Haitian Assassination Suspect Had Been DEA Informant

Haitian assassination suspect was a U.S. government informant. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) admitted in a statement yesterday that "at times, one of the suspects in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise was a confidential source to the DEA."
Moise was murdered last Wednesday. Since then, a number of people—including Joseph Gertand Vincent, the DEA informant—have been arrested as suspects.
"Following the assassination of President Moise, the suspect reached out to his contacts at the DEA. A DEA official assigned to Haiti urged the suspect to surrender to local authorities and, along with a US State Department official, provided information to the Haitian government that assisted in the surrender and arrest of the suspect and one other individual," said the DEA in a statement.
According to Haitian officials, Moise's assassination was led by 63-year-old Christian Emmanuel Sanon, who had hired a Florida company called CTU Security to protect Sanon on his trip to Haiti. Sanon, who arrived in June, "came with the intention to take over as president of the republic," said Police Chief Leon Charles at a press conference.
Haitian law enforcement officials have arrested at least 20 suspects so far and said at least 28 suspects were involved.
"Haitian authorities have provided limited details on the investigation, but the growing number of Florida connections to the plot appears to portray an operation at least partly hatched in the United States," notes CNN. "Three American citizens have now been arrested in Haiti for their alleged involvement, according to State Department spokesperson Ned Price."
According to the Miami Herald: "Vincent, 55, was identified by Haitian authorities over the weekend as an arrested suspect along with another South Florida Haitian emigre named James Solages, 35, who until April was a maintenance director in a Lantana senior-living center. Both men told investigators they were hired as translators." The Herald adds:
The DEA announcement is even more stunning because of reports in Haiti that the attackers who killed the president shouted through a loudspeaker that a DEA raid was taking place. The DEA steadfastly denies any knowledge of or involvement in the monumental events that unfolded in impoverished Haiti.
"DEA is aware of reports that President Moïse's assassins yelled 'DEA' at the time of their attack. These individuals were not acting on behalf of DEA," said the source.
The DEA isn't the only U.S. government agency with potential ties to the Haitian assassination team, however.
"Other suspects also had US ties, including working as informants for the FBI," reports CNN. But "it's not clear that the men who worked as US law enforcement informants wittingly participated in the assassination plot or were aware of the mission, the people briefed on the matter said."

Inside the conservative publishing industry. Slate talks to Eric Nelson of HarperCollins' conservative imprint, Broadside Books, about the past, present, and future of right-of-center publishing.
Do the books you edit appeal to you politically, or is that not that relevant to you as an editor?
The older I get, the more concerned I am about the health of our democracy. And so I do feel like every day that I go to work and I help a smart person make a more coherent and truthful argument, the better it is for our country.
OK, but there are plenty of people who could say that and then would add, "Oh, but I wouldn't want to work for a conservative imprint because it's against my own values."
I'm a libertarian, so it's usually obvious to me what's awful about both parties.…
Let's talk about the pressure campaigns to cancel the contracts of everyone from Josh Hawley to Kellyanne Conway to Mike Pence. This is not something that would have happened 10 years ago, is that correct?
Yeah.
How would you characterize what is happening with the rise of these campaigns?
The overall culture has changed to be pro-censorship, with the belief that by limiting our ability to discuss some ideas, it will make those ideas disappear or lose value among the public—which is delusional, and that has been proven over and over.
Also, there are more truly awful people that have carved out a big audience for themselves than before. These people are famous enough now to have a platform, and so their books look worth doing, financially, but 10 years ago these people would have been taking out ads in the back of the Weekly World News to get people to order their pamphlets on various snake oils.

Tens of thousands of marijuana cases in New Jersey are vacated or dismissed, in the wake of the state recently legalizing recreational marijuana. "The state Judiciary has dealt with 88,000 cases so far, it announced Monday evening. These are the first wave of an estimated 360,000 identified that qualify for expungement," reports NJ.com.
This doesn't mean records have been cleared, however:
Cases that have been vacated or dismissed still need to be expunged. That's the step that ultimately clears a person's record. That phase will come in the next few months, according to the judiciary.
A state Supreme Court order issued earlier this month laid out a process for vacating, expunging and dismissing certain marijuana offenses from people's records. These include selling less than one ounce of marijuana and possession, as well as related crimes like possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence, failing to turn over marijuana or being (sic) or possessing marijuana while in vehicle.

I'm sure that's how that went down.
DEA is aware of reports that President Moïse's assassins yelled 'DEA' at the time of their attack. These individuals were not acting on behalf of DEA...
Haiti can rest comfortably in that knowledge, just like the family members of so many home intrusions here in the states whose victims were forced into acquiescence by a police state that demands immediately compliance whenever its name is invoked. END OF RANT
Does that mean they attacked the wrong house?
My rant is about people unable to defend their homes when those pretending to be law enforcement (let alone actual law enforcement at the right or wrong house) break inside, simply because taking a split second to evaluate the actual threat means death from either flavor of invader.
No knocking no knocking!
Does this now give citizens qualified immunity if they shoot a DEA agent? The "I thought it was Haitian rebels" defense.

Indeed, I learned in college TOXIC MASCULINITY is a tremendous problem.
I wish more men could be sensitive and feminist like Reason contributor Scott Shackford. He does his best work when he's explaining to ciswomen that they're hateful bigots if they don't want to see penises and testicles in the ladies' locker room.

The trans-friendly locker room is probably the only place Heidi will see a penis
You never know, Heidi may see a penis looking in a mirror.
Exactly. What could be more feminist than a man explaining to women what they are allowed to refuse?

Nah, just shift to proper re-education of those convicted of hate crimes.
It is incredible that Officer Hiser could smell the scent of two resealable sandwich sized plastic baggies of unburnt marijuana coming from a moving vehicle when patrolling in his cruiser.
Training.
When the cops take the "I smelled weed" PC justification just a tad too far. Everyone on earth knows the asshole is lying, but nothing happens to the cop.
Who needs a DEA dog?
It's well known that MJ scent travels much further when the driver of the car is black.
TBF: If there is MJ in the car, there is also a high likelihood that the MJ was being smoked at or near the car sometime recently. I came home from vegas once with a couple guys, and while they had no weed on them, they had spent the weekend so baked that the entire van, my luggage, and the other passengers all stank of it by the time we got to CA- luckily the Ag inspection point was closed at the time, or they easily could have flagged us.
Not that this is any justification for unreasonable searches. Indeed the fact that a car can stink of weed when none is there should be an even bigger strike against this type of probably cause.
A lot of chronics and cigarette smokers have no idea of how strong the smell of those burned herbs are to non-smokers.
That's no way to talk about Michael Jordan.
Seems to me, Officer Hiser is just following his leaders in making up lies to allow and justify his abuse of power. The fish rots from the head. This is worse than the lies of the Haitian coup members ("DEA Raid"), or the guy who put the raid together, apparently deceiving the "body guards" he hired. It's far worse because Officer Hiser, and political leaders who do the same, are in government and use their lies to defraud the public for their personal gain.
When will Fauci answer for his crimes against humanity?
About the same time as Bush and Obama do?
I don’t remember them killing 4 million people.
But Bush and Obama (and Trump) made 4 billion people sad. And feeling sad is equivalent to death, right?
It’s worse.
The higher the number the less likely it will be. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him imprisoned, just don't think he'll face justice.
You haven't been using the Social cost of Carbon to estimate deaths I see.
So he get's half a Nobel Peace Prize?
I enjoy this post every day.
You mean now that Biden has given him a promotion? As far as Biden is concerned, Fauci has committed no crime, and since Fauci contradicted Trump, Biden will ensure Fauci isn't indicted and probably won't force him to answer questions about his support of the Wuhan lab and CCP. That's the Clinton/Obama/Biden approach.

Over 12 million J&J vaccines administered and about 100 cases Guillain-Barré cases, about 3-5 times higher than the general population. The vaccines have been administered to a generally older part of the population, so the figure is more like almost double what could be expected for an older group.
So, you might have almost double the risk of an already vanishingly small risk of a rare condition. Do the math.
Find something real to worry about.
Over 12 million J&J vaccines administered and about 100 cases Guillain-Barré cases,
so far.
We are only 6 months into this grand experiment. If Trump was president you wouldn’t be so dismissive.
Not to mention the kids that have died suddenly in their sleep after receiving the jab, or the kids that have been seriously injured like Maddie De Garay, which receives almost no media coverage. That is more of a shame since they are kids, and because they have almost no chance of getting sick (link to a study showing a mortality rate for children of 2 / million.
https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-689684/v1
There is a heart condition in the child vaccination group that took a heart condition estimated to occur at 1 in 100,000 kids to 1 in 4,000 kids.
So, you might have almost double the risk of an already vanishingly small risk of a rare condition. Do the math.
Vs vanishingly small risk of any long-term effects (including death) of COVID for young, healthy people. Knowing these risks, as a healthy, relatively-young person, I'd choose COVID risks over GB risks and wouldn't get any vaccine until the risks are fully known.
+ 1
And you're right, the risks aren't fully known.
Why? The COVID-19 risks are higher than the Guillain-Barré. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are readily available, free-of-charge to any adult American. And they have know super low risk. What’s the down side of getting vaccinated?
Do you know what an mRNA vaccine is and how it works?
Though they're called vaccines their mechanisms are radically different than traditional protein vaccines. This is brand new technology starting with the Covid vaccines that never went through any sort of rigorous testing processes.
Which is why Malone cautioned about giving them to young people--these things haven't been nearly tested enough to know their overall effects yet.
Covid isn't significantly dangerous to those under the age of 55 with a risk profile of driving to work daily.
Keep in mind, Pfizer just started doing tests on kids under 12 in March. Even with MUH INJUN VAREEUNT, their actual case numbers and fatality rates remain astonishingly low, and most of the victims continue to be old fatties. This says that getting other types of common colds--which happens a lot in kids--does in fact confer some immunity to COVID.
The Food and Drug Administration is linking the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine to the rare condition called Guillain–Barré syndrome.
Rare is in the eye of the palsied beholder.
Rare is in the eye of the round. Wait. This isn’t the cow story.

Actual lawyer cites actual case law, similar to Prof Volokh, on why Trumps lawsuit vd big tech actually has merit.
Even if Messrs. Zuckerberg and Dorsey didn’t fear these government threats, the Second Circuit held in Hammerhead Enterprises v. Brezenoff (1983) that if government officials’ comments “can be reasonably interpreted as intimating that some form of punishment or adverse regulatory action will follow the failure to accede to the official’s request,” that’s enough to constitute state action. The Ninth Circuit has held that it doesn’t matter if the threats were the “real motivating force” behind the private party’s conduct.
A growing body of evidence suggests that social media companies have voluntarily worked with Democratic officials to censor content the latter disfavor. In Brentwood Academy v. Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (2001), the high court held that state action exists if the private party’s conduct results from “significant encouragement, either overt or covert,” or if the private party is a “willful participant in joint activity with the State or its agents.”
According to allegations in other pending lawsuits, Twitter formed “trusted partner” relationships with state officials to remove content identified by the officials as election misinformation—when in reality the content was simply critical of state policies.

And as a reminder, the same calls of project Veritas being laughed out of court also spread across media. This included claims of defamation and censorship. They've won most of their initial court victories including the initial one to move to federal court by Twitter last week.
I like how in their lawsuit against the New York Times, the Times was forced to admit that everything they print is just opinion and no reasonable person could confuse their paper as "fact", even though the article in question was used to "fact check" other sources.
the Times was forced to admit that everything they print is just opinion and no reasonable person could confuse their paper as “fact”
Wait. What?
The NYT tried to have this case thrown out, and the Judge allowed it, recognizing that the Times was full of shit. The Times pivoting to claim an article in its "news section" (not opinion section) was 'opinion' was laughed out of court.
Yeah, it's funny that the NYT (let's not forget to add in Rachel Maddow of MSNBC) claims to be informing readers with facts, until they get into court defending themselves against libel then they argue that no, it's not a fact, readers should know that, and instead it's their opinion.
Any honest journalist would call for people to boycott them, and if working for them, would resign. I can imagine the liberal journalists who reach the top with a job at the NYT, having to decide whether to keep their job and pay, or tell the truth, once they open their eyes and see the truth of their propaganda. Obviously, they haven't developed sufficient character and morality in their lives. But that's expected, as I doubt they'd hire anyone who hasn't shown their lack of character in their work.
I mean, isn't hauling these folks in front of Congress again and again and again and again all the evidence you need?
Reason doesn't seem to think so. They seem to think these decisions are made in isolation from the good will of "muh private business" who are incapable of colluding with politicians.
So why aren't Republicans seeking to repeal the levers of government that are used to engage in this collusion or make it a felony for government agents to threaten or collude with social media companies over content moderation giving the 1st Amendment some teeth? Those are 2 things I can get behind. So far the solutions I've seen presented, increase the governments role, not decrease.
They've tried at various points in my lifetime (longer than I care to admit) and the instant they even brought it up as a possible legislative item, they were excoriated by both the press and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) of literally killing children.
The timing was off, maybe. Due in large part because of the Internet in whole and social media, the image of civil servants working for the people has been damaged and the media's ability to control the narrative have been severely weakened. But if you don't pick yourself up and fight again then it will never happen.
Also Republicans have scored victories in the past with Newt Gingrich's house revolution. Though I was in elementary/middle school back then so I am sure an aged distinguished gentleman such as yourself could help clarify it for me, but from my memory the whole house revolution was derailed by Ken Star's investigation and then Newt's own philandering - neither worth a damn in the grand scheme of things.

The 1994 Republican revolution happened to be the exact circumstance I was thinking of. In my opinion, during that brief period, the Republicans were making honest strides towards constraining leviathan and the Press had a fucking cow over it, and even lied about various aspects of their plans. The Contract with America was basically a rather tepid document about constraining the scope of government, yet it was portrayed as some kind of insane, right wing racist document meant to kill poor people.
Gingrich's "Wither on the vine" comment was exploited to the ends of the earth by both the Democrats and the Media (I repeat myself)- a quote that was aggressively taken out of context in an attempt by the Republicans to devolve the government out of retirement healthcare through the creation of a robust, private insurance system. the 'wither on the vine' campaign that was run by the DNC and gleefully carried by the press attempted to suggest that Gingrich wanted to see Medicare "wither on the vine".
I have no love for Gingrich, but at that time, in that place, the Republicans were at least TRYING.
The Contract with America was basically a rather tepid document about constraining the scope of government, yet it was portrayed as some kind of insane, right wing racist document meant to kill poor people.
The CWA was actually the first real instance of the right, thanks to the influence of the neocons, conceding the battlefield of the culture wars to the left. MTV had essentially gotten Clinton elected and the GOP decided to focus almost entirely on economic issues going forward. People forget that the Starr investigation was started in response to Whitewater, not Bill's philandering, but he couldn't stop himself from chubby-chasing, and it changed the tenor of the investigation.
And yeah, the press had an absolute conniption fit over it. They were completely stunned by the 94 mid-term losses and didn't handle their team getting spanked like that very well.
Thanks both for posts. Got busy and forgot to check them out.
How does ending 230 increase the role of government? Most of the laws I've seen basically just say "you only get 230 if you respect the 1A" in legalese. Not an increase.
And who will say who gets 230 protection, a commission of unelected beaurocrats. I envision it becoming a NLRB like body with all of the bullshit that goes along with that. I can't think of anything worse then that.
Although regulators have found that the chances of developing the condition are low, they appear to be three to five times higher among recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine than among the general population in the United States...
J&J have terrible federal lobbyists compared to the other two.
The risk for the general population is one in a million, while the risk for those who took J&J vaccine (including me) was/is three to five per million.
In contrast, Americans who contracted Covid have had less than a one in ten million chance of reinfection (as just 14 cases have been confirmed in the US among the CDC's estimated 160 million estimated Covid cases), which exposes Anthony Fauci's Biggest Lie claiming the risk of reinfection is very high to justify his lie that previously infected people SHOULD/MUST be vaccinated, which has deprived vaccines for tens of millions of people in poor countries.
https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/08/covid-19-reinfection-tracker/
I'll say it again. At this point, the pressure campaign to get vaccinated is about compulsion, submission, and making society conform. It's power and profits.
Based on all of the side effects of the vaccines, they may have more downside than up for healthy people, certainly for children.

What I find amusing, she seems to fail to note in her comparison, pop feminism is a virulent toxic culture that produces bizarre nonsense terms such as 'toxic masculinity.'
Toxic masculinity = anything a man does a feminist doesn't like, including disagree with them about anything. Feminists who embrace concepts like this but aren't separatists who admit they hate men are liars.

But that's OK. Wages went up an amazing 3.6%

Be fair! If we double minimum wage, all people will be better off (at least until they go shopping).
Worrying about inflation is racist because taming inflation hurts African-Americans the most.
I'm not kidding. That's what they're saying.
"Then, in the ‘70s, inflation took off. Before long, a new Fed chairman, Paul Volcker, was raising rates once again, and this time, to record levels. Black unemployment swiftly soared to a staggering 21%. It wasn’t surprising: Over the past 50 years, in good times or bad, Black unemployment has often run at twice the level of White unemployment."

We're not supposed to worry about inflation, like really?!
"Don't worry, MMT says we just have to put in higher taxes on the rich to keep inflation from happening!"
"Uh, taxes during that time were higher than they are now."
"Why do you have to bring up old shit?"
"Many of the earliest economists, including Irving Fisher, one of the most celebrated of the profession, were staunchly racist and backers of eugenics, the theory that some races are superior to others . . . .
At the root of many economists’ issues with the failures of modern-day economics is the profession’s sometimes fervent reliance on neoclassical theory. Neoclassical economics was established by Progressive-Era economists and asserts that supply and demand are the driving forces behind things like the pricing of goods.
So when looking at something like the racial income gap -- in America, Black workers make 60% of their White counterparts’ wages -- a strict adherent to neoclassical theory might blame the gap on things like disparate education or skills levels, ignoring the impact of race-based discrimination".

Neoclassical (marginalist) economics has a ton of blind spots. What's surprising is that it took the Fed 140 years to admit that since one of the main blind spots is - money.
Course they're not actually going to challenge or re-assess anything. Rather - they'll adopt neoclassical economics - but with quotas this time.

That's not what you elected them to do.
The pressure to make Haiti the United States' problem are about to become immense. An overwhelming majority of Haitians may soon be calling for the U.S. to send troops, establish order, and hold elections. Modern Haiti's lack of robust domestic institutions is a result of foreign intervention. It is a hard and tough row to hoe, but that's what needs to happen in order to have robust institutions of their own. The Haitians must do it for themselves or they will always run into the same problems over and over again.
P.S. The United Nations is unwelcome in Haiti since they introduced a cholera epidemic that infected 800,000 Haitians in 2010--and then lied about it and covered it up.
"Scientists and researchers have repeatedly found, with overwhelming consensus, that U.N. peacekeepers introduced the disease to Haiti for the first time ever recorded by knowingly allowing their infected feces to slough into the Meille River, which locals used for drinking, bathing and washing — in violation of the U.N’s own protocols and the most basic tenets of public health.
Yet for six years, as thousands — if not tens of thousands — of Haitians died painful, degrading deaths of dehydration from severe vomiting and diarrhea, the world’s most important international humanitarian organization destroyed evidence, dissembled and, when all else failed, stonewalled. Ban even promoted the head of the peacekeeping mission in Haiti at the time of the outbreak and initial cover-up to become his own personal chief of staff.

All the pressure will be on Biden to invade Haiti. If he does that, Haiti becomes our problem to solve. The United States is not the solution to Haiti's problems. The Haitian people are the solution to Haiti's problems, and if the United States sends troops, they'll never take the steps necessary to assert local control.
Restoring order and saving the humanity of Haiti would be the battle cry but what would Biden/CIA really want with Haiti?
Beachfront property springs to mind.
This has happened in Haiti over and over again.
It doesn't matter if Biden really wants to do something that cannot be done.
Foreign troops cannot impose legitimacy on a government at the point of a gun. It must grow organically from the people themselves.
It didn't matter whether Bush, Obama, or Trump really wanted to establish legitimate government in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Libya. Legitimacy originates with the people, and it cannot be imposed. It must arise from them naturally of their own accord.
"In political science, legitimacy is the right and acceptance of an authority, usually a governing law or a regime . . . . An authority viewed as legitimate often has the right and justification to exercise power. Political legitimacy is considered a basic condition for governing, without which a government will suffer legislative deadlock(s) and collapse. In political systems where this is not the case, unpopular régimes survive because they are considered legitimate by a small, influential élite."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legitimacy_(political)
The Haitian government has persisted because the government imposed by the U.S. troops (Bill Clinton) in 1994 was considered legitimate by an influential elite.
The Reagan administration kicked "Baby Doc" out in 1986 in an attempt to establish a legitimate government.
The U.S. Marines occupied Haiti from 1915 to 1934 and tried to impose a legitimate government.
I'm here to tell you that legitimacy cannot be imposed by an outside power at the point of a gun. It doesn't matter whether it's Haiti or somewhere else in the world, and it doesn't matter whether the president is really trying to impose a legitimate government with U.S. troops. Abandon all hope. Imposing legitimacy at the point of a gun cannot be done.
We can liberate foreign countries and let them establish their own legitimate governments, but we cannot impose legitimacy at the point of a gun. The people of Paris celebrated when we liberated them from Nazi occupation, and the French people instituted their own legitimate government. The Weimar Republic, on the other hand, was imposed on the people of Germany, and when the French invaded the Ruhr valley to extract reparations in resources (instead of worthless marks) by forcing Germans to mine coal at the point of a gun, the legitimacy of the Weimar Republic plummeted and the legitimacy of nationalism skyrocketed.
Legitimacy must come from within. It cannot be imposed at the point of a gun.
Why not, that's how domestic troops do it.
Oh no they don't!
The war on marijuana fell apart because it lost its legitimacy with the American people.
I was in LA during the riots--when the National Guard came in and restored order. They did not restore legitimacy in the local government. Daryl Gates' position was such that he could not be removed from the LAPD by our elected representatives. When he finally capitulated and resigned, that's when legitimacy in the local government started coming back.
The reason Reconstruction failed so miserably--not just after Union troops were withdrawn from Southern states but while they were still there as evidenced by the emergence of the Klan--is because the Reconstruction governments in the southern states enjoyed very little legitimacy.
Domestic troops can impose order. They do not impose legitimacy.
I believe you misspelled 'puppet' as 'legitimate'.
I believe you should RFA.
I gave a link and everything!
Didn't the UN also run an underage prostitution ring while they were in Haiti? Or was that one of their other "Peacekeeping" missions?
Careful, collectivistjeff is going to call you qanon now
P.S. The United Nations is unwelcome in Haiti since all the raping they did there the last time they were there
Modern Haiti’s lack of robust domestic institutions is a result of foreign intervention. It is a hard and tough row to hoe, but that’s what needs to happen in order to have robust institutions of their own. The Haitians must do it for themselves or they will always run into the same problems over and over again.
Absolutely Ken. The rest of the world screwed up Haiti, but it's the burden of Haitians to fix their own country.
France, 19th century: We don't like that you violently overthrew our benevolent colonial regime and abolished slavery, so we will force you to pay off a debt to the former slaveowners that will take 200 years to repay.
US, 20th century: We don't like that you have corrupt and incompetent leaders, so we will invade and occupy your country for decades, enriching ourselves at your expense.
US, 21st century: Why is Haiti such a shithole? Must be because they just chose poor leaders. Why can't they fix their own problems?
Yeah, after 200 years, I'm sure they'll get it right this time.
Meanwhile, the DR on the same fucking island remains poor, but far less dysfunctional.
Decades? More than 1, less than 2. The costs of occupation were dwarfed by the $500k we stuck in a NYC bank from the former Haitian government. The occupation ended in 1934. If a 21 year old kid can buy legal weed, I think an 87 year old country can take some responsibility for being a massive shit hole.
US, 20th century: enriching ourselves at (Haiti's) expense.
Yes, because in the era of massive sugar beet production on the US mainland, Haiti is still able to enrich anyone, and totally isn't a moneypit.
It wasn't about containing Castro, it was about eNriChinG America.
Yeah, our primary concern in a stable Haiti has been preventing massive refugees from flooding onto the beaches of Florida or flooding through Mexico to Texas.
"The Haitians must do it for themselves or they will always run into the same problems over and over again."
It will never happen.
We take for granted all the things, both big and small, that we never lost when making the transition from colony to country. Like the rule of law (we may be cynics about ours, but compared to theirs it is as good as gold) to name but one of those things.
Sadly, these are also things that nobody can really impose on another society (Iraq was the definitive demonstration project on that.)
So while you are, in a sense, correct, it really does not matter what we do or do not do as regards Haiti. They will not change. If they could they already would have done so. In another age they would be conquered, their own failed society brutally repressed, and the survivors absorbed into the imposed culture of the new rulers.
But at present the ruling order of the world sees that as unjust, so instead the people of Haiti are doomed to languish for centuries more.
"If they could they already would have done so."
I suspect they need to go through this stage, but every time they get to this point in the cycle, the United States comes in and reimposes another foreign solution. It's like an alcoholic with an enabler. Someone who always takes care of them when they get fired. Someone who always bails them out of jail when they get arrested. Someone who pays their rent and feeds them while they act like an alcoholic. Nothing will get better until we stop taking care of them, and there is no choice but to start taking care of themselves.
This process is extremely ugly. We're also talking about places like Libya and the former Yugoslavia. Those forces need to be unleashed, their consequences understood by the people themselves, and then rejected in favor of legitimate government. You can sit on those forces by way of an illegitimate and authoritarian government for decades and decades, but whether it's Tito, Ghadaffi, or Baby Doc, as soon as the dictator is gone, you're back to square one dealing with the same forces that are yet to be unleashed, digested, and rejected.
We've been at this with Haiti for over 100 years. It's time to admit failure. Our efforts to enable this alcoholic have failed to cure him of alcoholism. If he needs to go live under a bridge or do a stint in jail before he hits rock bottom and decides to take responsibility for himself, then maybe that's what needs to happen. They may not want to reinvent themselves as a nation until they have no other choice, but right now they do have that choice available to them.
They have no functioning legislature. Elections that were supposed to happen in 2019 never happened. Their president was murdered. The chief justice on their supreme constitutional court died of covid-19.
And crime, kidnapping, and murder are completely out of control.
The old rule of thumb for legitimacy used to be the number of police per capita required to maintain order. If a government requires an enormous number of police per capita to make people obey its laws or if the government can't generate enough resources to maintain order, then the government is considered illegitimate because people obviously don't respect its laws. Haiti is all but completely lawless right now.
The United State could restore order. We cannot impose legitimacy. If they want a legitimate government, they'll need to make one. And if they need to suffer the consequences of not having a legitimate government until they want one with sufficient intensity to actually accomplish that feat, then that's up to them, too. I wish there were a better way, but there isn't. The U.S. has been doing the same thing with Haiti, periodically, for 105 years. It's never solved the legitimacy problem, and it never will.
"I suspect they need to go through this stage"
Nope. They are like a seed trying to re-sprout. It will never happen.
Not so say that it cannot happen there, more to note that it will never happen so long as the society is recognizably Haitian.
Maybe of somebody invents a process whereby a people can become something other than what they are. But until then, no.
Communist China proving to be nothing more than the latest iteration of Imperial China.
Nothing will get better until we stop taking care of them
FFS. Stop pretending the US is even on the right side with our interventions. Haitians understand exactly what the extent of their choices/means of influence in Haiti is compared to the US-backed military/elites. They also know that they can't oppose the US plans for Haiti.
idk if Haitians actually can control their own future or whether that works. But ain't no way that can happen without the US admitting - to ourselves - how fucked up we have been in choosing sides there.
eg this assassination looks a lot like it's some attempt to create a narco-state via a junta. The assassination squad was Colombians and Haitian-Americans who are DEA 'informants' (read drug dealers). Which sounds like the US might oppose that - until you realize how the US has enabled/supported the narco-states of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras. We Americans are completely oblivious to that because - we always see ourselves on the right side. As overly altruistic and moralizing.
"Stop pretending the US is even on the right side with our interventions"
How could you read what I wrote, and respond to it with that?
At best you have a terrible reading comprehension problem.
I am clearly against our interventions, state so many times in these posts, and if you still don't understand that, you're an idiot.
"Nothing will get better until we stop taking care of them"
----Ken Shultz
Even the statement you quoted to respond to is clearly opposed to our interventions. You must be really stupid!
I am clearly against our interventions
I understand that. But being opposed to or supporting a righteous intervention is very different from being opposed to or supporting an evil intervention. just to give the example here - if you believe we are on the right side, then you put the blame on the other for causing the problems and you end up patronizing and infantilizing them. You rationalize your opposition in the form of 'we should stop taking care of them' rather than 'we should stop fucking them over'. Which means you end up supporting the narrative of interventionists - just disagreeing on the prescription.
Which is fine if that is factually the case. But if it is not the case, then you will a)lose the non-intervention argument and b)support, passively at least, the intervention after it begins and all the propaganda of it.
So Haiti is a shithole?
It's not a nice place to be right now.
I've done a lot of . . . um . . . what I guess you'd call adventure travel in the developing world, mostly in Central America, and I've been to places that people said were shitholes that turned out to be beautiful, unspoiled, and relatively safe.
I've never been to Haiti, but I've been to Belize City, and I would never go there again. I've been hassled by corrupt border officials, abandoned by bus drivers in the middle of nowhere, and walked through cartel controlled cities amid drunken revelers and the nightlife. The only time I was really worried was in Belize City. I had to go through three cab drivers before I could find one to take me to the bus terminal in Belize City. My understanding is that Haiti is like Belize City right now. I wouldn't want to go there, but I hear they have unspoiled, pristine beaches.
https://trip101.com/article/beautiful-beaches-in-haiti
"I’ve never been to Haiti, but I’ve been to Belize City, and I would never go there again. "
I've been to Belize three times. Only due to a delayed flight have I ever spent more than a few hours in Belize City. It is indeed a pit. But the whole country is Pirates of the Caribbean, and everything and everybody is fly-by-night.
Haiti, in decent times, is only really bad in and around the airport, and select neighborhoods in Port Au Prince. Once you are out in the country it is much safer than the DR. It's like stepping back a century or two - knowing names and being known is the best protection you can have.
"but I hear they have unspoiled, pristine beaches."
I understand there are very well kept tourist zones (locals excluded) on the north peninsula. But otherwise, no. Unless you consider goat manure to be pristine. On a mission trip we organized the students to do a beach cleanup - clearing glass, plastic, and every other sort of trash imaginable including medical supplies. A few hours later those same kids were tossing their empty water bottles onto the same beach.

Is it illegal to make a Lego grassy knoll?
Considering Reason supported that murder and has subsequently supported the indefinite detention without bail or trial and the savage beating and brutalization of her co-"insurrectionists" in DC jails while child fuckers walk free with no bail, no, I don't think they'll be exposing or criticizing the murder of Ashli Babbitt any time soon.
Did you actually think Reason gave a fuck about police brutality? Lmfao. Radley Balko is the encapsulation of Reason's stance on police brutality/militarization: occasionally useful for stoking riots and arson, otherwise zero fucks given. George Floyd wuz innocent. Dillon Taylor had it comin'.

Slate looks into conservative publishing…..
Now this is worthy of my interests. Should be enlightening.
The set-up question: Do the books you edit appeal to you politically, or is that not that relevant to you as an editor?
Answer: He skillfuly dodges ENB’s friends question but she remains undeterred.
Exhausted question: OK, but there are plenty of people who could say that and then would add, "Oh, but I wouldn't want to work for a conservative imprint because it's against my own values."
Answer: I’m a libertarian……
ENB Friend inner thought: (In Scooby Doo criminal mastermind voice): Damn you kids and your fallback adherence to libertarianism to cover your wrong think.
Why the hell would a conservative publisher agree to an interview with a Democratic Party organ like Slate? That's just begging for a smear job.
This is why we need to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. A wall between every "conservative" and every "liberal" to ensure that they never talk to each other. For great justice.
Who do you think you're kidding?
There's a big difference between having a conversation like on an unedited podcast, and handing your ass over to a noted DNC smearshop who completely controls all recollection of said conversation.
It's not like anyone should ever be cautious about giving interviews to publications known to be hostile to you.
Evidence #2: Anyone on The Daily Show during Stewart's run that was a threat to the left-liberal consensus.
That wasn’t designed to be a conversation. It was a designed trap to shame an editor that is going against orthodoxy.
But you know that….
I’m not sure she does.

A win against absurd parking fees in Florida:
Ticketed for parking on your own lot? The whole thing should be vacated:
The $165,000 that Sandy owes is a result of daily fines that the city assessed for property code violations. Most of this amount is a result of the way Sandy’s family parks their cars. Sandy, her two adult children and her sister all own cars so that they can get to their jobs. When all four cars are parked in the driveway, sometimes one of them has two tires on the lawn, a $250 per day violation. And those fines continue to accrue until the homeowner corrects the problem and calls the city to inspect the property to confirm it is in compliance.
Here’s a crazy thought: Adult kids with jobs and cars should have their own place, not living with mom.
Here's another: It's none of your nor the gov't's business. Piss off.

Bernie Sanders, defender of communism:
All people have the right to protest and to live in a democratic society. I call on the Cuban government to respect opposition rights and refrain from violence. It’s also long past time to end the unilateral U.S. embargo on Cuba, which has only hurt, not helped, the Cuban people.
One might think Reason would give this a little bit of coverage.
He didn’t say the Cuban government should change in any way.
And the embargo itself doesn't restrict food and medicine shipments.
Honestly, I'm skeptical if Cuba would even be capable of self-governance, at least in the short-term. They were a Spanish colony for hundreds of years, then came under our umbrella even though they were nominally "independent," then were a vassal of the Soviets, and then dependent on Venezuela's crappy, sulfur-heavy oil.
Their society is basically stuck in a Groundhog Day-style time-warp where it's always 1963. I'm not sure they could kick the commies to the curb without them turning into a Russia-style government after a while, or just go back to being a vassal of the US again.
Reading a book by a guy who is heavily committed to keeping the US fully 'engaged' the world over.

I should think the same of the Cubans; the ones immigrating to the US seem to have done fine.

Bernie has always been stupid and self-centered, and always will be.
And give oxygen to Racist Insurrectionists that are Endangering Cuba's Democracy?
So, I realize Haiti and Cuba are going to get more attention just because of their proximity to us, but has anyone noticed what's been popping off in South Africa the last few days, and the relatively subdued press response to it?
KRAKEN update: The MASSIVE FRAUD lawyers are full of MASSIVE SHIT.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/12/politics/2020-election-fraud-claims-lawyer-hearing/index.html
At one point, Parker, sitting in the Eastern District of Michigan, asked the nine lawyers who took part in bringing the lawsuit if they had ever followed up to learn if any of their so-called witnessed actually saw a vote being changed.
No one responded. "Let the record reflect," Parker responded, noting their silence.
"There has to be a minimal belief on the part of counsel that these ... are rooted in fact," Parker said. "Every lawyer has a duty" to do minimal research to verify evidence presented in court, the judge added.
Maybe, just maybe, responsible lawyers should not use lawsuits as a vehicle for grandstanding and partisan messaging.

BIDEN: "We need to go community-by-community, neighborhood-by-neighborhood, and oft times door-to-door, literally knocking on doors" to get people vaccinated. [Video]
And in the conspiracy-addled mind, this OBVIOUSLY means fascist stormtroopers breaking down people's doors and forcibly injecting people with a vaccine against their will. Right?
You're the only one saying it, fatty.
Hey fatass, if as you stated before trespassing is legal justification for summary execution, can I shoot one of these trespassers in the face because I'm afraid they might inject me or someone in my household with a vaccine?
Someone who isn’t my doctor is violating my right to medical privacy should they do this. They would also be criminally trespassing should they get to my front door. We know the left’s punishment is for civil trespass. But I will just have them arrested.
Someone who ASKS you to get vaccinated is violating your "right to medical privacy"?
Someone would be criminally trespassing to do so. If the campaign is targeted, then it violates my right to medical privacy.
If someone in public asks whether I am vaccinated, my response is: Do you like anal?
Is it cool if me and a bunch of health officials walk down Castro asking people if they have AIDS?
How does that person know if you are vaccinated or not dummy?
And what are they going to do with the information after you accept or decline it? Just forget it?
Hey, if it keeps them from 'passing laws', I can't think of a better way to employ 535 wastrels and their staffs.
But they'd better watch out: If one sticks his/her mug in private property, various lefty shitbags here have made it clear that they can be legally shot in the face!
And I see one of those shitbags is already inventing a conspiracy theory to justify his idiocy.
You can rely of jeff for the really stoooopid take on about anything.
Less cynical take I have on this is that Biden wants to brag about how many people he was able to get vaccinated, and he’ll dole out who knows how much money to connected community organizers to help push vaccination, and most of all big Pharma wants as much profit as possible

The idea that a marketplace of ideas can remain open and free without any legislative order and enforcement providing the space for such freedom is simply naïve.
Right-wingers: Down with political correctness! Let everyone debate their ideas freely without fear of retribution!
Also right-wingers. We can't have this completely unregulated 'marketplace of ideas'! Government must step in to maintain order to make sure the 'wrong ideas' are eliminated!
Lefty shits: "We'll tell you how to think about race!"
Also lefty shits: "And we'll use the government schools to do so and don't you dare get the government to tell the schools what to teach; we'll call that "interfering with a free marketplace of ideas"! 'Cause we lie like a rug!
Schoolchildren don't need a "marketplace of ideas", fat ass.
They need an education, and CRT provides nothing resembling that.
But you are living proof of indoctrination and how it failed.
Schoolchildren don’t need a “marketplace of ideas”
That is where the 'marketplace of ideas' is needed the most. Schoolchildren above all ought to be taught strong critical thinking skills, and where else should there be the robust discussion of ideas, even controversial ones, in a respectful and age-appropriate manner, except in school?
Fat boy is gaslighting because he's mad that his lefty boos are being challenged.
Needless to say, forcing 5 year old children to recite a black supremacist racist litany is not teaching them critical thinking nor is it a robust discussion of ideas. That's people in power torturing children and indoctrinating them with disgusting, dehumanizing bilge. Using that same power to prevent those people from torturing children and indoctrinating them with disgusting, dehumanizing bilge is not an abuse of power. If you were functionally literate you would have realized that your idiotic non-sequitur was addressed directly in the piece to which you replied. You were the punchline.
Oh no no no this isn't about whatever outrageous CRT anecdote that you can come up with. This is about opposition to teaching ANY idea in the classroom, regarding race or power or identity, that makes Team Red sad, whether it is "forcing 5 year old children to recite black supremacists" or not. If the curriculum doesn't place White people as the heroes of the historical story, then it's 'racist indoctrination' and the legislature must ban it. If the curriculum doesn't place the blame for disparate racial outcomes squarely where it belongs - at the feet of Black people alone - then it is 'hating whitey' and should be banned by the legislature. Go ahead and come up with whatever anecdote you wish about schools behaving badly, but Team Red has made it clear, from Rufo on down, that their entire argument is a giant motte-and-bailey exercise.
Motte: "They're teaching kids to apologize for being white! We don't like that and want it banned!"
Bailey: "They're teaching kids that White people today have some role to play in solving modern-day problems of racism and disparate racial outcomes, that makes us sad and we want that banned too!"
That's what is going on here, so all of your one-off CRT anecdotes don't mean squat. They are just the mottes in your war on ideas.
"This is about opposition to teaching ANY idea in the classroom, regarding race or power or identity, that makes Team Red sad, whether it is “forcing 5 year old children to recite black supremacists” or not."
But "Team Blue" pushing such nonsense and then ignoring parents opposing it...just fine.
Yup, you're not a prog. Perish the thought.
"If the curriculum doesn’t place the blame for disparate racial outcomes squarely where it belongs – at the feet of Black people alone – then it is ‘hating whitey’ and should be banned by the legislature. "
So, teaching a group of kids they are inherently racist and oppressive due SOLELY to their skin color is OK. Funny, the KKK agrees.
"That’s what is going on here, so all of your one-off CRT anecdotes don’t mean squat."
I'll note these "one-off CRT anecdotes" are based on reality while your claims of what it "really" is about are not based on anything.
So, teaching a group of kids they are inherently racist and oppressive due SOLELY to their skin color is OK. Funny, the KKK agrees.
That's not what I said but that is what you want people to believe, obviously.
Implicit in your 'analysis' is the assumption that the reason why there are disparate racial outcomes in this country is due to individual acts of prejudice by individual White people behaving like bigots. So of course, if anyone were to say that White people (broadly) share some responsibility for disparate racial outcomes, it is equivalent to saying that White people are all bigoted assholes. Starting from this assumption, of course.
But what if there is a different premise - that *one* reason for disparate racial outcomes is NOT because White people generally are all a bunch of seething bigots, but because there are institutional forces beyond any one individual's control that have a role in producing these outcomes, and since EVERYONE interacts with these institutions in one way or another, EVERYONE has a role to play in alleviating the disparate outcomes that they produce, both White people and Black people. It's not due primarily to bigotry or prejudice against Black people. It's due to forces beyond any one individual's control, despite how bigoted, or non-bigoted, that person may be.
I know, crazy, right?
"That’s not what I said but that is what you want people to believe, obviously."
You've WRITTEN this. Repeatedly. Any attempt to stop teaching of blatant racism in public schools is OPPOSED by you.
"But what if there is a different premise – that *one* reason for disparate racial outcomes is NOT because White people generally are all a bunch of seething bigots, but because there are institutional forces beyond any one individual’s control that have a role in producing these outcomes, and since EVERYONE interacts with these institutions in one way or another, EVERYONE has a role to play in alleviating the disparate outcomes that they produce, both White people and Black people. It’s not due primarily to bigotry or prejudice against Black people. It’s due to forces beyond any one individual’s control, despite how bigoted, or non-bigoted, that person may be."
Fine, I'll make you a deal.
We put the blame for institutional racism on the Left...who RUN the institutions and SET these rules in the first place? Would you be OK with us blaming Democrats for every problem blacks face...given that they are predominately responsible for all the problems black people face?
Any attempt to
stop teaching of blatant racismban ideas in public schools is OPPOSED by you.there, fixed it for ya
We put the blame for institutional racism on the Left…who RUN the institutions and SET these rules in the first place?
I am totally fine with placing blame where blame belongs. It belongs to ALL politicians that created the institutions and let them fester for so long. That includes both Team Red and Team Blue politicians. But institutional problems go beyond momentary control of a particular jurisdiction for a particular period of time. Take for example how policing is conducted in this country. Democrats didn't invent the modern style of policing, neither did Republicans. They both signed on to the basic idea of how police forces ought to operate in the modern era and, when different parties take power in different times, just tinker around the edges with the details of how the policing ought to function. But what if the basic model of policing itself is one that produces disparate racial outcomes, and no amount of tinkering around the edges will solve that problem?
No, you didn't fix anything. You advocate teaching racism in schools. Simple, cut, and dried.
Chemjeff, arguing with Damikesc is a waste of time! If you show Damikesc to be UTTERLY full of shit, Damikesc will double down on the full-of-shit commode-mode! Damikesc is ***NEVER*** wrong about ANYTHING!
Hey Damiksec, damiskec, and damikesc, and ALL of your other socks…
How is your totalitarian scheme to FORCE people to buy Reason magazines coming along?
Free speech (freedom from “Cancel Culture”) comes from Facebook, Twitter, Tik-Tok, and Google, right? THAT is why we need to pass laws to prohibit these DANGEROUS companies (which, ugh!, the BASTARDS, put profits above people!)!!! We must pass new laws to retract “Section 230” and FORCE the evil corporations to provide us all (EXCEPT for my political enemies, of course!) with a “UBIFS”, a Universal Basic Income of Free Speech!
So leftist “false flag” commenters will inundate Reason-dot-com with shitloads of PROTECTED racist comments, and then pissed-off readers and advertisers and buyers (of Reason magazine) will all BOYCOTT Reason! And right-wing idiots like Damikesc will then FORCE people to support Reason, so as to nullify the attempts at boycotts! THAT is your ultimate authoritarian “fix” here!!!
“Now, to “protect” Reason from this meddling here, are we going to REQUIRE readers and advertisers to support Reason, to protect Reason from boycotts?”
Yup. Basically. Sounds rough. (Quote damikesc)
(Etc.)

What is crazy is the fact that you've been given dozens of links to direct source material to what is being taught and continue to lie and deny it.
REAL socialism has never been tried.
REAL fascism hasn't been tried yet! But R Mac and Der JesseBahnFuhrer (etc.) and the Trumpist Dictatorshit want to take us there, to the Brave New World!
https://www.salon.com/2021/04/11/trumps-big-lie-and-hitlers-is-this-how-americas-slide-into-totalitarianism-begins/
Trump’s Big Lie and Hitler’s: Is this how America’s slide into totalitarianism begins?
Totalitarians want to turn GOP into GOD (Grand Old Dicktatorshit).
Your ideas have been proving a 100% failure over 100+ years, which is why they have to be forced upon people against their will by activists and abusers who devote their lives to nothing else.
But please do keep pushing so that more of us will recognize the necessity for violence in dealing with the cancer you are.
Your ideas have been proving a 100% failure over 100+ years
My ideas, like "children should develop strong critical thinking skills as a part of a robust quality liberal education program"? Those are a 'failure' in your view?
The Hitler Youth approve your message.
Hitler Youth was the opposite of "developing strong critical thinking skills". WTF man?
So are your ideas
They used racial teachings to promote their version of critical thinking. WTF man?
"Hitler Youth was the opposite of “developing strong critical thinking skills”.
They didn't think so. Just like CRT today, scientific racism was taught in all the best universities in North America and across Europe. They were "listening to the science".
Schoolchildren don’t need a “marketplace of ideas”
Absolutely not. They should be indoctrinated into a set of Patriotically Correct ideas. We don't want kids that have strong critical thinking skills, we want kids that will salute the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance on demand, reflexively defend the cops and the military, vote Team Red, and otherwise obey.
Chemjeff comes out in support of open indoctrination of kids as long as he agrees with it.
I'm parodying your team, pal.
Except this has been your argument for MONTHS now, chuckles.
I have never been in favor of 'open indoctrination of kids as long as he agrees with it'. I am totally fine with discussing ideas in the classroom that I don't personally agree with. Go ahead and discuss Marxism, Communism, socialism, anarchism, monarchism, whatever idea you want in the classroom, in a respectful and age-appropriate manner. It is Team Red that has a fit when some idea is presented in the classroom that makes them sad.
"I have never been in favor of ‘open indoctrination of kids as long as he agrees with it’. "
If jeff didn't lie so constantly and transparently, perhaps someone other than turd, Tony and sarc wouldn't hold this asshole in such contempt.
Teach that trannyism is a mental disorder. Or that America is not a fundamentally racist country to the core. Or that the Constitution was not written solely to harm blacks.
Teach that American buyers should be FORCED to buy Reason Magazine! How's that workin' for ya, you unapologetic authoritarian, you?
chemtard radical deathfat: "Your kids will learn to hate themselves because they were born white, and that's all there is to it."
Credit him for the self-awareness to understand that he should hate himself. His only mistake is in projecting his inadequacy onto others based on no other criteria than their skin color. Being a racist piece of shit is actually one of his more minor character flaws.
Being a racist piece of shit is actually one of his more minor character flaws.
As is the gluttony.
You didn’t say ANYTHING other than spew insults. Typical of many conservatives who come here with the explicit purpose of turning these comments into one giant echo chamber, instead of a place to exchange links, facts, and ideas.
Drive AWAY all those who do NOT agree with “My tribe good, yours bad! My violence good, yours bad!”
It seems to me, that these ideas have REPEATEDLY been tried, and have been found wanting!
Awareness of some root causes would help. Read this: http://www.churchofsqrls.com/Do_Gooders_Bad/
No one is clicking on your guide to shit-munching, Dumbfuck HihnSQRLSo.
Wow, what literary talent and rapier wit! Let’s see if I can match or exceed it, with some OTHER brilliantly smart comments that I have created just now!
Fuck off, spaz!
You eat shit, you said so yourself!
You’re a racist Hitler-lover!
Take your meds!
That’s so retarded!
You’re a Marxist!
Your feet stink and you don’t love Trump!
Your source is leftist, so it must be false!
Trump rules and leftists drool!
You are SOOO icky-poo!
But Goo-Goo-Gah-Gah!
Wow, I am now 11 times as smart and original as you are!
How was your shit breakfast this morning, Dumbfuck HihnSQRLSo?
The laws have nothing to do with a marketplace of ideas. Public schools and government employee training sessions are not open markets for ideas. They are specific government functions appropriately defined and controlled by legislation. In any case, the people pushing for CRT (or whatever you want to call it) are not looking for a free and open debate, they are looking to indoctrinate.
Many who are now fleeing burning cities, or lamenting about the state of universities and higher education, seem to live under an impression that it can all be solved by reasoned debate in the marketplace of ideas. That may be so in an ideal world, but we don’t live in an ideal world. Fanatics in power cannot be reasoned with. Legislation is required to bring back balance when the entire ideological edifice is tilted like this.
In other words: Right-wingers lost in the marketplace of ideas, so they demand government-mandated affirmative action to force the marketplace to consider their ideas.
In other words: when your opponents have used legislation to ensconce themselves in the seats of power, it's perfectly legitimate to use legislation to unseat them from that privileged position. There's another perfectly legitimate way of effectuating that same result, too. At least according to Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
when your opponents have used legislation to ensconce themselves in the seats of power, it’s perfectly legitimate to use legislation to unseat them from that privileged position.
What legislation demands that schools teach these ideas about race and power that you find so objectionable?
What legislation demands that schools hire teachers who don't uniformly and uncritically accept the Team Red narrative about race and power and identity?
So now you are denying that a) Democrats don't have laws in place to limit school choice b) that local school boards implement instructional changes, not teachers c) that CRT is inherently racist as a basic premise and d) the AFT is actively promoting discourse where teachers add credits to class for certain acceptable forms of protest even during school hours?
Yeap. You're an idiot.
Fence-sitting in and of itself is considered the biggest virtue in this niche. Acts of debating and reasoned discussion are what is considered prestigious, not reaching a position on an issue and acting on it. In its purest form, it is a kind of detached virtue signaling.
Keep in mind, when shit finally pops off, these types ALWAYS tend to get steamrolled. Just look at what happened to Cicero.
The author of the Phillipics against Anthony was fence sitting, sure. He did underestimate Octavian's potential and ruthlessness , though.
Look at his actions prior to that when Caesar was consolidating his power, not just that one incident in a vacuum.
Thank you for posting this article here. It reveals, clearer than I can, how far Team Red has sunk into authoritarianism.
The opposition to 'political correctness', because they supposedly just wanted to discuss ideas free of consequence, was always just a ruse. They didn't want free and open discussion of ideas. They instead wanted to replace whose ideas everyone had to bow down to.
"You must believe trans men are no different than biological men" is to be replaced with "You must believe the USA is the greatest nation in the history of the universe without question".
It was never about discussing ideas for their own sake. It was about who was going to be at the top of the cultural heap.
You're welcome! I'm glad it could trigger you into a 10 post histrionic fit of lies and seething. That's exactly what I was expecting.
Note that he has to erect a total strawman as an argument against the reality of what his lefty boos are doing every day.
Bullshit, dude. You are just creating strawmen. Yes, some people do espouse their ideas. But you are ignoring all of the far more intelligent objections and arguments so you can easily dismiss anyone taking a similar position.
The point here is that CRT (or whatever you want to call it) is essentially opposed to the very idea of free exchange of ideas and open argumentation. And it is absolutely fucking despicable to introduce such ways of thinking as good and correct to children.
Bullshit, dude. You are just creating strawmen.
Read the article yourself, Zeb. It can't get much clearer:
Many who are now fleeing burning cities, or lamenting about the state of universities and higher education, seem to live under an impression that it can all be solved by reasoned debate in the marketplace of ideas. That may be so in an ideal world, but we don’t live in an ideal world. Fanatics in power cannot be reasoned with. Legislation is required to bring back balance when the entire ideological edifice is tilted like this.
They want government-mandated 'balance'. What else would you describe that if not authoritarian?
Wow, that is a very unjustified addressing of the argument.
Typical jeff sophistry.
In government run schools. Which government runs. No one here wants public schools to even be a thing. But as long as they are, the choice of what gets taught is somewhat authoritarian. CRT type stuff isn't being introduced as "here's an idea you are welcome to criticize and dismantle", but as truth in many cases. It's just an alternate imposition by government on people. And to many people's minds (mine included) a much more harmful one than teaching that there might actually be something to be proud of about this country.
This is why David French is pushing for the use of the courts. He knows damn well that the courts are so pozzed now that they would largely cave in to the lefty agenda, but guys like him stand to make a mint litigating these things regardless of the outcome.
Legislation threatens the neocons' grift, AND it threatens the monopoly that chemtard's lefty boos now hold.
The courts should be a last resort, not the first place to resolve these kinds of issues. It is a bad thing for the courts to set policy.
If teaching whatever-you-want-to-call-CRT is a violation of a person's civil rights, why wouldn't you want to use the courts? There is already a Civil Rights Act, is there not?
You wouldn't be asking courts to 'set policy', you'd be asking courts to enforce the policy that already exists, right?
If teaching whatever-you-want-to-call-CRT is a violation of a person’s civil rights, why wouldn’t you want to use the courts? There is already a Civil Rights Act, is there not?
LOL, what was the last time a white person won something like that? Bakke vs. the University of California?
"The courts should be a last resort, not the first place to resolve these kinds of issues. It is a bad thing for the courts to set policy."
This.
Why resort to unaccountable Blackrobes when elected representation can get the job done? Isn't that what a republican form of government should do?
Replace the words "critical race theory" with "white supremacy" in the above piece and see if cytotoxic still wants to "teach the controversy" Lmfao
I think that happened on the Fifth Column with Rauch as guest. Rauch could not even accept the premise as plausible, since "white supremacy" as a positive notion is not credible.
It depends on what you mean by "white supremacy".
Hey! The CIA is 0-for-2 in Venezuela and Bolivia. Let’s see if they recover and get a decent batting average in Cuba. A lot will depend on demographics, of course. Does anyone know the population of cranks, Jesus freaks, Covid-denialists, morons (see Covid denialist), fascists, monarchists, reactionaries, bigots and the generally antisocial relative to actual normal people. The higher the ratio the better!
I’m all about demonstrations to combat government oppression (I.e. Portland), but after watching yesterday’s Havana protests I have to ask: you actually want to be governed by these guys?
Piss off you fucking shitstain leftie
Lefty asshole loves big government, gripes when big government does what big government does.
Get a job, pay your mortgage, fuck off and die.
Does anyone know the population of cranks, Jesus freaks, Covid-denialists, morons (see Covid denialist), fascists, monarchists, reactionaries, bigots and the generally antisocial relative to actual normal people
Hilariously enough, no property damage, chazs, looting, or riots took place where these types actually live.
Well... the police there were just doing what you libertarians wanted police to do to demonstrators here. You guys are never fucking satisfied!
I'm comfortable with having the police lock up degenerate kiddie fuckers who post child porn on the internet like you, shreek.
No, they weren't blasting nearly enough white liberals for my taste.
It's hilarious that you call others monarchists when you believe in a total state with a singular point of absolute authority. Then again you fuck children, shreek.
Listen... before Dear Leader there were only 4 of us in the Dictatorship of the Proletariat Club. Jordan, an IT guy, Tom, a waiter, and Angie, a women who worked part time in retail. But now after... well... there’s thousands of pieces of mail every day. I’m thinking of hiring a secretary, but worry what it would do to my image if I exploited the labor of a fellow proletariat. These dilemmas never came up before you guys gaslighted and bullshitted while humping Dear Leader’s leg for the last 4 years. You all have put me— and you— in a big ol’ quandary. Just think... you could have had Mike Pence as President, control of the House and Senate, but nooo... you just had to let Dear Leader keep flapping his dick around because of all these libruls. And now I have to deal with reformists like BERNIE Sanders— now head of the Senate Budget Cmte— getting in the way of true Soviet proletariat revolution. Haven’t you done enough to me? And to you, of course?
Listen...
We know you are a supporter of the most murderous regimes in the history of the world, and seemingly proud of it.
Pay your mortgage, fuck off and die, asshole.
Oh, and pay your mortgage, fuckwad.
>> the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise was
the basis for Jason Bourne?
>>Cases that have been vacated or dismissed still need to be expunged.
der. filing fees ... go State!
I read the linked op-ed by Amy Wilentz. So how should Haitian society reorder itself so the rest of the people can get what they need? And, besides the pair of embezzlers mentioned, what is the "rising business class" doing that earns them the "mafia" nickname?
They should spend trillions of dollars in rewarding campaign contributors, initiate mask mandates, go door-to-door promoting vaccinations and commit to military action against Syria.
Declare war on Canada.
And Switzerland.
Hey, if Jamaica can field a bobsled team no reason Haiti cannot declare hostilities with a landlocked European nation.
Canadian law professor Heidi Matthews tackles toxic masculinity. "Curiously, in 'toxic masculinity' discourse, antisocial and poisonous gender performances are the cause and effect of much of the harm both faced and perpetrated by men," notes Matthews. "That the same basic idea is the starting point for both pop feminist and men's rights approaches to today's so-called crisis of masculinity is a red flag that something is amiss with our framing," she suggests.
All this is covered in chapter 6 of Helen Pluckrose's book, Cynical Theories.
“Curiously, in ‘toxic masculinity’ discourse, antisocial and poisonous gender performances are the cause and effect of much of the harm both faced and perpetrated by men,” notes Matthews.
Given "poisonous gender performances" are "the cause of harm both faced and perpetrated by men", it's surprising Matthews doesn't call for banning gender performances. One wonders if these include the vagina performances And strangely, I've never heard of a man being harmed by a "gender performance".
I must be misunderstanding Matthews and by "gender performance" she means something like behaving like men do (stereotyping them), but then it seems her reasoning is circular, kind of claiming being a man, harms a man and others, just for being a man. As I see this, it's a declaration of war on men and boys, and is not being tolerant or inclusive, as liberals claim they are.
What's behind a new wave of gun owners?
A link to the Washington Post. Riiiight...
Aaand they managed to turn it into a discussion about LGBTQIA+ QTBIPOC
The day they add OMGGTFO and WTFBBQ to their acronym stew is the day I join.
Anybody else notice the oddness of the argument of the Democratic legislators fleeing Texas in going to Washington and demanding the Democrats ram through legislation without so much as consulting the Republicans as a remedy to the Republicans attempting to ram through legislation without so much as consulting the Democrats?
Are Democrats arguing Republicans in DC should do this? Because that SEEMS to be their argument.
I'm sure they would be totally cool with Republican representatives leaving Washington to prevent a quorum in Congress.
Look how they reacted when the Republicans in Oregon did it.
The dems in Oregon had done it before, so it was even funnier.
The Democrats only consult other Democrats, and then only when the election is between two Democrats, and they believe there was fraud and illegal voting in their election.
I'm still waiting for Joe to explain Jim Crow 2.0 in voting legislation bills he opposes. Strangely, reading about Jim Crow in Wikipedia yields this:
"Democrats gradually regained power in the Southern legislatures, after having used insurgent paramilitary groups, such as the White League and the Red Shirts, to disrupt Republican organizing, run Republican officeholders out of town, and intimidate black people to suppress their voting. Extensive voter fraud was also used. In one instance, an outright coup or insurrection in coastal North Carolina led to the violent removal of democratically elected non-Democratic party executive and representative officials, who were either hunted down or hounded out." These days Democrats claim there's no voter fraud, just like then.
I know I told you guys the other day that the coup in Haiti had all the earmarks of a CIA operation but still the question must be asked: What sort of evidence do you suppose Moise had on the Clintons?
I'm still astonished that Clinton robbing Haiti BLIND did not cause more concern by the left, the media, or Reason.
Why is there this consistent pattern of right-wing commenters criticizing Reason for not covering this or that topic, but the critics never bother to check first whether their criticism is so.
Just the first of many articles easily found with a Google search:
https://reason.com/2016/07/27/clinton-cash/
“Even the earthquake in Haiti became a moneymaking opportunity for the Clintons. After the earthquake, the Clinton Foundation announced that it would work with governments and businesses to help rebuild Haiti. Actual rebuilding has been meager.”
Stossel is the ONLY libertarian here and, ironically, not a part of Reason's editorial staff.
White Mike to the rescue. Don't worry Charles Koch, your personal propaganda organ is well defended.
"What sort of evidence do you suppose Moise had on the Clintons?"
Can't be too much. Because the Clintons FUCKING TOOK EVERYTHING.
Maybe some pictures of Slick Willy with some underage girls.
the Clinton foundation was in charge of all recovery rebuilding in Haiti, nothing gets done there without permission and money thru the foundation. the guy was a crook who knew to much about them
Huh. So even Trumpworld seems to think that QAnon is a problem (at least from a PR point of view).
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/07/12/trump-world-distance-qanon-499242
I wouldn't take the opinion of what a Media Matters propagandist would argue about anything.
And BlueAnon is infinitely worse than QAnon, which is a non-entity on the Right as is.
What the heck is "BlueAnon"?
Vague deflection from talking about QAnon.
What is BlueAnon?
Russia hoax is BlueAnon.
Jussie Smollett hoax is BlueAnon.
Belief that there was an actual attempt to OVERTHROW AMERICA by unarmed dudes on 1/6 is BlueAnon.
That Trump's call to Ukraine was impeachable but Biden cutting off their aid was not is pure BlueAnon.
....we can go on for a long, long while if you'd like.
So they are media stories that make you sad. Got it.
You realize, literally, every single one was false, right?
This is why BlueAnon is a much bigger problem than QAnon. Braindead imbeciles like jeff HAPPILY broadcast their support of BlueAnon BS.
What the heck is “BlueAnon”?
Well...

So to sum it up, Jeffy, you and White Mike are Blueanon.
Yeah, funny how chemtard radical deathfat goes on and on about how he isn't a leftist, but is constantly posting lefty op-eds and defending them when they get inconvenienced or resisted in any way.
Always judge articles by politics. No need to actually read them. Knowing the politics is sufficient.
Politico cites a Media Matters stooge. No, there is no need to read a word beyond that point.
The conservative equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "La la la la I can't hear you!"
No, it's "Media Matters is such a laughably partisan org that we cannot take a thing from them seriously".
If I cited Breitbart, you wouldn't take it seriously, either. And they are far more reliable than Media Matters. Which is, admittedly, a low bar/
Low-info sarcasmic obviously doesn't know who Media Matters are.
I judge chemtard by his posting career.
Always judge libertarians by if they team up with a known leftist in Jeff.
Lol
jeff points out that Trump is worried about steaming piles of lefty shit like jeff buying lefty propoganda!
Surprise!
Tell us about the fire extinguisher again, jeff.
Q-Anon is hiding under your bed.
They're gonna gitcha!
If you think the real power centers in the US are the Proud Boys, 4Chan & Boogaloos rather than the CIA, FBI, NSA, Wall Street and Silicon Valley, and spend most of your time battling the former while serving the latter as stenographers, your journalism is definitionally shit.
Fucking tactical nuke right there, but don't expect chemtard to own up to it.
To this day I have no idea what Q-Anon is, only that people on the left are utterly terrified by it, and HBO had a documentary on them... or it... or whatever Q-Anon is.
It's just the latest scapegoat for whatever the left wants to rail against, just like Fox News was for so long, or chemtard's current "Reel Murican" strawman that he likes to use to argue for indoctrination of anti-white curriculums in schools.
By the way, Diane, I'd recommend the following podcast:
https://www.npr.org/programs/invisibilia/992214107/the-chaos-machine-an-endless-hole?showDate=2021-04-29
This is the first in a three-part series, so to really get the whole story you have to listen to all three.
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.
Well... this didn't age well.
So Tik Tok quietly updated their TOS and confirmed that... well, they're kinda spyin' on you.
This went mostly without comment in the MSM.
Meanwhile, China seems to be doing everything it can to stop tech companies from going public in the United States and drawing international shareholders into their ownership.
"China’s cyberspace regulator said on Saturday any company with data for more than 1 million users must undergo a security review before listing its shares overseas, broadening a clampdown on its large “platform economy.”
The security review will put a focus on risks of data being affected, controlled or manipulated by foreign governments after overseas listings, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said, posting the proposed rules on its website".
----CNBC, July 10, 2021
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/10/china-targets-tech-firms-with-wider-clampdown-on-foreign-ipos.html
They killed the IPO of both Didi and Ant Group. On the one hand, they want to dominate the tech industry, but on the other hand, they won't let the tech firms that emerge take the next step.
It's the American menace!
It makes you wonder what the hell happened here. Biden gets into office and now suddenly, after years of the press poo-pooing any dicey behavior on the part of the Chinese Government in regards to Tik Tok, NOW it's a problem?
And what's notable is that tech geeks had cautioned about TikTok being a CCP intel app prior to last year, when Trump brought it up. Suddenly, it wasn't a CCP intel app anymore, it was just goofy teenagers making funny videos.
The only thing I find comical about Tik Tok and possible CPP spying is... the CPP is spying on... zoomers. I'm not sure what valuable intel or cultural insights they'll gain, but whatever.
It's not the content of the videos so much as it is the digital access and backdoors to personal information.
It's crazy, but we're probably more at risk for identity theft and social engineering now, with all this shit on easily hackable databases and personal emails, than we were before the advent of the internet. Taking that shit outside DARPA continues to look more and more like a massive mistake.
Shocking how Reason said Trump's statements about this, which were 100% accurate, were sheer lies.
How is this different than what other social media companies do?
Well, that they denied it and "libertarians" sided with them for the last year is one.
I believe it's probably exactly the same, except it's a company that has deep ties to the CPP.
Wait, you're right, this is no different from what other social media companies do. My bad. Carry on.
A change to TikTok’s U.S. privacy policy on Wednesday introduced a new section that says the social video app “may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information” from its users’ content.
What a shock that a Chinese spyware app would collect such information.
Joe Biden's antitrust narrative doesn't make any sense.
That's because you're stupid and still think the economy has anything to do with economics. In a socialist system such as ours, the economy is determined by politics. You think all these "woke" corporations have a moral conscience? No, they're going woke because that's what their political masters demand. You think the stock market is at all-time highs because businesses are doing so well? No, it's because there's no downside risk when you know the government won't let poorly-run companies go bankrupt. You think bonds are worthless because everybody is so confident in the future? No, it's because money is free and anytime you need some more the Fed will be happy to print you up a few more bagsful. You think successful businessmen like Musk and Buffett and Bezos are successful because they understand business? No, they're successful because they understand politics and know how to milk the government.
Biden's anti-trust narrative doesn't make any sense from an economic point of view, it makes perfect sense from a political point of view. Biden's simply threatening businesses to fall in line or get crushed. Nobody gives a shit about economics any more when politics is all that matters. Face it, there's no "libertarian moment" coming to save us, the free market doesn't exist, we're all communists now.
Communism, fascism, two sides of the same coin.
Fascism at least allows private enterprise to exist so long as it serves the interests of the state, communism will crush private enterprise even if it does amount to cutting off your nose to spite your face. To that extent, I'd say China is more fascist than communist, whereas looking at the shit Biden is willing to do, I'd say he's more communist than fascist. He's willing to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs if it means that goddamn greedy-ass goose doesn't get to have any more golden eggs.
It's a fair assessment, but it also presumes some sort of distinction between the "interests of the state" in China and the "interests of the state: in US under Biden.
Fundamentally both are all about retaining power and rewarding the supporters that deliver them power.
The National Socialist Party needed backers like Krupp, Thyssen and Bayer. Everyone "knew" a private outfit like DuPont could not timely deliver weapons--at least not in Europe. German corporations needed a blustering populist to intimidate reparations-seeking foreigners, so the plank to nationalize the trusts was nullified. Drug exports meant cash for rearmament. Ordinary supply and demand in a mixed economy.
When yours a lipstick lesbian who has taken in the worlds creepiest looking ladyboy as your beard, even a guy like Matt Welch probably seems toxically masculine.
Kleptocracy secret police are getting more forthcoming about snitching on their rats. Does anyone recall how long it took them to admit Jack Ruby was a confidential informant in the thrall of the IRS?
Best post I’ve ever seen from you Hank.
DEA - "we deny any, and I mean any connection, even though the guys who killed a president of a sovereign nation were DEA informers"
American media, clapping hand - "well all righty then, I guess we can go to lunch. FINALLY!""
Remember that Snowden is in a lifetime exile and the CNN got all pissy when Donald Trump called them the enemy of the people.
The widow of slain Haitian President Jovenel Moïse on Saturday accused shadowy enemies of organizing his assassination to stop democratic change, as a struggle for power intensified in the Caribbean nation.
Moïse was gunned down before dawn on Wednesday at his home in Port-au-Prince by what Haitian authorities said was a unit of trained assassins comprised of 26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans.
Doubts have grown, though, about that narrative, with families of at least two of the Colombians saying they had been hired as bodyguards.
