New Life for Wuhan Lab Leak Hypothesis
Plus: Protesters increasingly hit with "civil disorder" charges, why cryptocurrency prices are falling, and more...

A new intelligence report lends support to the idea that COVID-19's roots lie not in a seafood market but with researchers at a scientific lab. But officials, scientists, and the media are still bitterly divided over what to make of it.
From the earliest days of the pandemic, the prevailing theory about the new coronavirus's roots was that it migrated from animals to humans at a "wet market" in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Yet doubts about that explanation have abounded, too, with others suggesting that it was accidentally leaked from a nearby lab facility that did research on coronaviruses. Now, evidence in a newly revealed U.S. intelligence report lends credence to the lab leak theory.
According to the previously undisclosed report, three scientists from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) were hospitalized due to illness in November 2019—a.k.a., right around the time when COVID-19 is thought to have started spreading. The first documented case of the new coronavirus was on December 8, 2019.
How to interpret this revelation is up for serious debate.
U.S. headlines provide a good glimpse of this divide. "The 'Wuhan Lab Leak' Theory Looks More Credible Than Ever," asserted the New York Post editorial board over the weekend. "No, Science Clearly Shows That COVID-19 Wasn't Leaked From a Wuhan Lab," says Forbes.
Media ambivalence echoes that from scientists and public health authorities.
"Current and former officials familiar with the intelligence about the lab researchers expressed differing views about the strength of the supporting evidence for the assessment," notes The Wall Street Journal.
Top White House COVID-19 adviser Anthony Fauci—who said last year there was no scientific evidence that the virus was made in a lab—has recently been less convinced.
Fauci was asked at the United Facts of America: A Festival of Fact-Checking earlier this month if he was still confident that the virus must have developed naturally. "No actually," Fauci said. "I am not convinced about that."
"I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out to the best of our ability what happened," he added.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities continue to vehemently dispute the lab leak theory, along with the idea that the virus even started in China at all. They suggest that perhaps it originated in a lab at Fort Detrick in Maryland, though there is little to back this up.
The WIV team also dispute that COVID-19 came from their work and reject the idea that the hospitalized researchers are a smoking gun. From the Journal:
Shi Zhengli, the top bat coronavirus expert at WIV, has said the virus didn't leak from her laboratories. She told the WHO-led team that traveled to Wuhan earlier this year to investigate the origins of the virus that all staff had tested negative for Covid-19 antibodies and there had been no turnover of staff on the coronavirus team.
Marion Koopmans, a Dutch virologist on that team told NBC News in March that some WIV staff did fall sick in the autumn of 2019, but she attributed that to regular, seasonal sickness.
"There were occasional illnesses because that's normal. There was nothing that stood out," she said. "Maybe one or two. It's certainly not a big, big thing."
It isn't unusual for people in China to go straight to the hospital when they fall sick, either because they get better care there or lack access to a general practitioner. Covid-19 and the flu, while very different illnesses, share some of the same symptoms, such as fever, aches and a cough. Still, it could be significant if members of the same team working with coronaviruses went to hospital with similar symptoms shortly before the pandemic was first identified.
U.S. research into the lab leak hypothesis and statements about it seem to have been stymied by political tension and posturing. The Trump administration was accused of being open to the theory because it made Beijing look bad, while the Biden administration seems reticent to take the theory more seriously precisely because it was pushed by Trump. One Biden administration official told the Journal that the Trump-era intelligence report first discussing sick Wuhan researchers was an attempt "to put spin on the ball."
And the World Health Organization (WHO) has attempted to investigate but has been thwarted by a lack of transparency from China:
Members of the WHO-led team said Chinese counterparts had identified 92 potential Covid-19 cases among some 76,000 people who fell sick between October and early December 2019, but turned down requests to share raw data on the larger group. That data would help the WHO-led team understand why China sought to only test those 92 people for antibodies.
Team members also said they asked for access to a Wuhan blood bank to test samples from before December 2019 for antibodies. Chinese authorities declined at first, citing privacy concerns, then agreed, but have yet to provide that access, team members say.

Protesters are increasingly getting hit with "civil disorder" charges. "In the last year, the Justice Department has turned extensively to civil disorder, a once rarely used law, to crack down on crimes they say were committed during protests and other unrest," reports NPR.
Civil disorder was criminalized as part of the 1968 Civil Obedience Act. It can carry a prison sentence of up to five years for interfering with police or firefighter duties during a protest or civil unrest in a way that "adversely affects commerce" or disrupts the "conduct or performance of any federally protected function." In other words, it gives the feds a lot of leeway to charge protesters and people practicing civil disobedience.
"There's overtly racist sentiments of the drafters of this statute," Lisa Hay, a federal public defender for the District of Oregon, told NPR. "The statute was written during a time when senators were concerned with the civil rights movement and they wanted to stop the civil rights movement by arresting its leaders."
These days, it's been turned against racial justice protesters and protesters on the far right.
"During the last 30 years, civil disorder was used in roughly a dozen cases nationwide," notes NPR. But "in the last 12 months, the Justice Department turned to the charge more than 125 times."

Why are cryptocurrency prices falling? Bitcoin dropped 29 percent last Wednesday alone, and other cryptocurrencies have seen prices fall as well. "Bitcoin has lost about 40% of its value since April 13 when it hit a high of more than $64,606 per coin," notes CBS News. What gives?
In part, it's threats of government regulation that are causing the decline:
Before Wednesday, Tesla's decision to not accept the digital currency as payment for cars, along with concerns about tighter regulation of digital currencies, were major factors in the decline. The price is still up about 31% in 2021 and nearly 300% from a year ago.

Yes, most thoughtful people realized that the probability of a dangerous coronavirus suddenly turning up only a stone's throw from a lab working on said dangerous virus by natural causes is essentially zero. So the wet market propaganda was only believed by the extremely gullible, which, unfortunately, includes the US MSM. That Fauci facilitated the research should have removed him from any discussion of the work or any response. That the CDC did not do so speaks volumes.
Yeah, this has been well known amongst us conspiracy folks for a long time. I think zerohedge reported on it even before wuflu made it to the US.

Yes, Cruella DeBrown did scream that stupid shit all last summer.
What a piece of work.
Yes, the organization of which Fauci is head put some $6 million into this research over a few years, out of a total budget of some $40 billion per year. I'm no Fauci fan but come on. People at the top can't know the details about everything going on, there is too much to know. He's an idiot for not admitting it, and we shouldn't be sending money to China for research, and Covid probably came from that lab, and the Chinese are massive dicks for letting it spread and should be held responsible whatever that would mean, but you're getting into making some leaps of faith and logic.
"New Life for Wuhan Lab Leak Hypothesis"
What?! That's a discredited right-wing conspiracy theory. Nothing more than a racist attempt to blame China for a pandemic that was, in fact, Drumpf's fault.

I get it. You're looking for anything to distract from the criminal stupidity and incompetence of Republican governance.
Sure. And then we can go after the Democrats with their "competent" stupidity.
Intentional stupidity.
Republicans were running the Wuhan lab?
Are you confusing me with someone else?
I've repeatedly pointed out that the two main villains of the pandemic have been Drumpf and Ron DeSantis — both Republicans. I have also praised Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) for leading New York to the best covid results in the country. Finally, I have noted that Biden deserves credit for the vaccine.

Political science is science too!
I could see where officials might be "bitterly divided" over it, but Sciencetists and Journolists are fair, impartial, dispassionate Seekers of Truth, so why would they be averse to simply following the facts no matter where they might lead?
Like I said, facts are words that support the current narrative. Those who keep up with current political goals should be able to predict facts.
Let the record show that Jerryskids was pointing out that a COVID leak from the Wuhan lab was highly probable back when this shit all kicked off.

There you go your eighter for social justice or you are far right. The people protesting Michigan's stupid lock downs = far right. Blm burning building =social justice. ENB once again you have shown your self to be completely dishonest.
But on the civil disobedience question. At what point do on persons rights end and another's begin. For instance if blm protesters shut down a business because it is Malcom X birthday should they be charged with civil disobedience, or should the business be charged for violating the protesters grievence?

WITHOUT EVIDENCE rears once again its head after six months' dormancy.
That "debunked claim" type phrasing seems to become ritualistic when discussing Trump's disputes about the election.
"The WIV team also dispute that COVID-19 came from their work and reject the idea that the hospitalized researchers are a smoking gun."
It's incumbent on intelligent and knowledgeable people to present the evidence fairly, but it's also incumbent on us to present the central questions fairly--and the most pertinent question at this point isn't necessarily whether the research that started to pandemic was created in a lab. The most pertinent question at this point is why the NIH under Dr. Fauci's NIAID funded extremely dangerous research at a Chinese lab with a terrible safety record. Early indications suggest that it may have been because they were prohibited from doing this research in the United States because it was considered too dangerous.
Let me be clear, there is NO QUESTION about whether the NIAID funded research that had taken coronaviruses from bats beforehand, to which gain of function attributes were added, and funded the research that made those souped-up coronaviruses transmissible to humans. The evidence for that is independently verifiable and publicly available through applications for funding for the research that were approved by the NIAID under Dr. Fauci. The applications show exactly what this research was for--making the coronaviruses transmissible to humans for research purposes.
Whether this was actually the cause of the pandemic is still an open question, but the smoking gun isn't about that. The smoking gun is that the NIAID under Dr. Fauci was playing Russian roulette in a Chinese lab with a terrible safety record. Whether Dr. Fauci and company won or lost the game of Russian roulette is beside the point. That Dr. Fauci and the NIH playing Russian roulette with our lives is an established fact, and that was a profoundly stupid thing to do--regardless of whether he won or lost.
Mark my words, it’s all on Fauci.
It doesn't matter whether this is the source of the pandemic or not.
They're guilty of recklessly funding this research--regardless. Even if the gun didn't go off when they pulled the trigger, they stuck a gun to our heads and pulled the trigger--and there is no dispute about that part of it, not even by the NIH. Being responsible for that is more than enough to hold them accountable.
If we subsequently find out that the gun did go off when they pulled the trigger, things should be worse for them--but there's already more than enough independently verifiable and publicly available evidence to condemn the people in charge. I don't know why Fauci hasn't already been forced to resign.
Nobody wants to believe it.
I just don't understand how he's still employed by the government? Obama put a hold on Gain of Function research, and he worked around that; that should go down as being on par with MacArthur trying to expand the Korean war into China - whether you agree or disagree with either of those men's policies they took it upon themselves to subvert our elected leaders - that can not stand in a democratically elected Republic.
Just to be clear--and people will come after you for this later if you keep saying this--the gain of function research itself was not on the application for funding.
The funding was for taking the viruses with the gain of function already added and making them transmissible to humans through the use of humanized mice.
They're playing coy with the wording of people's questions and saying that the funding wasn't for creating the souped-up bat viruses, but the funding was for taking those souped-up bat viruses and making them transmissible to humans.
The research in which Shi Zhengli, the woman pictured in ENB's post, created the souped-up coronaviruses in question is also publicly available and independently verifiable. She collected a thousand viruses from bats in caves in southern China and detailed the gain of function process by which she created the viruses in research that was published and publicly available.
Facui's NIAID funding doesn't appear to have funded the actual creation of the viruses, just taking those viruses with gain of function enhancements and making them transmissible to humans.
Watching Dr. Facui deny that they funded the creation of the viruses is a non-denial denial. It's like he's denying having built the gun that they pointed to our heads. Having built the gun isn't what he's accused of doing. He's accused of holding the gun to our heads and pulling the trigger.
Thanks for expanding my "worked around it", it was doing a lot of work. Yes that is what they do with the weasel wording and the like. It reminds me of the intelligence community creating the term "meta-data"; we weren't collecting data just "meta-data", which is data - 1s and 0s don't lie.
Tri-state buffers on the other hand constantly lie and are not to be trusted
Please, your Republican piece of shit ass is guilty for putting Trump in office. The smoking gun is that the NIAID under Dr. Fauci was playing Russian roulette in a Chinese lab with a terrible safety record.
Gee, perhaps Dr. Paul could ask him about this?
For those of you who don't know, Rand Paul and Ron Johnson (Senator from Wisconsin) have sent a letter to the NIH laying out the verified facts and asking the NIH some pointed questions about why and how this funding was greenlighted, who approved the funding at the Wuhan Virology Institute, etc. It provides an excellent summary of the facts we know now. You can read a fat chunk of the letter here:

Use the Wayback machine if necessary.
Fauci helpfully denied that he sent any money to Wuhan (directly)
He didn't deny that they sent the money. Fauci denied that the money they sent went to the gain of function research specifically, which isn't really the question if the research merely made souped-up viruses transmissible ti humans.
I think he was trying to parse around that they did not directly fund it. What they did was fund a research institute who then funded the research in Wuhan. Magically their hands are now clean.
No.
He can't deny funding it. It's on the public record. In independently verifiable and publicly available applications for funding, this lady at the Wuhan Virology Institute asked Fauci's NIAID (NIH) for funding for a very specific line of research, and the application details that she would use the money to make her coronaviruses, which had previously been souped-up with gain of function enhancements, transmissible to humans through the use of humanized mice.
He is not denying that his NIAID funded the research in question. He can't. There's no way to do that when the application for funding that details these experiments is a public document, and the application was approved by the NIAID under Fauci.
All Fauci is contending is that the experiment he funded under the NIAID wasn't for gain of function research itself--which is technically true. The experiment the NIAID funded did not use gain of function process to create the virus in question. It simply took a virus they had already engineered and made it transmissible to humans--which is the real problem here. He's denying creating the murder weapon, but creating the murder weapon isn't the issue.
Using the weapon to murder people is the issue, and the research took those gain of function viruses and made them transmissible to humans. There is no question about that, and there is no way for Fauci or the NIAID to deny that's what the research did. That's what it says on the application for funding. That funding was approved. Those documents are public.
Thank you for your contributions. By only quibble is that I think the better metaphor is that Fauci didn't provide the gun per se, but he did load it.
Like Jerryskids pointed out here a few weeks ago, we outsource our viral research to China for the same reason we outsource our manufacturing--because China doesn't give a shit if 100 million of its own people die, just like they don't give a shit if they pollute their own environment, and so their regulatory and safety controls are far more lax than they would be here.
This is nothing more than the latest incident of the nation's leaders selling out to the Chinese since Nixon, it's just that in this instance, it ended up affecting the entire planet rather than just a few manufacturing areas in the Rust Belt.
I think it's likely that the reason they were outsourcing this was because there were regulations against it, for safety reasons, and/or because no American lab in their right minds would take on the risk.
We can't prove that at this point, but just going by the independently verifiable and publicly available facts we have, there's more than enough condemn Dr. Facui's NIAID and the NIH given what we can prove.
"I think it’s likely that the reason they were outsourcing this was because there were regulations against it, for safety reasons, and/or because no American lab in their right minds would take on the risk."
UNC was just fine with this, until Congress freaked, and yanked their grant. You can find plenty of examples of domestic GoF testing for this bug and a bunch of others, long before Covid-chan was a twinkle in 4Chan's eye.
The risk wasn't the problem for these US scientists like Daszak; the lack of money for the rest of their work was.
The market cap of the biotech industry is well over $1 trillion, and they know about UNC and how to use a phone. Why wasn't the money forthcoming from private investors?
Market cap /= money available for giving to researchers. Ask the professional academic researchers here (I know we've a few) what the primary sources of their funding are. Some is from industry---which may also have the caveats that the researcher can't publish immediately what they find, but I really thought that most of, e.g., UNC's Life Sciences funding came from .Gov and pseudo .Gov like the NSF?
Moreover, let's say...Amgen decides to fund GoF research in the States. What's their potential liability exposure versus the commercial potential of such a find? Private companies care very much about the first, in a way I don't think NIH usually does.
If that gain of function research on viruses collected from bats in China were worth the risk, the NIAID might have a hard time beating Biotech Beach to financing it. The market cap of the Biotech industry is an indication of how enthusiastic the biotech industry is about financing research, and just like it is with commercial real estate deals, there are always fewer great projects than there is money willing to finance them.
If you have a good project, finding the money to finance it is the least of your problems unless you're in the middle of a credit crunch. People typically turn to public financing because the project they want to pursue doesn't make much sense financially.
If the markets won't lend Greece money at reasonable rates, through bond sales, it's because Greece hasn't made the necessary changes and until they do, that money shouldn't be lent to Greece. The reason Greece goes to Germany, in that situation, is because the markets are being rational and the government of Germany doesn't have that problem.
It's the same thing with the biotech industry. There are some 3,000 private biotech companies in California, many of them clustered in southern California like tech companies are in Silicon Valley. There are plenty of companies with highly speculative products still in development that find financing from private investors.
If you can't find private financing for dangerous research because it's too dangerous or because the payoff is insufficient, your project probably shouldn't be financed. That's the way it works in commercial real estate, too. If you can't find private financing, your project probably shouldn't be financed.
It certainly appears to be the case that this research Fauci's NIAID financed in Wuhan probably shouldn't have been financed. It may require a bunch of expert government bureaucrats to finance a disaster like this--expert fools rushing in where angel investors fear to tread.
I haven't seen such an important story morph into nonsense about smoking guns since the Bush administration was trying to deflect the question of whether it was in our best interests to invade Iraq by making it an argument about whether Saddam Hussein had WMD. It was entirely possible that it was not in our best interests to invade Iraq--even if Saddam Hussein had WMD.
Likewise, Dr. Fauci and the NIH are responsible for recklessly funding extremely dangerous research at a Chinese lab with a terrible safety record. There is no disputing that! They pointed a loaded gun at our heads and pulled the trigger. And you want to talk about whether that was the cause of the bullet in our head--as if they should only be held accountable if the gun went off?!
That does not compute.
I think it does matter if it came from that lab. And we should find out. I may have been playing with matched in the warehouse but was it faulty wiring that caused the fire?
If it turns out it was from this lab, then Fauci becomes the 21st Century’s biggest villain (except for Trump, because of mean tweets).
It matters whether that we find the ultimate cause of the pandemic, and if 3 million people died and the world economy was devastated because of the poor decisions of some incompetent bureaucrats, it's important that people know that, too.
However, on the question of whether incompetent bureaucrats should be held accountable for taking unnecessary and extremely high risks by funding this research in Chinese lab with a terrible safety record, whether this research was the source of the virus doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter whether the bullet went through our heads when they pulled the trigger. All that we need to know--in order to hold them accountable--is that they held the gun to our heads and pulled the trigger.
They're making it seem as if the question of whether to hold the NIH and Fauci's NIAID responsible for their incompetent and reckless behavior depends on whether the pandemic started from a virus that escaped from their lab, and that is simply not so.
If they tried to murder us and failed, that doesn't mean they aren't guilty of attempted murder. I don't think this pandemic was created on purpose by anybody. Even if it escaped from a lab because of research funded by Fauci's NIAID, it was almost certainly unintentional. But that isn't the point. The question is whether this dangerous research should have been funded in a Chinese lab with a terrible safety record, and the answer is no.
If Dr. Fauci were working for me, he wouldn't be working for me.
My trick knee tells me if that lab was not the source, nothing will happen as a result of it being funded by Fauci. Something should but there won’t be and would be the wrong hill to die on.
IF it was the lab he funded that caused this, maybe this becomes the libertarian moment where support grows to limit government.
If and when the Republicans can get control of the House and/or the Senate, there will be hearing on this.
The Democrats have nothing to gain and a lot to lose by Fauci resigning. Clinton rejected Reno's resignation in the wake of Waco for the same reason.
For goodness' sake, if Fauci were forced to resign, it might make it seem like Trump supporters were right to doubt doing what they're told, and that way lies insurrection!
Rosa Parks also doubted doing what she was told.
This situation came about because American labs were regulated out of doing that kind of work for being too risky under the Obama administration. Outsourcing gain of function research to Chinese labs instead of just discontinuing it until after better procedures could be developed appears to be the foolish part.
+1
But we need to see the NIH, NIAID, and Dr. Fauci say it on camera.
Our elders tried to warn us:
Play with fire and sooner or later you're going to get burned!
Dogs can be trained to detect more than 90 percent of Covid-19 infections even when patients are asymptomatic
"We don't need no stinking vaccine badges!"
Only 90% ?
NOT SAFE ENOUGH!
One is sure someone's doing gain of function R&D.
Maybe cross-breed a dog with a bat...
The Weekly World News was warning us about Batboy since the 1990.

The remaining 10% are PCR induced false positives.
100% safe or die!
Reminds of the story just the other day, about the police dog who never ever failed to alert his handler to the presence of drugs. 100% of the time.
"You're going to have to come with me"
"Due to our advanced homeopathic enhancement technology, these dogs can detect even the former presence of a single virus."
Dogs can probably just tell if your ill in general. Not what you are ill with.
"This dog indicates you're ill in general. You’re going to have to come with me.”
They can be trained to detect specific things by smell beyond human ability. Cancer for example. I doubt this will have any practical use.
"Reminds of the story just the other day, about the police dog who never ever failed to alert his handler to the presence of drugs. 100% of the time.
“You’re going to have to come with me”"
My thoughts as well. I wonder what happens if the dog says you are "positive" and you fail to produce your vaccine papers? I love animals, but dogs aren't infallible and are certainly not unbiased. They LIVE to please their handlers/trainers.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG HERE?
Full-page ad in the Chron this morning:
"Chris Kempczonski. President & CEO, please stop the racism against Black Owned Media companies by McDonald's"
The "racism" is a lack of McD's media buys in black-owned media companies, as if you could look at a company name and figure out the race of the owner(s).
"Woke" at a whole new level.
Obviously the solution is to force everyone to advertise everywhere.
Think of the JOBS!
"Force everyone to advertise everywhere"?
We already have that. Its called virtue signaling.
It should also be noted, McD's buying a ton of ads in black owned media companies is ALSO racism, because that's targeting blacks with advertising for unhealthy fast food which causes poor health outcomes in black communities.
Actually, as I think about it, it seems that all the McD's ads I see these days in print and on video have black characters.
I've noted that, because not long ago, we were hearing about food ghettos and how fast food franchises like Mickie D's were to blame for obesity amongst blacks.
Someone didn't get the message.
They ran the same scam on GM in Detroit.
Update from Audit County, Arizona:
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/05/arizona-audit-recount-claiming-trump-won.amp
Summary: It is a giant mess. Counters are counting ballots way too fast, leading to errors, the count is being run entirely by partisan Republicans and true believers in the "MASSIVE FRAUD" baloney, there is an entire staff devoted to classifying ballots as "suspicious" based on arbitrary standards, and the spokesman in charge of the audit is either ignorant or intentionally gaslighting everyone about what is going on. Plus they are likely spoiling the ballots permanently so whatever they come up with can't be duplicated.
This entire shitshow is about intentionally generating doubt in the outcome so that the legislature will feel empowered to ignore the will of the voters should the "wrong" party win next time.
If the Republican wins in 2024: "See, our reforms worked!"
If the Democrat wins in 2024: "See, look at all that massive fraud! Same as last time! Therefore we will appoint our own slate of electors anyway!"
Cry more.
This sort of thing was going to happen no matter who won the election.
If the Democrats were smart (and honest) and actually cared about healing divisions, they would say "yes, let's audit the election and do it properly".
Their definition of "properly" is done behind closed doors (and covered windows) using people the suspected fraudsters approve of. Sounds Legit
Actually, no. If you actually bother to read the article, or look at any of the procedures for counting ballots on Election Day, they are counted by teams, in the open.
Those are the procedures but that is not at all what happened.
There's shitloads of video of the official observers being kicked out and shutters being drawn.
The only thing out in the open was the blatant fraud.
And this is why the audits terrify you, because you know that team blue is guilty as hell.
Well, for the sake of argument, I'm assuming that Democrats actually want to bring people together and actually believe that the election was all on the up and up.
Sure! Why just last week, the new POTUS held a press conference and encouraged Americans to stop the divisions and come together.
Oh, wait. I think I was trying Gillespie's mushroom procedures.
Strike that.
And while we're at it, let's audit the Moon Landing to make sure it wasn't faked!
By giving in to these conspiracies, they give them credibility that they don't deserve.
at least you're finally admitting that you think audits should be out of the question for any election result that you approve of. Thank you
I think there needs to be some legitimate, factual basis for an audit before launching one. OR, that audits should be a routine, recurring practice, such as with annual financial audits. Launching an audit, run by partisans, only because your team lost, is not an "audit", it is sour grapes.
Think of it as “fact checking “.
Or, redistricting.
That always plays out so "fairly" too.
That horse has left the barn. There are enough people with concerns about the election that you can't just write them all off as cranks. Even if they are. That's democracy. Even the crazy weirdos get a say.
Why bring democracy into a one party system?
They didn’t have the power to do that in Arizona, since the Republicans have the legislative majority.
It's amazing how frightened you and your pals are of this audit.
If you really believed that there wasn't massive fraud, you wouldn't give a shit if the whole thing was audited.
If the Republican wins in 2016: "Impossible! Russian meddling! Subvert and resist! Impeach!"
Oh here we go. The false equivalence.
You started it with your own bullshit. You have some serious cognitive dissonance there fatty.
You claim the Glibs are oh, so happy to see you and you really prefer the level of conversation over there, and everyone here, noting what a lefty shit you are, is so unfair to you....
Why don't you just fuck off?
It's not a fals equivalent. It is literally the same scenario. The only difference is the dems literally falsified evidence to go after trump.
I'll bet the farm that chemleft doesn't know what "false equivalence" actually is.
If the Democrat wins in 2020: “Impossible! Massive fraud! Storm the capital! Forever audits!”
Yeah, and when Trump won in '16, the Ds were just fine with that, right?
At least they didn't storm the capitol.... Ohh wait they mostly peaceful protested the capitol
Four years of "resistance" and pussyhats have suddenly vanished from Brandybuck's mind.
Political Alzheimer's hits committed Democrats routinely.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SCu2gxVZ4E8&pp=QACIAgE%3D
It's okay because the other team did it first.
Well, not OK, but perhaps understandable.
For me the big story here is the massive hypocrisy and dishonesty of the media and politicians.
Forever audits of elections doesn't seem like a bad idea either, really.
Turnabout will always be fair play.
Honestly, the Democrats have been doing this since at least 2000. The Republicans are largely in catch-up mode, and the crazies are taking the lead because the nominal powers in the party (both parties at this point, really) are utterly incapable of actual leadership.
"You started this" should be the words you guys hear every day.
Adapting to the rules of the battlefield is how you survive.
There are no rules in battle. Oxymoron: Rules of war.
I look forward to seeing your reaction to this audit result. You, chemjeff and the rest of the concern trolling left.
"counting ballots way too fast, leading to errors"
LOL. How do you think the speed compares to the first time the ballots were counted?
Maybe you should read the article and find out.
did you read the article? it's a lot of hot air. The author is an idiot who started out with their conclusion and pathetically tried to contort their ignorant interpretations of what they saw into a critique, when they obviously had no idea what was going on the entire time. The "speed counting" was a perfect example of that.
""The author is an idiot who started out with their conclusion and pathetically tried to contort their ignorant interpretations of what they saw into a critique, ""
Sounds like NY's AG.
I hope you didn't expect chemleft to post a link to anything other than DNC agitprop.
He is paid to do it after all.
It's slate, the author didn't even read the article.
I have to admit, there was more factual information in there than I expected. But it was used as fluff, not to support their point. The writer probably had to resort to that to reach a certain wordcount...but you could tell it was a foreign concept to them.
"the auditor, who was holding his pet Koala at the time, which is a kind of marsupial found in the eucalyptus forests of Australia, told me I didn't know wtf I was talking about and tried to explain to me the purpose of the audit while I sat there with a confused expression on my face. But I talked to a whole bunch of other people who were also unable to help me understand the purpose of an audit, so naturally I assumed that they were all the incompetent ones"
That is the best slate impression I have ever heard
Anyone citing Slate deserves the crap they get.
I hope he starts quoting their sex advice column.
It's not like he actually has first-hand experience in the matter.
https://www.salon.com/2021/05/24/fixed-up-rudy-giuliani-pressured-arizona-official-to-find-a-nice-way-to-resolve-this-election/
""Bill, it's Rudy Giuliani, President Trump's lawyer," Giuliani reportedly said in the message he left Gates. "If you get a chance, would you please give me a call? I have a few things I'd like to talk over with you. Maybe we can get this thing fixed up. You know, I really think it's a shame that Republicans sort of are both in this, kind of, situation. And I think there may be a nice way to resolve this for everybody."
”Bill, it’s Rudy Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer,” Giuliani reportedly said in the message he left Gates. “If you get a chance, would you please give me a call? I have a few things I’d like to talk over with you. We've got to get this Epstein mess behind us. Lest we all go down for a bit of wild but harmless fun."
Ah, Salon, the second head of the Retard Left-Liberal Ghidorah.
All we need is a Vox link to complete the body.
How did UFO investigations become a serious matter?
I would suggest checking to see what they might be trying to distract attention from, but since this is now a "serious" matter I'n sure Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the MSM have a serious policy about only allowing serious discussions to be held about the matter and definitely no conspiracy theory nutjobs offering alternative explanations allowed. Even though as little as a year ago, anybody talking about UFO's was automatically dismissed as a conspiracy theory nutjob. We have always been at war with Eastasian UFO's.
Even though as little as a year ago, anybody talking about UFO’s was automatically dismissed as a conspiracy theory nutjob.
To be fair, Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.

everything they say is fact.
OK, some were also dismissed as historical fabulists.
What is not contested, but seldom mentioned, is that wherever it came from, the Communist Chinese Party deliberately let thousands of international travelers go abroad while locking down all internal travel. (except party officials, of course)
Germ warfare at its lowest level.
This exact scenario played out in The Stand. The superflu spread from an accidental leak in a US germ warfare facility. The US then infiltrated infected agents all over the world to hide the origin.
These days, it's been turned against racial justice protesters and protesters on the far right.
"During the last 30 years, civil disorder was used in roughly a dozen cases nationwide," notes NPR. But "in the last 12 months, the Justice Department turned to the charge more than 125 times."
NPR went on to say, "We need to fix this so they only arrest far right seditionists."
Protesters are increasingly getting hit with "civil disorder" charges.
All you have to do is click on the link to the NPR article and you'll see it's not just protesters getting hit, it's insurrectionists as well. I'll leave it up to you to determine which are the protesters and which are the insurrectionists. Hint: Taking over an area of a city and declaring it under control of other than the lawfully-elected government is not an insurrection.
""Hint: Taking over an area of a city and declaring it under control of other than the lawfully-elected government is not an insurrection.""
You say Jan 6th was an insurrection because they wanted to prevent the proper ruling authority from taking control. In Seattle, they claimed to have taken control away from the proper ruling authority.
Merriam Webster - : an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government
The taking requires a revolt. A revolt that leads to the taking of territory and absolving the government is pretty much a text book example.
"Charge the witches and the blasphemous! Not those of us fighting against them" - Laird of Stroozle (probably)
This is an actual fucking thing? I think I just rolled my eyes so hard they're stuck.
"A Festival of Confirmation Bias" is a more accurate descriptor.
A new intelligence report lends support to the idea that COVID-19's roots lie not in a seafood market but with researchers at a scientific lab. But... the media are still bitterly divided over what to make of it."
I'll bet.
Those pieces of garbage spent a year calling anyone who speculated that it was created "racist", and kicking actual virologists off Twitter and Facebook for saying as much.
You mean the Chinese virus?
Communist Chinese Virus, to be specific; there is another.
So, soccer fans in the UK are being allowed to start attending games again, and while it's much more fun to watch games with fans in the stands, let's face it, fans are unpredictable. Sometimes they think and say things that haven't been approved beforehand--and that is, of course, when progressive government needs to step in and start arresting people.
"Fans at the Molineux booed as players took the knee before the game started, and Ferdinand tweeted after the game that he had been subjected to racist abuse . . . .
to the Wolves fan who has just been thrown out for doing a monkey chant at me. You need to be dismissed from football & educated. Come meet me & I will help you understand what it feels like to be racially abused!"
The West Midlands Police's official account replied to Ferdinand's tweet and confirmed the fan had been arrested: "The fan has been arrested and is currently in custody. We DO NOT tolerate racist abuse."
----ESPN
https://www.espn.com/soccer/manchester-united-engman_utd/story/4393173/fan-at-wolves-vs-manchester-united-arrested-for-racially-abusing-rio-ferdinand
So, yeah, while the pandemic was going, and fans weren't allowed in the stands, the players started taking a knee to protest against racism in the UK, just like American football players do in the NFL. But just like singing the national anthem gives players the opportunity to be provocative by taking a knee, so does players taking a knee give fans the opportunity to be provocative by booing the players for it. Some of the fans might even go way too far and call someone something racist.
Maybe you think it's a good thing that people who believe awful things, and say awful things in public, are identified on video and arrested by the police so they can be reeducated. Obviously, if the ultimate cause of so many of our social problems is what's in people's minds, then the government needs to step in and fix their thoughts. Unfortunately, civil rights groups throughout the UK are extremely upset with the government over the Nineteen Eighty-Four aspects of this, and leftist groups have planned protests against this action all over the country.
Just kidding. Using the coercive power of government to police our thoughts is smack in the middle of progressive ideology. After all, using the coercive power of government to force us to make sacrifices for the benefit of others is what being progressive is all about. In this case, they want people to sacrifice their right to say, think, and feel what they like, and if using the government to do that is inconsistent with the principles of liberty and justice, they really don't care. That's another reason why progressives are among the world's most horrible people.
"After all, using the coercive power of government to force us to make sacrifices for the benefit of others is what being progressive is all about."
Something about omelettes and eggs?
soccer is never fun to watch.
It's exciting to be in the stands though. That's where 90% of the action occurs. Like nothing I've ever encountered at North American sporting events.
I went to a soccer game in Mexico, and it was a blast.
I probably wouldn't watch a game on TV.
P.S. I hear bullfights on acid is a bad idea. Don't believe the hype!
That's just because you don't understand the beauty of a sport that routinely ends in 0-0 ties. /sarc
After saying something at a soccer match that government deems unacceptable, the thought police will ensure that You’ll Never Walk Alone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITDM-nurRC8
I watched the Real Madrid v Manchester and Real Madrid vs Chelsea matches. OMG.....can you say boooooorrrrrring? With nobody in the stands, it was like watching a high school soccer game.
Fans could be a lot more provocative just by not buying tickets to the games.
These days, it's been turned against racial justice protesters and protesters on the far right.
These days it's been turned against good people and a few really bad people.
ENB is seems to be the perfect example of the product of our education system.
Right wing: Bad... BAAAAAAD.
Left Wing: Good, sometimes passionate, but they mean well.
Right wing: Bad… BAAAAAAD.
In terms of the Jan. 6 protestors, I'm trying to think of the most charitable explanation that I can of why they decided to storm the Capitol. They wanted to protect the integrity of the vote... by going into Congress while in session and persuading Mike Pence to overturn the legal votes of millions?
In terms of the racial justice protestors, I disagree with many of their tactics, I absolutely disagree with the riots and the violence, I disagree with a lot of their proposed 'solutions', but I absolutely do believe that the overall cause is just. There ARE racial disparities in this country that need to be addressed.
In terms of the Jan. 6 protestors, I disagree with their tactics and the violence as well, but moreover, their cause wasn't even just. Overturn the legal votes of millions, subvert democracy itself, in order to keep Trump in power? How is this anything but a self-serving partisan cause? What is the higher cause that they were trying to serve? "Make America Great Again by destroying democracy"?
The two sides are not the same on this matter.
In terms of the Jan. 6 protestors, I’m trying to think of the most charitable explanation that I can of why they decided to storm the Capitol.
To protest what they thought was a rigged election.
They wanted to protect the integrity of the vote… by going into Congress while in session and persuading Mike Pence to overturn the legal votes of millions?
Who knows what they thought they'd actually accomplish. What did BLM protesters wish to accomplish when they uhh, "clashed with Secret Service at the White House".
I absolutely disagree with the riots and the violence, I disagree with a lot of their proposed ‘solutions’, but I absolutely do believe that the overall cause is just. There ARE racial disparities in this country that need to be addressed.
The point of my comment wasn't to disagree that "Right Wing" is bad, it's that there is a problem in public discourse-- and particularly with the left (and I'm far from the first one to point it out):
Most people (of many political persuasions, including people on the right) seem to agree that there's a point that if you go too far right, that you'll have a problem.
But no one seems to be able to work out when the left goes too far. You can seem to just move left and left and left and left and left and left and left... and at the end of it there's no gulag.
And this plays out in how the journalist class describe protesters.
They're very quick to throw out "far right" (including when there's no evidence that a person or group is far right-- just that they disagree with the sensibilities of the journalist making the charge), but it's vanishingly rare that a group or person is described as "far left". It's always "far right" and "social justice activists". And this post bears that out.
Good fisking of chemjeff.
Why not just mute him instead?
I have a double criteria for the mute button.
1) Must not care whether they're wrong or right.
2) Has rejected numerous attempts to persuade of the importance of reason and logic.
I don't see anything of value to be gained by interacting them. They're not even good for batting practice.
They’re not even good for batting practice.
This produced excellent images in my mind , perhaps different from what you suggested.
2) Has rejected numerous attempts to persuade of the importance of reason and logic.

Cry more.
Hardly.
As soon as you've taken whatever line of insanity you're pushing as far as it will go, you immediately move the goalposts or try to change the subject.
But that's what your paid for, so kudos? I guess.
"Why not just mute him instead?"
Because chemjeff is a lolcow. Not as much fun as sarcasmic and White Mike, but still good for some sport.
What's fun with him is how orthodox he is, and how he gets flustered as soon as he finds himself off script.
For a paid commenter he's not worth his paycheck.
I only use the criteria of abusive personal attacks and outright racism/antisemitism.
Other than that I don’t see the point if you just ban people who do not agree. Then you are just preaching to yourself.
This too.
"I don’t see the point if you just ban people who do not agree."
You need to work on your reading comprehension.
I have a double criteria for the mute button.
"1) Must not care whether they’re wrong or right.

----Ken Shultz
Which part of that says I mute them because they do not agree?
“You need to work on your reading comprehension.”
I appreciate that advice. It is very helpful from an expert in “reason and logic”.
So you do, in fact, see that I said nothing about muting people because they don't agree with me?
Well, one side advocates for policies that are commonplace in western Europe, while the other side advocates for the whims of one man. The two sides are not symmetric. It's kind of a stretch to describe a proposal for, say, free community college, is "far left" when that actually happens in other advanced countries and they are not communist hellholes.
There are kooks and whackos in every mass movement, including both Team Red and Team Blue, but in the case of Team Blue, the kooks and whackos are mostly sidelined while in the case of Team Red, the kooks and whackos are driving the bus. Even if Biden were to get the entire of his agenda enacted unchanged, it is still (a) not Bernie Sanders' agenda, and (b) about where Western Europe was 20 years ago. How is this "far left"?
Why do you suppose so many people left Western Europe to live here?
You mean, 100-200 years ago? Or recently?
The Western European welfare state is a rather modern thing, by the way.
For example, Britain has completely socialized health care, and Germany has completely free college. Are those nations "far left"? Are they on the verge of turning into communist hellholes?
The reason why proposals like "free health care" or "free college" aren't treated as "far left", is because in the big picture, they really aren't. They are a part of mainstream liberal policies. It doesn't mean they are good ideas. It just means that we should accurately describe what they are and not complain when they aren't given a scary label that they don't deserve.
"For example, Britain has completely socialized health care, and Germany has completely free college. Are those nations “far left”? Are they on the verge of turning into communist hellholes?"
Which explains a whole lot of the reason you’re seen as a lying pile of lefty shit.
"...It’s kind of a stretch to describe a proposal for, say, free community college, is “far left”..."
Which explains a whole lot of the reason you're seen as a lying pile of lefty shit.
Well, one side advocates for policies that are commonplace in western Europe, while the other side advocates for the whims of one man.
Trying to storm the palace of the ruler sort of went out in western Europe after the Paris Commune.
It worked for the Serbs.
Yeah, but that's the east, they haven't been completely de-nutted by western liberalism yet.
The squad is hardly sidelined.
And, I've got news for you. Community colleges ain't "free". You're just advocating for somebody else pays.
Just like every "free" thing the squad and, others of the same mindset, has supported.
It's long been shown that free shit begets lousy results. Having skin in the game is much more successful.
"...I’m trying to think of the most charitable explanation that I can of why they decided to storm the Capitol..."
Let's see, we've got the well poisoned and the strawman right out front.
And you claim to wonder why people see you as a lying pile of leefty shit...

Do all of these people deserve to be shot in the face?
Well, they are trespassing on public property....
It seems odd that the Pentagon is openly discussing UFO's - time was all that stuff was classified either because they knew it was some of our experimental aircraft or they feared that it might be Soviet experimental aircraft and we didn't want to admit that the Soviets may have something that we didn't even know what it was. Now we're openly admitting that there's stuff out there flying around advanced enough that we don't even know what it is - because there's no military we have to be worried about that might have anything more advanced than our stuff? The only military that might be working on advanced technology would be the Chinese, and we're not worried about them, we're best buddies with China!
Not sure why you assumed the only advanced technology would be China.
The dark net has done a pretty good job on successful hacks for instance. And, a lot of that is traced to Eastern Europe.
"A new intelligence report lends support to the idea that COVID-19's roots lie not in a seafood market but with researchers at a scientific lab."
"I WONDER IF THE CONSTANT GASLIGHTING WILL EVER BITE US IN THE ASS?? NAH, WE'RE TOO CLEVER. WE'RE JOURNALISTS DAMNIT"
Note to conspiratards: That a virus originated in a lab does NOT mean it was manufactured by humans. The lab could have merely been investigating a the virus. After all, that's what labs are for.
Its' not that I trust China. I most certainly do not. But there is no evidence that they or anyone else engineered this virus.
"Note to conspiratards: That a virus originated in a lab does NOT mean it was manufactured by humans. The lab could have merely been investigating a the virus. After all, that’s what labs are for."
Note to assholes who spout the 'proper' line: It does not take a 'conspiracy' to understand that the WuFlu might well have leaked out of a lab financed in part by US tax dollars, regardless of whether is was intended or not.
"There is no evidence that they or anyone else engineered this virus."
This is either incredibly ignorant or willfully obtuse.
There is publicly available and independently verifiable research published by Shi Zhengli from the Wuhan Virology Institute detailing how she and her team engineered coronaviruses from a thousand viruses they collected from bats in southern China. In her published research, she details how she engineered coronaviruses from these specimens with gain of function procedures. These were the viruses she used in Fauci's NIAID funded research to make her engineered viruses transmissible to humans.
You can say that there isn't any absolutely conclusive evidence that covid-19 was engineered in a lab, but there is evidence that it was engineered in a lab, and the fact that at least three of employees at the Wuhan Virology Institute were hospitalized with viral infections in November of 2020 is even more evidence in favor of the engineered virus hypothesis than there was before.
To say that there is no evidence that covid-19 was engineered in a lab is factually incorrect.
"Researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, led by China’s leading expert on bat viruses, Shi Zheng-li or “Bat Lady,” mounted frequent expeditions to the bat-infested caves of Yunnan in southern China and collected around a hundred different bat coronaviruses.
Shi then teamed up with Ralph S. Baric, an eminent coronavirus researcher at the University of North Carolina. Their work focused on enhancing the ability of bat viruses to attack humans so as to “examine the emergence potential (that is, the potential to infect humans) of circulating bat CoVs [coronaviruses].” In pursuit of this aim, in November 2015 they created a novel virus by taking the backbone of the SARS1 virus and replacing its spike protein with one from a bat virus (known as SHC014-CoV). This manufactured virus was able to infect the cells of the human airway, at least when tested against a lab culture of such cells.
The SHC014-CoV/SARS1 virus is known as a chimera because its genome contains genetic material from two strains of virus. If the SARS2 virus were to have been cooked up in Shi’s lab, then its direct prototype would have been the SHC014-CoV/SARS1 chimera, the potential danger of which concerned many observers and prompted intense discussion."

Shi's published research paper goes on to discuss how dangerous this research was, and tries to address the ethics of potentially starting a pandemic with her engineered viruses.
And we're supposed to pretend that there's NO EVIDENCE that covid-19 was engineered in a lab?!
That's ridiculous.
The evidence for covid-19 being engineered in a lab is not yet conclusive. It's still possible that the virus jumped species naturally--by doing backflips through a series of hoops. However, the evidence for the engineered hypothesis is piling up by the day.
And the funding from Fauci's NIAID to make these viruses transmissible to humans was reckless and foolish--regardless of whether that was the source of the pandemic.
This is shit science. From my understanding the research we were originally doing was to discover if any existing wild viruses had the potential to naturally cross species. This was to find and predict and plan for the next pandemic.
Deliberately changing a virus to attack humans only has one potential function. The creation of a bio weapon. If you ask the question, "can we manipulate this virus to attack humans using all of the tools we have available. " The answer will always be, "yes, yes we can."
There isn't any reason to go there.
The reason to make a virus transmissible to humans is so that you can study the effects on humanized mice--mice that are engineered with human cells in their respiratory and digestive systems, etc. If you wanted to study how the virus attacks human cells, you might want to make it transmissible to human cells.
That isn't to say that there aren't serious risks and ethical questions about those risks, and whether research could be used to create a bioweapon should be funded by U.S taxpayers in China is another question. And there is no question but that this research shouldn't have been funded at a lab with a terrible safety record.
It isn't necessary to assume nefarious motives. Simple incompetence by government bureaucrats will more than suffice, and it may be that exposing bureaucratic incompetence should be the primary goal here. Exposing Dr. Fauci, one of their preferred elite experts, as too incompetent to make choices on our behalf, may be what progressives fear most.
Progressives want us to believe that we're not smart enough to make choices for ourselves, and libertarianism is all about people being free to make choices for themselves without interference from government bureaucrats like Dr. Fauci.
"It isn’t necessary to assume nefarious motives."
True but it is entirely rational to consider the possibility.
I hope we don't get distracted.
The publicly available evidence of incompetence is already overwhelming. People that keep looking for evidence of nefarious motives are likely to miss that.
And my primary concern is that expert bureaucrats like Fauci and the NIH aren't making our choices for us, aren't organizing our economy, etc., etc.
Serial passaging.
This has been a recurring theme over the last half decade or more. The media will flatly state that there is no evidence these days, often using the phrase "claimed without evidence".
Often this means the exact opposite, that there is quite a bit of evidence.
Just to make everything political, I'll point out the examples of evidence of Biden's corruption. In the Ukraine we had him bragging about getting a prosecutor fired. This was weird because why in the world would the vice president of the United States make threats to get some prosecutor fired? We also had his son getting millions of dollars and a cush job that he was unqualified for working for a company being investigated by this prosecutor. Yet the media is still tagged this as "claimed without evidence". This side of Marion Barry, there has rarely been more evidence. But, sure, no evidence.
The same thing happened with the Biden laptop. It had the guy who received the laptop. The contents of the laptop. People who's emails were on the laptop confirmed that the emails were accurate. And you had a couple of the co-conspirators confirming the meaning of the emails and the intention of funneling money. Yet every mainstream media organization in the United States used the phrase "without evidence" and the label "unverified."
They really just don't care at this point. We have the CDC contradicting itself within 24 hours repeatedly, and anyone who disagrees with the CDC position is banned from all social media for spreading disinformation. It is like Joseph Heller meets George Orwell.
It's all about "noble lies".
They think the world would be a better place if people believed what they were told because that makes them more likely to do what they're told.
Plato had this nailed 2,400 years ago.
P.S. Correction: I wrote that she collected a thousand viruses, but it was actually a hundred.
You need to keep up. Start getting your news from other than MSNBC and CNN
""Note to conspiratards: That a virus originated in a lab does NOT mean it was manufactured by humans. The lab could have merely been investigating a the virus. After all, that’s what labs are for.""
Isn't the so called conspiracy about believing it came from the lab?
So what?
After it leaked, the Red Chinese tried to cover it up - and then sent infected people all over the world to spread it as much as possible.
The Russians almost certainly didn't intend for Chernobyl to happen. But that doesn't make them any less culpable.
At this point, Occam's Razor is coming down even more heavily on the side of 'engineered in and leaked from Wuhan lab' than it is on the side of 'Epstein didn't kill himself.'
Not that lab.
And, there is some evidence of engineering in the virus. At least a couple of top researchers have said so.
The evidence is in the publicly available and independently verifiable applications for NIH funding--that was approved.
There is no need to take top researchers word for it. Even if they said there wasn't evidence, the evidence would be there anyway.
As an aside: Where did Brandybuck go? He disappeared from this thread he started pretty quickly. Fauci gets harder to defend by the day.
In regards to cryptocurrency prices falling, it has almost nothing to do with Tesla or Musk and mostly to do with the Chinese government cracking down on currency mining, trading, holding, etc. A huge portion of the mining for cryptocurrency comes from China, a huge portion of it is traded in China, and that regulation is disrupting the whole marke.t
China is cracking down on cryptocurrency for a number of reasons. For one, they're worried about mining it using so much electricity, driving demand for electricity to undesirable highs, driving the demand for coal, etc. For another, they're worried about being subject to a bubble in cryptocurrency bursting and putting stress on the financial system. They're letting air out of the bubble.

If you were smart you bought the dip!
“the prevailing theory”
You misspelled narrative. Simple mistake I’m sure.
What's even more fascinating is the census and other data about Chinese deaths the past year. Just from sources other than lying communists shits, it could be over 10 million just from the virus alone. But of course it will have to stay in conspiracy theory or hypothesis until the wet truth hits everyone in the face because our news media and social media are not American companies in any real sense and so they protect their true masters.
This summary of the Corona virus controversy leaves out some important details.
A research team of virologists and epidemiologists in China investigated the origins of the virus in the fall of 2019 and issued their report in January of 2020. In it they discount the possibility that it originated in the wet market. They say they interviewed dozens of people who work there and the species of bat that carries covid-19 was never sold there.
The species of bat is also not found within hundreds of miles of this area. There are, however, two research institutions who were working on that species of bat and on Corona viruses at the time. They are located within blocks of the wet market.
This research team published a report claiming that the virus escaped from these laboratories.
This is a Chinese team working in China with connections to the Chinese virology community and having deep understanding of Coronavirus research.
Yet because The Chinese and government insisted, the world Health organization declared the wet market story to be the one and only truth. The CDC followed suit.
These researchers made further claims, that the virus itself was the result of gain of function research and it's virulence is due to this research.
I don't know how much of that is accurate, but they seem to believe it. What I do know is that nobody has been allowed to investigate those claims here in the West. In fact, we set up a commission to investigate the origins of the coronal virus and we put the guy who funded that gain of function research in charge of the commission.
Guess what the commission determined? You guessed it!
They determined that the research that he funded had nothing to do with it and it did not come from the labs that he funded.
Up until the moment that Fauci expressed doubts, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook would ban posts expressing similar doubts.
This story is a tangled mess, and a big portion of it is the political collusion of media companies in the United States. With such wide reaching suppression on the expression of dissenting ideas, getting to the bottom of this has been delayed by many, many months.
If the covid-19 strain escaped from a lab in China, this should be relatively easy to determine. And no, testing the workers for covid-19 exposure is not the way to do it. They clearly worked on several man-made strains at the laboratory. The sequence of those is likely known. As is the sequence of covid-19. Any relationship between these strains would be fairly easy to determine.
And whatever does eventually come to light, will it even get any press here in the US? You cannot take Trump out of this equation, and MSM is not going to report anything that would not put him in a bad light. Or conservatives in general, for that matter.
Cyto, the bottom line is that Red China must pay a severe, existential price for their perfidy. It starts with arming Taiwan with nukes, and recognizing their independence. It ends with China shattered.
Fine, you send your children to invade China.
Who said invade, fuckwad?
Where exactly do you think all your saber-rattling and your provocations will lead, huh?
330 million vs 1.4 billion?
Hardly. Our military is actually brighter than that.
Asymmetrical warfare much more likely.
China is huge and has a large population. In a nuclear exchange the odds of Taiwan surviving is zero. China could afford to lose a few million people and still go on.
Besides China doesn’t want to destroy Taiwan. They want that productive piece of real estate.
In a conventional war China could defeat Taiwan and I do not think the US could or would save them. The only scenario would be if the Chinese did a Pearl Harbor and launched a pre emptive attack on our bases in the area.
A nuclear-armed Taiwan gives any country pause. China backs off.
"In a nuclear exchange the odds of Taiwan surviving is zero. China could afford to lose a few million people and still go on."
Substitute 9 digits of deaths for "a few million." At least four of five of the major cities, plus whoever gets inundated by a released TGD reservoir. Even China would feel those losses. More importantly, the guys calling the shots in China would feel it.
There isn't going to be an overt invasion unless the Chinese are completely drunk on how good their military is.
When this story first came out last year I said that it was complete garbage.
Why did I say that?
Because they had the full sequence of the virus. And they had the sequences of the research viruses.
So there was no way that it could possibly have come from that laboratory experiment without them knowing it. So if the CDC said that it absolutely did not come from that laboratory, they had to know what they were talking about. It was provable science at that point. You could just look at the lineage of the virus and determine whether it was the same as the laboratory version.
That was before I knew they were lying. Now things are much different. Now I know that the folks at the CDC actually do question whether or not it came from the laboratory. They told me they didn't question that and that you were insane to question it a year ago. Now they question it. That tells me they were lying a year ago. Because the DNA sequences of these strains did not change over the course of the last year.
And it isn't like these people don't know this stuff. I mean, fauci is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, But he certainly understands science and virology well enough to have known that.
And I had no reason to suspect that the United States would be colluding with China to cover up the origin of the virus. Because they did not tell me that the research at these institutes was being funded by the US in a collaboration with American researchers.
Suddenly the incentives look very different for the US healthcare establishment. Suddenly they have a stake in the game.
So I was wrong last year. Whether or not the virus came from those labs, I made the assumption that American researchers were not flat out lying. I figured that if they said they had looked at the sequence of the virus and it was not from those labs they were telling the truth. It turns out that that may have been a bad assumption, even if the virus didn't come from those labs.
Fauci personally has quite a bad history on this stuff, so I should have known better with him. But I wasn't primarily relying on him. There were other high-level American scientists who were saying the same thing. It turns out that they were the ones doing the research with these labs. Oops. I guess I should have checked my sources better.
Daszak was being mentioned by people like me a year ago, Cyto. It wasn't a secret. He was a co-author with Shi on a bunch of her papers.
The only difference between then and now, is then, the pandemic could be used to hammer Trump, but only if it weren't tainted by being of artificial, Chinese origin. Now, it doesn't matter if people know the thing came out of a Chinese lab. Biden isn't going to do shit about it.

It's pretty obvious in hindsight what was plausible but not verifiable on normal media sources--that the virus leaked out of a lab in Wuhan, and the bureaucracies of the US health industry colluded with the Chinese government to cover it up in the hope that they could squash its origins while it was going global.
Since the news media are all but admitting now that this was leaked, it means one of two things--that China deliberately released it in to the wild, because they can kill 100 million of their own people without a second's thought while other nations are going to get cornholed; or it was an accident, and the US, CDC, and WHO have helped them cover it up because it undermined the "CHINA NUMBAH ONE!" narrative that's always coming out of there, and because the US in particular would end up being implicated in it for funding the research in such a shitty lab to begin with.
The fact that China shut down internal travel but let people go on international travel is evidence of actual harmful intent. In a globe that wasn't full of powers that are neutered cucks, Beijing, Wuhan, and ever other major Chinese city and military complex would be radiated smoking craters, and every US government official that colluded with them would either lose their jobs at best, or get lined up for lead delivery services in Minecraft at worst.
"In a globe that wasn’t full of powers that are neutered cucks, Beijing, Wuhan, and ever other major Chinese city and military complex would be radiated smoking craters..."
They likely have in excess of a thousand ICBMs. My guess is closer to 3: they have serious nuclear armed potential enemies in the US, Russia, and maybe India. They aren't getting nuked without whoever does it suffering some serious pain.
Agree with you on the deserved fate for those in the US industrial and political decisionmaking realm who've been selling out the US to China for the last 30 years. Instead, we continue to 'elect' them and help them consolidate their power.
Oh, and my vote has been and continues to be, "Accident, but exacerbated deliberately, once containment was shown to be doomed."
Alternately, how does what actually happened, differ from how that Gates Foundation exercise in 2019 concluded?
There's supposedly some creepy interview with him from a couple years ago where he smiles at the mention of a bioweapon being released.
This dude is the end result of giving Malthusians too much money and power, rather than stuffing them in a barrel and throwing them in the ocean.
I've not seen it, but it doesn't surprise me.
It is an answer, no matter how horrific, to the question of, "How will we find something to do for that group of our population that can't function within a society that requires an ever increasing IQ to be able to contribute?
I've said here before that the gene-tailored plagues (serious ones, too) begin when self-repairing and building, weakly AI-autonomous robots begin to come online. Say, IQ around 85-equivalent, and easily rechargeable. Replacements for all of that mass of humanity that otherwise has to be housed and ordered to consume.
For people like Gates, most of humanity is a liability. Not merely an annoyance.
Funny how it's coming out now that the guy is apparently a total sociopath who hung out with Epstein, now that Melinda is taking off.
They got me too. I wasn't going to analyze those RNA sequences myself, so I took their words for where and to what extent concordances existed.

These UFOs also go underwater. Flying submarines have been a Skunk Works project for years. They call it the Cormorant and the project went dark just when they were near done with it.
Strange weather, volcanos, violence in the streets, horned men assaulting the Capitol, a mysterious virus shutting down the world economy.
There is something going on. It is all connected somehow.
Are they flying submarines, or submersible planes? I prefer the latter.
The article I saw said the idea was it would fly to the target, dive underwater and launch torpedos. Then it would turn around, surface, and fly back.
Cool idea. I’m sure Batman has one.
They are connected, all the stupid evil shit starts with humans.
Yes. No other species regularly engages in self destruction like us.
Lemmings.
This is where we remind everyone that echospinner has spent the last year insulting anybody who brought up the possibility of covid lab origin
"new life" hahahaha
It was always obvious to anyone who spent one minute thinking about it that the virus came from the lab down the street from the supposed location china claimed.
A lab that studies coronaviruses within walking distance of the supposed ground zero. Please. We knew where it came from day 1.
They weren't just studying coronaviruses. That's the first fact that begs the question.

Right now, Trump is thinking, "why didn't I think of that?"
LOL, you NeverTrumpers are more obsessed with him than the people that voted for him.
It's not called TDS for nothing!
Because Hillary didn't get the nod?
And bats are somehow mixed up in this.
True story. In WW2 a man named Lytle S Adams came up with the idea of weaponizing bats to use against Japan. The project was approved and called Operation X Ray.
The bats were fitted with small incendiary bombs and thousands encased in a bomb like device which could be dropped and release the bats causing fires to break out.
For some reason they never used it but you never know the boundaries of weird.
And Joe Biden is a hologram. The real Joe Biden is in a nursing home in Maine.
I knew it!
If Joe Biden was a holagram wouldn't they make him coherent?
They'd have to have China set up a lab that could enhance the holagram so that he appeared sentient.
The system was tested at Dugway Proving Grounds on replica Japanese homes.

Still masked — and not looking like one of ‘those’ people
BY JOLINE GUTIERREZ KRUEGER / JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
Note that this psychotic got the vaccine several months ago, but still needs to wear her face diaper out of nothing more than virtue signaling.
You mean like all of those people here in the comment forums who, months ago, proudly proclaimed that they weren't going to wear no masks because they don't want to "submit to tyranny"? That kind of virtue-signaling?
Yes. And I have no problem saying that I prefer people signaling that they won't submit to tyranny and fear than people signaling that they want more tyranny and fear. This pathological attachment to face diapers is not healthy and should not be encouraged. You are damn right I'm signaling. Because I care about the future of our civilization and I don't want anyone to live their life like that.
But sometimes, wearing a mask isn't signaling. Maybe it is just being nice to others. Like holding open doors for strangers.
Take a look at the picture at the top of this article. Are they wearing “cloth face coverings”?
Most of us don't work in BSL-4 laboratories. What is your point?
They should have been issuing suits like that to all of us.
And sometimes it's because you have to if you want to go to work or shop at a store.
I really think that masks are mostly giving people a false sense of security. The effectiveness was way oversold. People may well be exposing themselves to more risk because they believe the mask propaganda. If they are effective, it is marginal. If I am correct about that, and I think there is a lot of reason to believe that I am, then wearing a mask to " be polite" or make people feel safe is not doing them any favor but reinforces false and basically superstitious beliefs.
Didn't even Fauci say that masks could make it worse? That they cause people to touch their faces all the time potentially bringing the virus closer to their respiratory system?
It's just all so confusing.
So, when in doubt, do whatever they say and do it forever!
Yeah, that's the ticket!
Next stop: In the fight against AIDS and other STDs, the CDC has ordered people to stop having sex. Immediately!
Your continued simping for your lefty boos is noted, Fat Boy. Wipe the pizza crumbs off your bloated gunt and write something with an actual point.
the vaccine can protect me from COVID, but it cannot protect me from stupid/selfish people
Uhh. I'm pretty sure the mask won't protect you from stupid selfish people any more than the vaccine will.
I will say, a good part of my general unwillingness to wear masks if I can help it is so that I am not mistaken for one of those people.
I have seen that some women actually prefer it. It gives them a kind of invisibility and they don’t get hassled or judged by their looks. Sounds kinda weird but whatever.
I do it where required or if all of the employees are as a courtesy.
I feel confident that this will go away sooner rather than later. Israel is down to a dozen cases a day and they are dropping everything.
Of course their could be another spike down the road but hopefully we can handle that.
Jabs in arms.
I feel confident that this will go away sooner rather than later. Israel is down to a dozen cases a day and they are dropping everything.
Some states were at that point a long time ago.
Are you hanging out with hajib wearers or something?
Masking has saved me a bunch of time shaving. Can't deny those little silver linings.
All these attempts to cast Trump and his supporters to be more authoritarian than they obviously are strike me as so much concern trolling of libertarians.
Is it not evident that many of the supposed cultural issues — specifically those revolving around freedom of expression as well as support in the private sector for free expression — are instrumental to, not distractions from progress on fiscal matters? How are we going to make progress on the smaller government front if we don't have the freedom to argue for it, and don't have the outlets that let us do so?
It's not new.
Goldwater and other conservatives got the same kind of treatment from media many years ago. Enough so, that many of us stupid youth equated conservatism with the KKK and such ilk.
A bit of growing up and actually looking back, we can now see how stupidly we let ourselves be led by the media and mob rule of the day.
Saturday I was at a rally of a candidate seeking the Republican nomination for governor of NJ. His plan was "ABC":
Autonomy of the family
Business freedom
Core values
He was also pro-Trump. Obviously the A and B are pro-liberty. C is a mixed bag, basically having to do with cultural issues in government, which seemed about equal parts pro- and anti-liberty from the brief take he gave on it. So score this overall 2.5 out of 3, or 84% pro-freedom. So if Trumpists are an inferior choice for libertarians, I'm not seeing it.
Autonomy of the family
Business freedom
Core values
Well since these are slogans, not detailed policy proposals, it's hard to judge how "pro-liberty" they really are. Does "autonomy of the family" mean "punish residential arrangements that don't conform to the right-wing ideal of the nuclear family"? Does "business freedom" mean "give subsidies to businesses that I like"?
"autonomy of the family” means keeping the government from regulating family matters outside of protecting individuals from physical harm.
"business freedom” means reducing regulations on private industry that the government does not own so that the owners can run them efficiently.
Nice, negative spin on what many see as positive affirmations of freedom. You really ought to lighten up. Some here could easily spin left wing mantra into negative tropes as easily.
No, they don't. Did you really think I would deliberately obscure ideas like that in this forum?
"...candidate seeking the Republican nomination for governor of NJ."
I was much more a TomorrowLand kid than FantasyLand.
Chris Christie managed 60% of the vote just eight years ago. It really shouldn't be so hard against Murphy since he's the same disaster every Democratic governor save Codey has been, but now that all politics is national you're probably right.
Things have changed a little over the last eight years. I will heartily laugh if with you though if the GOP candidate manages to win in Jersey.
Which one? I liked parts of both Ciattarelli and Singh's platforms in 2017 (ultimately voting for the latter), but from the little it of reading I've done they both seem to have become deranged by the Trump era, in opposite ways.
In regards to UFO’s there are two things happening: for one, the military (which is the progenitor of all ufo’s) is conditioning us to believe in them for whatever nefarious reason they’ve got up their sleeve, and two, they are worried that their hologram technology (which is the producer of most all UFO’s) has been fully developed in other countries that aren’t under US control, namely, China and Russia.
What this means is, China could start using holograms to trick Americans and send a message that undermines the US military’s program.
"hey guys, we're not gonna get everyone to cower inside again because of the cold virus. what should we use next?"
My thoughts exactly after reading Granite's post.

The Royal Fuckups are going to go with whatever explanation saves the most face. In the early going that was the wet market but that explanation means the virii are winning on their own and exposes the inadequacy of government health departments/ministries.
An accidental or even deliberate release from a lab puts the problem back on specific persons and lessens the culpability of the failed quixotic, even hubristic, Progressive ideal of government by experts.

"I’m not interested in being one more person on the internet claiming to know exactly what’s going on with all this, but I do know there’s an exactly zero percent chance that all this is coming out into the mainstream spotlight because the US war machine suddenly decided that the public has a right to know about a potentially dangerous security threat. The Pentagon did not spontaneously evolve an interest in radical transparency, and it is not coincidental that this is happening as we hurtle into a new multi-front cold war and an accompanying race to weaponize space.
As I’ve said before, the simplest and most likely explanation for all this UFO stuff is that the US military is manipulating us yet again to advance yet another strategic agenda. I’m not saying that’s necessarily the full story, but it’s definitely happening."
Yeah I don't know whether UFOs are evidence of intelligent life but I do know that this newfound transparency on the part of the federal government is not what it seems. This is happening for a reason and is being orchestrated for maximum exposure by the MSM. The deep state has an agenda and whatever it is, it won't be good.
"racial justice protesters"
come on man
you burn down a few billions dollars' worth of businesses with the complicity of local DAs and suddenly it's a federal case?
they hardly murdered anyone, over 99% of protests involved no murder at all, just good-natured burning and light-hearted looting
good for Reason taking such a brave, principled stand against this injustice
In all of this comment about escaping from the lab not one about the deliberate release from the lab for some reason.!
20 months in a small county and there was 314 dead people from a terrible dangerous disease
It seems likely to me that Covid19 could have been accidentally released from the Wuhan lab due to crap procedures and general incompetence. I have thought that over the past year, but have been reserved about my “fringe” belief. Of course, the Chinese will deny it forever. Too bad Trump was so busy lying about many many things, so that the few reasonable things he said got bagged with all the other BS. However, just because the Covid Clusterfuck was probably caused by China doesn’t justify any of the Republican stupidity about dealing with Covid. And claiming that death tolls were all exaggerated because this is just a cold! Guess the last year has been a harsh lesson to anyone who bought that line of BS. And yes, the Democrats are being too cautious at this point, but oh well… The media as a whole seems to be avoiding discussing this possibility, due to avoid looking like nut jobs, but maybe the tide is turning on this issue. Obviously the more right wing media, like Fox, will lead such stories first, but I haven’t seen a lot of that yet. Just a life stories on Fox and this article. They seem to still be obsessed with the past election and the current border crisis. In any case, if the other nations in the world get some cojones, we can try and squeeze China for reparations. But they will never pay. China will just say no, it came from a market, and everything else is fake news. We live in the post truth era.
I saw it! Goldwater and other conservatives got the same kind of treatment from media many years ago. Enough so, that many of us stupid youth equated conservatism with the KKK and such ilk.
Please for the love of your choice of deity or the hate of Sithrak, please Elizabeth Nolan Brown, this molecular biologist begs you to distinguish between ESCAPED from a lab vs. MADE in a lab. They are not equivalent and one does not imply the other. Failing to do so only fans the flames of the stupid so much in evidence in the world and the slice of it in the comments section here. Please don't fuel it.
The intelligence report is consistent with and suggests that the virus causing COVID-19 could have ESCAPED from (aka 'leaked') the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WiV) . Meaning that the virus found its way from infected WiV staff into the population of Wuhan at large and then spread around the world.
The intelligence report provides no indication (as in zero, zilch, nada, none) that the virus was MADE in the WiV. Meaning that the staff of the WiV deliberately constructed the virus either to do gain of function research or for bioweaponization. Or rather, there is no evidence FOR it being made. The viral sequence contains no signs of either human intellectual input in its build, nor any of the carry-overs and clues in the genome sequence of molecular cloning techniques that would be used to build it. There it nothing about it that is even suggestive of it being human made, let alone indicative. The most human manipulation that is consistent with observations would be potential selective pressure due to serial passaging through cell lines. But that is just because passaging would leave it looking as naturally occurring as it does.
What the intelligence report said was that 3 staff members became ill at the time when COVID appears to have entered the human population in Wuhan. It might be coincidence, three is not all that unusual. But the timing is suspicious. And given what we now know about asymptomatic transmission, it would be likely that if the 3 were sick with COVID, there were many more than 3 infected. This would be consistent with, but is not proof that a coronavirus infected staff, who then carried it out into the community in Wuhan, where it infected people and subsequently spread around the world.
WiV has long conducted surveillance of bat coronaviruses. Scientists from WiV travel to habitats where bats live, take samples that are likely to contain bat coronaviruses, and bring them back to WiV for study. Staff could have been infected while taking samples in bat habitats, or from handling improperly collected or sealed samples, or by making mistakes in working with samples in the lab. Again, due to asymptomatic transmission is is quite possible the first person or people infected didn't have any symptoms and nothing would have seemed unusual.
All of these types of incidents have happened at other labs, including those in the U.S. It is not racist to think that errors that have happened in American labs could happen in Chinese labs too. It is orders of magnitude more likely than the bizarre suggestion by some Chinese officials that the virus really came from the United States. Unlike claims of SARS-Cov2 being made at WiV, all the natural virus lab escape hypothesis requires is that WiV worked on the projects it is known to work on, for scientists to be human, and for the Chinese Communist Party to be preoccupied with controlling things there is little advantage in controlling and covering-up things there is little advantage to covering up. These are hardly large stretches of the imagination.
