Brickbat: Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?

China's Ministry of Culture is preparing a list of songs that will be banned in karaoke bars. In a statement on its website, the agency said karaoke bars must remove any songs that: "endanger national unity, sovereignty or territorial integrity, or harm national security, honor or interests" or that "incite ethnic hatred." The statement said only "healthy" songs that "promote positive energy" should be performed.

Considering that they have allowed the CCP to subjugate them, the Chinese have no souls yearning to sing.
In China, they want to punish the karaoke bars, for what the singers chose to sing there!
In the USA, they want to punish Facebook, for what the Facebook users chose to write in Facebook!
(But of course, China bad, and Section 230 bad, but my tribe ALWAYS good! That goes w/o saying.)
the property owners (the web site owners) should decide!

Section 230 was a good start, but it just isn't nuanced enough to let voices from the Right through while blocking voices from the Left. We can do better.
p.s. That was sarcasm. Duh. But seriously, 230 is not about Free Speech it's about Freedom of the Press. It means hosts cannot be held liable for what third parties post on their sites. Back when it was created that mean bulletin boards and forums. Today it means social media. Doesn't mean the social media can't moderate if it wants to (or chooses not to, like Reason), but means Jack Dorsey is not liable for what I tweet.
Yup-yup-yo & a bottle of rum!
Also I suspect lawyers, lawyer-suckers, and bottom-suckers dislike Section 230, 'cause it prevents lawyers from ignoring the broke penniless blokes who actually make the comments, and pushing on through to the "deeper pockets" on the other side...

Well, one difference being that China is openly a communist dictatorship.
We at least pretend that we aren't, and could theoretically turn things around.
Hey Man I'm all about free speech an all but I'm kind of with China on this one. The songs must promote "Postive Energy" in toher words dont be a buzzkill. No one wants to listen to your shitty rendition of Whiskey Lullaby while out with their friends. Dont be a bummer.
on a sperate note, the CCP banning songs that "Incite Ethnic Hatred" is just a Cornucopia of irony and richer that Jeff Bezos
https://morioh.com/p/98eac8363f6f
"Uighurs Are Totally Not Slaves Undergoing Genocide", and "I Know Big Brother Xi Loves Me" new hits at Chinese Karaoke bars.
It's Japanese cultural appropriation anyway.
Only songs that promote positive energy are allowed? So basically, they’ve banned every blues song ever written along with 85% of country songs.
My wife left me,
My mule got lame,
Lost my money in a poker game!
So Much Trouble
Song by George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Lyrics
My baby left me and my mule got lame
Lost my money in a poker game
A windstorm came just the other day
Blew the house that I lived in away
I'm havin' so much trouble, so much trouble
So much trouble, I'm about to lose my mind
Started sellin' whiskey, wine, and gin
They caught me last week and last night again
Now, the sheriff he comes, in sight
Walked into my house and caught me shootin' dice
I'm havin' so much trouble, so much trouble
So much trouble, I'm about to lose my mind
Carried me away, my pajamas on
I even hate that I was born
Let me out and I'll go cross town
Couldn't find my baby, she'd put me down
I'm havin' so much trouble, so much trouble
So much trouble, I'm about to lose my mind
Went to the races, placed my bet
My hard luck my horse isn't in yet
I go across town after I blows my dough
Even landlady changed the lock on the door
I'm havin' so much trouble, so much trouble
So much trouble, I'm about to lose my mind
Pawned my watch, pawned my chain
I'd a pawned myself, but I was ashamed
Got a job on the city pay
Late one mornin', laid me off that day
So much trouble, so much trouble
So much trouble, I'm about to lose my mind, yeah
My baby left me and my mule got lame
Lost my money in a poker game
A windstorm came just the other day
Blew the house that I lived in, away
I'm havin' so much trouble, so much trouble
So much trouble, I'm about to lose my mind
Trouble, trouble, trouble
So Much Trouble

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Better_Run
"Hole In The Wall" by Brownie and Sonny was an apt description of the urban housing crisis that is still relevant today.
They also had a great libertarian escape lyric:
"You don't like my peaches, don't shake my tree!
Get outta my orchard 'n' leave my peaches be!
Goin' 'cross the river, yes I am!
Goin' 'cross the river, yes I am!
If the boat don't sink and the train don't turn around! WOOO!"
anyone else notice the first John Wick movie was essentially a country song. His wife died they killed his dog and took his car, if that aint country then there is no country
But where was the railroad train?
Positive energy = anything by Village People.
According to Country/Fooolo/Metal Fusion Band Hayseek Dixie, Country Music must have onexof four elements:
A.) Drinking,
B.) Cheating,
C.) Killing,
and
D.) Going to Hell.
And if it has all four in the same song, it's a Jackpot
They didn't mention Mama, prison, trucks, dogs, or damned ol' trains, but I guess those could be bonus points for style.
Sorry, the band is Hayseed Dixie. Somebody ought to make a Blues or Country song lamenting Reason's lack of an Edit button.
And it is a Country/Folk/Metal fusion band. "Fooolo" is not a genre of music, just clumsy fingers.
Especially Albert Collins with his libertarian blues classics:
"I don't care
what the people are thinkin'!
I ain't drunk,
I'm just drinkin'!"
And his cry for fiscal responsibility and against Feminist financiership: "Master Charge and Bank AmeriCard!"
Let me guess someone song the Winnie the Pooh theme and that got the poor little Emperor all upset.
Possible.
No honey for you!
We should do that here and ban all those terrible drug songs like Smoke gets in your eyes, The green green grass of home, Tea for two, and all the others.
+1 Brewer and Shipley
When they ban the message of interpretive dance, it is really going to go to hell.
Dancing with knives and stabbing still OK.
Oh, never that in Red China! They wouldn't trust their citizens with knives any more than with guns...At least if Red China is as bad as the U.K.
Oh, and no Carl Weathers "Kung Fu Fighting" either.
I can't believe you people are so cynical that you would prefer sad and negative songs of loss and heartache and cheating lovers rather than positive, uplifting songs of lovers who would never give you up, never let you down, never run around and desert you.
Hear, hear! Here, here, HERE is an uplifting song about Eternal Love!
Scienfoology Song… GAWD = Government Almighty’s Wrath Delivers
Government loves me, This I know,
For the Government tells me so,
Little ones to GAWD belong,
We are weak, but GAWD is strong!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
My Nannies tell me so!
GAWD does love me, yes indeed,
Keeps me safe, and gives me feed,
Shelters me from bad drugs and weed,
And gives me all that I might need!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
My Nannies tell me so!
DEA, CIA, KGB,
Our protectors, they will be,
FBI, TSA, and FDA,
With us, astride us, in every way!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
Yes, Guv-Mint loves me!
My Nannies tell me so!
DEA, CIA,
KGBFSB,The KGB was disestablished in 1991.
The Cheka was replaced by the GPU, OGPU, NKVD, and KGB, but the Russians still called them Chekists. No matter how many times that agency is renamed, they'll still be Chekists. (And they still celebrate the founding of the Cheka every December.)
Correct. And people still refer to the FSB (the current incarnation of this cancer) as the KGB (something about both waddling and quacking like a duck…)
So you're saying Red China is getting Rick-rolled over with tanks?
or that "incite ethnic hatred."
No more "Play That Funky Music White Boy"

From the CCP's lips to the Democratic party's ears.
banning all references to Mulan seems appropriate response
The media has already banned any references to Wuhan.
As Busta Rhymes would say:
"WOOHAN's got you all in check!
It's got that COVID-19 that make you grab your neck!
WOOHAN's got you all in check!
It's got that funky bat soup that make you choke from dreck!"
"I hear great confusions!"
Guess “Tank Man” will no longer be available.
Or Bjork's "Army of Me," the theme from the movie Tank Girl.
“I want you to play with my Ding-a-Ling”
Now the Obama kids, and their parents, have a place to sing karaoke.
