Joe Biden Will Let World Leaders Know He Wants To Spend a Lot of Money on Climate Change
Plus: New York City's vaccine mandate is accidentally shrinking the city's workforce, a windowless dorm in California stokes controversy, and more...

World leaders are gathering to discuss climate change at a United Nations summit, just as President Joe Biden tries to get his own spendy domestic environmental agenda over the finish line. This week, the U.N.'s 26th Climate Change Conference will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, where world leaders will discuss their plans for meeting the emissions reduction targets set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement.
It's an opportunity for Biden to convince both world leaders and the American public on his $555 billion plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions via a package of tax credits and subsidies.
The plan, part of a slimmed-down $1.75 trillion "Build Back Better" spending framework unveiled by the White House on Thursday, includes $320 billion in tax credits for clean energy power generation, electric vehicles, and lower-emission manufacturing. Some $110 billion would be spent on attempting to goose the domestic production of solar panels, batteries, and other less green industries like cement and steel. Another $105 billion would be spent on "resilience investments" to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events and "legacy pollution."
Negotiations are continuing between congressional leadership and the White House, but it's possible the "Build Back Better" framework will get a vote in the House later this week alongside an infrastructure bill that would authorize around $500 billion in new spending.
While domestic political wrangling over this spending plan continues, the president is touting all the environmental spending contained in the bill as evidence that the U.S. is committed to tackling climate change.
"This framework makes the most significant investment to deal with the climate crisis that has ever, ever happened—beyond any other advanced nation in the world," said Biden in a White House speech on Thursday, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Whether the size of the climate provisions in the still-unpassed framework is enough to convince other countries to take more ambitious actions of their own remains to be seen. A G-20 summit in Rome over the weekend, which featured leaders of many of the same nations that will be represented in Glasgow, reportedly made almost no progress on how to cut greenhouse emissions, reports the Journal.
Despite the international image Biden is trying to cultivate as a global climate warrior, his administration has backed a number of less-than-green policies here at home. The White House's Council on Environmental Quality is in the middle of a rewrite of federal environmental review rules that will make it far more expensive to complete projects environmentalists would normally endorse, whether that's building wind farms off the coast or implementing congestion pricing in New York City.
The latest version of the "Build Back Better" framework also maintains a $20 billion bailout for the National Flood Insurance Progam, an effective subsidy for people to live in coastal areas threatened by rising sea levels.

New York City's vaccine mandate is proving to be a surprise means of marginally shrinking government payrolls. Beginning Monday, city workers who have yet to get a single vaccine dose will be required to stay home. The New York Post reports that some 20,000 government employees, or about 10 percent of the city's workforce, will be put on unpaid leave today.
That includes some 3,700 fire department employees, 8,000 police, and 2,000 sanitation workers. Fewer cops and firefighters on the streets have some worried that a vaccine mandate intended to improve public health will instead diminish public safety.
At least when it comes to firefighters, people should rest easy. The number of fires that occur in the country has been steadily declining for decades. Meanwhile, the number of career firefighters continues to grow.
Whatever one thinks of vaccine mandates for government employees, if some of the fire department's vaccine refuseniks stay home permanently, New York City will end up setting fewer tax dollars alight.

A plan for a blocky new college dormitory at the University of California, Santa Barbara campus has the internet arguing about how much density is too much density. The controversial 11-story dorm would pack 4,500 students into small, mostly windowless single-occupancy rooms. The design of the building is the brainchild of billionaire investor Charlie Munger, who has promised to donate $200 million to the $1.5 billion project on the condition that his plans be followed to the letter.
In response to Munger's proposal, an architect on the university's design review board quit in protest, saying per the Daily Nexus student paper, that "the building is a social and psychological experiment with an unknown impact on the lives and personal development of the undergraduates the university serves."
On Twitter, others were more favorable to Munger's proposal. People have suggested that windowless, single-occupancy rooms might be an improvement over traditional shared dorm rooms and that they might even shift the Overton window on "the cube"—a utopian "yes in my backyard" (YIMBY) plan to house all of humanity in a single building in Manhattan.

Biden evidently literally crapped his pants in front of the Pope.
During a climate conference where 20-30,000 'experts' flew in, charged their electric cars with diesel generators, and were exempt from Covid restrictions.
Where climate change is concerned, symbolism is far more important than substance.
Yes - by everyone.
One side appears convinced that the only purpose of the phrase is to rationalize spending money. The other appears convinced that the only purpose of the phrase is to rationalize denying that it can exist.
Which I guess is good since it appears that the only outcome of that is to convince 16 year old autistics that their life will be meaningless and it is time to panic.

This, I am convinced, is what is behind the Vaccine Mandates for schools. It isn't enough for people to get the jab- for many it is a good idea. But there is absolutely no reason for 99% of children to get the Vaccine. The only legitimate reason to do it is to prove to people that they are there to comply with the state.
Same for “cloth face coverings “, a totally useless item for stopping virus transmission, but a very effective tool for dehumanizing and demoralizing people.
And also antisocial distancing.
How we require all "cloth face coverings" to have the logo "Let's Go Brandon"?
I prefer to wear a mask with "LGB" printed on it. That's enough to confuse people on both sides.

Unfortunately the local private school requires masks. It's not a government mandate, it's scared parents who want it. I don't think they are the majority, but they put enough pressure on the school to demand masks.
Homeschool, Anteater? Easier said than done, I agree.
People have lost their minds on this. I've personally witnessed people overjoyed at the prospect of getting their toddler jabbed, "So we can visit Grandma now." What can you do when faced with that? Oh, and their vote counts just as much as yours.

Wisconsin Elections Commission ‘Shattered’ Laws By Telling Nursing Home Staffers To Illegally Cast Ballots For Residents
https://thefederalist.com/2021/10/29/wisconsin-elections-commission-shattered-laws-by-telling-nursing-home-staffers-to-illegally-cast-ballots-for-residents/
The investigation came about when a woman named Judy signed a sworn affidavit with the Wisconsin Elections Commission after she discovered that her mother, who had died on Oct. 9, 2020 after a period of severe cognitive decline, had voted in the 2020 presidential election. The affidavit was later passed along as a complaint to the county district attorney.
Judy alleged that her mother Shirley’s mental state had deteriorated so far that she was having hallucinations and wasn’t able to recall what she had eaten during a day or even what day it was. According to Judy, her mother couldn’t see — her glasses were broken, and she couldn’t even recognize her own daughter — so even if she were of a sound mind, she wouldn’t have known whether someone assisting her with a ballot had voted according to her wishes.
Luell, who led the investigation at the request of the district attorney, found an unusual spike in voting at this care facility: 42 people had voted in the 2020 presidential election. That number is usually 10. Furthermore, in 2020, 38 people had requested absentee ballots, up from the usual 0-3 in normal years.
When Luell attempted to contact the families of these voters to check whether their loved ones had the cognitive capacity to cast a vote, seven replied no, and almost all of them hadn’t voted since 2012. One of the family members said his mother would ask him who he was, meaning she didn’t recognize her own son. She hadn’t voted since 2012 — yet MyVote Wisconsin revealed she voted twice in 2020.

We're running out of boxes.
Last night was halloween, and I went out with my youngest kids to tour the neighborhoods. Two observations:
Dear god, we are back! Roving bands of little spidermen and ghosts abounded. And this is in California. Last year, Halloween had cold water dumped on it by Fauci when the CDC lit the signal flare in the Kulture Warz, declaring that The Science! (™) said kids ought not be trick or treating.
It is amazing just how fragile hundred-year traditions really are. I would guess about 30% fewer houses giving out treats. Another third of the houses just put candy on the driveway, which was gone within 30 minutes of sunset. The kids were kind of at a loss...They forgot about going up to doors and ringing the bell. Instead they would pass a house if people weren’t on the driveway handing out candy. It took a good half hour to get the group of 15 or so kids back to following the basic rules- Don’t run on lawns; watch before crossing the street; don’t wander off; if the light is on, it’s ok to knock.
It amazes me that if this had been suppressed for another year or two, I could see Halloween disappearing altogether.
I could see Halloween disappearing altogether.
Not if the Dentist Association has anything to say in the matter.
Gotta start with the "lesser" holidays like Halloween and St. Paddy's. Once people are conditioned to that, you can start working toward Thanksgiving and 4th of July. Only after you've dissolved those can you go after Christmas.

I am all for having spirited debates about whether Slaughterhouse-Five is appropriate for a middle school library. And I tend to lean towards being permissive. But I fully believe that it is within parents' rights to object to this content. And if "Experts" are allowing this stuff into the library, then those Experts are the ones who lost this election for McAuliffe. They should look at him and say, "You fucked up! You trusted us!"
Not wanting your children to think blowing adult men is a fine pastime, is hate.
It's kinda like the worst fears of impending societal depravity held by old fuddy-duddies in the sixties, are actually coming true.

Who runs the school board where you live? And if you live in a state where school districts include say 50 elementary schools and 14 middle schools and 10 high schools and 15 charter schools that cover the full range of ages - then which parents will have the slightest interest in figuring all that out?
get rid of public school entirely. problem solved.
Yasure yabetcha. Just transfer tax money to individual parents to spend at 'charter schools'. If they decide to pick a 'school' where the only 'books' in the 'library' are "Whiskey", "Gin", and "Opium" that's ok. Kids are just parental property.
exactly. glad you agree
Why force people to pay for shit that others should be providing for themselves?

This from the same guy who was bellyaching about how parents used to be involved in these kinds of issues. Now his take is that, since they apparently became more apathetic since his Wonder Years, they have no right to get involved in school matters ever again.
No you moron. I'm pointing out the COST of having schools managed as districts rather than individual schools. Parents can only really be involved at individual school management - because that's where their own kids are attending. No reason to believe they know shit about high school if their kids are elementary.
Schools are managed by 'experts' because they are managed at district level - not individual school level
Parents can only really be involved at individual school management - because that's where their own kids are attending. No reason to believe they know shit about high school if their kids are elementary.
Magnificent circular reasoning there.
More accurately - the reason you don't understand why 'experts' and bureaucrats would be running school districts no matter how districts or schools get reformed.
If they are managed as districts, experts will manage them.
Get rid of districts as a management thang - and you can diminish the power of experts.

VIDEO: Bride, Mother Beg Leftist Anti-Sinema Protesters to Stop ‘Ruining’ Wedding
https://www.breitbart.com/local/2021/10/31/video-bride-mother-beg-leftist-anti-sinema-protesters-stop-ruining-wedding/
A bride in Arizona and her mother asked protesters outside a wedding where Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) officiated recently to not disrupt the event, according to Fox News.
Sinema was reportedly officiating the wedding for a friend when protesters gathered outside the venue, chanting and holding signs with phrases such as “Sinema Betrays Democrats” and “Sinema Sell-Out!’ written on them, according to video of the incident.
In the clip, a woman who appeared to be the bride told protesters said, “Hi, thanks for ruining my wedding. I really appreciate it,” to which someone off camera replied, “You know what? She’s ruining our lives.”
And that makes it OK to ruin someone else's wedding, apparently. God I hate fucking activists.
If you associate with apostates, you must be scourged as well. Burn the heretic and anyone who supports them!
I am mildly surprised that pepper spray was not employed. 'Cause if you tried that at my daughter's wedding and refused polite requests to stoo, I am thinking proper spray might be about the mildest response I could come up with.
"You get more of what you reward, and less of what you punish." Sounds familiar, for some reason...
The protesters weren't trespassing, were they? Doubt the cops would do shit on a disturbing the peace call. Which, sadly, leaves less civilized methods for discouraging this kind of behavior.

Still not convinced the US is a fundamentally WHITE SUPREMACIST nation, poisoned to its rotten core with SYSTEMIC RACISM? Just look at pro sports for proof.
As the World Series plays out this weekend between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros, the glaring lack of Black players on both teams, and MLB in general, is not lost on up-and-coming Black players.
Perhaps some kind of affirmative action policy is necessary to ensure a critical mass of Black bodies on the baseball field.

Maybe they could breed more? I heard that the Democrats used to do that in the South some time ago.
That was just another blatant lie about racism in America by NBC News, which knows that blacks account for far more than 13% of MLB players.
I wouldn't be surprised if left wing media propagandists similarly claim the NBA is racist because there is even one white player on the court (or on a team).
Billionaire Mega-Donor At Center Of Hunter Biden Art Sales Raises Ethics Concerns
https://dailycaller.com/2021/10/31/hunter-biden-art-moishe-mana-milk-studios-mazdack-rassi-mana-contemporary/
A billionaire with a history of using art to steer donor cash and support for the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden is at the center of a recent Hunter Biden art show, raising ethical concerns among watchdogs and experts.
An art, fashion, and entertainment enterprise of billionaire business mogul Moishe Mana named “Milk Studios” hosted a Hunter Biden art exhibition in Los Angeles on Oct. 1, where the president’s son and his Manager George Bergès entertained a crowd of about 200 potential buyers. Mana’s Mana Group website at the time of publishing lists Milk Studios as a business enterprise in its expansive portfolio.
The Daily Caller contacted the prominent Democratic donor to ask about ethical concerns of co-owning the studio space for Hunter Biden’s Los Angeles art event. Mana replied, “Go fuck yourself u piece of shit garbage.” The Israeli-American billionaire declined to comment because the Daily Caller is “owned by a crazy..bad guy.” He then referred to the reporter asking the question as “a nazi jew” who should “[g]o find a real journalist job.”
That escalated quickly.
What the fuck is with all the batshit crazy billionaires lately? Did someone poison the money supply or something?
This isn't anything new--"The Gospel of Wealth" has been a holy book for generations of billionaires on the value of worldy social indulgences to absolve yourself of the evil shit you did to obtain power, and the entire arc of post-WW2 religion in American life can be explained by the deep insinuation of the Social Gospel into mainstream Christianity.

In Scat Francisco, the city that comedian Bobby Slatyon (I believe) once memorably said “makes its own gravy,” the local Walgreens drug stores are closing. The local zombies – drug-induced ones, not to be confused with the one occupying the Oval Office – like to stagger in and load up on the goods from the shelves, then carry their loot outside and sell it. Again, not surprisingly, the City (I grew up just outside of it and it has always referred to itself as “the City” though now, thanks to its bountiful harvest of bum droppings, a vulgar, rhyming adjective is more apt) recently elected a – wait for it – Soros-purchased DA who doesn’t believe in prosecuting criminals, which makes it challenging to do his job of prosecuting criminals.

Interesting article. Incredibly lax safety standards, per several people in the industry who I've heard discuss how their sets handle prop firearms.
Well, that's embarrassing. I've been part of several independent films made in New Mexico -- as the armourer -- and we've never had anything like that happen. Mostly because we weren't fucking morons about our gun handling. But given that the most expensive of those films had a total budget of $24,000 it's nuts that an actual Hollywood film couldn't do better.
Nepotism and gender pandering at its finest. The chick they hired as armorer is 24 and has a famous dad who was an armorer. Of course, he did wild west shows with Gene Autry, but I am sure her teen modeling prepared her adequately. She has issued a statement through her attorney that she has never had an 'accidental discharge'.
LOL, she's not the problem there. And that's not the end of her responsibility. Her responsibility, as the SME for these dangerous implements, is to ensure the rest of the people on the set don't have one.
What a joke. Oh well, nepotism runs everything else in Hollywood. Why not the technical services too?

Similar stuff happened a long long time ago to eliminate bimetallism (the gold/silver notion of money) in favor of gold-only standard. By 1896 (the election where WJ Bryan made that issue important in the Presidential election), Benjamin Andrews (then President of Brown) was the main American academic advocating bimetallism in both the US and international monetary conferences. Rockefeller's son was attending Brown then. And put 'donor' pressure on Brown to force Andrews to resign. Which happened in 1897. Which eliminated bimetallism from academic discussion - and later from history books. A G-20 summit in Rome over the weekend, which featured leaders of many of the same nations that will be represented in Glasgow, reportedly made almost no progress on how to cut greenhouse emissions
By having leaders not travel to G-20 summits, greenhouse emissions will be cut.
Seriously. Haven't they heard of Zoom?
Can't play golf at Gleneagles over a video conference line. Or have your WAGs go shopping for tweed, Scotch, and whatever else there is to buy there.
Heroine? I've seen it in train spotting. Kilts? Bag pipes? I suck the EU teet bumper stickers?
Get shitfaced on Buckfast and haggis?
That's different. World leaders need to travel to exotic locations around the globe to Raise Awareness of Climate Change because they're important.
How else will the plebs know that Important People are out there tackling Serious Issues if they don't make a big show of it.
And then there's the brown envelopes, caviar canapés and bottles of Cristal, gift bags from Gucci, Hermès and Louis Vuitton, golf at St. Andrews, call girls flown in from around the globe, and the photo ops with other Important and Powerful people. It's the global establishment's Christmas party.
Call girls and prolly a few rent boys.
I know everyone here is prejudiced against the New York Times, but article on policing for profit isn't terrible. They try their best to make about racism, but can't help but to admit that cops indiscriminately hand out traffic tickets not for safety but for revenue. If they can wake up their progressive readers to this there could be some positive changes. Like more states having ticket money go to the general fund instead of directly to the police departments, eliminating the incentive to harass motorists over violations that have nothing to do with keeping the streets safe.
The New York Times can no longer be trusted.
It belongs to what Mr. Buttplug calls "wingnut.com" — his term for any website that portrays the Biden Era as anything less than perfect. Specifically the NYT has been advancing the absurd rightwing myth that inflation is a legitimate issue.
Mr. Buttplug knows all you need to do to dismiss that idea is spam HAPERINFLATION!!!!!!!
#DefendBidenAtAllCosts
the reason that article is actually ok is becuase the narrative aligns with the NYT board's preferred narrative. That is the ONLY reason. they have no interest or dedication to dispassionate reporting, truth, or any of it. They are a spin machine for their preferred narrative and that is all.

Bari Wiess:
Journalism has become a profession of astonishing privilege over the past century, metamorphosing from a blue-collar trade into one of the occupations with the most highly educated workforces in the United States. And along with this status revolution has come the radicalization of the profession on questions of identity, leaving in the dust anything commensurate to a similar concern with economic inequality.
The recent obsession with identity has allowed these journalists to pretend—indeed to believe—they are still speaking truth to power, still fighting on behalf of the little guy, even after they have themselves ascended to the ranks of the powerful, even when they are speaking down to an audience who, in more cases than not, have less than them on every measurable scale. It has quite simply been a displacement exercise; instead of experiencing economic guilt about rising inequality and their status among America’s elite, members of the news media—along with other highly educated liberals—have come to believe that the only inequality that matters is racial inequality; the only guilt that matters is white guilt, the kind you can do absolutely nothing to fix, given that it’s based on something as immutable as your skin color.
In other words, despite a no doubt well-intentioned desire to ameliorate racial inequality, their enthusiasm for the language of wokeness has allowed affluent white liberals to perpetuate and even excuse a deeply unequal economic status quo.
If journalists once fought the powerful on behalf of the powerless, in 21st century America, they are the powerful. While the average pay for a journalism job is quite low at around $40,000 a year, that’s because entry-level jobs pay so little; at the higher levels, journalists now make quite a bit more than the average American. More importantly, journalists now have social and cultural power, and they are overwhelming the children of economic elites. After all, to even be able to make it on $30,000 a year while living in the most expensive cities in America (the only ones left with a functioning journalism industry, thanks to the rise of the Internet and the collapse of local newspapers), you have to come from a family with enormous economic privilege who can help you out. Once a blue-collar trade, journalism has become something akin to an impenetrable caste. And what journalists have done with that power, perhaps inadvertently, is to wage a cultural battle that enhances their own economic interests against a less-educated and struggling American working class.
Once working-class warriors, the little guys taking on America’s powerful elites, journalists today are an American elite, a caste that has abandoned its working class roots as part of its meritocratic climb. And a moral panic around race has allowed them to mask this abandonment under the guise of “social justice.”
But there’s another real reason that, however unconscious, is certainly also at play, and it’s this: Wokeness perpetuates the economic interests of affluent white liberals. I believe that many of them truly do wish to live in a more equitable society, but today’s liberal elites are also governed by a competing commitment: their belief in meritocracy, or the fiction that their status was earned by their intelligence and talents. Today’s meritocratic elites subscribe to the view that not only wealth but also political power should be the province of the highly educated. Still, liberals see themselves as compassionate and progressive. And perhaps unconsciously, they sought a way to reconcile the inequality that their meritocratic status produces with the compassionate emotions they feel toward the less fortunate. They needed a way to be perpetually on what they saw as the right side of history without having to disrupt what was right for them and their children.
A moral panic around race was the perfect solution: It took the guilt that they should have felt around their economic good fortune and political power— which they could have shared with the less fortunate had they cared to—and displaced it onto their whiteness, an immutable characteristic that they could do absolutely nothing to change.
This is how white liberals arrived at a situation where instead of agitating for a more equal society, they agitated for more diverse elites. Instead of asking why our elites have risen so far above the average American, they asked why the elites are so white. Instead of asking why working-class people of all races are so underrepresented in the halls of power, white liberals called the working class racist for voting for Trump. Instead of asking why New York City’s public school system is more segregated than Alabama’s, white liberals demanded diversity, equity, and inclusion training in their children’s exorbitantly priced prep schools.
In other words, wokeness provided the perfect ideology for affluent, liberal whites who didn’t truly want systemic change if it meant their children would have to sacrifice their own status, but who still wanted to feel like the heroes of a story about social justice, who still wanted to feel vastly superior to their conservative and even slightly less radical friends. They took a no doubt genuine abhorrence for the truly heinous ways black Americans have been treated historically—and, in some cases, continue to be treated—and instead of seeing in it a call to arms to create a genuinely equal society, they used it as an excuse to withdraw from the common good and the social contract, rebranding the problem of racism to fit the solution that would most benefit them. In the process, they demonized America itself, deplatforming the working class (of all races) while protecting their own status.
Today’s meritocratic elites subscribe to the view that not only wealth but also political power should be the province of the highly educated.
I suspect this is behind the push for free college and the left's attempts cram every single person through a degree program, to the point that college is now just an extension of high school with a slightly more complex reading list.
Their logic is that if getting a degree is a path to becoming elite, than if everyone gets a degree, everyone will be elite. It won't matter if the people going through the programs can barely read on a 3rd grade level, much less a traditional college one. Program them with the proper incantations and holy words ("Silence is violence," "social justice," "whiteness," "white privilege," "black lives matter," etc.), and you have an easily-manipulated vanguard that can push your ideology on a national scale.
I think it's more the extra couple of years of indoctrination and a few tens of thousands of dollars more going through the laundry machine.
Ha hahaha more complex reading list. You clearly haven't seen the current standards at universities. Collages have cource that 2 decades ago were soph/jr/Sr high school classes.
To be fair, I haven't taken a college course in 20 years, and that was for a master's program. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it's continued to deteriorate in that time.
A friend of mine switched from ee to ee (electrical engineering to elementary education).
He was in that major for 3 semesters until he switched back due to the stupidity of the profs and costudents. The last straw was when 1/3 of the class gouldnt get the concept that all squares are rectangs, but not all rectangles are squares. Instead of explaining the prof moved on
"A friend of mine switched from ee to ee (electrical engineering to elementary education)."
Holy shit, would that be an attitude adjustment. Jesus buddy, Fourier transforms aren't that bad...

Like I've said before, if your revolution has corporate sponsorship and billionaire funding, it's not a revolution.
If I have it blasted in my face in every walmart, target, and amazon commercial and have to sit through diversity, fatness, and gender sensitivity training to keep my job, then it is officially no longer part of the edgy counter culture and in fact, mainstream.

"Plus: New York City's vaccine mandate is accidentally shrinking the city's workforce"
That is a blatant lie, as left wing socialists knew that mandating covid vaccines for all NYC workers would shrink the city's workforce. Even morons know that fact.
Perhaps de Blasio is now trying to reduce wasteful government spending by NYC.
The main point is that those being "shrunk" tend to wrongly think that individuals should be allowed, instead of blind herd animals. Since that kind of person might vote republican, they have to go, and the Communist Chinese Virus is an ideal vehicle.
That is a blatant lie, as left wing socialists knew that mandating covid vaccines for all NYC workers would shrink the city's workforce. Even morons know that fact.
You give them too much credit. Their intention was to have the entire workforce vaccinated. I seriously doubt they counted on noncompliance from city workers. They're likely bewildered that the results don't match their intentions.
Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity.
Even morons knew that 10%-20% of employees would REFUSE to get the vaccine, which means that morons are smarter that de Blasio and other left wing Democrats.
And, apparently, sarc.
Goes without saying...
Yeah it's been consistently shown that somewhere around 15%-20% of people are just generally contrarians, even when there's an otherwise broad consensus about something.
That's why we scoff at the reported election results in places like Russia or North Korea or Fulton County.
Here in Colorado, the UC Health system has now fired 119 employees who refused to vaccinate. Some larger number of their 26,500 or so employees obviously quit or such before then. But according to UC Health, their available staffing has now improved a bit. Fewer employees testing positive, taking off work, and/or worst case using up rather than contributing to hospital resources, etc. That's what they say - idk
But the usual numbers confirm that could well be possible. 81% of those currently hospitalized for covid treatment are unvax. 28% of them are being admitted to ICU. Average hospital stay is 8 days (much higher than non-covid stuff). Age demographics of all covid patients in hospital is:
14.5% over 80
18% 70-79
20% 60-69
17% 50-59
12% 40-49
9% 30-39
9% under 30
Safe to assume the vast majority % of vaxxed hospitalized with covid (19% of the hospitalized) - the people called 'breakthrough' - are over 60 or 70.
“Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity.”
If you actually want to change the world for the better, not just complain, it’s important to keep this principle in mind. Effective ways to deal with malice are different from the ways to deal stupidity. Opposing stupidity as if it were evil breeds more evil.
Don’t worry, we don’t think you’re evil.
De Blasio and the NYPD/NYFD/trash collectors/city workers/etc. are playing a game of chicken right now, the only question is who will cave first.
I'm particularly curious as to how many vaccinated workers are taking paid time off in solidarity with those who aren't.
If this keeps up, the Boomers, elites, and left-liberal neoyuppies pushing this mandate crap are going to find out what happens when 10-20% of your workforce drops out, and all the "refugees" you imported over 35 years don't step up to fill the gaps so you can continue living in hedonistic, low-crime, just-in-time supplied bliss.
De Blasio and the NYPD/NYFD/trash collectors/city workers/etc. are playing a game of chicken right now, the only question is who will cave first.
De Blasio is out on Jan 1, so the nonconformists pretty much likely have enough runway to just wait him out. The next mayor is officially silent on the issue, but the general feeling is that his administration will be far less stringent about the mandate than Blas.
De Blasio and the NYPD/NYFD/trash collectors/city workers/etc. are playing a game of chicken
More like chicken pox.
The protests in Italy are known as pox romana.
"accidentally" LOL
Meh, Biden's vaccine mandate may soon be shrinking gov't contractor payrolls. Anecdotally in my "office" shows over 90% of "office" workers either have gotten or plan to get the stab but only about 50% of the manufacturing people are willing to get it. Office is in quotes because we office folk all largely work from home whereas virtually all of the mfg folk work on the factory floor.
I thought it highly ironic that it's the home bound folk who are least exposed to contact with other people that are fine with the stab but those who work and interact directly with dozens of other people appear to be less accepting. Again, it's only anecdotal but it will be very interesting as mandate deadlines approach.
The Media Prepare Their Readers for a Possible Kyle Rittenhouse Acquittal
https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/the-media-prepare-their-readers-for-a-possible-kyle-rittenhouse-acquittal/
In addition to the facts of the case and the law, the outcome could turn on whether a jury is willing to risk the possibility of more violence should Rittenhouse be acquitted. It only takes one juror.
The left wing media propagandists have insisted that Rittenhouse is guilty of murder ever since he was clearly defending himself from violent attacks by left wing thugs.
These same left wing media liars will defend and attempt to justify the violence and property destruction their left wing thug allies will create after Rittenhouse's acquittal.
The real question is whether the mayor and city council of Kenosha, and the county commissioners, are preparing for the possibility and planning an anti-riot response right now, or are sitting on their thumbs.
Because we know damn well that shitbird commie Tony Evers will happily sit back and watch the city burn as punishment. There's no point in even communicating with him on that score, because his staff members will simply work with their Antifa/BLM contacts to turn out in force in response, with a little help from some Soros-funded pallets of bricks dropped off in the middle of the street that are nowhere near a construction zone.
They could have stopped the initial riots in a microsecond, by releasing Blake's record of sexual abuse, and that the fucker had a knife. They chose not to.
So I'm guessing they'll be on Team Riot for this go-around too, despite the potential embarrassment to the Dems.
Not that the facts matter to those that want to burn the world, but it was all white on white violence. The first guy that took the room temp challenge was on video saying N***** roughly 50 times before chasing down rittenhouse and catching a bullet for his troubles. The ones who tried to pile on also all white. So they have no BLM angle to play other than rittenhouse was there to keep BLM from burning a neighborhood down.
Will be fun to watch antifa and BLM show up to support a white guy they will put on video in the trial saying N****** every other word then chasing a fully retreating rittenhouse into a corner before he took a bullet in his dome.
St. Kyle, innocent victim. Totally wasn’t fishing for a fight.
Doesn't mean that he didn't act in self defense.
He was trying to leave the confrontation and being chased...
How ignorant can you be White Mike?
How long you got?
If he was, a lot more of your lefty boos would have been ventilated, you repugnant sack of monkey shit.
White Mike's take that Rittenhouse was looking to shoot someone is a joke. In the videos seen so far, he only pulled the trigger when directly threatened. It is double stupid considering that Bernard Goetz went looking for a fight and they still couldn't get get a jury to convict.
I will point out that the bozos he popped did him a huge favor. He could have done significant jail time if all he had done was brandish a weapon. By failing to retreat, they made it self defense.
It is double stupid considering that Bernard Goetz went looking for a fight and they still couldn't get get a jury to convict.
To be fair, that was a different time, when NYC in the throes of a years-long urban decline that went back to the 60s and got worse in the 1970s. New Yorkers were sick and tired of being preyed upon at that point, and Goetz plugging those muggers was seen as a vicarious Death Wish situation.
Now do Saint Trayvon
The difference between you an I. Very telling.
I don't actually think he was saintly, just a stupid fuck maybe too big for his britches in a bad situation, but instinct and intuition took over and what happened, happened.
I think he was stupid to be there, but self defense couldnt be more clear.
Maybe he should get statues though? Apparently all you need to get those is a rap sheet as long as your arm, do a couple 8 balls, swallow some fentanyl, and of course, have a history of threating a pregnant lady by pointing a gun at her belly. Then have a white person kill you. Easy peezy
Oh wait, those are the people you support. Sorry, got confused.
Acquittal takes unanimity, I thought.
You can certainly hang a jury with one holdout though. But that only gets you so far. Rittenhouse is going to run out of money before Kenosha runs out of prosecutors.
Why? To give the Feds more power over our lives.
Why America is Experimenting With 'Postal Banking'
https://news.slashdot.org/story/21/10/30/1752206/why-america-is-experimenting-with-postal-banking#comments
Going to cash your check at the post office for $5.95, when WalMart will cash check twice as big for $4. And don't forget the crappy Post Office service!
America is going to phone banking, money cards charged directly from your direct deposit, and cash under the table. 'Postal Banking' is a used kleenex.
"The controversial 11-story dorm would pack 4,500 students into small, mostly windowless single-occupancy rooms."
This appears to be even more cruel and unusual punishment for college students, as even most jail cells have windows.
4,500 single occupancy dorm rooms? Filled with underclassmen? Nice, private single person rooms.
Yeah.... You put a few thousand 18-20 year old kids in private rooms for a couple of years, and it is game on.
I mean, it is anyway... But they won't even need a coat hanger or scrunchie on the doorknob system.... And no time limits imposed by roommates schedules....
This might be less unpopular than you think...
+1 scarf hanging off the door knob.
Isn't that a bonus? Then it would possible to Kavanaugh literally anyone that's been to a college dorm.
I certainly hope there is nothing flammable inside the building.
They likely spend most of their time dicking around on mobile devices and wouldn't notice the lack of a window.
Sounds like the "chicken coop" container housing units they have at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar for the junior enlisted doing deployments there. No windows on those shitboxes, either.
Considering the average temperature at 'The Deid' is something obscene like 105 with some ridiculous amount of humidity to boot, I wouldn't sweat the lack of windows. The opposite, really.
It's what's intended for us. And, like Overt's observation on the fragility of the Halloween tradition, in a few years you probably won't even miss such things as your own house or car.
Considering the average temperature at 'The Deid' is something obscene like 105 with some ridiculous amount of humidity to boot, I wouldn't sweat the lack of windows. The opposite, really.
The problem is that when these things were constructed, the Air Force picked really shitty contractors (to be fair, that's the norm there) who fucked up the wiring so bad that electrical fires were starting. They regularly flood out as well because you've got a bunch of guys on a high-protein diet taking shits at all hours.
The double-wide modular bunks were miserable in the summer without the AC running, and walking to the cadillacs was a pain in the ass, but at least I never had to worry about having the refuse of someone's chopped chicken leaking through my roof or under the door, or someone accidentally setting the building on fire due to an electrical short.
+1 electrocution in the shower...
The more I read of military history, the more the comparisons between military and prison life make sense.
Your point on the internal environment being awful, is one of the first things I thought of for MegaDorm. "The more you control the environment, the more fragile the system is." Something like MegaDorm is going to have to be really well engineered and built to avoid things like sick building syndrome, nevermind stuff like black mold, Legionnaire's, etc...
And you know it won't be.
And even black mold in those double-wides could be an issue, but that was easily resolved by running the AC units to keep the humidity down (they don't even need to be on full-blast all the time, just enough to keep the humidity down when you're not in the room), and just cleaning your damn room on a weekly basis. I'm sure if the Shirts did weekly inspections, those shitboxes would have stayed a lot cleaner and not get mold like they did on occasion. Even if mold did pop up in spite of those efforts, everyone knew about using the ol' bleach solution to take care of it.
Housing is one place where you don't want to skimp on quality, and it's an area that gets consistently short-shrifted in the military even though having a comfortable, healthy place to sleep is just as important to morale as good chow. It's definitely something that you don't want to contract out to the lowest bidder, and base on a reputation for quality of work instead.
Factory farms?
They are already forced to be a bio experiment with the vax
This sounds very Soviet housing block-inspired. And would serve well either to indoctrinate the youngsters into the progressive view of sustainable housing ("Nobody needs more than 200 sq ft of living space") or perhaps encourage some of them to revolt, even if for selfish reasons (the best kind).
So this is the prototype for peasant coops once Blackrock buys up all the privately owned housing?
That was my guess. Along with the recent emphasis on, "Bugs are good for you! Yum!"
I find it really interesting that the national media .... And the democrat party ... have declared the Virginia governor's race as a critical national moment, a bellweather for the national body politic...
And in some ways it is. In a firestorm of media reports that declare that up is down, the racism of the Republican challenger was exposed as some of his supporters posed by a tour bus, prepared to march as neo-klansmen in support of racism and Republicans. It was picked up far and wide by objective journalists who opined as to the horrifying nature of racist Republicans.
Only it was all a fabrication of the left. And a fairly obvious one that was exposed fairly quickly.
This, indeed, is a microcosm of national politics these days. Our national leaders pushing fake controversies while telling us that real issues that matter to the future of our nation are "phony culture wars".
"I find it really interesting that the national media .... And the democrat party ... have declared the Virginia governor's race as a critical national moment, a bellweather for the national body politic."
Which means the fuckers think they have this one in the bag. (Laughs in Dominion.)
This, indeed, is a microcosm of national politics these days. Our national leaders pushing fake controversies while telling us that real issues that matter to the future of our nation are "phony culture wars".
That's because these people use the "phony culture war" complaint, much like they employ the "divisive" pejorative, as a means to get their opponents to back off from the culture war front they've been waging. This is why the GOP base finally got so frustrated with the neocons running the party that they turned to a mostly liberal real estate huckster to lead the party--because he was the only one who bothered to acknowledge that a culture war was actually taking place.
I will repeat my comment from the earlier article about that race, but it would be awesome if, after Youngkin (miraculously) won and the Dems started shrieking about fraud, the GOP then immediately (with straight faces) called for a recount and audit.

JUST IN - Prince Charles is expected to say that "governments need to be on a war-like footing" and must unleash a "vast military-style campaign" to address "climate change" at #COP26
Now that the Globalist World Order has its social credit system being implemented, they're going to work to turn the screws on anyone who doesn't fall in line.
In reality, the most effective way to reduce global carbon emissions is by sharply reducing the number of humans on earth.
Unfortunately for the US and Europe, it appears this has been China's long term policy to reduce global warming (i.e. allow our economies to implode my banning fossil fuels, then send nuclear weapons on supersonic missiles to major cities in the US, Europe and any other nation that refuses to impose Maoist communism and Mandarin as their new language.
Nukes, nothing. A version of Nipah that only hits non-Han---or any other significant bioinformatic difference between China's leadership and the people of the West---will do the job much more effectively and cleanly. Tailor it to not infect a non-human reservoir, like smallpox, and away you go.
Nipah is supposedly, another bug that lab was looking at.
And that's even assuming they give a crap about their Han residents to try and engineer something like that. Remember, Mao blatantly admitted a long time ago that China's leaders are perfectly willing to sacrifice massive numbers of their own people if it meant China coming out on top in a conflict, because ordinary Chinese were looked on as replaceable units, or ants in a mound, not people.
It's also instructive to remember here that the response by Russia and China to the Obama administration implementing a policy of nuke reduction, was to actually become more aggressive in asserting their right to a first-strike policy with their own nukes.
Granted, a bit of Mao's bluster was just that. The human waves in Korea were, AIUI, composed of mostly hapless ex-Nationalists who had the misfortune to get captured. A la Soviet penal battalions. The UN was simply doing Mao's dirty work for him. I seriously doubt Mao wanted Round 2, which might've happened if we'd gotten off our ass and invaded North Vietnam. Eventually, even that demon would've run out of class enemies.
China's definitely taken the aggressive route with all of their wolf warrior smack. And they've definitely decided that arms limitations treaties are for other people. This latest FOBS reboot they tested, is only useful as a first-strike weapon.
I don't think though---and I certainly could be wrong---that the CCP leadership is as omnicidal towards their own people, as our elites are increasingly appearing to desire for our people.
EXACTLY! I've been saying it for years -- to save the planet we need to kill the children!
Great, Prince Fuckhead and wannabe tampon. You can start, by giving up Balmoral, Windsor, and the Britannia, you worthless piece of shit.

Section 23001 of the latest draft of the Build Back Better bill, released on Thursday, would create a large new federal child-care program. For each year that a couple has children under 5, being unmarried could easily save them over $10,000 annually in child-care costs compared with being married.

"Staffing"? No mention here, but SW waffled a couple of days before admitting to a revolt regarding their vax-requirement.
This morning's Wall Street Journal's article falsely claimed American Airlines' flight cancellations were due to the weather, just as the Wall Street Journal falsely claimed two weeks ago (in four consecutive articles) is what caused Southwest airlines to cancel 1,500+ flights.
Seems like many/most media propagandists will never acknowledge facts that refute their false narratives.
I just can't understand this. We are not the Soviet Union. And we supposedly have a long tradition of independent and free press and integrity in reporting the facts accurately.
It was pretty egregious when they used to report with a bias.... But this stuff?
I mean... Why? Why go to the mat on an obvious lie like this? What possible gain is there?
I just can't understand this. We are not the Soviet Union...
Let me explain: most urinalists wish we were the Soviet Union.
The Soviet Union, originally, wasn't the Soviet Union either. This sort of thing can happen when the pillars that make up your civilization, your culture, are relentlessly rotted out from within, and nobody wants to get off their ass and be the first guy to try and stop this shit.
Just like Boxer the Horse. And it's true, the first nail that sticks up, is going to get hammered down. Hard. But it still has to be done.
WSJ used to be semi-objective but in the past year they've turned almost as bad as NYT.
Agreed the media and dems dont want the truth of it out.
That being said, airlines have a long history of saying cancellations are "weather" related when they clearly arent. It absolves them from responsibility and lets them fuck over a plane full of folks, and you cant argue with it because what do you want them to fly in UNSAFE CONDITIONS?!?!
I was on a flight where we were sitting on the runway, and they legit told us their pilot was over his hours and they were scrambling for another pilot. When the back up pilot didn't show all of a sudden the flight cancelled "due to weather" despite a very clear forecast in our area and the entire southeast (where we were flying).
This trick is old. But its hard to sell it as "weather" when it happens a few thousand times in a row, briefly after they fucked themselves into a staffing crisis that everyone knows about
Keep in mind that American and Southwest were going to defy the ban on vax mandates in Texas. This probably wasn't smart considering they operate primarily out of DFW and Love Field, respectively, and even a relatively small percentage of their workforce calling out sick can wreak havoc on their entire system.
Meanwhile, Delta hasn't forced their employees to get the Magic Coof Juice, and got a shot rate of over 90% as a result.

"Bay Area locals react to Southwest pilot making anti-Biden statement over cabin intercom"
[...]
"After a confusing few weeks in which Southwest Airlines struggled to adequately explain significant flight disruptions, the airline is again facing questions about the political leanings of its pilots and flight crew.
The airline announced Sunday it is now investigating the most recent incident.
“Southwest does not condone Employees sharing their personal political opinions while on the job serving our Customers, and one Employee’s individual perspective should not be interpreted as the viewpoint of Southwest and its collective 54,000 Employees," the statement said.

The phrase, which was amplified through the cabin, is a well-established chant among supporters of former president Donald Trump: “Let’s Go Brandon!”

The NFL agrees, finally telling Kaepernick to piss off.
That includes some 3,700 fire department employees, 8,000 police, and 2,000 sanitation workers. Fewer cops and firefighters on the streets have some worried that a vaccine mandate intended to improve public health will instead diminish public safety.
This equates to roughly 30% of the employees in these departments. Seems like a recipe for disaster. Dollars to donuts Adams reverses this in two months when he gets sworn in.
This is a recipe for disaster at the start of winter, when poor people start using electric space heaters in their 100 year old apartment buildings. Not a good time to lose 30% of your workforce.
Also, pointing out that house fires have decreased in the past whatever years has no bearing on whether this loss is a good thing or a bad thing. Murders were going down too, but democrat policies reversed that trend too.

Why is every single billionaire turning out to be an insane lunatic lately?
an architect on the university's design review board quit in protest, saying that "the building is a social and psychological experiment with an unknown impact on the lives and personal development of the undergraduates the university serves."
Isn't that the whole point of a modern university? Gaslighting, brainwashing and just generally fucking around with today's youth?
It certainly isn't education.
• The American Medical Association has a new guide on how to talk about health disparities that heaps a surprising amount of blame on real estate developers for all the world's problems.
As one who has worked advocating sound public health policies for the past 40 years, I've found that every policy advocated by the AMA has financially benefitted MD's at the expense of public health.
If a person in the public wants the ama to care about them they will become a doctor
Bill Godshall made reference to a general point over the weekend that we should all keep in mind about the election in Virginia. If the Democrat loses in Virginia, the silent, moderate Democrats in the House and Senate are likely to run for the exits on the Biden administration's budget reconciliation bill--or anything else that might tie them to the Biden administration.
There are 99 Democrats in the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which means there are 222 - 99 = 123 Democrats who are not part of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The moderates are nowhere near as organized, but they're also not in safe, deep blue districts. The progressives are radical because they can be radical without risking their seats. The moderates go along with them out of fear.
If Biden's Green New Deal and social spending program go through, we should see a significant amount of resistance materialize as heating costs skyrocket this winter and inflationary pressures continues to accelerate (or interest rates increase). That resistance will come too late. If a Democrats loses in a blue state for being associated with Biden's ideas about the FBI and parents opposing their school boards, . . .
There were nine moderate Democrats who signed a letter telling Biden that they wanted to vote on the infrastructure bill first, and it was to them that Nancy Pelosi promised to hold a vote on the infrastructure bill and reneged (three times). If the Democrat loses in Virginia, those nine will be joined by dozens of other moderate Democrats, among the 123, who have remained silent up until now.
If the Republican wins in Virginia, the budget reconciliation bill probably dies.
I enjoyed your thoughts on music in the yesterday thread.

The good news is that Americans won't have to be tortured by Psaki's pathological lies (for the next week) about covid, Biden's dementia, and virtually everything else she talks about at press conferences.
Even word psalad Psaki didn't want to touch the poopy pants Biden story.
The primary purpose of the AMA is to restrict the supply of doctors and thereby drive up their salaries.
Yet they never ever listen when we explain that removing the artificial doctor cap is one of the first thing we'll have to do if we want 'universal coverage'.........
Not sure where the NY Post is getting their stats on NYV cops, etc not geting vaccinated and leaving service, but if it is what is promised, it's probably too high. When push comes to shove, very few have walked away from work instead of getting a vaccination. These guys have very good contracts to walk away from.
For example:
"Updated Oct. 20, 2021
New York State’s pioneering effort to force health care workers to receive coronavirus vaccines appears to have pressured thousands of holdouts to receive last-minute shots, though hospitals and nursing homes continue to brace for potential staffing shortages should the mandate fall short, according to state and industry officials.
As the vaccination mandate went into full effect on Monday, 92 percent of the state’s more than 650,000 hospital and nursing home workers had received at least one vaccine dose, state officials said. That was a significant increase from a week ago, when 82 percent of the state’s nursing home workers and at least 84 percent of hospital workers had received at least one dose.
The jump in vaccinations in the days before the deadline gave New York one of the highest rates of vaccination among health care workers nationally. .."

Well, an average hand-full of dirt is likely to be smarter than Joe.
And, as many others have pointed out (not the right wingers here), the vaccine refusers among police ranks quite likely intersect with the most problematic among the police ranks.

Climate change action is a winner with Americans:
"A majority of registered voters of both parties in the United States support initiatives to fight climate change, including many that are outlined in the climate plans announced by President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr., according to a new survey.
The survey, which was conducted after the presidential election, suggests that a majority of Americans in both parties want a government that deals forcefully with climate change instead of denying its urgency — or denying that it exists.
In the survey, published Friday by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, 53 percent of registered voters said that global warming should be a high or very high priority for the president and Congress, and 66 percent said that developing sources of clean energy should be a high or very high priority.
Eight in 10 supported achieving those ends by providing tax breaks to people who buy electric vehicles or solar panels, and by investing in renewable energy research..."
Okay 8 out of 10 people are retarded that's not news
As with the effectiveness and safety of covid vaccines, the overwhelming scientific evidence confirms the reality of reality of climate change. Only know nothings argue about it.
"Nearly all actively publishing climate scientists (97–98%[4]) support the consensus on anthropogenic climate change,[5][6] and the remaining 2% of contrarian studies either cannot be replicated or contain errors.[7] A 2019 study found scientific consensus to be at 100%,[2] and a 2021 study concluded that consensus exceeded 99%.[3]...
No scientific body of national or international standing maintains a formal opinion dissenting from any of these main points. The last national or international scientific body to drop dissent was the American Association of Petroleum Geologists,[32] which in 2007[33] updated its statement to its current non-committal position.[34] Some other organizations, primarily those focusing on geology, also hold non-committal positions..."
Among those scientific organizations joining in the consensus are all National Academies of Science in the world, The American Association for the Advancement of Science which is the world's largest scientific organization. This link lists all scientific organizations which agree with the consensus and is fully footnoted:

>>scientific organizations joining in the consensus
science requires no consensus.
Scientific facts need no consensus, but humans' imperfect knowledge of those facts which are not simple and obvious do in order to achieve actionable results.
science is, regardless of who if anyone agrees about it. the climate change gang are charlatans.

So stupid in fact they went from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change" without even an ounce of skepticism. Like brainless parrots..
Follow the scientism!
Since virtually everyone with brains acknowledges that climate change is occurring, left wingers continue to bring back their straw man argument of denialism.
All of the controversy over climate change has been about which policies can effectively reduce global carbon emissions.
While left wing environmental extremists (and the idiots who believe them) insist the US and Europe should end all carbon emissions within the next several decades (as China, India, Africa and other nations continue to significantly increase their emissions), anyone with a brain knows that will result in more carbon emissions (while destroying the US economy and making China the most powerful country in the world).
>>virtually everyone with brains acknowledges that climate change is occurring
loaded statement three times over.
Bill, your position assures failure and accepting unknown but possibly cataclysmic damage to our world civilization (destruction of much of the built environment, destruction or relocation of arable land including mass migration, and political upheaval including wars as a result). China and India recognize the threat to their own nations and like all of us need cajoling but also faith in the actions of other countries to bring about fair and equitable adjustments. Remember, the west created most of the already existing CO2 surplus causing the problem through the industrial revolution and since, and we still out pollute these 2 on a per capita basis. Give and take and constant negotiations will be the only way forward to a future world not thrown into the chaos on our horizon. You're thinking too small.
Fuck off and die, Joe. Slowly and painfully, asshole.
When I try to read through the bloviating, all I can get from Joe is that the West should lay down and die. We had our chance and blew it.
Of course, the Chinese are currently exterminating a population larger than that of the entirety of pre-Columbian North America. But I am sure they will be kind and gentle with us.
Joe is but one of the lefty piles of shit who show up here, expecting to convince all of us through claims and arguments they seem to think we've never heard before!
Same old socialist crap, proven to be hazardous to the health and welfare of humankind every time it's been tried...
And the lot of them are SHOCKED at being told to fuck off and die.
This board is mostly pathetic and embarrassment to Libertarians.
You don’t post THAT often.
Why aren’t you carbon neutral? Or Obama? Or Al Gore? Or Biden?
Chumby, if my being carbon nuetral would solve the problem, or even a significant part of it, I would be. It won't and is therefore irrelevant.
So you need to force someone else to do something you want. Way to be the change you want to see.
So people being carbon neutral won’t solve the problem?
66 percent said that developing sources of clean energy should be a high or very high priority.
Like solar panel production that we outsource to China so we don't have to worry about the environmental pollution associated with their manufacture.
Hey now, our strength is in our non-white DNA!
Climate change policies are always popular right until the point that somebody actually tries to implement them; ones that might have any material effect, anyway.
Eight in 10 supported achieving those ends by providing tax breaks to people who buy electric vehicles or solar panels, and by investing in renewable energy research..."
Case in point. "Renewable energy research" if it's to have any benefit will take decades to take effect and subsidies for EVs are pure window dressing.
Summed up:
Make any climate-policy assumption you want: It is mathematically certain now that adaptation, not emissions control, will constitute the lion’s share of the human response.
I don't necessarily agree that emissions control is out of our control. But I totally agree that in any reasonable timeframe, adaptation - and adaptation to an almost certain 3 degree C rise NOT a 1.5 C rise - is what we need to expect. And there we have a huge problem because no one is paying much attention to what that level of adaptation really means. Rather the entirety of public expectation is geared to either a)panic that we won't achieve 1.5C and b)denial of everything until long after it happens.
Emission control - and everything else related to pricing land/resources over time - will only happen AFTER we get smacked in the face by economic reality.
What I find sad is that that framing of possible outcomes (between 1.5C and denial that even 1.5C will happen) is also limiting what we even can best-guess as to what will happen at 3C. There is very little science or even computer modeling occurring using that as the assumed change. eg here at Carbon Brief - lots of holes in even trying to project above 2C.
So…… prepare for worst case no matter how unlikely and at any cost?
Henceforth to be known as the jfree policy.
No - deny everything that is possible or likely until after it hits the fan.
1.5C - the number that those who panic panic about because that number does require massive carbon reductions starting now. That will not happen. Period.
So deal with what is more likely to happen. Or not I really don't care. Whatever happens will happen.
Climate change policies are always popular right until the point that somebody actually tries to implement them; ones that might have any material effect, anyway.
Sort of like "affordable housing"--the bourgeoisie left loves high-density housing, just not anywhere near their own neighborhoods lest the property values drop and people start thumping their car speakers at 2 am.
"A majority of registered voters of both parties in the United States support initiatives to fight climate change, including many that are outlined in the climate plans announced by President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr., according to a new survey..."

Weather my ass. You're supposed to be a journalist not a mindless repeater of press releases.
The weather is so good, no one wants to fly anywhere else. So, "weather". Fact.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen assures the public that everything is just fine with the country's post-pandemic economic recovery.
you can safely assume the opposite is true from whatever this moron has to say.
Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.
I think we're on the cusp of reaching criticsl mass, and the 'jig is up'. Most Americans know 'Climate change' is a rabbit hole, into which billions of dollars are poured into; to feed a market of rent seekers, Shamans. and crones. .
Billions for welfare, not a penny for climate control
World leaders will let Biden spend the money, profit from that money, and laugh at Biden. What they won't do is help him.
And never-mind EVERY SINGLE ONE of those B.S. climate predictions of the 1980+90+2000's has FAILED to materialize.
For F-Sakes; In the late 70s it was a future Ice Age (Global Cooling) scare the imbeciles were chasing.
