Brickbat: Irish Eyes

The Irish government has vowed to pass by the end of the year the Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offenses Bill, which would make speech and other communication that could incite hatred on the basis of color, disability, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, gender, sex characteristics, or sexual orientation illegal even if that speech does not actually incite violence or hatred. The law would also make it illegal to possess material that could incite hatred.

So they'er banning Jameson?
Probably.
But they’re starting with banning the possession (on any cloud, recording media or device or temporarily by streaming service or visit to a cinema) all Phase 4 Marvel movies and TV shows, all Disney Star Wars films or shows (especially the sequel trilogy), and de facto 85% of all Hollywood productions over the last 10 years.
I approve the ban on Rings Of Power, the final episode of GOT, and all the odd numbered Star Trek films.
An Irishman walks into a bar....
… and Gerald Fitzpatrick meets Patrick Fitzgerald, and they find out that they fit each other just dandy! Butt then they get kicked out of the bar, for performing a “fit test” in pubic! It was NOT that kind of bar, ya know!

You didn't do that right.
Hear about the two gay Irishmen?
Michael FitzPatrick and Patrick FitzMichael.
There's nothing an Irishman hates more than another Irishman so this ought to work out well. "Top o' the mornin' to ye, Seamus!" "Right, off to the hoosegow wit' ya, ya bastard!"
So trans-gender advocacy, offensive to most religions, will be banned? Likewise, all the hatred directed towards Christians by the homosexual community must end? Not to mention the minor differences between Catholic and Protestant will not longer be spoken?
Meesa be thinkin' mostly no.
I for one am hoping they actually try to enforce this, and that every election swings the other way, so eventually all those with the gift of gab are also gifted with gaol.
Only if it *could* incited hatred. And of course it will the government who gets to decide if it does or does not incite the hatred that they imagine.
I've been against "hate crime" laws since they started a few decades ago. One cannot objectively determine what is or is not "hate", so it's left up to the agents of a biased government to decide. It leaves open a door that could potentially ban any speech at all.
So in Ireland I can no longer whistle Colonel Bogey's March, because it implies Hitler only had one ball, a clear mockery of one of his sexual characteristics.
I hate this law, so does that make me guilty for having the hatred or them for inciting it?
This is what happens when you do not have a First Amendment.
" " " " " " " " " " Second Amendment.
" " " .... [you get my drift; but only so long as the Constitution is respected, otherwise it is just a quaint document]
Until the politicians are afraid of being shot, these infringements on natural liberties will continue.

Ireland is the one nation I know of that just might enforce such a law against Muslims.

So Monty Python's "Never Be Rude To An Arab" can never be played in Ireland?
I once read about a community of Vietnamese immigrants in Ireland. Does that make them Rice Paddys?
