As Pride Month Nears End, LGBT Political Culture Warring Escalates
You’d think drag brunches are why we’re paying $6 a gallon for gas.

We've got 10 days left in Pride Month. That it takes place this year during an election cycle that has been heavily influenced by culture wars putting gay and particularly trans issues front and center has inexplicably brought back into politics some pretty old ideas about LGBT issues.
Over the weekend, the Republican Party of Texas voted to approve language in their 2022 platform declaring that "homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice" and opposing "special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior." It further states they "oppose all efforts to validate transgender identity" and calls for the legal prohibition of medical treatments like puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery for any trans person under the age of 21.
There is a lot of stuff in the whole platform (and not all of it is bad). The addition of this LGBT component is notable for what a weird throwback it is, much of it reminiscent of how conservatives used to talk about gay marriage back in the 1990s.
State political platforms are also somewhat easy targets to draw out culture war tensions. They are mostly relevant to party primaries in states and may indicate the mood of influential party participants but not the actual desires of party voters. Not only do an overwhelming majority of Americans support legal recognition of same-sex marriage, but as of 2021, a majority of Republicans (55 percent) also support it. Gallup polling shows support for gay and trans rights improving steadily over the last two decades.
Nevertheless, we have seen many examples this month that the "woke left" aren't the only ones versed in virtue signaling. Drag brunch is not going to be the downfall of America, but saying so is certainly a way of drawing media attention and playing to a particular group of conservative voters, freedom and liberty be damned. There are a lot of complex reasons (and really bad government policies) behind our inflation and supply chain crisis, our actual domestic problems. RuPaul is not one of those reasons.
Last week President Joe Biden signed a lengthy executive order that shows his willingness to jump into this culture war on behalf of the Democratic Party. On June 15, he signed an "Executive Order on Advancing Equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Individuals" that pushes the Secretary of Health and Humans Services to seek out ways to intervene against "harmful State and local laws" that target and restrict the access of LGBT citizens to medical care and treatment.
This is clearly a response to states passing laws that attempt to ban or criminalize medical treatment for trans teens and children. Similarly, the executive order calls for the Secretary of Education to attempt to intervene against any state laws they deem "harmful" to LGBT students and to "develop and release sample policies for supporting LGBTQI+ students' well-being and academic success in schools and educational institutions."
Incidentally, Biden is the first president to use the term "queer" in his executive orders, but it's not defined in the order. The term is generally not used in anti-discrimination laws precisely because it has become this vague umbrella term to the point that heterosexual people claim to be "queer." Its inclusion in the order is its own performative moment for the administration.
To the extent that new state laws fueled by culture warring might violate the rights of LGBT citizens and run counter to federal law or Supreme Court rulings makes an executive order justifiable, though probably not necessary. Xavier Becerra, current Secretary of Health and Humans Services, doesn't need any encouragement to go around filing lawsuits. That's what he's known for.
But that's not all the executive order does. It calls for the feds to wade into the political fight over conversion therapy (the controversial theory debunked by medical experts that homosexuality and trans identity can be "cured") and asks the Federal Trade Commission to determine whether the practice is fraudulent and requires consumer warnings.
Paragraph after paragraph calls for more federal research and working groups on LGBT health issues and whether LGBT people are more likely to have to deal with homelessness, have problems with accessing social services, determine whether older LGBT folks have issues with long-term care, et cetera. A lot of the executive order is a wish list that affirms an LGBT-friendly and expansive bureaucratic state.
And so the culture war politics involved here are a partisan fight over what will be forbidden and what will be mandated, and being left alone is just not an option on the table. Drag queens and trans athletes have to be presented as some massive cultural threat on one side, while LGBT people (and "queer" people, whoever they might be if not LGBT people) as a whole need to be collectively classified as hapless children to justify a set of unneeded government interventions by the other.

You’d think drag brunches are why we’re paying $6 a gallon for gas.
I thought it was. Certainly not anything to do what SleepyJoe did. And what he promised to do.
As usual, Scott is making shit up and creating ridiculous straw man arguments. Nobody is associating drag shows and groomers with the price of gas.
But if he didn't invent bullshit he'd have nothing libertarian to write.
I even have made $30,030 just in five weeks straightforwardly working part-time from my apartment. So Scott is saying high gas prices are somehow connected to the Hershey Highway?
Bad news on the international front:

Thats a hell of a lot better than Kamala, I walk past her office and shout " Apparently the Fish Market is open?"
She really hates that !
"You’d think drag brunches are why we’re paying $6 a gallon for gas."
____
I can't believe someone actually typed this sentence. Read it, and then thought "People will celebrate this thought".
Most people can think about two different situations at once. Yes, six dollar gasoline is crippling our economy. But men dressed as women while thrusting their fake boobs and real dicks in the faces of young children is crippling our society and destroying our children.
My goodness! Do Reason writers really thing this is a good and healthy thing for children and we should either ignore it or celebrate it just because gas prices are high?
For your own mental health (and the health of any children you may be in close contact with), Shackford! Seek psychiatric counseling!
I was all for gay marriage and not being shitty to people. And still am. But the only reason Pride month is a thing is to keep the culture war alive. Remember when gays just wanted to be regular people with families and homes like everyone else? Now the point seems to be to push it to the level where conservatives will get vocal about it again.
Pride month seems so weird a thing. I got an idea, let's end all the culture months and just honor everyone as human beings all the time. We're all humans and mostly all Americans, let's stop dividing people up.
But how else are the activists operating under the alphabet sex cult umbrella going to earn their paychecks now that they achieved gay marriage.
At my work they are celebrating pride month with a powerpoint feed outing gay employees. So every time I walk into the break room there's an image of a gay co-worker on the screen. I don't understand this. They didn't have pics of Black employees during Black Awareness month. And didn't have pics of women during "Women in STEM" month. So why are they calling out individual gay employees during pride month?
If I were gay I would not want to participate in any such event. Who I sleep with is NONE of my employer's business. Advertising it all my fellow employees is untoward and inappropriate.
I'm fine about celebrating the great gay people of history. Alan Turing, for example, who single handedly (with help of course) turned the tide of WWII. But calling out employees who are gay? Why would they go along with that? Is their identity so tied up with who they sleep with that they can't separate their personal life from their employment?
The Company I work for made a big deal about their promoting a Lesbian to management. She was all excited about it until I pointed something out to her. I don't care for her, but, I'll be the first to admit that she is very good at her job. I told her that they just gave her the biggest insult that they could have given her. No matter how good she is, no matter what she does, there are going to be those who will believe that she only got the promotion because she is gay.
Your pink slip will be along directly.
"So why are they calling out individual gay employees during pride month?"
I'm not justifying them, but the reason they do it is that your sexual preference is not always obvious. When you work with a black man or woman, you pretty much know it. In their heads, the activists are thinking someone will go, "Oh wait, Joe's a gay guy? Really? Wow, he's a good guy. All my childhood biases have been shocked to the core. Why, he is just as normal as Ma and Pa back in tater-picking country!"
Mmmm, maybe. When I grew up we had a lesbian couple in town, total stereo type to. Big mountain women in flannel shirts and her girlfiend the one in the dainty dresses. The latter was actually the French teacher in high school, and ran the cheerleading squad and call them "my girls". Everyone knew they were gayer than West Side Story marathon, but it was no big deal. Parents didn't let their daughters go visit without a chaperone, but otherwise no big deal. Nicest people in the world.
But I can imagine parts of the country where Boston wives still had to hide their New England roots. Where some flaming Frisco fag is still the stereotype.
I thought Boston was considered New England. Is there some Yankee in-fighting that this here Southerner has missed? 😉
At my work they are celebrating pride month with a powerpoint feed outing gay employees.
Don't be a retard.
No one's being outed. Those people submitted their info and pics for the presentation.
The most embarrassing thing here is that there's supposedly a company desperate/incompetent enough to employ that imbecile
Hopefully they asked them first. “Umm, sorry, Joe, we just kinda assumed…”
“… who single handedly (with help of course)…
Lol. When (virtue) signaling gets crossed. ^
You're right, it is a weird thing to normal people. Having a whole month to "celebrate" how and with whom you have sex, as long as it isn't hetero sex, smacks of insecurity. Most people don't care what consenting adults do in their private lives; it is when they take it to the street and or involve minors that upsets people.
I'm so old I remember when we were told that LGB? just wanted the right to do as they wish in the privacy of their own home. Now, American's are supposed to cheer as these deviants shake their penis in the faces of children while the children put dollar bills in their crotch strap! All because gas is six dollars a gallon.
And, the reason gas prices are so high is because the Chief Pedophile of our nation has declared a war on oil and gas and is hell-bent on destroying our economy so his buddies in China can take over.
Go suck on it Shackford!
You’re saying all lives matter?
How racist!
That’s racist. Only Black Lives Matter.
the end result of all the activist identity politics is one of two scenarios
1- we move toward a mixed race society (this first part is certain) where an "all lives matter" is the inevitable backlash to ongoing minutia grievances about which person or group is MOST aggrieved
2- majority groups in countries have their own identity politics backlashes using their majority status to gain power
In the short term, 2 is the definitely going to happen. In the long term, 1 is likely. At least in the US. Its going to get harder and harder to sell a person that is half black or half hispanic that they are the root of all evil because they dont have 100% percent claim to "POC" status. Then again, the pureblood thing seems to keep rearing its head throughout history...
I have been saying for years that number 1 is going to happen. As Jeff Goldblum said, "life finds a way". Human beings breed, that's what they do. Only the old fuddy duddy racist fucks want to ban miscegenation. That's why they banned it back when they could. Myself I'm literally eight or nine different ethnicities, and one of those used to be called "colored" back in the day. Then you have those White people who take a genetic test and discover they're a quarter Black, or Blacks who discover they're mostly White.
Until about 2016 it looked like the goal was a mixed-race society where non-whites assimilate into the dominant English-descended culture. Then it became clear the idea was for minorities to maintain distinct identities so they could be in an eternal struggle against in-baked white racism. It has to be ongoing because the Leftists rely on unending grievances for their political power.
There seems to be plenty of evidence that a significant portion of gays as a political movement always wanted to be transgressive to the broader culture, and were not looking to be merely treated like anyone else. They intend to push too far, as a matter of course.
Well of course those in the political movement don't want it to stop. Then they'd have to have an original idea or be interesting in some real way.
Yeah, somehow I don’t think that wallowing in victimhood is nearly as satisfying as signaling on the victims behalf.
And the MASTER point of it all... Which [WE] identity group gets unlimited POWER to use those Gov-Guns against everyone else...
This whole retarded Gang-Grouping mentality isn't new. It's a reflection of a Totalitarian Nation... Nazism is the source of it all.
Herb Caen, who was a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle before he died said "In San Francisco the love that dare not say its name won't shut up."
Remember when that was all they wanted and "gay" and "straight" were written in genetic stone and could not be changed and "THERE ABSOLUTELY WAS NO SLIPPERY SLOPE HERE, YOU BIGOT!!"??
Yeah, me too.
2002: "Stay out of our bedrooms!"
2022: "Celebrate what we do in our bedrooms!"
As a nonbinary (they / them) person who was assigned male at birth, I just want to go on record expressing my disgust with cisfemale culture warriors who demand spaces in which they can undress and use the toilet and shower without having to see a translesbian's semi-erect ladydick. Their sense of entitlement is downright shocking.

A penis is the same as a vagina, because women can have them.
it is funny the way nobody seems to care about the biological women who want to use the mens room..... even though there are roughly the same number of them. (and, they are the ones jacked up on testosterone supplements.)
there are roughly the same number of them.
For the moment. Historically there were a LOT more MTF transgenders. In the last ten years the number of FTM transgenders has exploded to the point of parity. If current trends continue (always a dangerous assumption, of course) they will form the overwhelming majority of transgenders within the next five years.
The reason no one cares about women in men's rooms should be obvious. The separation of bathrooms is to keep men out of the women's room, not the other way around.
Conversion therapy may not work for homosexuality but adding in trans identity is not scientifically valid. Nice try Scott, but there are reasons to believe that psychology may be able to deal with gender dysphoria more appropriately than using hormone blockers to stop normal biological function and evolution.
Whether conversion therapy works or not, the people trying to make it illegal don't understand freedom of speech or freedom of association. It's no surprise that the folks pushing for laws against conversion therapy are statist authoritarians; ie far left progressives.
How much evidence is there that attempting to resculpt the body through hormones and surgery into a facsimile of the opposite sex generally effective as treatment for the patient's dysphoria?
Very little actual evidence that it works. They report feeling happier but other benchmarks for depression such as drugs and alcohol abuse, sexual promiscuity and suicide rates remain mostly unchanged. So, they report being happier but don't act like it and still end up swallowing a bullet.
They're happier when their little high school friends give them online "likes" for their new-gendered TikTok dances.
10 years later?? There seems to be a problem, then, of the kind that requires fine-tuning algorithms, redefinitions of "hate speech", and hard censorship of factual information (h/t to Chase "Hill to die on" Strangio). Note that these measure "dealing with" trans regret in no way help the permanently-mutilated ex-youngsters.
Gotta break a few children to make a new place to park all that activist money, right?
So wheres the down side in that outcome?
“Medical treatment”
resculpt the body through hormones and surgery into a facsimile of the opposite sex generally effective as treatment for the patient's dysphoria?
What if they don't actually have dysphoria? What do we call that sculpting and chemical intervention then?
Demented self-harm.
Malpractice, one would think.
From what I understand, a diagnosis of gender dysphoria is not exactly a cut and dried determination. It is rather fuzzy, ar best.
Nowadays the patient does self-diagnosis. The therapist or psychiatrist has to affirm this self-diagnosis with enthusiasm or risk losing their license. That includes for teenagers with any number of other mental health problems.
Trying to lump transgender in with gay really seems like a bad idea. Being gay I can totally see as just another way that some people are, and can live a fine life that way. Being trans is really a problem in ways that being gay just isn't. Even if you get all teh therapies and surgeries and everyone tells you how great it is and supports you, you still aren't what you think you should be and never will be. That's a serious psychological problem if not mental illness and it seems insane not to at least try to treat it as such rather than trying to change reality instead.
"Even if you get all teh therapies and surgeries and everyone tells you how great it is and supports you, you still aren't what you think you should be and never will be."
And there is an extremely low likelihood of having a successful, fulfilling sexual relationship and partnership with another person. It is a derangement of the psyche. Just like people with borderline personality or bipolar have severe issues with relationships, so do trans people. You dont fix psychological issues by agreeing with people that their delusions are totes real and playing into them, that tends to have very poor results.
The plastic surgery addicts. I believed the really freakishly faces on the web were photoshopped or bullshit click bate. A couple years ago I was in Beaver Creek Resort Colorado on business, and I saw that, she was in front of me at a coffee shop. Absolutely incredible - -the woman was one of the pictures on the web and didn’t seem to see herself as she appeared. Made Michael Jackson look natural and normal. Sad.
There is 0% scientific/biological basis for "gender dysphoria" as anything other than psychological disorder. It's at best neurosis, and when a person thinks they really are the opposite sex... it's severe psychosis.
Reality is what it is.
We used to call it going through puberty and being miserable. But, after a couple of years things sorta balance out and you discovered that the opposite sex wasn't that icky at all. The younger ones are being pushed into by their parents.
I hope those doctors and the parents that are changing their children's gender all in order to belong to the "cool kids" club are sued like hell by their children in a few years.
Inclusion of T to LGB has made the rights of all women, gays and bisexuals (who account for 60%-65% of the US population) subservient to the intolerant demands of Transgender activists and their woke Democrat allies (even though >.001 of humans are born with gender dysphoria).
If people can change their sex (er sexual identity) any time they desire, shouldn't people also be allowed to change their race or ethnicity any time they desire?
The comment above intended to state that <.001% of humans are born with gender dysphoria.
But now that many/most children are taught (by woke left wing public school teacher union members) that they can be empowered (and even enriched) by changing their sex (or sexual identity) any time they desire, up to 10% of school students are now identifying as Transgender, queer, or some other sexual deviation.
And if they engage in surgery, it's "gender-affirming". Which literally makes zero sense.
There is far greater genetic/biological similarity between males of different races/ethnicities than there is between a male and female of the same race/ethnicity
There is more genetic difference between a man and a woman than there is between a woman and a female chimpanzee.
"Inclusion of T to LGB"
hey if nothing else it has allowed the white man to end up on top again!
Lia Thomas is an otherwise fit, healthy, member of the oppressive and problematic white cis male patriarchy! How does one fix that? Apparently its as easy as saying "nah bro, im a chick" and all of a sudden-----> to the top of the victim identity bravery pyramid!!! What a brave woman!
The white man wins again!
We've got 10 days left in Pride Month.
Jesus H. Christ it feels like it's been going for two fucking years. Is it just me or is everyone else as sick to death as I am about the need to know what everyone does with their dicks?
Today is also a new woke federal holiday called Juneteenth, which seems to have replaced Columbus Day (as Columbus tolerated slavery, even though blacks who captured/sold the slaves in Africa did the same).
Even the Wall Street Journal didn't publish today (because it was Juneteenth).
Local news story had someone suggesting a way to properly celebrate Juneteenth was to be race conscious in your purchases and buy "black".
Not being race-conscious is racist.
As a white woman, after existing 60 years without being racist, I've definitely seen the light. I'm now racist against white, stupid-as-hell, college-educated liberals who spend all their time searching for the racism in any statement ever made. I'm also now homophobic since I've seen video evidence of the lgb? community deliberately going after minor children. I'm also now a climate-denier because I've seen the harm the climate primitives can do to a nation when they want to sacrifice humanity on the altar of their earth god. I will not ever vote for a democrat again, even if it is my sibling, because those people, by definition, are obviously mentally ill and demon-possessed (picture the girl in the movie "Exorcist" on meth--that's the democrat party).
Is there something in the water? Breeding with low-IQ partners? Being indoctrinated in college? I don't know but I can tell you the movie "Idiocracy" was not supposed to be a how-manual.
(picture the girl in the movie “Excorcist” on meth—that’s the democrat party).
That’s a fair analogy, but at least she was strapped down. ML’s comparison to Cthulhu still seems closer, given the damage potential/intent of dems/progs lately.
"buy "black""
But when Columbus does it, suddenly it's wrong. /sarc
Even the Wall Street Journal didn't publish today (because it was Juneteenth).
The "unlicensed day care" known as The Washington Post.
The proper way to celebrate Juneteenth is to forget about it and then celebrate it two months later.
I save time by celebrating Juneteenth and Kwaanzaa on the same day, and in the same manner.
I thought it was to hit up your local Foot Locker and steal some now shoes and team merch. Or was it to light your neighborhood on fire and have a block party barbecue with locally looted supplies.
My youngest asked me about Juneteenth, and I just said it is the celebration of the fact that after tens of thousands of years of slavery in human history, the US ended it here in our country. They seemed happy with that. And it seems like something noteworthy.
Yeah, seems like a fine holiday if that's what it's about.
From what I've heard, in places where it is traditionally celebrated, mostly in the deep south, it's a pretty good time, like another 4th of July or something where people have a party and barbecue. Not some solemn reflective, whatever day.
Sounds like it may turn into another holiday like July 4.
Except instead of ads saying "declare independence from high prices,"* the ads will say "free yourself from high prices."
*Oh, awkward timing this year
It didn't end until December. See Delaware.
Of course, China has slaves right now. But black NBA players are perfectly content to take their billions of dollars and offer zero criticism towards this slavery.
This is the point where you know we are through the looking glass
Blacks that constantly are OK with playing the victim regarding slavery are completely OK with slavery in another country so long as they can continue making bank on the backs of that slavery. So much so, that they will try and silence any detractors about said slavery.
So, no different from the days of old but only with them on the side of the blacks profiting off slavery this time instead of on the auction block.
Texas would be fucking up by prohibiting the surgery after 18. 21 year old have been adults for three years and have the right to fuck up their body if they want to.
To the same extemt they have a roght to but an assault weapon.
Or to buy a drink? Or sign a lease? You forget Pelousy signed a law extending childhood to age 26.
But the "doctors" who do it should be regarded as unethical by their profession.
I think that should be fixed by liability. Let true believers do as the believe is right. Just let their patients recieve monetary compensation for damages, if they realize later they'd been pushed into medically unnecessary and harmful procedures.
Putting liability on being it wrong will naturally lead to people putting in their own safe guards against abuse or gong or of business.
On this topic, here's a great interview:
"Trans Ideology is the New Homophobia" - Arielle Scarcella
Arielle Scarcella (a lesbian) has been accused of being transphobic because she's not interested in "sucking dick".
At one point in the interview she says, "I identify as a lesbian..." then she corrects herself and says, "No, I don't 'identify' as a lesbian, I AM a lesbian."
poor thing. Even she is tongue tied.
Lol. She must be overusing it.
"Drag brunch is not going to be the downfall of America, but saying so is certainly a way of drawing media attention and playing to a particular group of conservative voters, freedom and liberty be damned." - Scott S
Scott, nice attempt to redefine a situation and create a strawman argument. NOBODY is complaining about drag brunch, whatever the fuck that even means. People ARE complaining about drag shows where children are invited and are participating. If that is what you're calling a drag brunch, then you're a pathetic, dishonest hack of a person and journalist.
And, if you think only far right, icky conservatives are upset about this type of grooming, you cannot be more wrong. Even Hillary Clinton came out recently and recognized this transgender crap is a lousy hill to die on. You know why? Because many self identified Democrats are horrified by this crap; especially as it pertains to grooming children.
By all means, die on this hill Scott. You and your progressive friends will see a tsunami of support for the GOP. This isn't about what goes on in your bedroom, this is about you fucking with people's children.
Chris Rufo's new idea is to refer to these "drag shows" as "transgender strip shows" as that is a far more accurate descriptor.
Drag queens and Transsexuals are two different animals. The former are entertaining, self-deprecating and usually fat hairy men who want a bottle of scotch with tips deposited in their fake bras.
Transexuals... FIIK what they want. They have become parasites to us homos.
He obviously figures the WaPo and NYT are going to be able to employ all 98,000 fucking progtard "journalists" who will be vying for staff spots.
Those must be some cocktail parties.
some pretty old ideas about LGBT issues.
And one of those outdated ideas is that Ls and Gs and Bs and Ts have common characteristics and interests that justify them being lumped together in one term.
They do... They're all psychotic and [WE] identity mobs after the Power of those Gov-Guns... Otherwise; It wouldn't be "political".
Time to mute another kook.
There are so many fucking letters in the Alphabet now, Joe Biden literally couldn't remember them in a speech.
That's not saying much, considering how little Joe Biden seems to be able to remember in speeches these days.
massive cultural threat on one side, while LGBT people (and "queer" people, whoever they might be if not LGBT people) as a whole need to be collectively classified as hapless children to justify a set of unneeded government interventions by the other.
unneeded government interventions.
More unneeded government interventions.
More "you must say gay" bills.
bad link:
Are they going to celebrate James Buchanan as the first gay President?
He was probably the only one.
^THIS EXACTLY.... It's "political" because of [WE] gangs wanting to use Gov-Guns.
Gallup polling shows support for gay and trans rights improving steadily
What rights do people who call themselves "trans" have that everyone else doesn't have?
Shackford has replaced Shilkha Dalmia as the most predictably deranged and dishonest one-note Reasonista
/respect
Ouch! Sullum was gunning for it during second half of 2020 with his non-stop TDS infused articles and repeated support for Cuties. He's come back down to earth a bit; despite his massive blinder for anything Biden/Trump and of course, pedophilia.
But Shackford is just losing it. It's really sad to see Reason editors allow this dribble.
freedom and liberty be damned
No, children do not and must not have the right to exercise full "freedom and liberty". Nor should parents have a completely blank check to do with their children as they please.
Perhaps... But one thing can rightfully be derived...
It's NONE of the Union of States Government BUSINESS!!! Keep it out of the National Defense government...
"Queer" is indeed a strange word, but I can admit here on HnR that I have no idea what it means. I used to think it meant gay but beyond normal gay into a flamboyant lifestyle zone. And perhaps it still does. But that means it's NOT a sexual preference. Not gay, not bi, no lesbian, not even trans, but something unrelated to sexual preference or identity.
Thus treating "queer" as an identity is strange.
On the other hand, I know someone who identifies as "queer" who is not flamboyant or outre. So what the fuck is "queer"? Wikipedia is not helping. Is it just people who refuse to be a mainstream identity? Someone who is LGBT but refuses to be categorized as normal or mainstream or accepted? "Gay doesn't shock their parents enough so they have to be "queer"?
"Queer" is indeed a strange word, but I can admit here on HnR that I have no idea what it means.
If you take it back to the academies, it specifically refers to a 'disruptive' marker that challenges more standard normative roles/identities/ways of looking at the world.
It can mean different things to different people. Generically, "queer" was an often alternate word for "gay". But as the academies kind of took the ball and ran with it with "Queer Theories" it meant something more broad (as stated in my first paragraph.
It can and often is applied to almost any line of thought in the aforementioned "disruptive" manner. In the academies, they will talk of "queering gender" or "queering math" etc. You can "queer" anything in the service of deconstructionism, destabilization of "societal norms" etc.
Is it just people who refuse to be a mainstream identity?
Essentially, yes.
For instance, there was a woman I referred to in a previous thread (I won't rehash the details) but she is a lesbian. However, she insists her pronouns are "they/them". In her twitter bio, she (fuck it, SHE) refers to herself as "Queer AF". Presumably the old, outmoded and boring "Lesbian" moniker isn't doing it, so she changes her pronouns, no longer considers herself a "her" but I strongly suspect remains a committed lesbian.
If you're interested, here's some rather old academic writing on the subject.
And here's Wiki on Queering which... actually isn't too bad:
This sentence is profoundly important:
It is the essential battle against "normalization". If you think the rise of transgender ideology is an accident or "just some shit that happened", you'd be wrong.
If you wonder why anyone would battle "normalization" for the sake of it, when you realize that around exactly 100% of these areas of "critical theories" studies are explicitly in service of destroying Western Capitalism, it kind of all falls into place.
Oh, and for the record, while pretty much ALL of the Neo Marxist Critical Theories stuff in the academies is based around... or has a foundation upon Post Modernism (Nick Gillespie is flat fucking wrong on this point), most of the Theories studies have 'rejected' post modernism in practice, even while admitting that it's "useful" in its methodology of deconstructionism. However, Queer Theories has stuck the most closely with Post Modernism, even embracing it with this statement "Even the term queer itself can be queered, because much of queer theory involves working to fight against normalization even in the field itself."
One of the reasons most of the Theories ultimately rejected post modernism is they were just smart enough to realize that Post Modernism was a self-refuting philosophy and it's hard to stand on a bedrock of "systemic racism" when that can be deconstructed as just another social construct.
However, the Queer Theorists embrace the self-deconstructionst part of the philosophy. Queer can be Queered.
There was an episode in The Sopranos where the mother fusses over her daughter's take on Moby Dick which focuses on queerness, sexuality and identity. The mother complained that the daughter's analysis sullied a great masterpiece.
If I'm ever asked to register my preferred pronouns, I'm going to answer "I/You".
Language is weird, and trying to politicize it is bonkers. Gender in language is NOT the same thing as gender in sex. A "ball" can be feminine in one language and masculine in another. So why all the concern over third person personal pronouns, but no concern over first and second person pronouns?
If I'm ever asked my preferred pronoun, I'm going to say "nigger".
"Presumably the old, outmoded and boring "Lesbian" moniker isn't doing it, so she changes her pronouns, no longer considers herself a "her" but I strongly suspect remains a committed lesbian."
Interesting article on 'ta' written with the person radical in Chinese. It long referred to he she or it. Until the 20th century when the person radical referred to he, and a new character with the woman radical was introduced to refer to she. Apparently under the influence of Western languages which take their genders much more seriously. (Not unlike a lot of prescriptive rules in English are inspired by an ideal of Latin. - Not ending sentences with a preposition for example.) Recently activists in Hong Kong have dispensed with the traditional scheme of radicals altogether and have written ta with an 'X' instead. Reminiscent of the Latinx usage.
"Presumably the old, outmoded and boring "Lesbian" moniker isn't doing it, so she changes her pronouns, no longer considers herself a "her" but I strongly suspect remains a committed lesbian."
I can only speculate but perhaps the bulk of her sex life is conducted online and when online she makes a habit of passing herself off as a man. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
need to be collectively classified as hapless children
Minors suffering from the delusion that they can and should switch sexes ARE hapless children in need of society's protection from adults who would harm them by playing along with their delusion.
But it's not a National declaration of War. Leave it to the States..
"...opposing 'special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior.'"
If they're saying that we should treat everyone equally under the law, I don't see how that's a bad thing.
"There are a lot of complex reasons (and really bad government policies) behind our inflation and supply chain crisis, our actual domestic problems. RuPaul is not one of those reasons."
The only person I've ever seen trying to link culture war rhetoric and our inflation & supply chain issues is the author of this article.
The author was saying the two are _not_ related, to make the rhetorical point, “Then why are Republicans so focused on the issue?”
Whoosh.
"Over the weekend, the Republican Party of Texas voted to approve language in their 2022 platform declaring that "homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice""
Seems kind of hard to argue with, on a statistical basis. Do try to remember that Kinsey was a fraud, and we're talking about a group that constitutes maybe a couple percent of the population.
"This is clearly a response to states passing laws that attempt to ban or criminalize medical treatment for trans teens and children."
I'm fairly certain that virtually every actual medical treatment is available to 'trans' teens and children. And I'm really having a difficult time figuring out how the government can on the one hand ban conversion therapy, and on the other hand, can't ban dickectomies. Can we have some consistency here?
I'm really having a difficult time figuring out how the government can on the one hand ban conversion therapy, and on the other hand,
can't ban dickectomies.another kind of conversion therapy. Can we have some consistency here?Fixed your comment. Otherwise, well done. Carry on.
Bad strike, should be "can't ban another kind of conversion therapy". But I'm sure you got that.
On what basis are you fairly certain of that?
I was just saying the other day that I’m fairly certain surgery is _not_ readily available to trans teens and children.
I tried testing my assumptions with some googling: I found that the AMA discourages the surgery; a clinic in Boston that may provide the surgery to teens, or maybe they don’t; and there aren’t simple stats on it anywhere. After googling, I threw the question out to the commenters here, and nobody replied.
Have you done any actual research? Have you asked anyone if what you are fairly certain of is true or not?
"We don't need to pass a law against it because it rarely happens."
That’s a good role of thumb when it comes to making laws, is it not?
And didn’t answer my question at all.
I recently posted about very young boys being medically "transitioned" as a "treatment" for deformity or injury to the penis, but I understand that you have little interest in facts.
"I recently posted about very young boys "
And I'm still waiting for pics.
"declaring that "homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice""
Irrelevant but incredibly stupid.
"opposing "special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior.""
Why should "whom one bones" provide special benefits? No group should have them. Giving them to MORE groups is absurd.
"It further states they "oppose all efforts to validate transgender identity""
As they should. I can feel for people with mental issues but I feel it is stupid to humor them.
"calls for the legal prohibition of medical treatments like puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery for any trans person under the age of 21."
Adults alone should be able to do this.
"Drag brunch is not going to be the downfall of America"
Nor will ceasing it.
I do not understand why you're tying yourself so closely to trannies as they are turning the country against the ENTIRE gay community.
It's all a hustle. It's always about the money and power so that "grievances" will never addressed to the hustlers satisfaction.
Well, there are 50 (FIFTY!!!) "gender reassignment centers" in the country. 10 years ago there were none. (there were medical specialists to whom actual cases of gender dysphoria could be referred).
That's money.
The editors of every mainstream media outlet will absolutely CRUSH any of their writers who try to publish anything critical of, hell, even *questioning* the current surge in trans identity. Who has the power to enforce that? All the scientific journals, peer-reviewed or popular, have the same policies. Big Tech, publishers, TV, Radio...did not just decide, EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE to totally censor criticism of anything the trans activists dislike. That is surely something only the most powerful of powers-that-be can make happen.
Like some of the big money in Big Philanthropy. There are certain medical and pharmaceutical interests who see lifelong dependents being generated from the "trans craze", And of course, people who have long been interested in the destruction of blood family and heteronormativity in general.
And so we get this. Is most assuredly IS a deliberate effort, and not a complete mystery who is behind it.
Immoral writer supports immoral things presented to children: SHOCKING!
There are more important things than your dick and what men's asshole you stick it in, Scott -- selfish SOB
and now we turn to our conservative updates:
Jerry Falwell Jr will not release copies of videos he made showing the pool boy humping his wifen
Back to you Moral Majority:
Matt Gaetz denies doing lines cocaine with prostitutes. Snorting here and there yes, but not lines
Poor fag -- hurt your feelings.
Jerry Jr's hag turn you down?
Who?!!
sealion alert
Isn't conversion therapy something that is between a patient and his doctor? Or is that "privacy" thing only applicable for what social libertines support? Seems quite selective in application. And it seems no less valid than the coerced mandatory pushing children into "trans-gender" outcomes forced on mental health practitioners.
Nobody is "assigned" "gender" at birth; their immutable biological sex is observed and documented.
tolerance --> acceptance --> when can we all stop talking about what we put it in? --> Pride Month, so I guess never now
The backlash is starting.
Backlash, is that like whipping bare ass?
It used to be that that was the only kiddie sex school teachers got.
Yeah it's not like teachers are having sex with their 13 year old students, video taping it, and sending it across the country or anything.
In a totally unrelated story: https://tvpworld.com/60822795/hawaii-public-school-teacher-charged-with-distributing-child-pornography
"You’d think drag brunches are why we’re paying $6 a gallon for gas."
They're just trying to find a scapegoat that polls well.
Biden's pretty fucking queer and I'm not talking the "I'll take a BJ from an M or F" type of queer.
Homosexuality IS abnormal. On the high end, only 7% of the population is gay, which means 93% are not. And that's if you accept the higher estimates as being correct. It ranges anywhere between just under 2% to 7%.
Homosexuality is not normal sexuality. The entire purpose of human sexuality is to produce offspring. There are other aspects of human sexuality- intimacy, pleasure, etc- but those aren't the primary functions of sex. Homosexual sex can't produce offspring, so it's a biologically abnormal type of sexuality.
The fact that it's abnormal is not a justification for denying people rights. Homosexual people are still people, entitled to all the same rights as heterosexual people. But the left has been sustemically trying to make it "normal" by overrepresenting homosexual relationships in pop culture and media, leading people to believe that homosexuality is far more prevalent than it actually is.
While most people know at least one gay person, that doesn't mean there are equal numbers of gay people as straight people. You may have a gay neighbor. And your pther neigbbors also have a gay neighbor- but thag doesn't mean that out of 20 houses, 10 have gay people living in them. It means that out of 20 houses, one might have a gay person living there, and the other 19 all know the same gay neighbor.
"only 7% of the population is gay, which means 93% are not"
Junk statistics. It all depends on which population you're talking about. It's much closer to 100% among members of The Village People.
Tesla lays off head of LGBT-blah-blah-blah organization during PRIDE MONTH!
https://electrek.co/2022/06/20/tesla-lay-off-head-lgbtq-diversity-elon-musk-woke-mind-virus/
"It could be a coincidence that many people involved in what some could describe as “wokeness” at Tesla were part of the layoffs,"
Or it could be that people involved in woke activism are usually unproductive employees who spend all their time bitching and causing problems, and Elon Musk is just not afraid to get rid of them, unlike most other major corporations.
The fact that he had that department in the first place is a mark against Elon Musk. Herpetologist's handshake and all.
It's hilarious to see Musk publicly become just another victim of a Twitter addiction. He's so addicted he bought the drug den.
These increasingly old white dudes with their complaints about the woke teenagers are fucking comedy gold. What utter losers.
It seems like a lot of times the federal government is expanded in order to prevent state and local governments from doing blatantly evil things to innocent people. That was how it grew during the Civil War, the Civil Rights Era, and how it is growing now. So it seems like if you want to stop the growth of federal government, stopping state and local governments from doing horrible things is a great tactic. Libertarians and conservatives need to do much, much more to prevent state and local governments from harming gay and trans rights (conservatives in particular need to stop being actively counterproductive). Even if such issues seem like a distraction from economic matter or overreaching government power, there is more of a connection than you think.
There's way less excuse to grow the federal government if state and local governments are less blatantly horrible.
Gay rights aren't actually being threatened.
^EXACTLY... But ever-growing Self-Entitlement is....
The left is famous for pretending self-entitlements are a "right".
"Gay rights aren't actually being threatened."
It's still the government's responsibility to protect these rights. Even at the cost of manpower and resources.
Funny; I didn't know it was Gov-Gun's responsibility to make sure everyone toed the belief that butt-poking was marriage... Then again; why are Gov-Gun's being used to decide that "marriage" is in the first place anyways???
Oh yeah; that's right - crony tax code defined it so really butt-poking recognition by government is a tax entitlement to a specific "brand" of people by redefining a word definition.. When will single people get to be included?? I'm sure some of them will stick their peckers where it won't belong for some crony tax except entitlements.. Bad law + Gov-Gun worship is all supposed "Gay Rights" has ever been composed of. The government has NEVER stopped gay people from being gay nor arrested them. They are just a [WE] identity mob trying to wield the Gov-Guns against 'those' people for their own SELF-ENTITLEMENT. **BECAUSE** that's what happens when people start thinking Gov-Guns should/will entitle them.
"Funny; I didn't know it was Gov-Gun's responsibility to make sure everyone toed the belief that butt-poking was marriage... "
No, it's the government's responsibility to protect everyone's rights, including the right to be gay. Or straight, for that matter.
"When will single people get to be included??"
When they marry?
"They are just a [WE] identity mob trying to wield the Gov-Guns against 'those' people for their own SELF-ENTITLEMENT. **BECAUSE** that's what happens when people start thinking Gov-Guns should/will entitle them."
None of that is illegal. You may freely join such a [WE] identity mob if you like, or not. The choice is yours.
"No, it's the government's responsibility to protect everyone's rights"
So it's "everyone's" rights to get straddled into baking cakes or paying excessive taxes or having discrimination charges filed against them for NOT being the 'SLAVE' to some self-entitled [WE] mob packing Gov-Guns of entitlement (the whole point of the craziness).
This court will overturn Obergefell. Look what they just did in that Maine case. They're nutso hate-filled conservative asshats.
You cannot believe the things they believe and be intelligent.
Well one thing is for sure.. Both parties HATE single people. They are the only one's left without that special badge of Gov-Gun honored "married" tax-code tag... WTF!!! Doesn't equal protection require single people be treated exactly like married people... Huh; Tony???
"I'm Single. I deserve Gov-Guns to *entitle* me to EVERYTHING those married people get. Heck, I'm *entitled* to force others to serve me too.... 'wedding cake'.... I'm entitled, I'm entitled, I'm entitled ............ by my love of point Gov-Guns at those people..."
It's a good and interesting question. Should government incentivize marriage? Maybe, maybe not. I can see arguments both ways.
What is intolerable is government incentivizing marriage and then only giving those incentives to straight people.
or 'coupled' people?
what is a gay or trannie right? what state is discriminating against a trannie? Is the Bill of Rights not apply to them? Or is this about forcing people to celebrate, set asides in govt and the private sector, stifle free speach, and of course using tax dollars to send "therapists" into elementary schools to "protect" and "nurture" and "guide" a confused eight year old as they fully realize their biology is wrong. Come on corn pop...these are fing child abusers...pedos...NAMBLA shit.
And for some real ugliness, the historical semi-sciency roots of the transgender "movement':
https://uncommongroundmedia.com/sexist-science-transsexualism-part-i-benjamin-ihlenfeld-money-ehrhardt/
You think it's already weird? Wait till you get to the transhumanist parts...
After "drag queen story hour", transgender education in elementary school, "we're coming for your children", nudity at gay pride marches, and support for sexualizing children, I don't blame conservatives for rejecting what they think of "the gay agenda".
The left has hijacked gay and lesbian organizations for their political purposes, deliberately created conflict, and is turning gays and lesbians back into a widely despised minority.
There the LGBTQIA2+ community was, minding their own business when ALL OF A SUDDEN!
There has never been an "LGBTQIA2+ community". Historically, L and G did some things together. Other than that, L's and G's know about as much about "BTQIA2+" as your average church going conservative.
For the love of God, what exactly do you do with your dick? Just TELL US ALREADY!
That dude has way more serious problems to deal with at the moment...
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/flash-ezra-miller-temporary-protection-order-massachusetts.amp&ved=2ahUKEwivzviI4b34AhUAk2oFHZWZCBQQ0PADKAB6BAgPEAE&usg=AOvVaw3ypS1D8OW1JEGNu99BhB5i
"Queer" isn't slang for "homosexual" anymore. The term has been hijacked and now means "not heterosexual and/or not cis-gender".
More shocking still, the term 'hijacked' has been hijacked. I'm hijacking it right now.
Nobody knows what it means. I think it can even include vanilla monogamous heterosexuals, as long as they make some sort of offbeat style choice. But I really have no idea.
I tend to think that one's sexual orientation is determined by whatever fills their internet search history, but I'm rapidly becoming a fuddy-duddy.
There are already laws on sexual preference. What they want is super rights above and beyond the rest of us.
No, I think we all have a right to be gay. Most us choose not to exercise it.
I was just elected Spokesman for the Applesauce Marketing Board.
They said it was the only way I'd be elected again.
Ugh! Both Crips (Dems) AND Bloods (Republicans) have Their own breed of Social-Reconstructionism; that said, as a man who lives with two Republicans, I just tune the ???? out.
You’d think finding a stupid Republican somewhere is why we’re paying $6 a gallon for gas.
You can get a whole gallon of gas for $6? That's like the cheapest in the world. That's astoundingly cheap for such a quantity of a product that has to be drilled, refined, and transported without disruption. What an amazing deal.
how far do you have to commute a day for work? For hourly folks who live and work in small towns or rural areas this is a killer. We can't all be part of the "creative" class and live in DC or NYC
Maybe you should have been on team green energy three decades ago like anyone with half a brain. Live by oil, die by oil.
I think they should use the Ludovico method for correcting homosexual behavior.
You think there's a lot of homosexuals who aren't doing it right?
Anyone who can't see the causal relationship between left-wing culture war aggression ("all disagreement is bigotry!") and left-wing "progress" in other areas (such as economics) is an idiot.
Both get them closer to their end-goal... National Socialism (i.e. Nazism) destroying any sign of a USA.
I liked the part where libertarians sat with their thumbs up their assholes for years on end as Republicans passed laws actually restricting people's freedom to live as they choose in a very obvious and theocratic and draconian way because Democrats might make Elon Musk pay a cent more in tax.
Elon Musk could buy Charles Koch's decades of influence several times over, that's the funny part.
There are no such thing as "trans rights" or "straight" rights...that is total bs from the hard left to get govt to push an agenda, force people to "celebrate" and give special treatment. The entire executive order is unconstitional. And I've found this idea that this or that tribe has to be celebrated to be ridiculous. Only people who have an axe to grind, have a deep seated inferiority complex, are insecure, and a chip on their shoulder have to have a "celebration"..no one cares if your gay...or trannie..seriously no one cares..so forget about the attention you are craving if you demand to be "celebrated." As for trannie groomers paid for by tax payers roaming middle and elementary school halls to convince billy he should be castrated or push off puberty...you are sick persons...there are not millions and millions of kids who are confused about their biology..but there are millions who can easily be convinced and abused....the gay community should not want to be associated with these child groomers...
"There are no such thing as "trans rights" or "straight" rights.."
Why not? Don't you have the right to be trans or straight? Or you think the government or anyone else can compel you to do otherwise? We demand our rights to free speech or gun ownership on a daily basis here, so what's all this fuss against insisting on rights of sexual orientation?
"Oh poor us are so depressed" (compel you to do otherwise)...
Wait, what? When exactly was there a law against either....
Oh that's right; there NEVER was any massive suppression...
But typical in this Nazi-Addled nation cries of 'suppression' where no suppression exists *IS* actually cries of self-entitlement by threats of Gov-Guns.
And along with that self-entitlement comes Gov-Guns forcing EVERYONE to serve the SPECIFIC group of "trans rights"... Nazism is EXACTLY what started a culture war. Now that Gov-Guns controls EVERYTHING everyone makes up excuses to get control of those Gov-Guns to dictate/steal from those people...
What is the #1 in-demand resource in the USA today????
Gov-Gun Force.....
Why?
Because Gov-Gun Force is EVERYTHING in a Nazi-Addled Nation.
See so (compel you to do otherwise) actually means compelling wedding cake bakers to bake weddings they don't want too.... What you've stated as a problem isn't a problem until a [WE] mob made the problem and then PROJECTED exactly what they're doing on innocent by standers.
"Wait, what? When exactly was there a law against either...."
It's long been socially stigmatized in civilian and military life, and there were laws against sodomy etc. In the 1960s things started to change.
"Gov-Guns forcing EVERYONE to serve the SPECIFIC group of "trans rights"."
E pluribus unum is what they call it. Written prominently on various government items and symbols. High time you learned what it meant.
So something that was solved in 1960 is the center of attention today ?because.......???? Do tell; how many butt-pokers were charged, fined or imprisoned for butt-poking consequentially as adults? Is joining the military a 'right' or a privilege? Heck; maybe I should have every right to be in the military cause of discrimination...
You see; It's not about 'rights' at all... It's *all* about self-entitlements.
I like when conservatards say that society is perfect and nobody is oppressed (except white heterosexual Christian males, of course), and in the next sentence begin detailing all the ways they want the government to hurt trans people.
Right.. Not enslaving others is hurting 'trans people'.....
Exactly the stance I've been stating all along...
Please share some quotes from people who say they wish the government to harm "trans" people.
Things were simpler when anything sexual was shameful.
When I was a kid it was possible to grow up without knowing that any unmarried adult you knew had a sex life. There were certainly positive aspects to that deception.
I had a friend in high school who is a militant atheist but nevertheless felt guilt every time he masturbated. I think we underestimate the harm that quasi-Puritan sexual mores have done to the American people.
Come to find out, all the preachers behind this were behind male prostitutes as well. There's got to be something amiss when our sexual worldview comes from hypocrites who only care about money.
I had a friend in high school
I doubt that.
Aaaand, I get my first-ever "Your comment is awaiting moderation" notice. Nothing says "free speech" like that, eh?
