The Darebin, Australia, City Council has banned people who identify as men from applying for an opening for a street sweeper. The bottom of the job ad says the city is an "Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in its selection and employment practices."

There is an imbalance in the number of men and women people who identify as male and people who identify as female among street sweepers automotive transportation network maintenance engineering staff? And if you cannot hire enough of the right people to even out the imbalance, will you offer higher pay or better working conditions to the "correct" people? And should that prove inadequate to the task, will you then be making employment mandatory to achieve the correct balance? I've heard there is a similar imbalance in most other occupations as well - will you be mandating employment in those occupations as well?

    1. m4019597   4 years ago

It’s not a diversity push. It’s trying to weed out men from a women’s pool, and failing because it’s allowing anyone to apply, as long as they’re calling themselves non-men.

      1. Tifnie   4 years ago

There's a heavy push to get more women into high-paying jobs where there are mostly men now (CEO, electrical engineer, pilots come to mind). There is NEVER a push to get more women into brick-laying or garbage collection! End result might be, women get the high-paying jobs, and men are left collecting garbage! Oh, and, of course, men prisoners vastly outnumber female prisoners... We should equalize that as well!

      1. Ben of Houston   4 years ago

I have to agree. In all of my sewage licensing exams, I saw maybe a dozen women among hundreds of men. At least Darebin is being consistent in their sexism

        1. Utkonos   4 years ago

          That’s for shit, man!

        2. SQRLSY One   4 years ago

So Ben of Houston, I see you must be heavily into the sewage business.

I read once where Dave Barry was once greatly honored in getting a sewage treatment center named after himself! Really!

          https://www.miamiherald.com/living/liv-columns-blogs/dave-barry/article1932455.html
N.D.'S new Barry building takes your breath away

Is there any chance that you could do that for me? I would be GREATLY honored to have a sewage plant named the "SQRLSY One Sewage Treatment Center"!

I'd be too chickenshit to show up in person, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, truth be told. I'm afraid that "Nardz" here on these pages, would find out my real ID, and he'd come by here at night, and fire-bomb my house, or something. Maybe I could send an effigy-robot (remote controlled) to represent myself at the ribbon-cutting thingee, while still maintaining my anonymity?

I was thinking, it would also by nice for me to take a ceremonial dump to "christen" the sewage treatment center. I'm not sure how to do that robotically; do you have any ideas?

          1. SQRLSY One   4 years ago

PS, I just re-read https://www.miamiherald.com/living/liv-columns-blogs/dave-barry/article1932455.html (same link as above)... The original Dave Barry humor column about this. It really is a hoot; y'all should read it!

    3. Agammamon   4 years ago

Its and ad for a streetsweeping job. Nothing to do with pools.

      1. m4019597   4 years ago

Read the fucking linked article, sir.

      2. m4019597   4 years ago

        Never mind. You’re right.

  3. m4019597   4 years ago

This was done to accommodate a group of Muslim women who want to swim without men watching. Fair enough.

But this stupid ad lets any guy call himself a woman to get the job.

Again it’s the pervert queer/trans agenda pushing itself onto the public.

Let the burqa ladies just swim in peace. Geez.

    1. Davy C   4 years ago

I think you're misunderstanding. The *exception in the law* gives the swimming pool example. Nothing in the article indicates that there's any legitimate reason to invoke this exception here.

      1. m4019597   4 years ago

You’re right. I did take the example as the reason for the exception.

But my point stands. They’ll allow anyone who claims to be anything other than a man to have the job. It’s pushing the trans queer agenda.

    2. Rossami   4 years ago

Davy is correct. While there may be some examples where gendered hiring is appropriate, this street-sweeper position isn't one of them.

  4. Dwight V. Schrader   4 years ago

Why would they do this? Everyone knows chicks can’t drive,

    1. Chumby   4 years ago

But they are skilled at the cleaning part. I think the poor driving can be swept under the rug.

      1. SQRLSY One   4 years ago

Put some eye shadow or pink blush in those giant street sweepers, and the chicks will FLOCK to these jobs!

The piles of socks and 'clean' shirts must be getting too big.

    1. SQRLSY One   4 years ago

Dave Barry taught me how to easily, quickly clean those piles of my dirty laundry... Just spray some Right Guard on them!

      1. Brandybuck   4 years ago

Put them between the mattresses from some easy overnight pressing!

    2. JFree   4 years ago

This is all part of the push to get men to help with the housework. If we don't get around to sweeping the floor, we don't get paid to sweep the streets either.

  7. Chumby   4 years ago

Street sweepers are essential and are exempt from the Oz lockdowns?

    1. n00bdragon   4 years ago

They are the king's men. Of course they are exempt from the rules. It might surprise you but Australia is not as locked down as it might appear. People still go to work and do all the things they normally did... just so long as they have a permit and/or are sufficiently connected. It's a complete command economy.

  8. TJJ2000   4 years ago

    Sexists ban men from jobs??
    Yep; That's sounds dead-on....
The [WE] mob does it and blames everyone else for it.

    1. Chumby   4 years ago

This nee requirement is part of sweeping changes.

  9. Brandybuck   4 years ago

I seem to recall a Linux Chix chapter (a women in STEM advocacy group centered around Linux) having to close down because there were more trans-females than cis-females.

If true, that's some funny shit.

  11. Mickey Rat   4 years ago

In progressive equity doublespeak this is not a contradiction. Men are overrepresented in this job category, therefore excluding men is not discriminatory. The additional caveat that they are not excluding males who identify as other than men is the cherry on top of this insane troll logic sundae.

  13. Agammamon   4 years ago

Every employment ad in the US will have both an 'equal opportunity' and 'Affimative Action' support logo.

What is 'doublethink' for 1000, Alex.

    1. Iridium   4 years ago

My understanding is that when you see both, it is supposed to mean that employers will still evaluate every application equally. Hence, equal opportunity. However, they are also taking affirmative action to encourage more underrepresented applications. For example, everyone who applies to street sweep has an equal shot, but the city also passed out fliers for the job at the library book club.

Whether those employers actually live up to that is a different question.

Your girlfriend's birthday is coming up, but you are one of those who are wondering. Where can I get beautiful birthday messages for my girlfriend in 2021? It has happened to all of us at some point, and I have to tell you that you are in the right place.
Thinking about it, we have made a compilation of some nice birthday phrases for your girlfriend that you can find on the net.
