Attack of the Zombie ERA
Plus: A new documentary tells Reality Winner's story, occupational licensing reform is antitrust reform, and more...

Deadline for passage expired in 1982. The House will vote this week on a resolution to remove the time limit for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the Constitution. The ERA was first proposed nearly a century ago, back when the idea that "equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex" was both radical and not already codified in U.S. law in a million ways.
The ERA was reintroduced in 1971 and approved by Congress in 1972, but because it would amend the U.S. Constitution, it required ratification by 38 states. Congress set a deadline of March 22, 1979, for this to happen. When the deadline came, however, only 35 states had voted to ratify. Congress then extended the ratification deadline to June 30, 1982. But in the interim, no new states voted to ratify and five states voted to rescind their earlier approval. So people moved on, striking down sex discrimination under the law through various court cases and other pieces of legislation.
In recent years, however, Democrats have been pushing to revive the long-dead ERA. Nevada voted to ratify in 2017, Illinois in 2018, and Virginia in 2020. ERA proponents say this means that a sufficient number of states (38) have now ratified.
Others counter that not only did five states revoke their ERA support, but also that the three recent ratifications came more than three decades after the deadline for ratification expired.
Late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg opined in 2020 that ERA supporters should "start over," since the new votes for ratification came "long after the deadline passed."
And earlier this month, a federal judge ruled that the Nevada, Illinois, and Virginia votes did not count.
But Democrats aren't letting this one go. On March 5—the same day that U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras ruled against the recently ratifying states—Rep. Jackie Speier (D–Calif.) introduced a House Resolution (H.J.Res.17) to eliminate the earlier deadline for ratification. Since then, the bill has attracted more than 200 co-sponsors, all but one of them Democrats. (The lone Republican co-sponsor is Rep. Tom Reed of New York.)
"Notwithstanding any time limit contained in House Joint Resolution 208, 92d Congress, as agreed to in the Senate on March 22, 1972, the article of amendment proposed to the States in that joint resolution shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the United States Constitution whenever ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States," states the resolution.
Messaging around the modern ERA has focused little on what changes would stem from its ratification; instead, it's treated as a self-evidently necessary pre-condition for "women's equality."
Democrats' vagueness and hyperbole about what ERA passage would actually do—and their refusal to push for re-ratification (as Ginsburg preferred) rather than counting half-a-century-old votes as relevant—suggest this is more about politics than making a material difference for women.
Supporting the ERA means Democratic politicians (and their celebrity boosters) get automatic attention as advocates for women while providing the party with an easy way to smear Republican critics as sexist pigs who don't believe in women's equality.
Tell your Reps to vote Yes on HJ Res 17, there's no time limit on equality. The House is voting to remove the time limit on the #ERA on Wednesday! This is our last chance to thank supporters and ask for more co-sponsors. https://t.co/2BJGQTDCma #EqualFuture #ERANow

The Washington Post's Fake Trump Quote Scandal Is a Lot Worse Than You Think
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2021/03/15/the-washington-posts-fake-trump-quote-scandal-is-a-lot-worse-than-you-think-n1432763
The media conspiracy against Trump became a lot more serious on Monday when the Washington Post retracted its January story claiming that President Donald Trump had pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find the fraud” in the 2020 election and said that he’d be a “national hero” if he did.
A recording of the call definitively proved that the quotes cited by the Washington Post, and then parroted by other outlets, were never actually said by the president at all.
But, as Becket Adams explains at the Washington Examiner, “the Washington Post’s dud of a ‘bombshell’ isn’t even the most scandalous thing about this episode in media malfeasance.”
The most scandalous thing, Adams, argues, is that several different newsrooms “claimed they independently ‘confirmed’ the original ‘scoop’ with anonymous sources of their own.”
Remember when the commie staff at unreason parroted the WaPo lies?
No corrections are forthcoming from unreason.
Orange Man Bad. How can we defend free minds except by lies?
Robbie took Sullums bullet yesterday.
Yeah, but Robby Goodhair is one of the few journalists left in the entire industry that tends to look at things with anything resembling a critical eye.
What's particularly damning is that, apparently, the audio file was found in the computer's Recycle Bin, and whoever put it there seemed to think that got rid of it forever. I'm honestly curious as to who leaked the file when they found it--thank goodness it was someone with actual integrity rather than a Catonian swamp creature.
Did they, though? Cite of any article at Reason mentioning “find the fraud”, other than the article this week saying the quote was not true?
Someone is criticizing Reason Magazine?!
Don't worry guys, I'll save you!
My hero!
Caw caw!
Remember when you made failed prediction after failed prediction?
And Trump did ask him to find "one more vote than Biden got", which is all we need to show Trump's criminality and disinterest in any sort of fraud or fairness or the constitution.
Yes, but you are leaving out the context. Trump asked the governor to 'Find' more votes after the vote recount 'found' 6,000 votes that weren't in the original count. So asking to find 10,000 more, or one more than Biden got was a legitimate request.
He was essentially saying, look again, there might be more where that last batch came from.
"So asking to find 10,000 more, or one more than Biden got was a legitimate request."
Let's say we let debate over that questionable standard of conduct slide. Let's take a look at the transcript from the call:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-raffensperger-call-transcript-georgia-vote/2021/01/03/2768e0cc-4ddd-11eb-83e3-322644d82356_story.html
Trump: "And you are going to find that they are — which is totally illegal — it is more illegal for you than it is for them because, you know, what they did and you’re not reporting it. That’s a criminal, that’s a criminal offense. And you can’t let that happen. That’s a big risk to you and to Ryan, your lawyer. And that’s a big risk. But they are shredding ballots, in my opinion, based on what I’ve heard. And they are removing machinery, and they’re moving it as fast as they can, both of which are criminal finds. And you can’t let it happen, and you are letting it happen. You know, I mean, I’m notifying you that you’re letting it happen. So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have because we won the state."
Trump: "I don’t know, look, Brad. I got to get . . . I have to find 12,000 votes, and I have them times a lot. And therefore, I won the state. That’s before we go to the next step, which is in the process of right now. You know, and I watched you this morning, and you said, well, there was no criminality.
"But I mean all of this stuff is very dangerous stuff. When you talk about no criminality, I think it’s very dangerous for you to say that."
Trump: "But your numbers aren’t right. They’re really wrong, and they’re really wrong, Brad. And I know this phone call is going nowhere other than, other than ultimately, you know — "
Are you actually using the content of the Washington Post article to support your argument? You do realize that is the article in question for its validity, right?
I mean, there was an entire article in Reason about it yesterday and its the basis for Ra's initial post.
Here, for your pleasure and enjoyment:

I appreciate your summarizing the original, based on lies article. You keep being you White Plight.
Oh, and I would guess Trump was being facetious when he asked for one more than Biden, if that ever really happened either.
No, it is not. There were two different phone calls. This is the phone call we have a complete transcript for.
Read your own citation:
“Trump's other call with Georgian election officials, a transcript of which has been available for months, continues to look quite bad for him”
Thanks. You left off a bit of info there...
Your cherry picked sentence. Trump's other call with Georgian election officials, a transcript of which has been available for months, continues to look quite bad for him:
The rest: with my emphasis in spots that may have some relevance to your point.
He (Trump) repeatedly stated an exact number of votes that he would like the investigators to discover. It would not be wrong to conclude that Trump inappropriately exerted pressure on Georgian election officials. But he did not say precisely what the media alleged that he had said, and that matters.
It matters because many White House reporters have increasingly come to rely upon anonymous reporting. The public needs to have confidence that when The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, NPR, etc., supply information from a confidential source, that information is accurate. When a source's name is used in an article, readers can place a greater degree of trust in the information—since that person has put his or her reputation on the line—but an anonymous source is shielded from criticism, putting the onus on the journalist to get it right. That clearly didn't happen here.
At a time when the public's trust in traditional media has hit an all-time low, screw-ups like this one certainly don't help.
You used a similar tactic in your Officer Sicknick fire extinguisher expose'.
Your reply doesn’t address anything in my comment.
Just admit you were wrong, and you didn’t realize there were two separate phone calls.
Ah, so your goal today was to trip me up by posting the call that was a different call from the one being discussed. And here I thought I was responding to your questioning my comment.
I see.
Well done.
Let’s take a look at the transcript from the call: -WK
And cleverly disguised as well.
From your thread below with ML
I quoted only from the January 2nd call.
Why did you choose to do that? Nevermind. I think we know.
Just admit you were wrong, and you didn’t realize there were two separate phone calls.
I didn't realize you brought a different phone call to the discussion. Or the reason why. Maybe you could explain.
You're literally using the article that has been exposed as a fraudulent lie, to defend the article's fraudulent lie.

The very transcript I linked to.
I’ll spell it out for you:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump–Raffensperger_phone_call
“On December 23, 2020, Trump called the chief investigator for the Georgia secretary of state’s office,...” This is the call where Trump supposedly said, “find the fraud”.
“On January 2, 2021, during an hour-long conference call, then-U.S. President Donald Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to change the state's vote totals from the 2020 presidential election.”
This is the one for which we have a recording and transcript. I quoted only from the January 2nd call.
Admit you were wrong or prove you are just a troll.
Glenn Greenwald: How Do Big Media Outlets So Often “Independently Confirm” Each Other’s Falsehoods? The Washington Post’s media-spread error about Trump’s Georgia call shows the deceitful playbook first invented to undermine Trump and promote Russiagate.
Thanks for sticking up for me ML but it appears I was wrong. WK introduced a new element, the Jan 2 phone call, to the thread that had nothing to do with the article we were discussing.
I've asked her why.
Thank you for admitting that you were wrong in accusing me of quoting from the same article.
Why? To show that Trump was still a slimeball trying to pressure government officials in Georgia into changing their vote results, regardless of whether that one quote was accurate or not.
And it is not true that the January 2nd call had “nothing to do” with the article being discussed. Reason’s article about the retraction talked about the January 2nd call.
If you and Mother’s Lament had actually understood the basic timeline of what had conspired, you would have known there were two phone calls, one of which was recorded. Perhaps, you could understand what you are debating before jumping in.
Got it. Fair enough.
In that case I still stand by my comment. Finding votes after others were found is not an unreasonable request, nor is it illegal. The illegality would be on the part of the Georgia vote counters if it turned out Trump was correct. Since the partisan Raffensberger had no intention of helping find more votes it was clearly a wasted effort. We'll agree to disagree on the election results being fair and just.
Perhaps, you could understand what you are debating before jumping in.
Since you jumped in on my comment to oppressor your comment is a bit ironic here. Also, my original comment invoked no timeline, just responded to De Oppressors comment about finding votes. I'm sure he appreciates you coming to his rescue to educate us all.
Reason’s article about the retraction talked about the January 2nd call.
Ra's article did not. I posted Reason's article in response to yours thinking we were discussing Ra's. Apparently we were on a new topic at that point.
"WK introduced a new element, the Jan 2 phone call, to the thread that had nothing to do with the article we were discussing.
I missed that. Typical White Knight dishonesty then.
We're talking about a lie, WK says it's true and then when we challenge the dishonest fuck, WK say's "Oh, I was talking about Y, not X".
It's wearying , but that's probably why White Knight does it.
No, he didn't. You're still remembering paraphrases and fabricated quotes.
He asked for the opportunity to find them himself. Access.
“I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”
...
Also during the conversation, Trump appeared to threaten Raffensperger and Ryan Germany, the secretary of state’s legal counsel, by suggesting both could be criminally liable if they failed to find that thousands of ballots in Fulton County had been illegally destroyed. There is no evidence to support Trump’s claim.
“That’s a criminal offense,” Trump says. “And you can’t let that happen.”

But as per usual, GQP sympathizers, white nationalists, and general all around authoritarian cult members will nitpick and pedant their way to completely ignoring the main issue.
Find. Again, not manufacture, not create, nothing. This is after a county found a missing memory card filled with thousands of votes.
Are you just ignorant?
Pedants gonna pedant.
Sophists gonna sophist.
that's not sophistry, that's a quote from Trump taken at plain meaning. "Sophistry" would be closer to writing several paragraphs about how Trump didn't really mean that thing he plainly said, he meant something else that is less traitor-y.
That wasn't pedantry, but you are definitely misrepresenting what Trump said, now that there's available context.
Or claiming that policing in the US originated in slave patrols when that wasn't actually the case.
Propagandists gotta narrate.
Not lost on me how you shunted the 'White Nationalists' descriptor in there. Like all good propaganda, if you express the lie in enough ways enough times soon it will be accepted as truth.

"All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes"
Are you seriously bringing up the article that's been exposed as fraudulent, to defend against allegations of journalistic fraud?

You can admit you are wrong anytime.
While you are at it, you can admit that Trump lied about Dominion’s political donations.
Why? Outlaw Josey Wales is right and so is Trump about Dominion.
So, you admit you are a troll.

Poor unreason commies.
My predictions are so correct the commies had to speed up all desperate plans to stave off the demise of the democrat party. As we know from years of investigation, the lies against Trump were all made up by lefties.
Trump won the plurality of legal votes in states that mattered. Corrupt judges are being forced to admit this truth. All we needed was time. The democrat corruption is too sloppy to hide forever.
Once the nov 3, 2020 general election results were corrupted, georgias two senate seats would be sent for runoff election where democrats could focus on stealing that too. Senator perdue beat his democrat opponent by 80,000 votes in the general election.
Its okay. Democrats spent all their political capital on stealing election 2020. Its why they cant get done what they want and cant stop civil war 2.0 war drums.
We had to endure Obama, one of the worst presidents, to get the best president in US history- Donald Trump.
These fake quotes were used in the impeachment trial. Both impeachment were filled with j repentant lies that have been discovered post trial. Not a single mea culpa.
The most scandalous thing, Adams, argues, is that several different newsrooms “claimed they independently ‘confirmed’ the original ‘scoop’ with anonymous sources of their own.”
Yeah, they all parroted the original story when it was posted on Twitter and passed the work off as their own.
The current crop of "journalists" are so fucking lazy and worthless. It's a lot easier to just assume now that everything they write is a lie, that everything they cite is based off of a lie, and wait for the follow-up when the real, actual reporting comes out via retraction. We really do appear to be at the tail end of an elite cycle, when the final generations are so corrupt, useless, and unself-aware that they end up destroying, via sheet incompetence, what their ancestors built.
Elite institutions have torched whatever remained of their credibility and fired or driven out anyone competent so that a few idiots like Nikole Hannah Jones could have a couple good days on Twitter.
A lot of this began 100 years ago when the cult of youth worship really first began in western society. It didn't really kick into gear until the 1950s, but the idea of this paradigm has always been the immature children are somehow wiser than a person who's had far more years of actual life experience to draw from, and gained wisdom from having to overcome varying degrees of adversity and learning from mistakes.
It's looking increasingly like the Boomers are going to end up being the last of the truly competent American generations for this particular cycle, and that's mainly due to the fact that their parents passed on the lessons of the Depression and World War II to them. Look at your local school board, town council, or even state house--it's largely loaded now with emotionally retarded, entitled cunts that shouldn't be put in charge of a lemonade stand, much less a complex society.
If non-leftists want to have a hope in hell of avoiding a full-on collapse, they need to drop this "government is the problem" mindset and start getting involved in politics at the local level--especially as all these white leftists in particular start fleeing their urban shitholes to come crap in your nest. You want to stop them, you better nip their shit in the bud before they turn your town into just another cancerous appendage.
The boomers might have been competent once upon a time. Now most of them are senile old farts.
I don't think most people would dispute that we're essentially being run by corpses now. Hell, look who the oligarchs put in the big seat recently.
Yeah, but government is the problem. And no one should be running or trying to run a complex society.
And no one should be running or trying to run a complex society.
This is just armchair anarchism and has little application in the real world.
If you want to know why the woke left is driving the culture and discourse now, it's because you willingly ceded the battleground to them a long time ago.
This is equivalent to some dickhead bitching about how poorly his town is run, but won't try to get involved himself because he's "not corrupt enough for politics" (that's not hyperbole, it's a direct quote from someone at a town council meeting I attended a few years ago). It's nothing more than sour grapes, and at some point people who don't like how things are being run need to quit bitching and put some skin in the game, not act like they're above it all while society crumbles around them.
A big reason why the Greatest Generation was the Greatest Generation is because they actually gave a shit about their communities and worked in some capacity to influence their stability, whether it was serving on local neighborhood boards, getting involved in civic organizations like the VFW or the Jaycees, or running for town council or school board positions where they could have real, actual impact on their communities.
To be fair, the greatest generation gave us social security, unions, and ever-grown government.
They also didnt fight the Nazis and Japanese until the Axis attacked them. Defeating the Axis was a positive but like every generation, they have a bunch of negatives too.
America is $30 trillion in debt and that started on the greatest generations watch.
It’s looking increasingly like the Boomers are going to end up being the last of the truly competent American generations for this particular cycle, and that’s mainly due to the fact that their parents passed on the lessons of the Depression and World War II to them.
Uh, I'd consider The Greatest Generation to be, well, the greatest. They came back from the great depression to beat the Nazis, their children lost Vietnam and won? in Afghanistan.
I said competent, not exceptional.
And the writers at Reason have zero curiosity as too what else the media maybe lying about. To them, this is clearly a 'one off' lapse of judgement.
Another "one off"
I sincerely hope no journalists get hurt for behaving like this.

Is WA Gov. Jay Inslee Single-handedly Responsible for America's COVID Outbreak?
https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bethbaumann/2021/03/13/is-wa-gov-jay-inslee-single-handedly-responsible-for-americas-covid-outbreak-n2586203
Here's the kicker: that directive was made roughly one month after the Life Care Center in Kirkland, Washington saw a massive coronavirus outbreak. The Life Care outbreak was dubbed America's "epicenter" for the Wuhan coronavirus, which officially began on Feb. 19, 2020.
The Life Care Center had two outbreaks, with a total of 156 confirmed COVID cases in its facility, with 101 being residents and the other 55 being staff members, KING-TV reported. The nursing home facility amassed "46 deaths between residents, staff, and visitors."
On March 24, 2020, a little more than a month after the Life Care outbreak, the Department of Health issued guidelines for how nursing home patients should be accepted into nursing homes.
"Long-term care facilities should admit residents with COVID-19 who are no longer acutely ill back to their long-care residence," the guidelines stated. "The decision to admit should be based on clinical care needs rather than the need for transmission-based precautions."
Since testing was scarce at the time, nursing homes were told to accept patients who were seven days after the onset of their symptoms "AND 72 hours since resolution of fever without antipyretics and symptoms proving."
On March 30, 2020, Inslee issued a proclamation deeming it "necessary to immediately waive and suspend portions of licensing statutes and rules relating to health care facilities" throughout the state. He also moved to "immediately waive and suspend portions of the licensing and administrative statutes relating to health care facilities to remove barriers to adding health care facilities and beds to meet the demands of the COVID-19 response."
Nursing Home 'Patients Will Die': Staff Warned NJ Commissioner About COVID-19 Order
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/tyler-o-neil/2021/03/15/nursing-home-patients-will-die-staff-warned-nj-commissioner-about-covid-19-order-n1432596
Last March, as Gov. Phil Murphy (D-N.J.) ordered nursing homes to admit patients recovering from COVID-19, nursing home administrators warned New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli that the new policy amounted to a death sentence for elderly residents.
“Patients will die,” an unidentified administrator declared, according to a recording of the March 21, 2020 meeting first reported by NJ Advance Media. “You understand that by asking us to take COVID patients, by demanding we take COVID patients, that patients will die in nursing homes that wouldn’t have otherwise died had we screened them out.”
About 8,000 COVID-19 deaths — roughly 40 percent of New Jersey’s 21,000 COVID-19 deaths — trace back to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. On March 31, Murphy’s administration directed nursing homes to re-admit residents who had been discharged from hospitals while recovering from COVID-19.
It was going to spread here regardless--remember all the Chinese New Year posts from Democrats on the coasts, telling everyone to mass downtown to fight Blonard Blumph's racist travel restrictions on their Chinese overlords?
Yep it was already in WA by December. Inslee just sped up the curve a little by infecting the at-risk all at once. Sort of like Cuomo and the other misfits. Of course we can't talk about that because Cuomo is a hero. Even though (Wolf?) pulled his mom out of the nursing homes before putting covid patients there, we can't talk about that because he's wearing a dress and has a job in the Biden admin.
Even though (Wolf?) pulled his mom out of the nursing homes before putting covid patients there, we can’t talk about that because he’s wearing a dress and has a job in the Biden admin.
That was Wolf's horrendously fat, mentally ill tranny public health director, not the governor himself.
I thought at one point someone tracked the spread and it was primarily from Europe to the East Coast not China to the West. I mean, I'm not a fan of Inslee but I wouldn't hold him responsible for the entire outbreak.
Let them alone. They are on their morning 2 minutes of hate, brought to you by PJ Media, America's dumbest source of dumb shit.

This one was easy, Jesse.
Why are you so stupid? Just comment less, and it will be less apparent how stupid you are.
Try again.
No response from a pile of garbage.
What does that have to do with inslee putting covid patients in nursing homes?
Nothing to see here, officer barbrady? Haha. Inslee must be one of those poor, oppressed people that you’re so genuinely concerned about.
What a doosh.
For nearly 80 yrs, there have been severe limits on how federal agencies and private plaintiffs could enforce America's antitrust laws against a state-sanctioned entity, like an occupational licensing board.
My grandmother was killed by wrongly braided hair.
Did her Governor force her nursing home to let unlicensed hair braiders in?
Sadly, that's as plausible as anything else I've read here.
Did she get better?
Not yet.
Probably not wearing a mask. Or three.
Because they couldn't get the catheter in?
Supporting the ERA means Democratic politicians (and their celebrity boosters) get automatic attention as advocates for women while providing the party with an easy way to smear Republican critics as sexist pigs who don't believe in women's equality.
Supporting the IRA means...
Just a distraction from Gov Cuomo.
Being an independent contractor for me = freedom.
Yeah, your freedom isn't actually a priority for any government functionary from Biden on down to dog catcher.
The Biden administration pushed for government workers to be allowed to take more than half the year off to home school their kids. Who will do the work? The contractors. What a wonderful time to be a useless, over-entitled, affirmative action hire at government. They are sitting at home cranking the song "Money For Nothing".
That little faggot identifies as a woman now.

Those dildos aid marriages. That's why they're called marital aids.
I thought marital aids killed Freddy Mercury?
It was extramarital.
What a hero for our youth! I hope he gets another biopic soon.
I assumed they were called marital aids because they could be used as a weapon, but I might be confused about the difference between marital and martial. If you ever met my ex-wife, you might see where the confusion stems from.
Democrats' vagueness and hyperbole about what ERA passage would actually do
I'm so old I can remember when objections to the ERA on the grounds that it would mandate unisex bathrooms were mocked and ridiculed as silly nonsense and the ERA would do no such thing.
Gun control tyrants have the same problem.
Nobody believes gun grabber lies that they dont want to seize your guns. Lefty countries like north korea, Australia and New Zealand have already done it.
We have the second amendment, so all gun control is unconstitutional. Its all moot because america is in civil war 2.0, so lefties have no protections of the constitution nor does government have any authority.
We are not in Civil War 2.0 no matter how badly you and Mother’s Lament the Canuck wish we were.
You keep on repeating that lie, but when have I ever said I hoped for civil war?
You, on the other hand said this about the protest on Jan sixth:

It is now crystal clear Trump is monster. If you still support him, you are a bad person. There is no ambiguity, no wiggle room anymore.
If that's not incitement, I don't know what is.
Difference between commies and me. I dont want war but wont shy away from defeating the American commies .
It will give America many decades of freedom just like defeating the democrats in civil war 1.0 did.
Whenever I hear the word "equal", I reach for my revolver...
Bro. Equitable, not equal. Living 5 years ago.
So, my Colt is now an "equitablizer"?
Yup, now it's everyone has the same stuff (but not really) instead of everyone should be treated the same (but not really).
It depends who you are and what you have.
O remember when biology was a science and not an idea.
Social construct
Wait. Unisex bathrooms would be mere "equality". To attain the higher goal of "equity" we have to have bathrooms labeled by gender so we can define access by political means.
I always thought that the absolute bombs dudes take in shitters at work would be the death knell of the unisex bathroom. Especially after they eat the spicy curry in the cafeteria at the Mom and Pop consumer electronics manufacturer I work for.
I figured that would get women to check theyselves
Women's shit doesn't stink after they eat curries?
Well I never see them come spilling out of their bathroom looking like army recruits after a mustard gas exposure drill gagging
I can't say I have seen that happen in men's rooms either. Or noticed men's rooms in general to be particularly stinky. You must have an exceptional cafeteria. And anal retentive female coworkers.
Well it depends on where you work I guess. I have worked at GE Nuclear/Cisco/Google/Intel/Samsung/HP and smaller sludge factories; but to your point I am probably compressing about 15 olfactory outrages over 23 years.
And allow me to correct one point. At a place where there were unisex bathrooms (because of the original intent for use rather than a social engineering project), piss on the seats seemed to be the biggest moral outrage to the moose knuckle set

The candidate -

South Carolina lawmakers are trying to proactively address future emergency orders banning church services by having churches declared essential businesses.
Legislatures restricting other branches? This is blasphemy! Or is it heresy?
Equity!
I'll tell you what it is; a fucking half measure. Declare all businesses as essential and be done with it!
Hmm. Seems like it could go the other way, and they declare all businesses as non-essential (and ultimately seditious).
Sedition charges for failure to pay the state it's fair share, no doubt.
Better to restrict all emergency order to 14 days with no extensions allowed. Any emergency executive order is considered to call a special legislative session to deal with the emergency with proper legislation.
To clarify, they only have to come up with proposed legislation in the 14 days, right? I'm loathe to accept the brilliant decisionmaking that would come out of an emergency session. Especially given precedents like "You have to pass the bill to find out what's in the bill."

Finally, we need to forego mindless adherence to “conservative principles” that ensure our servitude. The underlying premise of us not interfering with or regulating businesses is that we won’t use our power against them if they don’t use theirs against us. It’s always weird that alleged conservatives – the Fredocons – insist that we pretend what is happening isn’t actually happening and honor a contract that the other guys breached. As has been said before, never adhere to a purported conservative principle that makes you less free.

This kind of mistake is beyond serious. There's zero accountability in major corporate media anymore, yet they continually insist they're the ones holding the line on the truth. And always remember what should scare you about the media is what *doesn't get exposed."
I'm thrilled that they have fact checkers to make sure of this stuff.
If by fact you mean compliance with the doctrine du jour.
Start your own Democratic Party mouthpiece.
Rep.
The full list of idiots who don't think states would have to ratify the changes post the change. Fucking idiots.

HOUSTON (AP) — The U.S. government plans to use the downtown Dallas convention center to hold up to 3,000 immigrant teenagers as sharply higher numbers of border crossings have severely strained the current capacity to hold youths, The AP has learned.
https://apnews.com/article/dallas-health-coronavirus-pandemic-immigration-border-patrols-fa567f671faa0e9eb33e37f30746f1b6
The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center will be used for up to 90 days beginning as early as this week, according to a memo obtained by The Associated Press that was sent Monday to members of the Dallas City Council. Federal agencies will use the facility to house boys ages 15 to 17, according to the memo, which describes the soon-to-open site as a “decompression center.”
“decompression center.”
So, at the other places, where the tents are set up, large numbers of immigrant numbers are compressed or condensed? If only there were a word for 'increasing the amount of something contained within a given space' and a word for 'a place where tents are set up', maybe even a single, two-word term. It seems like there's one that fits but it's like I forgot it on Jan. 20th for some reason.
As I said elsewhere, these "youths" have probably been working at full-time jobs supporting their families for longer than your average American new college graduate has been.
"decompression centers"?
I think, in Spanish, "Decompression" means "of civic compassion."
I failed Spanish btw.

And yet, oddly enough, when the Supreme Court ruled in North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners v FTC that there might be some limits to how much power the government could grant private organizations to regulate business, it was Thomas, Alito, and Scalia that dissented from the opinion, arguing that this interfered with state sovereignty to trample on the civil rights of its citizens as much as they pleased.

A Cincinnati-area police officer is facing criminal charges after allegedly drugging and raping someone in January.
So was it the raping or the drugging that got him into trouble? Or just that you're allowed to do one or the other but not both?
I was wondering what happened to Steve Smith.
"Supporting the ERA means Democratic politicians (and their celebrity boosters) get automatic attention as advocates for women while providing the party with an easy way to smear Republican critics as sexist pigs who don't believe in women's equality."
Speaking of Democrats and selling principle short for political expediency, average Democrat voters in New York, apparently, are working hard to make woke progressives look ridiculous on the issue of sexual harassment.
"ALBANY, N.Y.—Half of New Yorkers say Gov. Andrew Cuomo shouldn’t resign from office, while 35% say he should, as he faces allegations of inappropriate behavior toward female aides and criticism over the state’s handling of Covid-19 in nursing homes, according to a new poll.
. . . .
Poll spokesman Steven Greenberg said there was a partisan split and geographic split in the survey’s results, and said a majority of New York City voters said the governor shouldn’t step down.
“Nearly two-thirds of Republicans say Cuomo should resign; however, 61% of Democrats and 46% of independents, a plurality, say he should not,” Mr. Greenberg said.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/in-a-poll-half-of-new-yorkers-say-gov-andrew-cuomo-should-not-resign-11615820435?
Putting this into context with, for instance, how California voted against an affirmative action ballot initiative in 2020 and how Liz Warren came in third in the 2020 Massachusetts primary after running a woke SJW campaign, it isn't clear that average Democrats were ever as woke as some of their leaders would like us to believe--not even in deep blue states like California, Massachusetts, and New York.
Still, it doesn't seem that things have changed much since feminists sided with Bill Clinton against his accusers, even in the wake of Monica Lewinski. This is how credibility is lost. The worst outcome for Democrats may be that Cuomo hangs onto power and becomes a living repudiation of Democrat pretenses of social justice. That may be enough for Albany to impeach Cuomo, just for that reason alone.
Oh, and, incidentally, watching woke Democrats from elsewhere in the country pile onto the anti-recall campaign for Gavin Newsom in California, those progressive all-stars may not impress average Californians the way Democrats imagine.
Bernie Sanders, Corey Booker, and Liz Warren have all jumped on the pro-Newsom bandwagon, but I don't think anybody who finds their opinions persuasive was about to vote to recall Newsom anyway. There may be plenty of average Democrats, on the other hand, who might rethink their support for Newsom in light of a bunch of progressive all-stars vouching for him.
If we can can get AOC on board, Gavin Newsom may be in deep trouble, and what we need is statements in support of some serious elitism--about how Gavin Newsom should be kept despite whether Californians appreciate suffering forced lockdowns and the governor selling voters short to defer to the teachers' unions. I mean, who cares what the people want, right? Isn't forcing people to do the right thing against their will what being a progressive is all about?
The Chron is getting desperate:
"There's a long-shot chance for Gavin Newsom to knock recall off ballot. Will he try it?"
[...]
"SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom is shifting into campaign mode to save his job, but it will be months before voters find out if and when they will have an opportunity to weigh in on a potential recall — the result of changes adopted several years ago by California Democrats trying to protect one of their own...."
https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/There-s-a-long-shot-chance-for-Gavin-Newsom-to-16027433.php
Wonder if the Ds would support a retry on Trump/droolin' Joe?
Once he's on the recall ballot, about a third of the state is Republican and will take off of work and plan their vacations around being at the poll early to vote against him. So, there is a built in 33% base support for getting to vote any Democrat out of office. Meanwhile, if we're talking about an off-year election, how many Democrats are likely to show up? We may only need one in six swing voters to show up and vote against him for him to lose.
Add to that, the progressives got absolutely shellacked on progressives ballot initiatives in 2020, which doesn't auger well for Democrat sentiment.
Add to that, the question isn't really whether you want any particular villain instead of Newsom but just whether you want to stick it to Newsom for at least one of the ballot questions?
The Chron should be worried.
In SF, you don't hear support for Newsom from service workers, and there's quite a few of them.
Open-close-open-close-pen-close; what fun, wondering when you'll get a paycheck and how big it'll be.
Well once you become mayor the prog base slowly begins to push you to the right. Now that he is governor, along the coast he may as well be Pat Buchanan as far as the bourgeois are concerned.
What will kill the progs will be their support for splinter candidates with wacko policies and they will neutralize themselves.
In my fantasy, McClintock is the winner of the post recall race
Ken Gavin Newsome won't be recalled, the state assembly will just void more signatures
It didn't work that way when we recalled Gray Davis.
https://ballotpedia.org/Gray_Davis_recall_(2003)
I think you can agree that politics are a bit different than they were in 2003
I don't know about that, at least not within California.
The top-two primary was on the ballot in 2010 in California--during the Obama administration. That's why we have to chose between two Democrats for the U.S. Senate in the general election, Kamala Harris or Loretta Sanchez. Talk about robbery in broad daylight! What better way to fix an election than to make it so a Republican is highly unlikely to even make it onto the ballot in the general election?
Meanwhile, culture war issues were even less of a factor now than they were back then. The last time issues like gay marriage, marijuana, abortion, prayer in public schools, teaching evolution, etc. were less of a factor in a California election--before 2020--was sometime before Ronald Reagan was the governor.
In the rest of the country, it may be more partisan than ever, but in California, the war is over. The Democrats won, and the Republicans have surrendered. It's basically a one-party state.
Some Republicans did win House elections in some swing districts in California, but anybody who stuffed the ballot box in California did so unnecessarily. That would be like framing OJ--a guilty man.
Lol on the framing OJ...
They tried to frame a guilty man and he wasnt convicted because of it. I was just talking about this recently re steven avery. If you, A) take the duty to believe there is no reasonable doubt seriously. And B) factor in the amount of corruption and incompetence on display by the gov sanctioned gang bangers. C) It follows that he should have walked whether he was guilty or not. IMO, it was entirely reasonable to believe that ( or it was possible that) OJ was framed before he started rubbing it in in the early aughts.
The OJ thing got even more ridiculous, because they then successfully framed him (rather set him up) as revenge for him trolling the world about getting away with murder. This episode demonstrated why it was originally reasonable to assume a bunch of racist cops would/could frame him in the first place.
Im not sure how this relates to cheating in california elections. They did stuff the ballot box even though they didnt need to?
Yeah, but that was back in the day when the machine didn't feel like it could afford to be so blatant. Trump and Brexit set a dangerous precedent that our betters can no longer ignore.
Democracy in the West is now dead.
McClintock '21
They were more blatant in some ways back then.

What we should have been doing for the past year.
All women demanding gender equality should remove 5 years from their life expectancy, and try to die more from COVID.
Ha! Perfect.
I was on Linked In the other day reading the comments. With Women's celebration month there were some posts on how wonderful the world was for women now. And of course how much harder. There was a particular post about how women should support other women in not glorifying working extra to succeed. That work was not everything. That the idea of working more, doing more, was unique to the women experience in the world of work. In the very next post one of them stated, 'We should not wear the badge of honor of the 60 hour + work week that so many older white guys promote as the path to success.'
The irony was not lost on me.
Another woman I know had the choice between a job with an easier commute that paid more but was less fulfilling than her second choice. $10K less, harder commute but she thought the work being done was more important. I asked her if it was more important than her family who would benefit from the extra $10K. Her answer - 'They would, but I would feel less whole as a career person.'
Tell me again how that wage gap thing works?
It's both anti-woman and anti-gay that they aren't falsely accusing each other of rape 8-10% of the time and there's no real justification for them not to be doing so. It's not like it takes a lot of time, effort, or resources to fabricate a false accusation.
They can probably accomplish the first by migrating in tremendous numbers to the top ten most dangerous jobs in America, all ten of which are *vastly* more lopsided in gender balance than anything I've heard women complaining that they need "more representation" in, like programming.
Such as my current gig, truck driving, which is #6 on the list with ~30 deaths per 100k workers annually, and approximately 8% women in the field.
But maybe they really only want equality in the high status, low death risk jobs.
"Late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg opined in 2020 that ERA supporters should "start over," since the new votes for ratification came "long after the deadline passed."
And earlier this month, a federal judge ruled that the Nevada, Illinois, and Virginia votes did not count."
No widespread fraud.
Hello my name is Rev kuck, it has been 7 days since I last clicked a sullum article
You never give me your money
Never understood the opposition to the ERA. It may have been radical in its day, but its day was when women were still expected to be stay at home moms. That attitude was outdated before I even graduated high school.
It's essentially the law anyway. Discrimination on the basis of sex is already against the law in all states.
The text of the amendment is perfectly fine. A lot of the Right Fringe hate it for strange reasons, like assuming "sex" means "gender" and people will just choose to identify as female to get rights or something. Uh, that's not how it works. Or that it extends rights to temporary polyamorous hookups. It's all nonsense. Read the actual ERA text.
The only reason the Right hates it is due to tribalism. It's seen as a Blue Tribe issue, so Red Tribe won't vote to ratify lest they lose their core misogynist voter. So fucking stupid.
Without the tribalism this thing could be reintroduced and ratified by 38 states in less than a month.
"...A lot of the Right Fringe hate it for strange reasons, like assuming “sex” means “gender” and people will just choose to identify as female to get rights or something. Uh, that’s not how it works..."

The braindead stupidity of the USA Olympics committee (a private organization) is not an excuse to deny women their equal rights under the law.
Sigh...... what “rights” do they not have, brandy?
This
No. If "gender equality" means things like mandating equal take home pay, even within specific fields and roles, regardless of experience or performance, then it is still ideological bullshit.
That is NOT what the ERA says. Read the fucking text of it.
*barf*
The text of the 2A says every gun law in unconstitutional. Yet here we are.
The way it is implemented will be radical. All of these laws create a some are more equal than others society

It isnt the right doing this dumbass. It is the right saying correct that the left is doing this. This is why you're a lefty.
"when women were still expected to be stay at home moms"
That was only ever true among the upper-middle-class.
My great-grandmothers were farmers, herring-girls and servants, my grandmothers were shopkeepers and office assistants, my mother was a nurse. Most families couldn't afford to live without the wife also having a "career". The only difference being that they were slightly less deadly than their husband's work.
Only the bourgeoisie were so privileged as to not have to work all day while raising children. A woman staying home was a signal of wealth.
And that's what feminism is always been about. Rich white women and their interactions with rich white men.
My upper middle class grandmother worked her whole life in a factory. It didnt stop my mother from teaching me that all women were trapped in the kitchen in the 50s and 60s. It was always a lie. You can look at female labor participation over the last 100 years and see it plain as day.
"Never understood the opposition to the ERA"
There really us no need to inform us of your lack of intelligence, it is well known already after many years of your demonstrating it daily.
Hey, it’s basically already law, so what’s the big deal just amending the constitution for the fun of it?!
That's what I was going to say. Opposing needlessly confusing redundancy doesn't automatically make one a member of the fringe right.
At least, it didn't used to and there's no logical reason why it should...
It was radical up umtil a year or two ago.
There is also the real possibilityban activist judiciarybexpamdsnthe plain meaning, and we begin looking at 'disparate impact' (like the US Army is right now with its physical standards for combat) and wind up at Harrison Bergeron and Harvey Weinstein showering with middle school girls
“judiciarybexpamdsnthe”
I’m gonna need a translation on this one.
By a plain reading of the text, I would agree. There is nothing wrong with the ERA. But I have no confidence that it will be interpreted in a reasonable way and with things like the insanity of identity politics really picking up, and the persistence of false or misleading claims like women getting paid 70% of what men do for similar work or that everyone gets raped at college makes me think it will not make anything better, to say the least. Way too many people think equal right means equal outcomes.
"Others counter that not only did five states revoke their ERA support"
Right, once a woman says yes, she can't change her mind.
https://thefederalist.com/2021/03/15/democrat-bill-h-r-1-would-let-people-vote-up-to-two-weeks-after-election-day/
As noted by Federalist Executive Editor Joy Pullmann, the Democratic-sponsored elections bill H.R. 1 would “require states to wait ten days after election day” to accept ballots. Page 199 of the legislation states:
Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to prohibit a State from having a law that allows for counting of ballots in an election for Federal office that are received through the mail after the date that is 10 days after the date of the election.
As long as ballots are postmarked by Election Day, H.R. 1 would effectively mandate that all states accept absentee ballots within that 10-day window. But the bill takes it a step further, noting that election officials would be restricted from verifying voter identification and eligibility. H.R. 1 would ban all state voter ID laws and has an ambiguous provision criminalizing an individual from “hindering, interfering, or preventing” an individual from voting or registering.
“H.R. 1 would federalize and micromanage the election process administered by the states, imposing unnecessary, unwise, and unconstitutional mandates on the states and reversing the decentralization of the American election process—which is essential to the protection of our liberty and freedom,” The Heritage Foundation found.
It would (among other things) implement nationwide the worst changes in election rules that occurred during the 2020 election; go even further in eroding and eliminating basic security protocols that states have in place; and interfere with the ability of states and their citizens to determine the qualifications and eligibility of voters, ensure the accuracy of voter registration rolls, secure the fairness and integrity of elections, and participate and speak freely in the political process.
Don't know how this is not in massive violation of the Constitution...oh, wait. Roberts.
Never mind. We're fucked.
When Double-U appointed Roberts the establishment must have laughed and laughed and laughed.
“require states to wait ten days after election day” to accept ballots.
This doesn't even make sense. How is it election day then? Isn't election day sort of by definition the day that voting is completed?
In another sense, they're saying the day stays the same but the deadline happens at the box rather than at the polling place.
There's no real reason to make the switch unless A) your local post office can't get the mail from your mailbox to your polling place in the time it takes to drive across the country ~6 times, B) you want to be able to count the votes, determine the outcome, and then inject or exclude pre-postmarked ballots before closing out the official count, or C) both of the above.
Yeah, it seems either retarded or ill-intended. But then I'm on the record as being generally opposed to making voting easier. People who don't care enough to make some effort shouldn't be encouraged to vote. Though I could get behind multiple polling days (where people can go to the poll and vote).
"Democrats' vagueness and hyperbole about what ERA passage would actually do—and their refusal to push for re-ratification (as Ginsburg preferred) rather than counting half-a-century-old votes as relevant—suggest this is more about politics than making a material difference for women."
Oh, they think it will provide extra support for Roe v. Wade, but if they descend into specifics like that it will kill the buzz of getting everyone to endorse "women's rights."
South Carolina lawmakers are trying to proactively address future emergency orders banning church services
Doesn't the constitution explicitly do this already. There isn't a fabricated panic exclusion, is there?
You have no standing to make this statement.
"A new documentary tells Reality Winner's story"
Wasn't that a famous racehorse?
No, just a common nag.
Awesome screen name

The reason they're not trying to start from scratch, though it would be constitutionally legitimate, is that the ERA would have no chance of being ratified.
It wouldn't get out of either chamber of Congress, and it would fall far short of the necessary number of states.
All you need to do is look at how the courts have, despite its defeat, imposed on the nation most of what opponents warned would happen if it was ratified, and you become terrified at what they'd do with an actual amendment to base their rulings on.
Perhaps we can just ratify the amendment through mail-in voting.
Actual fighting ability comes in second place, hence our losing a war with China of Taiwan.
The classic approach is to deploy troops from different classes or castes, e.g. use troops from the countryside to quell uprisings in the city. That way they already have a natural distaste for the other side.
All those pesky transportation and translating costs are avoided.
well stated GG and maybe people need to to start to wake up.
Do you know who our main targets were in Iraq? The Ba'ath Party members. We hunted them, arrested them, seized their homes for HQs, and used their seized vehicles to hunt their colleagues. Many of them were not guilty of anything, they were just involved with the Ba'ath party. They were all powerful, and then they were not. The US military arrested, killed, or captured all of the people that made the country work. Nobody thinks long term in a war or insurrection.
I sure hope that these politicians understand that when an insurrection starts, they and their families will be the main target. It is a wonderful free for all. Every citizen with a weapon and a gripe can silence his enemies and settle scores. You can grab a gun and a few friends and go mansion hunting. US politicians are fond of war from afar, they won't like it when their families are involved.
Democrats largely abandoned the white, blue collar middle class for the support of minorities, the kinds of groups that are supposed to support them for their social justice street cred. To the extent they sell that street cred short, I'm not sure it brings the white, blue collar, middle class back into the fold. The Democrats being hypocrites on social justice isn't a great selling point if you want to bring the white, blue collar, middle class back into the fold.
And because the Democrats are doing this on sexual harassment, specifically, I think it may hurt them especially hard with white suburban women. In fact, social justice themes may play better with white, suburban women than they do with some of the groups the social justice warriors are batting for. White, suburban women think racism and xenophobia are mean--and that suburban women should be believed.
If Cuomo survives as governor, I don't suspect that will play well with white, suburban women, who, for right now, are making all the difference in the polls.
Yeah, suburban women are swing voters. They can vote for the drug war to save the children from drugs and vote for the police to go into our inner cities like an occupying army to save minorities from the ravages of gangs. They can also vote against the drug war because it's mean and racist. They can go either way on a number of issues like that.
They're less likely to be susceptible to claims that voting for Democrats is about supporting women who've been victimized by sexual harassment and sexual assault when the Democrats keep a governor in a deep blue state like New York despite a rising tide of allegations that he's guilty of both sexual harassment and sexual assault.
"If anything, they double down because they have managed to avoid having to experience the consequences of their political preferences."
Suburban voters, explained.
They dont need any actual voters, now that voting is a virtual exercise, and they can ignore all election law "safeguards" and can actually be filmed in the process of creating votes at the election board, with absolutely no repercussions
Natural distaste, or hate structured through false rhetoric like "I can't breathe" or "hands up don't shoot"?
And murder, but that part doesn't matter
If it were strictly a partisan Republican recall, Newsom would have nothing to worry about or fight, since Republicans are outnumbered 2 to 1 in California. The problem is lots of people from every party want Newsom out.
"I don't care how many of my friends wives I need to bang. This recall will go down on me like a staffer's spouse in a backroom at French Laundry" - Gavin Newsom
"You might not have noticed it, but your brain did."
That was Trump's fault for his ineffective response to the virus.
Yeah, “natural” might not be the best adjective.
"I sure hope that these politicians understand that when an insurrection starts, they and their families will be the main target."
As I said back in November, expect to see Green Zone: D.C. Also expect to see as many media types, entertainers, and other courtiers as possible, trying to find some excuse why they should be able to live in one. Post-Scalise, and definitely post-1/6, politicians are a lot harder to get at. I doubt a senior editor at e.g., WNBC, is anywhere near as hard a target.
The Ba'ath Party is literally a Fascist party. This was under the auspices of deNazification parallels.
Don’t we already have “green zone DC”?
Was it you Geiger, or Red, who pointed out the curious timing of Tom Hanks very recently announcing his attempt to get dual citizenship with Greece for him and Rita Wilson?
I've said here for at least the last two years that Brazil, both the movie and country, is the desired end state for the people running this country. 'Course, that was pre-Bolsonaro...
We didn't in November.
And believe me, it can easily get a lot more stringent. See, for example, Royal Army posts near the Irish border during The Troubles. All that's needed is a really good excuse.

A bigger concern for me is that they are trying to permanently legalize vote harvesting. In WI they brought huge chunks of voters into the fold that make us pine for the low info voters of old and swung the state as a result.
