Dalhousie University, a public university in Nova Scotia, is advertising for a tenure-track professor of experimental chemistry position. The ad says the school is seeking someone "to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in chemistry and to develop vigorous and creative research programs with external funding." Oh, and that person must "self-identify in one or more of the following groups: indigenous persons, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women and persons of a minority sexual orientation and/or gender identity."

1) It is required for the prosecution to prove the case. An inadequate defense will still prevail if the prosecutor fails.
2) Maintaining a consistent narrative is critical to prevailing in any legal matter.
3) There would have to be an increase of risk and reward for there to be any "doubling down". The metaphor is inapplicable and inappropriate.

"Experimental Chemistry". I don't think I'd take that class no matter how easy the Professor was. I can see it now. KABOOM! What happened? The Chem Lab blew up! Fifteen students were killed. Did the Professor fuck up? You can't say that! If you want to keep your job, you will attend Diversity training!

Trying to get diversity on campus is one thing, especially in monochromatic Nova Scotia. But one still wants the best qualified applicant. Period. If that best applicant can check off multiple boxes, then fine. But it should never be the primary criterion.

It's not 'experimental' as in 'untested' it's 'experimental' as in 'how to set up and conduct an experiment'. How to calibrate, use, instrumentation, how to handle and dissolve compounds, how to use volumetric glassware accurately... the most dangerous thing we did in my experimental chemistry class was boil paperclips.

Calibration and maintenance of sarc-o-meters was not covered.
