Voters Have Defeated a Texas School District's Plan To Punish Students for Microaggressions
The opposition to Southlake's plan was understandable.

Proponents of a plan to mandate new diversity and microaggression monitoring systems suffered crushing electoral losses in Southlake, Texas, on Saturday.
Mainstream reporting on the school board elections for Carroll Independent School District—a total rout for candidates who supported the plan—was extremely negative in tone, all but accusing Southlake voters of endorsing racism. But a quick perusal of the plan suggests that there were perfectly valid reasons to vote against it.
The proposal was conceived in response to two incidents involving Southlake high school students using racial epithets. Neither incident occurred on school property, which limited administrators' ability to respond to them: Hateful speech is protected by the First Amendment, and it is proper to resist the notion that public schools' punitive powers should extend well beyond the campus.
The plan includes some aspects that are benign or even praiseworthy. (There's nothing wrong, for example, with teaching and celebrating other cultures.) But it also instructs schools to track "microaggressions," which it defines as "everyday verbal or nonverbal, snubs or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized or underrepresented group membership." Under the proposal, students who commit such offenses should have them documented in their "discipline offense history."
Many colleges and universities have systems for reporting and tracking microaggressions; for the most part, this has been a disaster. There is widespread disagreement on what counts as a microaggression, including among the minority groups the proposal would supposedly protect. Many students end up reporting each other—as well as faculty and staff members—for relatively harmless or negligible slights. This is baked in to the system, since it's specifically noted that microaggressions can be unintentional. No less than Derald Wing Sue, the Columbia University psychologist who invented the concept of microaggressions, has expressed concerned about education administrators taking his ideas "out of context" and using them in a "punitive way."
High schools keeping files on which kids have inadvertently used language that someone found insensitive? That seems like a recipe for disaster. Students' permanent disciplinary records, after all, can significantly impact their college and job prospects. It's one thing for a school to punish a student for calling another student a racial slur in the classroom. It's quite another to be on the lookout for any alleged microaggression—a concept that in some hands includes innocuously asking where someone is from.

I say go for it. Track the microaggressions. The instant you get your first one sue, sue them for everything they've got. There isn't a legal leg for the district to stand on.
An industrious student would create a system for reporting and tracking microaggressions committed by the teachers and administrators.
"I say go for it. Track the microaggressions. "
i agree with you. Microaggression deserves to be punished. Micropunished. ie looking askance at the micro aggressor. Clicking one's tongue. Eye rolling.
Unsurprisingly feminine post
Thank you.
good one
Yes. I introduced a new word into the English language - micropunish - and did so in a way that was both feminine and unsurprising.
You coined it! Must not be from Canada.
No, not Canadian. They harrumph, furrow brows and promise to vote differently next time.
Well played! Give them the side eye!
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
n00dragon's plan punishes the taxpayers for the transgressions of the woke overlords of the district's schools.
Voting out the actual people pushing this nonsense is by no means punishment enough, but it is at least punishing the right people.
Your post triggered me.Tell me where you are (DM) so I can sue you. Thx.
The proponents should have taken a page out of the Biden playbook: Get elected first, then tack wildly to the left.
Now that they have failed they must be run out of town. Lest they try again.
So if you snub or insult a member of the majority then it's perfectly fine?
Exactly! It doesn't even have to be the majority, just any group that isn't defined as marginalized. And of course marginalized is defined by the woke crowd.
I am offended by people that walk around with their hand on their crotch as if it were a "push to talk" button and their drawers hanging out, are those classified as microaggressions?
Do they also sport a ball cap that is either sideways or backwards? And is one pant leg tucked in?
"No less than Derald Wing Sue, the Columbia University psychologist who invented the concept of microaggressions, has expressed concerned about education administrators taking his ideas "out of context" and using them in a "punitive way."
No sympathy for you, Dr. Frankenstein, you gave us the monster. Maybe like the original Dr. Frankenstein you can dedicate your life to killing your creation?
I don't know that I agree with that sentiment. No one has the ability to see far enough down the road. It'd be a bit like blaming the person who first describes an antioxidant for all the pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo that gets peddled under that label.
The real world is more complicated than that. The group of annoyances that are specific to a subset of people is a perfectly acceptable classification. So the concept that something is a microaggression is not itself invalid. The ascribing them as being horrific aggressions that make living life as a member of a minority class is melodramatic as hell but does not mean the category should not exist as a concept.
But the complexities that arise from having billions of humans interacting with each other can hardly ever be ascribed to the actions of a handful of individuals.
What are some examples of annoyances that are specific to a subset of people? Why is there a need for a new concept to describe them?
Well, "Microaggression" sounds better in a paper than "rudeness", and it does accurately express the way people are sometimes barely tolerated through small slights. the problem is that the concept went out of control. It was supposed to be a discussion about how people are casually rude to out-groups, not a form of insane policing.
Why does anyone need more than 2 brands of deodorant?
I can't think of a single reason, as long as my brand is one of the two brands.
Maybe he can work on a word to describe something between microaggression and macroaggression? Maybe "transaggression?"
There is widespread disagreement on what counts as a microaggression, including among the minority groups the proposal would supposedly protect.
Others othering other others?
>>No less than Derald Wing Sue, the Columbia University psychologist who invented the concept of microaggressions
this dude owes the world a retraction. and chocolate apology cake.
Angel food cake would be more appropriate.
Careful, he may have a lawyer relative named Wei Sue Yoo.
Or a wife named So Sue Mi.
Now I am really triggered.
Opponents of anti-racism education win big in a bitterly divided election in Southlake, Texas. Conservative candidates who opposed a school diversity plan won every local race, taking about 70% of the vote in the wealthy Dallas-Fort Worth suburb.
That was NBC News's tweet. No bias there. The tweets from the leftists there were typically bigoted and ill-informed.
>>Dallas-Fort Worth suburb
Dallas isn't even in the same county, NBC.
Probably too much to expect some coastal 'tard who only knows cities by their airport designation.
As much as it pains me to defend NBC for...well...anything, their use of "Dallas-Fort Worth" with regard to Southlake being a suburb thereof is correct here. It's a standard way of referring to what's known as the "D/FW Metroplex", which is those two cities plus the huge, sprawling complex of cities/towns between and around them.
Yes but any map @NBC would show it's a suburb of Fort Worth ... nobody cares about Fort Worth so it's not a national story unless Dallas gets tied in
Yes but any map @NBC would show it’s a suburb of Fort Worth
Any map @NBC? What the hell is that about? Saying that it's "a suburb of Ft. Worth" just because it's largely in Tarrant Co. (it's also in Denton Co...so it is also a suburb of Denton?) does not make referring to it as a suburb of "Dallas-Ft. Worth" (which simply means that it's one of the D/FW Metroplex 'burbs) any less correct.
I've lived in the area for nearly 30 years, and it's far more common here to refer to such cities as being part of "D/FW" rather than being a suburb of either D or FW individually.
People from St Paul get really touchy when folks don't include them in the Minneapolis-St Paul designation too.
Without Dallas it is Fort Worthless?
When I lived in FW briefly, I always laughed at the rodeo arena being in the "cultural district."
Do you want to talk to Houston about Rodeos being cultural?
Houston is great because you can go watch a rodeo and then grab great Indian food after.
There is nothing great about Indian food.
Ask a hungry Hindu about Indian food. Or a peckish Punjabi.
You mean there aren't any good BBQ joints in Houston?
I guess you have to drive all the way to Austin for places like Franklin BBQ.
Now them's fightin' words right there.
I don't think that's a necessary part of being a suburb. Heck, many metro areas aren't even completely in the same county.
I have no idea whether it is a suburb of Dallas or not.
I'm nitpicking for giggles ... but at the same time Southlake means nothing to Dallas, so county, state, galaxy would all mean the same thing
but at the same time Southlake means nothing to Dallas, so county, state, galaxy would all mean the same thing
Yes, because when we drive the Southlake from Dallas instead of Ft. Worth we think of it like driving to France.
I know you're just nitpicking, but for the record.
The city of Dallas includes parts of 5 Texas counties: Dallas, Collin, Denton, Kaufman and Rockwall. The city of Fort Worth includes parts of 4 Texas counties: Tarrant, Denton, Parker and Wise. The city of Southlake includes parts of 2 Texas counties: Tarrant and Denton.
The suburban status of Southlake from Wikipedia, the ultimate authority on everything: "Southlake is a suburb of Dallas/Fort Worth". Using US Census definitions, Southlake is part of the DFW metropolitan area, and since the DFW metropolitan area has a population of more than 7.5 million, Southlake is in an "Urban Area", in this case the fourth largest urban area in the US.
Shouldn't the term anti-racism be in quotes? you gotta love how the left works with the media to give names to their causes .... "anti-racism"... "black lives matter" antifa (antifascist, yeah sure Mussolini!)
It is meant to confuse the issue and already prejudice any discussion on the topic making meaningful dialogue impossible...
let alone these names being totally disingenuous when one considers the ultimate goals of such organizations have nothing to do with their 'name'.
The vot was between "I will tell you what to think" and "fuck off, slave"
It's one thing for a school to punish a student for calling another student a racial slur in the classroom
So robbie is against the first ammendment
That is hardly speaking truth to power, but this example does provide one more reason that education should not be socialized. Enforcing classroom civility in a socialist educational system may be unconstitutional.
This is a good example of what I mentioned last week about how non-leftists need to drop the whole "I'm too pure to sully my august presence by being involved in the government" pretense, and start getting some skin in the game by participating in grassroots efforts at the local level. This is going to be particularly important in the post-COVID era as the spoiled-ass, brainwashed younger generations start filtering out of universities and DA BIG CITY, and start colonizing lower-cost, low-scale, high-trust communities that they think need to reflect those BIG CITY ways of life and social fabric.
Non-participation is the reason why this bullshit was even considered to begin with. If the left's entryism isn't continually and aggressively nipped in the bud, it eventually turns into a weed that chokes out your community. Go to school board meetings, town council meetings, town/city committee meetings, etc., because this is where it always gets started. Don't get dazzled by these guys waving a bunch of money in your face, because no amount of business growth is worth losing what made your community so appealing in the first place. Make it as difficult as possible for these pricks to establish themselves, and they'll eventually move on elsewhere, because that's what parasites do.
I think it would be awesome to set up a microaggression tracking system for high school girls.
So if a white person turns down a date from some slovenly sob of a "minor culture'' is that racism?.
Yes, but ironically, so is the date request going in the other direction.
It's perfect! Heads I win, tails you lose!
If he gets the tails, he wins too.
So the asshole who came up with the whole bullshit idea now wants nothing to do with it, because academics doesn't apply in the real world and psychology is manipulative garbage anyway.
Yup, because no one has ever had their research misinterpreted by people who would rather use it to peddle their nonsense. Nope, it's clear that the person who first described ions only did so to allow quacks to sell metal wrist bands to create 'negative ion spaces' for their amazing health benefits. Quantum physicists all love Depoke Chopra and his hippie dippie view of the world. Certainly not something that starts as a reasoned rational viewpoint that gets corrupted.
To be fair ion scientists and quantum physicists are studying far harder (in both the literal and metaphoric sense) sciences and have done far less damage to schoolchildren with copper wristbands and Deepak Chopra.
Yep, because coining a term for minor social infractions in the context of grievance studies at the university sociology level is exactly like physics you stupid fucking piece of shit bootlicking Nazi fucking cunt. Kill yourself.
I thought they were actually "singing" a rap song, so the racist would by the lyricist, right?
Typo: "expressed concerned" should be "expressed concerns"
Does "the 1%" count as a minority? If so, then every slur directed at the wealthy should be written up, and every caricature of capitalists as always criminals should be penalized. After a few weeks of the new policy, the school district wouldn't have any teachers left.
We need to return control of the schools to the parents instead of 'woke' administrators; most of whom were indoctrinated with liberal, socialist ideals when going to college. Parents will not stand for overt racism but neither will they stand for fabricated racism like 'microaggressions.'
We don’t need another word for aggression. We already have enough with slurs, insults, derisions, put downs, assault, violence and many others. Micro-aggression is just another word invented to specifically point out aggression towards minority groups. It is not about drawing attention to the aggression but to the identity of minority groups. Minority groups do not need their own word since the language already sufficiently describes what happens to them.
It is patronising to give minority groups their own special word and it is undignified of them to demand one.
Is a slur against a white a macro-aggression?
White privilege is neither a slur nor a microaggression; it is part of the curriculum.
No. It is just a slur and that is all we need to know.
"Proponents of a plan to mandate new diversity and microaggression monitoring systems suffered crushing electoral losses in Southlake, Texas, on Saturday..."
Ah! A ray of light now and then!
Does it say anything about the reporting in this article that it did not get one of the School Districts' names correct. It is not the "Carroll" school district. It is the Carrolton-Farmers Branch Independent School District.
Once you got that wrong, why would I accept anything else you wrote.
Southlake is in Carroll ISD.
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is a separate school district for the cities of Carrollton and Farmers Branch, north of Dallas.
The definition of microagression omits the biggest problem. Activists continually re-interpret language to pretend something is offensive when it clearly is not. This grants unlimited power to unprincipled left wingers which is exactly why these programs have exploded from nearly nowhere to ubiquitous in just a couple of years.
Exactly. The whole thing is so 1984 it is frightening.
This is why we need to get rid of the underlying cause, the leftists themselves.
Haha. Yeah. Definitions.
A Seattle college recently put out a list of potential microagressions. One of them:
“You look nice today”. It might imply that you normally don’t.
Seriously, shit that is this retarded has to run its course eventually, right?
Well, it did on both Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but it took decades, and millions of lives.
Would you like to see such BS from a physics professor:

Black scientist rethinks the 'dark' in dark matter - CNN
Declaring "Racism" is no longer a valid conversation stopper. It is just a poor speech crutch like "Ah".
First anything coming for social sciences is bs...period.
Second..the worst school boards are made up of PTA moms and folks who "work" in the govt/public/non-profit sector. Never and I mean never vote for any of these people. they are the carriers of cultural marxism into our schools.
Again Never vote for a PTA mom for school board..ever! School boards should be run by engineers, small business owners, and business folks..period
"First anything coming for social sciences is bs…period."
It's probably better to call them 'humanities.' Some are worse than others. Linguistics, where I have the most experience, is pretty sound. Economics is probably the worst of them, despite being rife with cultural anti-marxists.
OH and fu nbc news..it is run by NYC bolsheviks who hate real Americans and have been since the 1930's...screw em

If the lefturds had gotten away with setting up their STASI, it would have made life miserable for a lot of kids for a while, but ultimately it would only hasten the demise of their public school system.

I disagree. We need to extend the concept to include nano-aggressions. Nano-aggressions are defined as unspoken hateful thoughts that one might have based on race, preferred race, gender, preferred gender, religion, preferred religion, national origin, preferred national origin, eye color, preferred eye color, well, you get idea or prefer that you get the idea.
Kill social sciences.
You needn't fear 'social sciences.' They are not really sciences at all, seeing they are not given to repeatable experiments. A more appropriate name would be humanities. Or social humanities if you've the urge to go cultural marxist on us.
"There's nothing wrong, for example, with teaching and celebrating other cultures."
Nothing at all, so long as it doesn't absorb too much time from teaching and celebrating the home grown culture.
Or from time spent on math.
You can celebrate the home grown culture all you want. But my kids don't need to learn about your wife's yeast infections.
Well said!
Maffs be all rayciss and s***.
NBC's headline was fun - reporting the result of the "bitterly divided" election which one side won with 70%.
Of course it's literally true that you can have a "bitterly divided" 99 to 1 election if the two sides are sufficiently bitter about their division. But I'm looking forward to seeing NBC repeat this formulation in cases where they don't favor the losing side. Bitterly.

"First, God made idiots. That was for practice. Then he made school boards." Mark Twain.
One of the commenters is correct. We need to keep the apparatchiks (government workers) off school boards and instead elect engineers, business people and even a carpenter or brick layer. Oh, and include realtors as another bunch to keep off school boards.
Just how far are these woke idiots willing to go before the people react? Well, from the looks of things, they crossed the line and the people reacted by chasing their sorry arses out.
It took courage and strong conviction to do so and those people are to be congratulated for standing up for their community.
IME most engineers can't be trusted to draw straight lines. I'd keep them off of anything except the edge of a cliff tbh. Carpenters and brick-layers would probably be fine. As a general rule of thumb, if you haven't had to with your hands and actually sweat to work, you probably shouldn't be in charge of anything. That's the thing most of these groups you would blacklist have in common: no hard work required, no work ethic required. Realtors are generally just salesmen/women who are good at saying what they need to get you to buy their product. NGO/Non-profit folks are similar but worse because they exist to live off of the donations of other people.
Microaggressions were invented because the demand for racism far exceeds its supply.
Well said. The very concept of microaggressions is BS
But that they attempted this speaks volumes. For the demography favours them. And every day thousands more stack the deck. Then of coruse WE LEAVE. THen mayhem and dysfunction descends. Funny how the Racial Left never stops and thinks that maybe its because we ran them off. Sad
