White House Deletes Tweet Praising Biden for Inflation

In a now-deleted tweet, the official White House Twitter account attempted to frame a mandated cost-of-living increase in Social Security checks as the result of President Biden's good "leadership."

Seniors will receive their largest increase in Social Security Benefits in 10 years. That's incredible news! Well, not exactly—though the official White House Twitter account might try to persuade you otherwise.

On Monday, the White House Twitter account announced that "seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden's leadership." However, the account quickly deleted the tweet after commenters pointed out the obvious: the increase wasn't due to Biden's leadership, but the rapid inflation occurring under his watch—which is massively increasing the cost of goods and services for American seniors, thus requiring under federal law that they receive larger checks.

Over the past 12 months, inflation has stayed troublingly high—rising as high as 9.1 percent in July—leading to widespread anxiety about the nation's economic future. A recent Gallup poll found that 49 percent of respondents listed "the economy" as "extremely important" for their voting choices.

Adding to the turmoil, the government will have to beef up Social Security spending for the program by 8.7 percent to account for the rising cost of goods and services. Following a 1972 law signed by President Nixon, the value of Social Security checks is tied to annual inflation. However, this increased spending is likely to ramp up Social Security's race toward insolvency, with The New York Times reporting that "budget experts warn that the reserves could run out before 2034 as a result of the larger benefits."

Before the White House tweet was deleted, Twitter allowed "reader commentary" to appear below it, alerting viewers that "seniors will receive a large increase in Social Security benefits due to the national cost of living adjustment, which is based on the inflation rate."

This size of the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment highlights the impact that rising inflation is having on ordinary Americans, who are paying 8 percent more for goods and services than they were a year ago. But maybe don't call it leadership?

Yes, it is "occurring under his watch" It just happened. It is just bad luck. Whatever you do, reason don't hold Uncle Joe accountable for anything. Nope. He means well. He just had bad luck. He didn't do anything to cause this inflation. We will never know why it is happening.

    Go die in fire Reason.

They aren't absolving him of responsibility for the inflation. They're just saying that it wasn't part of "let's give all the olds some more money" kindness of his heart but a byproduct of his own bad policies.

      1. Sevo   3 years ago

        Yep.
Biden did not plan on inflation; his stupidity is so abysmal that he simply doesn't understand the results of his actions.

BTW, we had a POTUS who managed to avoid inflation almost entirely; TDS-addled shit piles made sure we got this asshole. What was your take on him again?

      3. Sevo   3 years ago

Still waiting to hear how you did your best to avoid this.

      4. Sevo   3 years ago

Noob, you seem to be quiet regarding your efforts in this issue.

Hey, noob shit; tell us how you're recovering from a raging case of TDS, asshole.

      Inflation is a worldwide problem.

Basically it's a balance with goods and services on one side, and money supply on the other. There's more to it but that's an easy way to think of it. Just making sure we're working with the same premises.

Stupid COVID shit reduced available goods and services worldwide. That had the same effect as increasing the money supply on the scale.

Then governments increased the money supply. Worldwide.

So saying inflation happened under Biden's watch is an accurate statement.

It's also accurate to say he made it worse.

With Elon Musk at the helm, you have to do your own moderating now.

    1. Stuck in California   3 years ago

I read that a million people all shouted the n word the day Musk took over.

Again, repeated unquestioningly by multiple mainstream news outlets, who never bothered once to note that it was a troll attack, done purposely to skew the search results.

But, yeah. It's a free for all hellscape now. Even though none of the content moderation had been touched. At all.

And so many people died because of it. Didn’t you see the bodies stacked like cordwood out on main street ?

        1. Agammamon   3 years ago

It was like a billion people cried out the n-word and then fell silent.

I am making 80 US dollars per hr. to complete some internet services from home. I did not ever think it would even be achievable , however my confidant mate got $13k only in four weeks, easily doing this best assignment and also she convinced me to avail.

Unfortunately for anyone foolish or desperate enough to depend on Socialist Insecurity payments, those checks are tied to what the government claims annual inflation is and not what it actually is. Annual inflation when calculated as it was in 1972 is about twice what it is by the current method of calculation.

  5. Naime Bond   3 years ago

They didn't delete it because it was a dumb statement to make; they deleted it when it became apparent that Biden didn't know what he said, five minutes after making the statement and they thought this would discourage reporters from asking him about it.

"Paging Winston Smith ... paging Winston Smith ... please call extension 1984 for a message."

"Hello, this Winston Smith responding to the page for a message."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Smith but there is no message, there never has been a message. What page? We did not page you. You have been deleted from the database. There is no 'Winston Smith' in our database. There was never any 'Winston Smith' in our database."

It’s not often that I laugh out loud reading about political news. But holy shit, seeing that tweet, followed by the twitter fact-check disclaimer, then the WH deleting was so amazingly funny.

Social Security is never going to be solvent; the sooner it (and the feds) run out of money and out of places to borrow/steal money from, the better. Honestly I am looking forward to the federal default. It's going to be hell, but with any luck it will result in a massively diminished federal government. And if the Feds don't have the time or resources to fuck with our lives, than our freedom will grow.

  11. Liberty Lover   3 years ago (edited)

The Biden Administration is out of touch with the electorate, the economy and reality.
How the Biden Administration thinks about you: Hey you got a big Social Security raise because we caused such massive inflation with our stupid policies and money printing. Sorry it won’t be enough to compensate our ignorance because the CPI (consumer price index) is no longer representative of real inflation because Obama changed the basket of goods to hide the real inflation.
Please vote Democrat for more destruction. Really we think you are that stupid. We are laughing at YOU!

you absolutely should refer to it as "leadership". it is Mr. Biden's and overall progressive "leadership" that has gotten us here. the conditions were there, we all knew it. they just wanted their spendfest so badly, they didn't care what resulted. their policies were blatantly and unabashedly inflationary, and they proceeded without any hesitation, waving off cautions with "it's a blip" or "not to worry, we've got it under control". as always, they did not have it under control.
