Christine Gauthier, a paraplegic former member of the Canadian army, told members of the House of Commons that she contacted Veterans Affairs Canada trying to find out why it was taking so long to get a wheelchair ramp in her home. She said she got a letter back offering her assisted suicide instead. "I have a letter saying that if you're so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAID, medical assistance in dying," said Gauthier. Gauthier said she has been trying to get the ramp for five years.

Without knowing the rest of her story, and acknowledging that a wheelchair ramp is part of the expected compensation for having your young legs blown off in a desert…
…she’s been waiting five years for the canuck government to build her a ramp? Like they are the only people in the world who can possibly apply nails to plywood, and she has no idea how to make a ramp happen other than sucking on the government teat? Rather than being a story about how shitty the government is at delivering services, this should be a story about how helplessly dependent those in government want their vassals to be, and how they are succeeding. Either that or it’s clickbait and written in a loaded manner to get people like me fired up.

It being Canada, you probably need a permit from the Provencial government to build a wheelchair ramp, preceded by an inspection to assure that the ramp won’t interfere with migrating beavers or some such.

Oh, and you can't get the permit until the government has agreed to build the ramp for you.
