Officials in the Chinese city of Langfang ordered the "complete culling of indoor animals" of COVID-19 patients in one neighborhood. The order was later stopped, but it isn't clear how many pets were killed. China has been pursuing a "zero COVID" policy since the pandemic started. While pets can get COVID-19 from their owners, the risk of them spreading it back to other humans is low, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Their total lockdown of Shanghai is just plain weird. It's like a throwback to the Cultural Revolution. Idiots wielding total power. But instead of steel smelting in every lawn, or killing all of the sparrows, we know have zero COVID policy, leading to a complete and utter lockdown of a city as 26 million people get tested, children separated from parents, and a complete collapse of the supply chain. Expect Cultural Revolution style famine (and cannibalism) within a few weeks.

Then again, Shanghai was the alternate Hong Kong. Officially part of China but cultural distinct and an economic powerhouse, how much of this is Communists exacting their revenge against the capitalist city? I think idiocy is the better explanation, but I still don't see them doing this to Beijing.

By the way, I recently thought about buying a dog, but I'm not sure that I can take care of it properly and without problems.
