The CDC Stands Firm on 'Universal Masking' in Schools as Blue States Abandon That Policy
Rochelle Walensky says "now is not the moment" to stop forcing masks on children. Democratic politicians increasingly disagree.

Today New York and Massachusetts joined several other blue states that have recently lifted face mask mandates. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, said businesses will no longer be required to enforce masking of unvaccinated customers, a mandate that was scheduled to expire on Thursday and will not be renewed. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, said he will let that state's school mask mandate expire at the end of this month.
Those decisions follow similar moves on Monday by five other states with Democratic governors. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said the state would stop requiring students and teachers to wear masks on March 7. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said the state will lift its school mask mandate at the end of February. Delaware Gov. John Carney said the state's mask mandate for indoor businesses will end this Friday and its school mask mandate will be lifted at the end of March. California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state's universal indoor mask mandate will end next week, when the requirement will no longer apply to people who are vaccinated. The Oregon Health Authority said a similar requirement will be lifted by the end of March.
This week's flurry of rule relaxations defies the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which still recommends "universal masking" in K–12 schools and day care centers. The CDC also recommends that adults, regardless of their vaccination status, wear masks in "indoor public places" if they live in areas with "substantial or high" coronavirus transmission.
"Right now our CDC guidance has not changed," Director Rochelle Walensky said yesterday. "We continue to endorse universal masking in schools." Walensky said "now is not the moment" to lift mask mandates. White House press secretary Jen Psaki backed Walensky up on Monday. "Our advice to every school district is to abide by public health guidelines," Psaki told reporters. "The CDC is advising that masks can delay, reduce transmission….That still remains our recommendation."
Democratic governors, meanwhile, have concluded that it is not in their political interest to continue enforcing mask mandates. The New York Times reports that Murphy's advisers, stunned by the narrowness of his reelection victory in November, commissioned a series of focus groups to figure out why voters were disenchanted with him. "Across the board," the Times says, "voters shared frustrations over public health measures, a sense of pessimism about the future and a deep desire to return to some sense of normalcy." That research informed Murphy's decision to relax restrictions after this winter's omicron surge began to fade.
The Times says Murphy and other governors tried to persuade the Biden administration to "provide clear guidelines for their states to move from the crisis footing of a pandemic to a recognition that the virus was here to stay—and that it could be managed without completely upending daily life." But as the comments from Psaki and Walensky reflect, that effort was unsuccessful.
Recent evidence suggests that Murphy et al. have a better sense of what voters are willing to tolerate. Yesterday Virginia's Democrat-controlled Senate approved an amendment that would allow parents to opt out of school mask requirements beginning in July. Ten Democrats joined 19 Republicans in supporting the amendment.
Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, whose surprise victory in November was driven largely by parents' anger at their lack of influence over how public schools are educating their children, wants the mandate to end sooner. But the fact that Democrats are now arguing with him about when rather than whether the mandate should be lifted reflects a growing awareness that its burdens are increasingly hard to justify.
That awareness extends to Northern Virginia, an area where support for COVID-19 mitigation measures has been especially strong. In a letter he sent to the superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools on Monday, state Sen. J. Chapman Petersen (D–Fairfax), one of the legislators who supported the amendment approved yesterday, expresses his dismay at the district's continued obeisance to the CDC.
"To the best of my knowledge," Petersen writes, "no scientific basis has ever been offered for Forced Masking; rather parents are asked to assume that this policy 'saves lives.' After a year the data on student masking is easily found and it is overwhelming: the forced masking of school children has no correlation with community health."
Petersen questions the school district's argument that the mask mandate should be maintained because it is "popular" with parents. "By wearing a mask in a public setting," he writes, "the wearer is able to communicate a political message, e.g. 'I Care About Others' or 'I Voted for Biden' or even 'I'm Vaccinated.' The ability to communicate a political message is the essence of our First Amendment, but coercing others into adopting that statement, especially a student in a public school, is the exact opposite."
For two years, Petersen says, "we have seen the lives of our children disrupted and destroyed by a pandemic that posed little, or no, threat to them physically. Too many decisions involving children have been dictated by political expediency. As a parent, I've had enough."
As Petersen notes, the scientific basis for school mask mandates has never been strong, and the case for maintaining them is even weaker now. Life-threatening symptoms have always been rare among children, and that is especially true with the omicron variant, which is highly transmissible but tends to cause milder illness. Vaccines dramatically reduce the risk of severe symptoms for adults as well as children, and immunocompromised people who might not enjoy the same benefit can protect themselves by wearing high-quality masks even without mandates. And the omicron surge is fading fast: The seven-day average of newly identified cases in the United States, which exploded from late December to mid-January, has been falling precipitously since then.
While the CDC's insistence that children as young as 2 should be forced to wear masks did not prevent states like New Jersey and Massachusetts from lifting their state mandates, its recommendations will continue to influence school district policies. And although New York will no longer require adults to wear masks in public, the state health department is expected to renew its school mask mandate, which was scheduled to expire on February 21. California likewise has decided to mandate masks in schools but not in businesses. These states are willing to let people in the highest-risk age groups decide for themselves whether to wear masks, but they are insisting that children, who face the tiniest risk, continue to cover their faces, regardless of what they or their parents want.
Despite the lack of evidence that "universal masking" in schools and day care centers provides benefits that outweigh its costs, Walensky says "now is not the moment" to change course. When will that moment be? I suspect it will arrive after no one is paying attention to the CDC anymore.
Update: Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on Wednesday that the state's indoor mask mandate will end on February 28, although masks will still be required in schools. Also on Wednesday, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee said the state's mask requirement for indoor businesses will be lifted this Friday, followed by its school mask mandate on March 4.

Pull your kids out of government schools. Yesterday.
This is not just about Government schools. As long as the CDC is recommending this, it is too easy for a Karen to walk into a school and threaten to sue under ADA for their asthmatic snowflake or for a teacher to threaten to sue for any COVID injury they may suffer.
This is why all these blue states are doing this. Newsance can happily say he did his part to lift mandates, because he knows that the Federal Government has done enough to make small localities and businesses do it anyways.
Newsance hasn't lifted the mandates, either.
Still gotta' mask on public transport. Still at "mega events" which are pretty small. I think it's 500 or so, but they have to do vaccine card checks and enforce masking.
This is when the line on infections is pointed down almost vertically on the case counts chart and no hospitals in the state are in danger of being overrun, BTW. Everyone has had Omnicron or a vaccine or both. Staffing pressures from sick nurses have eased. And there's no way Newsome doesn't know masks are useless.
There's literally nothing more to be done here. Yet mandates persist.
I still believe that his refusal to abide by his mandates should strike all of them down. If the person whose authority is used to justify them will not abide by them, how can anybody justify they are necessary?
You're not getting any argument from me, there.
Last year, after he mandated restaurants close, all the restaurants in town opened up. They had signs out in front of one place saying "This is a peaceful protest" for most of it, but in December 2020 the sign read "Welcome to the French Laundry."
Dems in Sacramento have never lead by example.
Gavin Newsom said the state's universal indoor mask mandate will end next week, when the requirement will no longer apply to people who are vaccinated.
Shitheads gotta shit.
Ever since Walensky took over, there's been a very noticeable trend in the CDC using studies employing some of the worst methodology and samples imaginable to justify top-down, nationwide public health policies.
She's already shown herself to be a hyper-emotive basketcase in interviews, and is clearly conducting studies with the conclusion in mind and working backwards from there. These Dem governors are trying to send her a message--"Hey, we need to back off of this shit, or not even all the gerrymandering we just did is going to get our clock cleaned this fall"--and she's completely failing to read the room.
Rochelle Walensky is absolutely correct! Now is clearly NOT the time to end the mask mandates. Ending the mask mandates at this time when Covid-19 cases are still quite high and when we're not nearly out of the woods regarding the Covid-19 pandemic is a dangerously irresponsible--and way beyond stupid! If people are smart, they'll continue to mask up until we're safely out of the woods. Ending the mask mandates now would set us way the hell back. We'd be totally screwed.
You should tie a plastic bag around your head at the neck to stop COVID risk entirely.
Vacuum sealer. so he can be certain to get a nice tight fit to make sure none of that nasty virus slips in.
I'm not sure if I've ever read a more hand-wringing squeal in my life.
I can see in the pic that she is wearing a surgical mask with a cloth mask over the top.
Isn't that contrary to their own guidance?
I'm guessing that picture is old, during the Maskarena dance craze in 2021.
Huh, doing a little research on that pic and it might have been from Jan 11, 2022. So she would be one of the few public officials (including Fauci himself, and the president) who's still telegenically double-masking. (always choose a light and dark masks so people can see the layers)
I was gonna say that if you're trying to telegenically convey the layer message, you're supposed to put the light layer on top of the dark layer, but this is Walensky and that's gross.
Her Virtue Signal is stuck on...

She really should add a brown paper bag.
She should switch to plastic, to save the trees.
+ duct tape to stop those annoying leaks.
After all, it IS A DEADLY VIRUS.
If you hook up the air intake of your plastic bag mask to the exhaust system of your soon-to-be-outdated gasoline powered car, the catalytic conversion process *could* render the incoming virus particles completely inert.
. . .
Best Of !
Closed garage works too. The exhaust will push the virus out.
Karen groups could benefit from that method.
With the advances in catalytic converters this takes a whole lot longer than it used to.
Perfect solution!
wheres the panty hose?
Thats the latest useless social mask trend.

she's wearing the deuce
so she has a Deuce on her face..
Fitting.
"By wearing a mask in a public setting," he writes, "the wearer is able to communicate a political message, e.g. [ . . . ] 'I'm Vaccinated.'"
This is not what we were promised.
It was not only what we were promised, it doesn't make sense. "I'm vaccinated and I need extra protection because of it."
Safe AND effective! That's why I need TWO!
I'm vaccinated. And healthy. And probably had omicron, or at least was exposed to it. It's hard to tell when I've had allergy attacks that were more accute than what I felt that weekend.
Which is why I don't give a shit whether you or anyone else is. Because you are no more threat to me than you were in flu season in 2018.
The mask virtue signalling and politicization of EVERYTHING around all 'rona is ruining life. For everyone except the hypochondriacs and germophobes, at least.
But you should wear it anyways AND get the jab, it's just common courtesy!!!!
Exactly. Just courtesy. How could I not understand that?
I had older sisters growing up. I well learned the lesson that, if someone is calling me selfish, it's because they want something I have. Or maybe to relinquish my turn at something.
I actually read an article last night -- one of Diane's links I think -- and they were referring to mask mandates as "Mask Etiquette." Like etiquette is something dictated by the government with the force of law. Newspeak abounds, my friend.
So basically Etiquette is doing something that is completely ineffective just to make some neurotic jerk feel better? That tracks with how these people usually think.
If one person might get the vapors, it must be verboten.
Getting vaccinated and wearing a mask when you're out in public is common sense, because not to do either of those things not only endangers yourself, but other people as well.
You're part of a society, like all of us, and not getting vaccinated if one is able to do so, and wearing masks out in public while the pandemic is still on is to protect other people, as well as oneself, is extraordinarily irresponsible and selfish.
I'll also add that people, including young children, can carry the covid-19 virus without being symptomatic. Children have been known to spread the Covid-19 virus/infection to relatives such as siblings, p;arents, grandparents, and other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Except the vaccine doesn't stop transmission or infection.
Hahahahahahaha
And if you don't, you should never be allowed to leave the house again because of how effective the jab is at protecting people. It is *so* motherfucking effective that people who have gotten it have to be kept isolated from anyone who hasn't because the ones who haven't gotten it are dangerous.
Maybe the story should be how the red states have been maskless for months and months and the kids are just fine. In fact, I would dare say the maskless kids are doing better than the muzzled ones, all considered.
Or maybe the story should be how the Omi wave is passing EVERYWHERE, no matter the rules, and doing it EXACTLY WHEN the seasonality theorists said that it would.
How lucky that they keep being right.
Except that the time scale for Omicron has nothing to do with your "seasonal theorists"
Yes we're just really really lucky to keep predicting virus activity. You nailed it.
I know several people in various red states, and many of them are still dealing with mask mandates.
Public teachers and their union are as Red as it gets.
Hah, yes. Hammer and sickle red.
You can also find yourself in a blue/purple enclave of an otherwise red state.
We don't have any statewide mask mandates in Missouri, since late April of 2020 (lasted 2 weeks as promised) but St. Louis City / County has had one for most of the time. Probably the KC area also, and maybe Columbia Mo as well.
None in Columbia since spring of 21. Almost no restrictions anywhere in the state, and almost all of us survived.
At this point, I simply take advantage.
My job gives you paid time off, without touching your actual time off allowance, if you test positive for COVID.
And I test positive virtually every time I take a rapid test.
So week off with no symptoms whatsoever. Whenever I want to do so.
No fair testing your tap water to get the positives!
Feature!
And ten years from now all of the masked kids will need special treatment because their immune systems are so fragile they won't be able to be around the other kids without the group having to accommodate them in a new victim way. Think about the peanut and gluten kids of today. X10.
The Karen moms will be driving the behavior and special requests of course.
Just to be clear, for your assertion to prove true, the masks would actually have to protect kids from the spread of viruses and bacteria. They don't.
Masks don't protect kids from getting sick. True. They do help to mitigate the spread of things like the cold and flu because they block virus-laden saliva droplets from becoming airborne.
However the costs definitely outweigh the benefits. Masks are child abuse IMHO.
Science! according to the gentleman who calls himself sarcasmic. Which I have always imagined as becoming orgasmic over one's own sarcasm. The prefect handle.
Way to ignore what I said and call me names like a child. You trying to impress the trolls?
Man. Early afternoon victim status for sarc.
And by the way I was agreeing with you. I guess I didn't agree hard enough or something.
I gave your comment the respect it deserved. You started to agree and then proceeded to post misinformation. Masks do not "mitigate the spread of things like the cold and flu because they block virus-laden saliva droplets from becoming airborne".
We now have an additional 2 years of evidence to support what the CDC correctly claimed in March of 2020 because of actual science.
He also has over a year of crying and strawmanning about people saying the truth about masks. I dont know what he is crying about.
"...The prefect handle."
Naah.
It suggests a certain, basic, level of intelligence which that steaming pile of lefty shit never did exhibit.
S/he should just fuck off and die.
He sadly doesn't even know what sarcasm is.
Does he not know, or is he too stupid to do it?
I dunno. To me, sarcasmic seems like the smartest leftist on these boards. Or maybe a close second to Kirkland who is obviously intelligent enough to be an effective troll.
But my favorite is Joe Friday. He’s dumb as a box of horse shit and you can make him cry at the drop of a hat.
Tony is no less stupid.
No. Tony’s pretty fucking stupid, but he has a thick skin.
"Masks are child abuse IMHO."
On this, we can most definitely agree.
They do help to mitigate the spread of things like the cold and flu because they block virus-laden saliva droplets from becoming airborne.
That would be true in a controlled environment with a trained/controlled population. In an environment where the kids eat lunch together with out a mask, wipe their noses on their sleeves, and fidget with anything and everything within reach, and even the President pulls down his mask to cough into his fist, they're of marginal effectiveness.
Seriously, I've worked in a BSL II lab. You don't even have trained *adults* passively sitting or standing around the lab for 8 hours and if they're in the lab for 8 hours, they have their hands in a fume hood doing work. Otherwise, they will inevitably rub their eyes/nose/face with their hand or their sleeve, remove scrunchies and pens/pencils from their hair and behind their ears, carry materials they don't need into or out of the lab, forget where all they've moved a sample and need to wipe down upon exit, etc. And again, that's with trained adults and known infectious material, not children who have no idea what's infectious and what's not as the migrate together from bus to classroom to lunchroom, to gym, to classroom, to bus.
I've had to wear serious respirators for construction projects throughout the years (ever seen the inside of an asphalt plant? I got to grind and weld new blades in that cancer pit) and itchies are some of the most serious workplace hazards when dealing with airborne issues.
I KNEW not to disrupt the respirator seal, but damn if it wasn't like trying to stay underwater when you have no air left.
Covid season? Fuck that, mask comes down to sneeze everywhere I look.
I think "not poking the respirator seal" is a slow concerted willpower check that's even worse than "Hunh, that portion of my anatomy is getting *awfully* warm but I am *so* close to finishing this bead, hold it just a little longer". Because at least you know that's going to stop once you break the arc. And possibly take off your now-smoking glove. 😉
I think they weaken the kid's breathing too, especially when the kids are playing sports. The mask, though porous, inhibit the release of CO2. An increase in asthma in the future?
It is not just the masks that inhibit the germs but the behavior models and rules. Don't touch, don't breath, don't get near, others. A sneeze or cough is wrong. A runny nose is scary. That is contrary to childhood behavior and limits the germ exposure as well.
Agree, that it is abuse at an adult, nanny state level. As if the adults have manufactured this element of safety, yet all the kids get is the fear. Psychologically damaging.
children can be vectors of the Covid-19 virus, despite being not symptomatic. They, too, can be vectors and spreaders of the Covid-19 virus, as well.
So are vaccinated people.
the false construct of
mask protect
should be obvious.
With no intervening process or qualification besides " we say so"
Only morons fell for it.
"all of the masked kids will need special treatment because their immune systems are so fragile"
That is complete fantasy spun out of your head
That is complete fantasy spun out of your head
As a prediction for 10 years from now it would be, wouldn't it. How smart you are. We'll see as this next gen develops under the thumb of this authoritarian policy.
I see peanut allergy and gluten free like special requests in the future. What do you see?
Perhaps u should do a little studying of WHAT wearing a mask "accomplished" during the Spanish Flu over a 3-yr period. Faucci himself was part of a study that determined that wearing a mask did as much long term harm as the virus itself.
The Phucko Knows
Don’t try to argue with Nico, he’s just too smart for the rest of us.
Sweden.
Open Schools for 2 years.
No masking.
16 total deaths under 20 from Covid for the entirety of the pandemic.
Milk. Vitamin D.
Scrawny Prog Soy Boys and Girls dont get it.
"The CDC is advising that masks can delay, reduce transmission….That still remains our recommendation."
-------
Oops! Jen accidentally let a little truth slip out there.
Which truth?
The one that we're all going to get it, somehow? Vaccine, Delta, Omicron exposure (or any various combinations of the above) brings herd immunity. And it won't stop until we're there regardless of a mask everyone knows doesn't work? That truth?
Not just Psacki, but anyone in that roll, has to be a psychopath. I could never stay on message like the political liars, nor could anyone with a normal shame response.
Yep. At best it only delays transmission. Everybody is going to be exposed no matter how many people you personally expose.
The flatten the curve narrative was, in fact, true. The guy who came up with the concept did a great interview a year ago -- I can't find it now.
Anyway, the idea is that it's going to spread, if you slow it enough for hospitals and social services to respond without being overwhelmed, then you lessen the externalities -- people not getting heart attack care or trauma care after an accident, etc.
But that's based on if x% is going to be infected then it'll happen in 2 months or 4 months... but it'll happen.
You want to change that? You become like China, where people have no human rights. Or like New Zealand, where you're a hermit kingdom for a year or two and wait for OTHER places to make a vaccine for you. You don't change that with masks that might, at best, provide a very mild reduction in spread. Even if they had an positive effect on spread, it just makes it take slightly longer to get to x% and then recede.
Another aspect of "flatten the curve" when dealing with a seasonal virus is that over controlling the virus during lulls is actually counter-productive as it leaves more of the population vulnerable during the next peak.
One of my favorite articles on COVID was one describing how to use control theory to vary lockdown restrictions to use as much hospital capacity as possible without overloading them. The idea being that if X people are going to be hospitalized, we should get them through as quickly as possible so we can get back to normal: spectrum.ieee.org/how-control-theory-can-help-control-covid19
Note that this approach likely wouldn't have worked because they were using droplet controls to contain an aerosolized virus, but at least this was a solid approach for deciding how to set the balance between health and economy.
Alas, the balance was never considered. It quickly spiralled into a purely emotional argument and acceptance of any death made you a granny killer or whatever. All the social disruptions and loss of small businesses were never included in the calculations, just the 'If it saves one life' aspect.
I still wonder how much of the troll comments along the lines of "you could kill some old person" by... going to work, not wearing a mask, whatever were actually internet manipulation. Iran, Russia, and especially China are very well known to do massive social media manipulation, as are several homegrown organizations building on the Media Matters successes. But it definitely went from logic to all-or-nothing emotional horseshit in very short order.
> All the social disruptions and loss of small businesses were never included in the calculations, just the 'If it saves one life' aspect.
Which, of course, ironically didn't count any of the lives lost on the other side of the balance sheet to things like reduced nutrition and housing because work went away, or suicide for people who were crushed by the whole thing, or who couldn't get a screening for some other disease because the hospitals wouldn't see anyone for almost anything that wasn't Covid.
All of which is to say that I agree with both of you, there way a way that even if not especially libertarian might have possibly at least been effective and considered the tradeoffs, and instead we got, well, raw emotionally driven fearmongering and screeching.
Yep! Going into winter when it was obvious everybody was getting hit, I kept saying "I'd sure rather be Florida with more of my curve behind me than these northern places." If you think people are going to 'get sick' when you let them out, THERE'S NO BETTER TIME TO DO IT THAN SUMMER. You certainly don't want to drag your curve into what used to be flu season!
And even by early April the 'leaders' realized there was no threat to the hospitals. Coward Jay Inslee dismantled the field hospital at Century Link on April 8 2020, but kept lockdowns going until June 2021.
That's total BS. Masks and vaccines DO work. Stop kidding yourself and do what's necessary not to screw other people over.
That’s our mapol, ignoring the reality of the last two years. Poor little feller.
no it doesn't. masks do nothing useful for anyone. that statement is a outright lie.
"brings herd immunity."
It is increasing clear that there will be no such thing for SARS-CoV-2
Psaki is the US media equivalent of that nasty angry woman on Chinese Communist TV barking the Party Line to viewers.
Piss on Psaki.
Psaki psays pstupid psocialist pshit
and how in the hell do you hire a press secretary who can't speak properly? every other word from her is "um" or "a".
Almost a year and half ago (September 2020), CDC Director Robert Redfield testified before the Senate in that if we wore masks for 6, 8, 10, 12 weeks, we'd have COVID under control:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VmAFl7c8Bs
20, 45, 114, 274....
Sounds like playing the numbers....
Yes, they always act as if a single country can somehow shield themselves from a global pandemic. And anyone with any sense of intelligence knows that China is lying about their numbers, before someone comes in here and says what about China?
Sorta like a single country can end climate change, if it’s the US.
Hoy Is. didnt have it. Were totally isolated.
Their hobby is painting sheep.
"Despite the lack of evidence that "universal masking" in schools and day care centers provides benefits that outweigh its costs, Walensky says "now is not the moment" to change course. When will that moment be?"
1) When we fucking fire the whole lot of these douchebags.
2) When the GOP takes over congress and creates legislation removing QI from Walensky and Fauci, and allows class action suits from parents against the CDC.
3) When the GOP takes over congress and passes legislation requiring any "compulsory mandate on behalf of the public health" to be a "Taking" with due compensation from whichever body of government mandates the behavior.
Oh shit, if Republicans actually got fully on board with the elimination of QI, but made a special effort to make sure teachers, social workers and other government officials were swept up in that along with the police, I could almost see myself orgasmically joining the GOP. For that reason alone.
Damn strait.
Now dont hold your breath.
Unfortunately, none of those will happen. Besides, they're just hapless public servants, trying their best to lead us through this crisis.
kamalas a Pubic servant.
She’s doing the best she can!!!! /s
So they r but a group of complete morons.
The Phucko Knows
~ fuck we're losing votes on the mask thing. quick! change the narrative ...
The media have been vomiting this propaganda out to people they've trained as seals to bark, that have about a 2 week attention span.
This is stringing it way out.
California, for example, did seemingly try to strike a balance with their whole color thing. The problem is that they set their thresholds back when pretty much the only folks getting tested were in the hospital with respiratory symptoms. It was potentially reasonable to lock down when 8/100k people per day were ending up in the hospital. It was economic malpractice to maintain that case threshold once we started picking up mild and asymptomatic cases.
The CDC is currently committing the same type of error: maintaining the thresholds for significant and high community spread they set at the beginning of the pandemic, despite the fact that between vaccination, natural immunity, and a less deadly variant, the population is at least an order of magnitude less vulnerable than when those thresholds were set. If the CDC had updated their guidance that everyone mask at 50 weekly cases/100K to 500 weekly cases/100K, I think you would see that blue governors would still be following the guidance rather than striking off on their own.
I am sorry. This is a reply to the wrong post.
Dependence on Big Brother is easier to promote if people can't control their behavior on their own. She must have another study that tells her that kids need at least 2-3 years of suppression of their facial recognition skills to really stunt their ability to relate to others socially. I have been assured beyond a doubt that this woman is following the science.
"See you next Tuesday"
This is ridiculous. These same asshole governors arrogantly lectured and hectored the American people to 'comply' for two years. They can all go fuck themselves. Nothing they do will ever expiate the harm they have done to us.
In a just world, they would be strung up with piano wire.
Tar and feathers.
They also were remarkably anti-vax before the election in 2020.
Maybe they'll actually be anti-mask and try to gaslight everyone into thinking they weren't pro-mask soon. That would be the only thing I could see happening that would make a good out of this mess.
The collapse of the mask narrative is one of the most fascinating aspects to this whole covid thing. It has been a case study of people who were ordered to wear a ring on their finger to keep tigers away, and now people are shuffling their position around without acknowledging the previous ring they were telling people to wear didn't work, without mentioning anything about the previous two years of ring wearing. No acknowledgment, no 'we were wrong', not even 'the scienctism has resettled'. Just 'do this now'.
It's not surprising that the true believers of the Branch Covidian cult are bitterly clinging to the tenets of their church.
While the priests of the cult quietly exit the building...
with the Offerings...
A+ post.
lolword.
...after they did to us what Priests do to Altar Boys....
Borrowed from The Night of the Comet movie
Funny how the party of SCIENCE!!!!, who claimed to believe in SCIENCE!!!!, who claimed that they were following the SCIENCE!!!!, and who had signs on their lawn proclaiming how in their houses they believed in SCIENCE!!!!, forgot all about SCIENCE!!!! when they started losing elections.
Meanwhile…
The Journal of the American Medical Association will be publishing a study from researchers at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine showing that unvaccinated persons who contracted COVID retained COVID antibodies in their systems for as long as two years after being infected, and therefore enjoy immunity from further infection by COVID. One of its authors suggested that we should stop speaking of the “vaccinated versus the unvaccinated” and instead speak of the “immune versus the non-immune.”
I am waiting to see if Facebook, YouTube and Twitter block the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as a purveyor of “misinformation.”
The policy worked-ish will be the new mantra.
"vaccinated versus the unvaccinated” and instead speak of the “immune versus the non-immune.”
Proving the vaccine may as well be purified water. Its useless.
The Roman Emperor demanded Christians could practice their non State approved religion so long as they went to the Temple and pinched incense on the altar to the State.
They already slapped that label on the BMJ, why should Johns Hopkins be any different?

They're waiting for Biden to officially proclaim the pandemic over during the State of the Union address next month.
Not that this has anything to do with political polls.
My thinking exactly. Blue states lifting mask mandates now can be pointed at to 'prove' we can go back to normal, because we all know the covid numbers will continue to crater as we get into spring.
"Together we sacrificed and beat the virus. Now science proves we can go back to normal, except mail-in voting."
The Democrats figure that if they get rid of masks now, people will have forgotten about them by November.
Their psychological damage and persistent debt hopefully will remind them.
Can people living in their cars register to vote?
No Joe!
Neanderthals, the whole lot of them.
What we are seeing over the last year is the beginning of a political realignment, I believe. Actually, 2020 voting patterns demonstrated it probably started before then but gained steam during 2021. We are seeing lifelong Democrats, especially women and Hispanics, leaving the party in drove (and interestingly the biggest driver of Hispanics are also women). The thing is once a person leaves a party they are unlikely ever to return to it.
The Republican party is taking notes, and is already making huge plays for Hispanics and are talking about making a huge play on educational freedom. The thing about political realignments is they generally last for at least a generation. They also tend to be driven by one side or the other overplaying their hand, and overreaching. The left has dominated since 2000 the political discourse, even when Republicans have controlled the federal government. Expect Republicans to making a bigger play for black votes too in the coming years, we are starting to see a growing number of blacks voicing their dissatisfaction with Democratic politics, wokeism, and as a result increasing attacks against blacks who speak out on these matters. Generally, attacks like these occur when the in power crowd is realizing the threat to their power and attacks are the only way they see to limit the damage.
Unlike predictions of no Republican elected in our lifetime or the future is left type articles, political realignments don't preclude the other side from winning elections, but means that the overall trajectory of politics will drift towards a new paradigm.
Of course I could be wrong, but my reading of events tends to show rather than abating and temporary, these changes are accelerating. This is the time for libertarians, libertarian-leaning conservatives and classical liberals to help direct the path of this realignment. Many of the younger, often ethnically diverse candidates the GOP is fielding this year tend to be more libertarian or classically conservative leaning. We can and should help steer this movement. And don't limit it to Republican candidates only, we need to also attempt to steer the Democrats in the same direction. Voting 3rd party may feel good, but we may need to vote in the primaries and in the general election for representatives and senators who are more libertarian/classical liberal, even if they aren't a 100% fit.
By seizing this opportunity, we can help shape the political paradigm for the next 20 years.
How can you possibly think we should vote for Republicans? I guess you're just another Trump cultist. - the usual suspects
Trump isn't going to be on the ballot in the future (okay, tiny probability of 2024). School choice and public safety look like they are going to be issues that can peel off Democrats.
The current batch of Republicans also appears to be far less interested what two consenting adults get up to and are far less prudish than prior batches (and progressives are far more interventionist than prior Democrats). As that gets recognized, I believe that will also bring some people in who were pushed out by Republicans' prior stances on social issues.
Oh absolutely, and I think soldier is spot on with his analysis.
I think he's saying don't vote for the Commie Democrats. Which leaves u the Republicans. A roll of the dice that has to be taken so as to destroy these Evil picks who run the D.
The Phucko Knows
Hispanics should be driven...
To the Mexico border.
Trump is the one thing that can screw up the GOP's chances in 22 and 24
Yep. If he were smart he would deflect all the fire until right before the election and then decline to run.
I don't know how much of a trouble he is, his approval rating is around 50% currently and he polls ahead of Biden and Harris in a hypothetical matchup.
"he polls ahead of Biden and Harris in a hypothetical matchup."That is proving to be a rather low bar
Democrats, wrong then, wrong now. They should be mocked mercilessly wherever they go as anti-science hicks.
I am a teacher at a small school district in East Texas. Our district cancelled the mask mandates late last Spring and dropped all the social distancing strategies in August at the beginning of this school year. According to our "COVID Dashboard", our district has exactly zero active COVID cases among our over 3000 students and employees.
YAY THAT !!!!!
Nonconformists.....
"Rochelle Walensky says "now is not the moment" to stop forcing masks on children."
Correct. That was a couple of years back and continuing ever since.
"When will that moment be? I suspect it will arrive after no one is paying attention to the CDC anymore."
So, last week.
Look who made Defiant L's:

I keep forgetting. When are midterms again?
Vote Biden 2022 !!
"Now is not the moment", is true, for those of us who value human life, ESPECIALLY when, in spite of anti-vax, anti-mask whackos, the end of this mess is SO near. To blow it now would be devastating, and, cost American lives.
Have you followed any of the science on this.? Do you even read Reason? There is no evidence that masks in schools have saved lives.
LOL
What will trigger "the end" and how does masking make "the end" come sooner?
Seems to me that "the end" comes when a high enough percentage of people are immune that we don't worry about hospitals getting overwhelmed when the next peak blows through. Under that analysis, any effort to control the virus actually delays "the end".
...for PROFIT...
while they react with mock horror...
Too late, son. You’ve lost.
Methinks this post is dry sarcasm.
Nah, if I remember his past posts correctly, he fully believes this hogswash.
How does actions in the US help end a global pandemic? Has any of the new variants originated in the US? Has anything we've done stopped the new pandemics traveling to the US?
One presumption is that the variants develop everywhere.
A non-insane person should have come to the conclusion that one CANT hide from it anywhere.
But we know the COVID theater actors aren't exactly sane.
no theyre fucking nuts!
Plain and simple dude. U r a freaking clown show of propaganda sold as truths. So yes... YOU r but an intellectual child with the intellectual depth of a two week old mud puddle.

Masking in schools makes perfect sense. It's a one stop shop for security blankets and keeping kids from spitting on each other. What's not to love?
Masking?. HEY, isn't the INJECTION what we should discuss?

He responded with an evil grin.
Ive been suggesting it inline ever since.
Looks as if its happened. Long haul truckers have shut down the interstate bridge from US to Canada.

JUST IN - Canada: Alberta to scrap vaccine passport program at midnight tonight, Premier Jason Kenney announces."
Saskatchewan too.
https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2022/02/08/saskatchewan-to-become-first-province-to-drop-proof-of-vaccination-requirements.html?rf
Oh, and just to REALLY stick to the Americans........
Alberta will remove nearly all restrictions for children, including the mask mandate in schools (kindergarten to Grade 12) over the coming weekend. Kids aged 12 and under also won’t have to abide by the general mask mandate in Alberta, though the general mandate will still apply for the rest of the population.
“It is time to let kids be kids,” said Kenney.
Hail the free nation of Truckistan!
Knows the mask is futile...wears 2 masks for show. Democrats gotta Democrat.
What more can this fucked up agency do to demonstrate its own dysfunctionality? Dismember it and salt the ground upon which it stood. My grieving Christ, is this not the least we should do to these grotesque hyenas?
Great sarcasm!!!
The FDA too.

THREAD: If you had something awful happen to you as a result of COVID restrictions, reply below. Gonna read these on my radio show tonight.
Go:
The first year nearly broke my business. Started a landscape and design company just before Covid hit, same fiscal year. Customers dried up instantly as everyone went to lockdown. Fucking blue state.
So, because I was the business owner, I got no out-of-work subsidies. I was expected to submit forms demonstrating financial loss for the business for the hardship grants. Given that it was a new business without a prior year revenue for comparison, there was no claim to make.
Fun times. Absolutely fucked our rainy day budget from the starting gate.
Business startup losses. Its 100% in that case.
"Given that it was a new business without a prior year revenue for comparison, there was no claim to make."
. Go to SBA and ask for data on comparable businesses. They have all that.
Claim on that basis.
The CDC has essentially solidified themselves as an untrustworthy joke.
In 2 years they went from the gold standard, boring, source of information for disease info / epidemiology (at least to the common man) to a full on political outfit running cover for petty authoritarian fear mongers.
They will scratch their heads for years wondering why Joe Public gets his information on health/disease from youtube and wont take a second to listen to them. This moment right here pretty much completely locks them in as political hacks
Joe P. best get used to reading research papers for himself. I did.
Everyone has access to them thru theur phones. No Priest needed.
This actually really pisses me off.
Reading studies is not my day job. I don’t get paid for it and I have no professional training. Whenever I try, I always have to run to my wife asking technical questions about standard deviations and confidence intervals and shit like that. But I if I want to be informed, I really don’t have much choice anymore than to do it myself. My faith in the scientific establishment has been irrevocably shattered.
Theyve made up Olympic style events for the Biden Admin to make him feel like part of the action:
Two-yard dash
Downhill economics
Conclusion Jumping
Falling uphill
Freestyle Spending
Speed drooling

Poll numbers dip, reverse the chokehold and make the peasants happy.

These people are the true domestic terrorists instilling fear and neuroticism in the population, destroying businesses, and torturing children.
The definition of terrorism from the Fbis website was violence or threat of to cause political CHANGE.
Which party is all about " change?"
It aint the Amish.
The face mask has become the Nazi swastika armband of our day. It shows others you are ‘loyal to the party’ or at least that you are afraid to defy the powers that be. It is purely a political gesture at this point and compelling it is a violation of others’ free speech. These school officials should be held liable for that.
the fools dont get the symbolism of mask suppressing their speech.
Stupid is as stupid does.
I still see people wearing masks at the beach with 10 mph breeze blowing.
Just for the record, this is what the CDC has always said about masks and the 'real' flu:
"Unvaccinated Asymptomatic Persons, Including Those at High Risk for Influenza Complications
No recommendation can be made at this time for mask use in the community by asymptomatic persons, including those at high risk for complications, to prevent exposure to influenza viruses"
No explanation ever as to why the Communist Chinese Virus was structurally different enough to require the 'full fascism' response.
Its very simple.
About 10 years ago, a newms item hit BRIEFLY... " massive stockpiles of flu vax held by da Gummit."
That story vanished quickly.
Thereafter da Gummits " everybody must get a flu vax" was the Party Talking Point.
Requiring masks admits the flu vax didnt work.
Count de Money. Its Messaging and Money.
Controls no fun with out money.
Remember the good old days when liberals were complaining that the Trump administration wasn't providing any 'direction' during the pandemic?
Apparently they only wanted the guidance so they could ignore it.
They want obedience from the low-lifes while the elite do their own thing.
Kind of like Bill Gates scolding everyone about climate change then living in a 66,000 sq ft house and flying on private planes and hosting huge parties on his yacht.
" Guidance for Thee, but not for Me, Peasants!"
CDC
It is hard for people to admit they're wrong. Especially people in power.
Or people with degrees.
There's an amusing line in "San Andreas" after the earthquakes start up where a reporter is asking Paul Giamatti's professor character, "Why didn't you know that these earthquakes were coming?", and he responds by saying, "Contrary to what some people might believe, scientists don't know everything."
Who was the last scientist or "expert" in real life who showed that level of humility and perspective--Richard Feynman, maybe? A big problem with American society is that our elites, across the entire socio-economic spectrum, possess an unjustified level of arrogance that's fueled largely by stupidity.
I think many real scientists do have humility and perspective. The scientists who morph into politicians or media stars lose all humility and perspective.
And the "believe in science" claim is the biggest oxymoron of all time. Real belief in science means that you allow people to ask as many questions or point out as many objections to a theory as they like - not try to silence critics as sources of "disinformation"
Especially when their job is to convince everyone how smart they are and how they should make all the decisions.
The CDC Stands Firm on "Being Wrong"
The CDC, like the rest of Joey's regime, has long since lost all trust and credibility. Far as the places where these oppressive measures are being lifted, the politicians see mid-term elections coming, and trust the average person is too stupid to remember the last two years of politically-driven, unjustified harassment, punishment, and house arrest. Vote these fuckers out in November, or when you get the chance.
