Batmobile | Jerry Coli / Dreamstime.com
(Jerry Coli / Dreamstime.com)

The San Mateo, California, Board of Supervisors has asked the state attorney general's office to investigate both Sheriff Carlos Bolanos and the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office after Bolanos sent deputies to Indiana to raid automobile customizer Mark Racop's business. Racop builds working replicas of the Batmobile from the 1966 TV series. Racop is involved in a dispute with Sam Anagnostou, an Atherton, California, real estate agent who bought a Batmobile. Racop said Anagnostou missed a payment. Anagnostou eventually paid off his purchase, but Racop moved him to the back of the line, and Anagnostou became angry when he found it could be two years before his Batmobile would be delivered. A judge dismissed Anagnostou's civil case against Racop. So, Anagnostou asked Bolanos, a Facebook friend, to intervene.

I'm thinking The sheriff is more than just 'Face Book ' friends with this guy. You have to take care of your pay master.

    1. m40195971   3 years ago

This seems like a sugar daddy type of intervention.

      1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   3 years ago

Or more like a "boy wonder" type, complete with tights.

        1. m40195971   3 years ago

          Hubba hubba!

  3. Fist of Etiquette   3 years ago

Holy graft, Batman! Maybe Anagnostou never missed a payment to a couple local politicians.

  4. mad.casual   3 years ago

So, Anagnostou asked Bolanos, a Facebook friend, to intervene.

There's a certain irony to the move from the 1960s-era, where the police commissioner has a emergency line to the local billionaire-cum-vigilante to mete out justice he's unwilling or unable to deliver, to the 2020s, where the local billionaire has an emergency line to the local sheriff.

I bet the interaction between CA Sheriff's deputies showing up at a autobody shop in Logansport, IN has some TV-worthy moments.

Kinda sad to think that something like this is probably how Civil War 2 is gonna start.

    1. Agammamon   3 years ago

Worse, they showed up with local cops to help them.

      1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   3 years ago

        Professional courtesy?

      2. mad.casual   3 years ago

Still seems like some public servant, somewhere has to utter the sentence "Wait, you said 'he stole a car', not 'he hasn't finished building the car your party hasn't finished paying for'." or similar in front of the public they're supposed to serve. Maybe the law in Logansport is willing to pass the buck for officers raiding businesses under false pretenses off onto their own taxpayers, but that bill has got to be paid either way.

  5. Unicorn Abattoir   3 years ago

What, you thought CA's authority ended at the state line like one of those MAGA states?

    1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   3 years ago

How the fuck else are they going to fulfill their mandate to lead us rubes into the utopian future?

    2. Dillinger   3 years ago

(t/j) for the record I love Mitch Trubisky

      1. Unicorn Abattoir   3 years ago

I'm just surprised that the Steelers defense showed up for both halves.

        1. Dillinger   3 years ago

true. the Bungles L knocked a bunch of my suicide pool out so yay for me.

  6. Dillinger   3 years ago

ZONK! what song was playing when The Sheriff and his goon squad arrived?

  7. Utkonos   3 years ago

Don’t cave in to these jokers!

  8. Fats of Fury   3 years ago

Isn't Indiana one of the states that Californians are forbidden to set foot in?

  9. Dillinger   3 years ago

also, Buford T. Justice on line 2 ...

  10. CE   3 years ago

    Holy expanded jurisdiction, Batman!

Are the San Mateo County taxpayers supposed to fund the deputies' trip to Indiana? Why?

  11. Libertariantranslator   3 years ago

All this time... I should've been building Batmobiles!

  12. CE   3 years ago

The original 1966 Batmobile was purchased from Ford for $1, so it could be used in movies and TV for publicity. It cost 250K to build by hand in 1954 for the 1955 Chicago Auto Show as a concept car. It was originally light blue, then painted solid red in the 1959 Henry Ford/Debbie Reynolds film "It Started with a Kiss". It recently sold for 4.2 million.

    1. m40195971   3 years ago

The Batmobile is of such little consequence to me that I wouldn’t waste the cost of a book of matches to burn it.

  13. Wizard4169   3 years ago

    Na-na-na-na-na-na-nah, Batshit!
