Brickbat: We Are Here to Help

Bodycam video showed several Seattle police officers as they wake Howard McCay from a nap in his home and order him at gunpoint to lift his shirt up to show he has no weapons then to kneel on the floor with his hands on his head, where they handcuff him. McCay asked the officers why they are there and "What did I do?" He gets no answer. It turns out that someone had seen the door to his house open and called 911 for a welfare check. McCay has filed a lawsuit against the city.

So a nosey neighbor calls the cops instead of just walking over to check. I have some elderly neighbors I check on from time to time. Mow their yards and all. Would never call the cops to do that. Then again, my name's no Karen.
Not hacking on you, but the nosey neighbor in this case actually went to the house, walked around downstairs, called out for the older man (resident) and got no response. He went upstairs and knocked at the door of the one locked bedroom, with no response (resident was sleeping, after being sick, apparently). THEN the neighbor called 911 to ask for a welfare check. I can't criticize the neighbor at all in this case.

74 years old, in his own home.
Fuuuu... Watch the video, starting at 15:40. Policy-based torture of an older man with bone spurs in his shoulders, breaking down like all of us will do at that age. And they just won't &(*#ing stop.
If I saw video like that, of my father ... Wow. I would hold the police officers personally responsible. If the police officers were just following policy, then the whole department needs to be destroyed and rebuilt from scratch.
The neighbor you defended earlier brought this to bear.
McCay should be grateful to our LEO heroes, both for making a personal visit AND not shooting him.
The peace officers made it home safe. That’s the important part.
Why do these things happen so often in Liberal bastions like Seattle? Why don't such Woke communities have dedicated welfare checkers?
Bootlickers love to describe cops as brave. Which is baffling given the amount of documented cowardice from cops across the country. This poor bastard is 74 years old, and multiple cops draw guns on him while he's sleeping? Who exactly are they serving and protecting? It sure as shit isn't the citizenry of this country...
"Who exactly are they serving and protecting?"
It's a cookbook!
Next time that some mob (any mob, Antifa, trumpanzees, yellow, green, or purple; ANY mob) starts rioting and destroying things, can we PLEASE recall to ask the cops to drop by and do a "welfare check"? With the mob all hand-cuffed, the rioting will stop!
They did a welfare check and found out all the officers were safe, what's the problem?
I'm not entirely convinced that more welfare checks shouldn't be delivered with the potential to be shot by a SWAT team.
So I go visit my mother in the small town I was born, a couple months ago. She's 90. Within an hour every kid in the neighborhood is there checking me out. A neighbor comes over, sees its me, waves and goes back.
Crazy. People actually checking up on each other instead of calling the cops.
It turns out that someone had seen the door to his house open
I hate to be a libertarian about this, but he was asking for it.
I don't mind, however, being a social conservative about it, fuck the neighbor that calls the cops on an open door. The door is fucking open, conduct your own welfare check.
conduct your own welfare check
OK, I'm pretty sure the correct term should be wellness check. Welfare check, in this context, sounds like a euphemism for burglary.
But what if the door was open because someone else already broke in?
I'd really like to see a transcript of the neighbor's call to the police. Did he ask for them to check on his neighbor or did he report a suspected burglary.
the closing for his civil suit will be a hoot.
as the country collapses, the jews are fleeing to
"safe zones" like fla and wash, as they usually do, once they've drained a nation of its wealth and polarized the population into civil war footing.
