The article says he was stopped for a traffic violation, not "illegal possession of a gun and drugs". If he really was stopped just for the traffic violation, then the cops had to legally valid reason to suspect possession at the point that they sicced the dog on him.

Not flatly untrue, conditionally untrue. You actually cannot have objective morality without religion, per your own precepts. There's a case to be made that all objective morality can only be interpreted subjectively, but that's no longer a centrally religious argument.
