Brickbat: Smoke 'Em While You've Still Got 'Em

The government of New Zealand said it plans to ban anyone born after 2008 from ever legally buying cigarettes. Some 11.6 percent of all New Zealanders over 15 smoke. But 29 percent of Maori adults smoke. "If nothing changes, it would be decades till Maori smoking rates fall below 5 percent, and this government is not prepared to leave people behind," said Associate Minister of Health Ayesha Verrall. The proposed law would also reduce the number of stores that can sell tobacco products and cut the amount of nicotine tobacco can contain.

Less nicotine per cigarette usually leads to more smoking, not less. This is central planning at its worst.
And smoking is more harmful than vaping.
Not to mention that the harmful part of smoking is not the nicotine, it's the combustion byproducts.
But vaping is a gateway activity that may lead to questioning authority and insurrection. Or some such nonsense. And vaping also did not bring in the bug tobacco campaign donations nor did it fill state coffers with cigarette tax money.
Well, nicotine isn't great. But your point is valid. the real danger is the cancer and emphysema and dung damage that comes from burning leaves.
But not he marijuana burning! That’s ok
That isn't Chumby's marijuana, it's his bug tobacco burning.
After leaving my previous job 12 months ago, i've had some good luck to learn about this website which was a life-saver for me... They offer jobs for which people can work online from their house. My latest paycheck after working for them for 4 months was for $4500... Amazing thing about is that the only thing required is simple typing skills and access to internet...Read all about it here... "Well, nicotine isn't great."
Nicotine by itself is about as dangerous as caffeine.
And vaping is more harmful than covid!
this government is not prepared to leave people behind
Yeah, that's a common problem with government - they just will not ever leave you the hell alone.
People need to be rescued from the choices government wishes they would not make, especially ethnic minorities.
Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem called "White Man's Burden". My favorite work of his, because it was a conflicted reflection of himself and the society he lived in. The same attitude that infected the British Raj now infects the do-gooder progressive. "We're White therefore it is our burden to guide and direct people of color."
The paternalism is sickening.
Like the Democratic Party in the USA: Telling POC what to do since 1828.
Ahem I believe the year was 1619
not prepared to leave people behind
People? No. Corpses? Yes.
To paraphrase Cpt. Terrell: Not a hard path of progress to follow. Leaves dead men wherever it goes.
Sorry, looking cool is for Old Zealanders only.
They would probably be more free if China conquered them.
China already has.
Sounds racist to me.
But is it anti-racist?
Every time I read A New Zealand brickbat, I hear Luke saying "Captain, I wish you'd stop bein g so good to me."
This brickbat has given me a good chuckle. Has this government douche bag ever listened to what he says? The first thing that pop into my head was that he must think he is Mighty Mouse: "Here he is to save the day. Mighty Mouse is on his way".
My thought was:
Take up the White Man's burden—
Send forth the best ye breed—
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness
On fluttered folk and wild—
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half devil and half child.
p.s. Yes, Kipling wrote that as an exhortation for US Imperialism in the Philippines. But a closer read suggests to me that he meant it in a very self conflicted way. Not excusing Kipling's racism, but he was someone who at least recognized his own racism. Unlike much of the modern left.
At least New Zealand repealed its cigarette protecting ban on the sale/use of far less harmful nicotine vapor products.
In sharp contrast, the US FDA has banned the sale of ALL nicotine vapor products except those whose application FDA approves (a ban that was imposed by FDA in 2016, and was absurdly upheld by Obama appointed federal judge Amy Berman Jackson (the same partisan judge who imprisoned Roger Stone because he supported Trump).
But five years after FDA banned the sales of all vapor products, the FDA has only approved one tobacco flavored vapor product (made by RJ Reynolds), which has 1% of the US market share of several million vapor products still on the market.
The FDA hasn't begun enforcing its five year old vapor product sales ban because doing so would create a $5+ Billion black market for 99.99% of the million plus vapor products now on the US market, would sharply increase cigarette sales/consumption, which would expose the FDA as the lung cancer and emphysema promoting cigarette protection agency it has become, just as Philip Morris intended when (along with Big Pharma funded CTFK, ACS, AHA, ALA, AAP, AMA, etc.) authored, secretly negotiated, and aggressively lobbied Congress to enact the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, and when Philip Morris/Altria, RJ Reynolds, British Tobacco, Imperial Tobacco, Japan Tobacco joined forces with those same Big Pharma funded groups who were also financed by Bill Gates and Mike Bloomberg.
WE CARE
Therefore we have the right to control you.
But 29 percent of Maori adults smoke.
And if you force them to quit cold turkey, they might pick up their spears.

I'm old enough to remember when libertarians were moving to New Zealand for the freedom....
Didn't all the tech billionaires build their global bug-out sanctuaries in New Zealand? That might explain the expanding nanny trends.
If you're worried about nuclear war, the Southern Hemisphere is a good idea.
If you've moved to Oceania to avoid government overreach, you've moved to the wrong place.
We had a good run. Then we got another left wing government....
~~ looks into New Zealand "import" opportunities.
The Kiwi's exported Helen Caldicott, and ran off with the America's Cup, and all we got was some silly giant chinese gooseberries.
When will the Joe Camel haka debut on PBS?
Why can’t those pesky black people make the correct decision that their white betters want?
How dare they decide to do something bad for their own health?
It seems that New Zealand has become a socialist, fascist, hellhole.
War is peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength
Our government tried putting up the price of ciggies every year by 10-20%. The result - a lot of corner store robberies and no real change in rate of smoking. Also more impoverishment in the groups that they were trying to dissuade.
Naturally the lesson they learned from this was "more and harder".
Nice Blog, keep it up for more information like this. 2:22 A GHOST STORY
