am aware that you are currently earning a sizable ecd20 sum of money online from a starting capital of $28,800.

The inclusion of that caveat implies that there are one or more cartoons that are more politically attuned than this movie. Not having paid any attention to the franchise, I wonder which ones those would be.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves had a Leninest theme. The dwarves were Snow White's captive laborers and weren't really dwarves, they were small because she starved them. Sleepy was delibrately sleep deprived and dopey was an untreated fentanyl addict. Snow White's constant ridicule was what kept them in line; she crushed their respective wills and methodically marched them to their deaths.
Rebels.
Yep. The plucky rebels take on the evil empire, are arrested and jailed without bond, convicted by a jury of people dependent on the empire, and jailed.
Thanks for this, Pete. My eye muscles were needing a work out.

Yeah, the prequels had a character named Newt Gingrich and some fairly overt commentary on George W Bush and the War on Terror. I don’t think there’s anything novel here.

What kind of fucking “review” is this?
It’s a very brief, light description of one small angle, at best.
Andor was brilliant, and quite libertarian.
Andor is proof that their small screen writers/team can put out better content than the pure garbage their big name, big screen writers/team put out.
