The Great Vaccine Fiasco
Federal predictions that 20 million Americans would be vaccinated by the end of 2020 were off by an order of magnitude.

Like so much of the government response to COVID-19, the rollout of vaccines has been beset by poor planning and bad management.
While vaccine distribution is underway, federal predictions that 20 million Americans would be vaccinated by the end of 2020 were off by an order of magnitude; the actual number was a bit more than 2 million. Eleven days into 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that only 9 million or so Americans had received their first doses. "It was a planning error, and I am responsible," U.S. Army General Gustave F. Perna, chief operations officer for the Trump administration's Operation Warp Speed vaccine program, said in December.
Perna was responding to state officials who complained that the federal government was slow to deliver vaccines and that they had nowhere else to turn. By pre-purchasing hundreds of millions of doses, the feds arguably stimulated production, but they also bypassed normal channels. That left them with a virtual monopoly, and they demonstrated all the speed and care characteristic of the U.S. Postal Service and the Veterans Affairs Department.
"Pfizer is not having any production issues with our COVID-19 vaccine, and no shipments containing the vaccine are on hold or delayed," the pharmaceutical company announced on December 17, as criticism mounted. "This week, we successfully shipped all 2.9 million doses that we were asked to ship by the U.S. Government to the locations specified by them. We have millions more doses sitting in our warehouse but, as of now, we have not received any shipment instructions for additional doses."
To be fair, there was plenty of blame to be shared by state and local officials. New York's Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo, threatened providers with huge fines and loss of their licenses if they bypassed government criteria for prioritizing vaccine recipients. When, inevitably, providers dumped doses rather than face penalties for letting people jump the list, he threatened new consequences. As Reason's Billy Binion noted, "Cuomo presented area hospitals with a double bind: Fail to use all of your vaccines and be fined up to $100,000, or vaccinate people out of order and be fined $1,000,000."
In Florida, state and county online reservation systems crashed and phone lines booted those who sought to make vaccination appointments. "Due to overwhelming demand, we have reached capacity with our COVID-19 vaccination for the community," the Broward County Board of Health announced on December 30. "Scheduling will resume in the coming weeks."
Of course, it wouldn't be a government program if unsavory political considerations didn't enter at some point. "In one of the most shocking moral misjudgments by a public body I have ever seen, the CDC invoked considerations of 'social justice' to recommend providing vaccinations to essential workers before older Americans even though this would, according to its own models, lead to a much greater death toll," wrote Yascha Mounk, a professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University. "The CDC was effectively about to recommend that a greater number of African-Americans die so that the share of African-Americans who receive the vaccine is slightly higher."
That proposal ultimately was rejected, again thanks to political considerations. "Governors are under enormous pressure from their constituents—especially older people, who vote in great numbers and face the highest risk of dying from the virus—to get the doses they receive into arms swiftly," The New York Times noted.
In mid-January, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced accelerated vaccine distribution through "more than 40,000 pharmacy locations from 19 chains and associations across the country." It seemed a logical move, given that pharmacies regularly administer vaccines and many have small medical clinics. Perhaps they should have played a larger role from the beginning?
Government red tape still threatens to hobble distribution. At a New York facility attempting to comply with vaccine requirements, USA Today reported, "it took 52 clicks on each person's digital medical record before the patient was ready to receive a shot." A spokeswoman for Virginia's Chesapeake Health Department noted that "the additional burden of the system, process, paperwork, policies, CDC, and budget is overwhelming" for many vaccine providers.
Once again, government planning has proven to be less a cure and more a competing disease.

The interesting followup to this article is that the lessons learned from this are exactly the opposite of what is implied in this article, at least in our new federal administration.
The Biden administration has pushed millions for new federal vaccination centers.. a process that is already weeks behind schedule and in any case could never hope to match programs like those in florida using pharmacy chains like CVS and Publix grocery stores, who have existing supply chains and hundreds of outlets.
They also concluded that, far from what one would think, "social justice" should be this primary consideration in all federal policy and action... So instead of getting rid of the folks who would mandate more people die, including more people of color, simply to ensure that folks die in racially equitable percentages.... They have ordered that all policy be similarly structured going forward.
It is almost as if they are fighting hard to prevent a colorblind society living in racial harmony. And it seems that federal control is more important to them than the ultimate outcome or costs.
Come on, what good is racial harmony if you are whoring for votes (or media clicks)?

What Von Moltke said, "No Battle plan survives the first shot" seems especially appropriate in this case. Letting the states set their own plan may have been a little slow at first, but each could see what worked and didn't. They've been adapting to better practices since. The result is vaccination rate double anything Biden promised for his first 100 days. We will reach Biden's 100 million doses this week. We passed the UK as a daily dose per 100 basis major nation leader. A Central government plan might've resembled New York. Give the Warp Speed crew their due and quit carping. Just look forward to 3+ million doses per day.

These people have pushed for policies that effectively enslave blacks and minorities for years to keep them dependent and voting Dem... If they could reinstate slavery and thereby somehow guarantee their ability to remain in power, they would coin a new name for slavery and start marketing their new "jobs for blacks" program.

Fiasco, my ass. It is nothing short of miraculous that this country was able to produce not one, not two, but THREE vaccines to treat a novel pathogen in less than a year.
The fiasco I see is biased Unreason writers.
Production and distribution are different things.
Balloon Maker....They are different. But you have to wonder about the competency of state officials who had MONTHS of advance notice that a vaccine was coming. You'd think they would exercise a little proactivity on distribution within their own state.
Ours is horrible. I was able to get it. Just barely as there are no new appointments. My wife was not. Our daughter was worried and has been frantically searching online. So this week they will drive 2 1/2 hours each way to a neighboring state to get her started.
My mother who lives in another state was only able to get it because we have family in the nursing home field and one of them had extra doses.
One thing to keep in mind is that first tier older people are not as sophisticated online where you look around to find vaccines. They may also have more limited transportation and mobility.
Echospinner, here in the People's Republic of NJ, the distribution of the vaccines has been an unmitigated disaster. The utter incompetence of the governor and the harpy we have as Health Commissioner is just staggering. It took them three months to figure out that maybe elderly people don't have internet access, or are not proficient users of the internet....to start a call center.
How many people have died from their incompetence? Answer: Thousands.
A year. They had a year to plan this.
Our daughter was worried
About a virus that has less effect on young people than herpes. Please, spare us the drama.
She was worried about her mother.
She worked online for days to get her 60+ mother to get her a vaccine. She is spending an entire day to get her over state lines to get one. Then there will need to be another for second dose. My daughter is not even in line.
I don’t do this often but you are an asshole.
You can't start distribution without production. So not sure why Reason is complaining about distribution in 2020 when production didn't start until late November.
You can plan for distribution and delivery before production. You can have all of that in place to roll out when the supply is there.
Are you sure that you read the article?
The government didn't create 3 vaccines. The government did hinder and is hindering distribution of these vaccines.
He said "country" not "government".
So then I have to repeat Will Nonya's question: Did he read the article?
The article talks about the government's fiasco, not the country as a whole
The statement that the country produced 3 new vaccines is true though.
Not exactly. These, like all big pharm companies are multinational. Pfizer for example partnered with Bio N Tech which is headquartered in Germany to develop and produce their vaccine.
Remember that the Reason staff includes a diversity of libertarians, including those who wish for a comprehensive government. When the feds don't deliver, they get sad.
Look, if you people won't trust Big Pharma and government when they tell you to take an experimental vaccine for an illness that rarely kills anybody under 70, then you don't understand (or deserve) freedom. Being a libertarian is supposed to mean that you trust anything anybody w/ a financial incentive to lie tells you, and it's supposed to mean that you really trust anything that big government and big business agree upon because we know that they NEVER lie to us. Blind faith is what built this country, and it's essential to maintaining our freedom.
If there's one thing COVID taught us, it's that government and experts are always right about public health issues. From masking to lockdowns, they never made a mistake or changed their minds - that's why blind faith is so reasonable & rewarding.
Like central banking, vaccines are something that works as intended w/o fail and only crazy people doubt either.

It's totally not true that Covid-19 doesn't kill people under 70. Adults over 65 are also at higher risk for becoming severely ill or impaired, and even dying from it. Also, there are young, healthy people under 30, and younger, even, who've been permanently damaged (i. e. cardiac, neurologically, or pulmonary) by Covid-19, and even died from it also. Moreover, that's not as rare as you may think, either. There was even a 12 year old girl who went on a ventilator as a result of having contacted Covid-19, and eventually died from it.
Vaccines, for stuff, including Covid-19 are an absolute necessity for people of all ages, and that's all there is to it.
It’s totally not true that Covid-19 doesn’t kill people under 70.
Funny, that's not what he actually wrote, you deceitful sack of shit.
Moreover, that’s not as rare as you may think, either.
This is a lie, too. Everything else you cited are cases on the margins.
Fiasco, my ass. It is nothing short of miraculous that this country was able to produce not one, not two, but THREE vaccines to treat a novel pathogen in less than a year.
The fiasco I see is biased Unreason writers.
I agree. Ron "I like the taste of Doom" Bailey, as part of his pseudo-libertarian schtick supporting mandatory vaccinations, has been saying for years that some sort of uber-black death virus is lurking in the wings.
Setting aside the biological and epidemiological evidence against such a thing, the fabric of our society has been rewoven so many times since 1918 that such a disease couldn't possibly have the same effect. Even under China's censorship, we knew about the virus 3-6 mos. before it got to our shores. 3 vaccines in less than a year for a virus that doesn't kill 99+% of the people who contract it and pretty much only kills people over the age of 65; could you imagine if it killed even 5% of everyone who contracted it? Or even 5% of children? Piles of bodies would be all over the news/interwebs and you'd have people throwing themselves at research, testing, supply chains...
Yeah, I am gonna have to agree. This is a weird thing to be complaining about. Sure, the vaccine rollout is slower than expected, but the fact that we have these vaccines less than a year after the virus was discovered and that millions of people have been vaccinated is amazing. And it's not because of government. The fuckers at the FDA could not be bothered to expedite the approval hearing when thousands of people were dying each day.
Expedite the approval hearing? Why should there even be an "approval hearing" of outside experts? Can it be that the FDA is playing CYA so that they could say "We didn't approve it" if the vaccine turned out not to work? Heaven forfend a bureaucrat should ever show the courage of his convictions, since none of them have either courage or convictions.
A lot of the Reason writers are just shallow assholes. They pretend to believe in things, but they actually don’t believe in anything and are just trolling 24/7.
This one complains about the fastest, most successful vaccine program in world history. Something that would have been impossible even 10 years ago. Something that is impossible for every other country in the world.
What a complete tool.
While vaccine distribution is underway, federal predictions that 20 million Americans would be vaccinated by the end of 2020 were off by an order of magnitude
I don't know what you mean by "federal predictions", but there were plenty of federal officials predicting we wouldn't have a vaccine at all - and if we did, they sure as hell weren't taking it if Trump were in favor of it. I'm rather surprised you haven't heard of that, it was all over the news.
"I don’t know what you mean by “federal predictions”
And the reason you, and the rest of us do not know is because the article offered zero substantiation of that assertion. No quote, no name, no link.
And that is because it is a gross misstatement of what was actually said.
This is the actual quote from Perna:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/23/health/vaccine-rollout-slow-data-lags/index.html
Misleading lazy axe grinding and article recycling by Toosilly.
What a fucking hack.
BTW, by the end of December they had indeed allocated 16 million doses to the states.
Sure, it's only 3/4 of what they wanted to achieve, but it's a damned sight better than what Toolsilly would have you believe.
They passed 20 million vaccinations on Jan. 23, three days after the inauguration. See how everything got all better after Joe took office?
The real fiasco are the writers for Unreason.
Donald Trump is the whole reason that the Covid-19 began running really rampant and out of control here in the United States, causing over a half a million deaths here in this country. He screwed the American people by deliberately lying to them, and laughed Covid-19 off as a goddamned hoax, which it turned out not to be. A lot of suckers out there believed him, which was unfortunate. Moreover, Donald Trump fired all the members of the Government anti-pandemic coalition, as well, and refused to do anything about Covid-19 back in December of 2019 and January/February of 2020, when it was still relatively easy to contain and control. He didn't give a shit about anybody but himself. What's even more disgusting is that 74 million people were stupid enough to support and believe Donald Trump, which was pathetic.
Everything Is So Terrible And Unfair! (tm)
This is a case study in socialism -- 100% government rationing. You can't pay for a vaccine even if you want to.
Lessons learned?
Unfortunately the lessons people seem to be learning is that we didn't socialism hard enough
If the government doesn't run it it won't be "fair" enough?
Once again, government planning has proven to be less a cure and more a competing disease.
Trump made it clear that the states were going to take the lead on vaccine distribution, and yet many states were scrambling at the last minute to develop plans for vaccine distribution. Just as many states are scrambling right now to develop plans for re-opening. What the fuck have they been doing for the past year? It's obvious from the fact that much of this shit is being announced via governors issuing executive orders that the legislatures and "the experts" aren't necessarily involved in this, it's just one person reacting to political pressure and it's got nothing to do with "the science". (Witness, for example, Gavin Newsom announcing stringent lockdowns in response to "the numbers", which you were not allowed to see, and then announcing re-openings when the numbers hadn't changed a bit - except for the number of signatures on a recall petition.) It's obvious our "leaders" aren't leading, they're following. They're following the polling numbers and that's all they give a shit about. Nobody is thinking ahead and developing plans for what's coming down the pike, they're just reacting to whoever is screaming the loudest.
"Nobody is thinking ahead and developing plans for what’s coming down the pike, they’re just reacting to whoever is screaming the loudest."
And that is the problem at all levels, from your local city council to Congress. From vaccine distribution to fiscal policy. No one is going to step up, exhibit any kind of real leadership, and gore their own ox as necessary and essential as that may be.
Two options:
1. It keeps running this way until the whole country breaks down.
2. We take back control from an out of count government before it does.
Solution? Constitutional convention, restricted to specific agendas including balancing the budget [at least make them stop digging the hole we are in even deeper] and term limits.
Thoughts?
Solution? Constitutional convention, restricted to specific agendas including balancing the budget [at least make them stop digging the hole we are in even deeper] and term limits.
Thoughts?
No way. See the election. See Afghanistan. See the budget. The good outcome is that we'll get balanced budgets and term limits after gender equality and social justice is achieved. I don't disagree with a convention or the ideas you're putting forward, but at this time/in response to this you're bargaining with the executioners.
"The good outcome is that we’ll get balanced budgets and term limits after gender equality and social justice is achieved."
So, never?
My point exactly.
The good outcome is never. The bad outcome is a Constitutional convention that ends up granting citizenship to anyone who serves in the administration's armed services or some similar situation specifically designed to lead to a shooting solution where you/we lose.
Sounds hopeless; maybe it is, and we just keep our heads lower and lower until we are underground; but, cynic that I am, I am not there.
You're ignoring the fact that a Constitutional Convention has to be called by the legislatures of two-thirds of the states and any amendments it proposes have to be ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states. The specter of a Constitutional Convention running amok is just a bogy to scare the children.
You must think this is old reason, the one that used to believe in federalism and not having a federal solution for everything.
Right; as with the STURDY act story just last week; when a corner cupboard nearly crushed my sweet little daughter some thirty years ago, I cursed my carelessness and anchored it to the wall; solved my own problem; it didn't even occur to me that the furniture in my home might pose a problem for Congress to solve.
What the fuck have they been doing for the past year?
Planning. Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever!
"It was a planning error, and I am responsible," U.S. Army General Gustave F. Perna, chief operations officer for the Trump administration's Operation Warp Speed vaccine program, said in December.
"Plans are worthless, but planning is essential."
"Russian's don't take a dump - son - without a plan"
Everyone has a plan in till they get punched in the mouth
-Mike tyson
I never planned for that.
- Evander Holyfield
And yet, we are still expected to follow the "guidelines" of the CDC regarding this one virus. They insist everyone get vaccinated, yet ignore the fact of vaccinations when insisting no one be allowed to live a life even after vaccination.
Why would people take an experimental vaccine (no long term study of side effects) when it does not allow you to go back to school, back to work, or even ride a bus?
I think the CDC is competing with the teacher unions for the 'most stupid things about the Communist Chinese Virus' award.
Fauci's not at CDC, so you need to put him on your list too.
Why would people take an experimental vaccine (no long term study of side effects) when it does not allow you to go back to school, back to work, or even ride a bus?
And even this looks right past the last 50 yrs. of Civil Rights.
Why should anyone have to take *any* vaccine, experimental or tested, safe or dangerous, to ride a bus? Can we force some group of people to undergo syphillis testing before we allow them to sit at the front of the bus?
20 million was always a Trump number - a gratuitous lie. No one really believed it.
Just like his shitty GDP numbers became the "greatest economy of all time".
Aren't you the one who masturbates to kiddie porn?
Yes.
Weren't you one of the ones citing CDC and leftists saying 2022 was the earliest we would have a vaccine?
Yes.
They were shooting for 20 million doses available by the end of December. They 'only' managed 16 million.
But, by all means, call it a gratuitous lie.
If there isn't a lie in there somewhere, it's ain't turd.
The great vaccine fiasco is much worse now, and Reason has been deceiving its readers about immunity.
Since 8.9% of Americans have tested positive for covid, and since CDC estimates that 4.6 times more Americans were infected (than tested positive), an estimated 41% of Americans are already immune from covid (as just 11 cases of reinfection are known).
But Fauci, CDC, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Schumer and virtually all of the news media have falsely claimed that immunity can only be conferred by vaccines.
While 17.7% of Americans have received a first dose of covid vaccine (and 9.2% have received a second dose), covid vaccines have only conferred immunity to about 9.2% of Americans to date.
But since about 41% of Americans who received a covid vaccine were already immune (due to previous infection), and since about 90% of Americans who received a 2nd covid vaccine were already immune, indicating that a covid vaccines have only conferred immunity to 10.3% of Americans.
The good news is that an estimated 51.6% of Americans are now immune from covid.
To calculate, the following equation was utilized.
(.0898 x 4.6 = .413) + (.177 x .59 x .9 = .094%) + (.092 x .1 = .9%) = 41.3% + 9.4% + .9% = 51.6%
Seems like nobody in the news media business understands even the basics of virology or immunology, as the biggest LIE about covid is that only vaccines can confer immunity.
Sen Rand Paul told this very same thing to Fauci months ago during a Senate hearing, but the news media immediately attacked Paul by claiming he's only an eye doctor.
And when Scott Atlas said the same truths about herd immunity, he was demonized by dozens/hundreds of propagandists who deceitfully call themselves journalists.
Correction, the sentence above
"covid vaccines have only conferred immunity to about 9.2% of Americans to date."
should have stated
"covid vaccines have only conferred immunity to about 10.3% of Americans to date."
But Fauci, CDC, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Schumer and virtually all of the news media have falsely claimed that immunity can only be conferred by vaccines.
And next year they'll say that everybody has to get a new shot due to "mutations" and "variations". cha-ching!
The potential for mutations is what Fauci et al will use to justify what will soon be their new standard for opening everything up, which will be absolutely zero new infections for 90 days. Mark my words. Those Sunday morning talk shows are not going to book themselves.
By next year, we will be up to 5 masks.
Vaccinating those who have already had C19 is ridiculous. I've had it with a positive anti-body test yet my doc tried to get me to take the vaccine. I politely told him to fuck off.
Thank you. I had this discussion with my doctor yesterday. When I suggested that people who have had COVID should be moved to the very back of the vaccination line, he replied that we weren't sure how long the natural immunity from prior infection lasted, to which I responded that we know that people who have neither had COVID or received a vaccine have zero immunity (not strictly true). He had no response to that.
Again though, we don't know how many people have been infected with COVID and received the vaccine, but it's certainly not a trivial number. My stepmom was telling me yesterday about a friend of hers who had COVID and got a vaccination. I told her that her friend was a jerk in this case and took a vaccination away from someone for whom it would actually have been useful. She begrudgingly agreed.
I love that you keep bringing this up, since it needs to be repeated over and over.
But regarding your calcs, if I have this right:
(.0898 x 4.6 = .413) - Estimate of natural immunity
(.177 x .59 x .9 = .094%) - First time vaccines, uninfected pop
(.092 x .1 = .9%) - Second vaccines, unimmunized by first
I think 4.6x is probably high at this point and will be revised downwards as data from the winter waves comes in. I also think you're overestimating the efficacy on the first shot, though I doubt that matters to the end result, and it looks like you're estimating that there is 100% immunity conferred after two shots, which shouldn't be.
I also wonder if there's a messaging weakness in saying immunity, since that sets the expectation of zero confirmed tests which is likely impossible.
Responding to claptrap, CDC's most recent estimate is 4.6 times more Americans were infected with covid than tested positive in 2020. Until/unless CDC changes its estimate, that's the number I'm relying upon.
And since an estimated 41% of Americans were infected with covid, about 41% of vaccines were given to people who were already immune (as I'm not aware of any state or medical service provider that has removed previously infected people from their vaccine priority protocols).
Since several recent studies indicate that 1st dose vaccines have been 85% - 93% effective at conferring immunity, my estimate presumed a 90% effectiveness rate.
My estimate also presumed that 2nd doses of vaccines confer immunity to the 10% who didn't get immunity after their first dose.
But I made a mistake in my equation for 2nd dose recipients, as about 41% of them were previously infected with covid (and thus immune), The correct equation for estimating immunity conferred by 2nd doses of vaccine would be (.092 x .59 x .1 = .0054), which means that 2nd doses of the covid vaccines have only conferred immunity to 0.5% of Americans so far (instead of the 0.9% I previously stated).
So the following equations are relevant for estimating immunity.
(.0898 x 4.6 = .413) Natural Immunity due to Infection
(.177 x .59 x .9 = .094) Immunity conferred by 1st vaccine dose (.092 x .59 x .1 = .005) Immunity conferred by 2nd vaccine dose
(41.3% + 9.4% + .5% = 51.2%) Total Immunity from Covid
Since about 9.4% of Americans have obtained immunity from their first vaccine dose (out of 17.7% of Americans who got their first dose), and since 0.5% of Americans have obtained immunity from their 2nd vaccine dose (out of 9.4% of Americans who received a 2nd dose), 10.3% of Americans have obtained immunity from vaccines.
But that also means 62% of covid vaccines have been given to Americans who were already immune (.168 / .271 = .62), and as such were wasted. Had those vaccines been given instead to 17% of Americans that are NOT immune, we'd be far closer to herd immunity.
The first sentence in my previous posting intended to state.
Since about 9.4% of Americans have obtained immunity from their first vaccine dose (out of 17.7% of Americans who got their first dose), and since 0.5% of Americans have obtained immunity from their 2nd vaccine dose (out of 9.4% of Americans who received a 2nd dose), 9.9% of Americans have obtained immunity from vaccines (as 9.4% + .5% = 9.9%).
Thanks for the modification to your calculations. I do hope that some of the people who have had COVID have foregone the vaccine in favor of giving it to someone for whom it would actually be useful, and that the 41% number is high. How many people are as conscientious SUUTC above?
but the news media immediately attacked Paul by claiming he’s only an eye doctor.
Blissfully or willfully unaware that Dr. Li Wenliang, who was reprimanded and forced by the Chinese government to apologize for discussing the original outbreak in his hospital in Wuhan, was also an opthalmologist.
Dr Li saw something which had been missed. No pun intended.
As usual
If by the middle of last year, the feds had contracted with Walmart, CVS, and a few other established logistics companies, we would probably have reached 80% vaccinations by now, at a fraction of the cost.
Of course, our political and media attention whores would have gone hungry.
And the howls of outrage from the left would have been deafening.
By this summer I suspect a majority of us will have completed the vaccine series or have natural immunity.
But the next shoe to fall will be that children have not been approved for the vaccine; while we may claim "herd immunity" and want to throw off the excessive government yoke, it will be "for the children" that you must continue to mask and avoid interactions [Pfizer has been approved for minors 16 and older, and this is not expected to begin until Fall 2021].
And if you point out the apparent natural resistance of children to COVID and the scarcity of serious consequences, it will be "well if it saves one child" and sorry you hate children.
I think this is two fold; 1 Government has found new powers and is, as always, very reluctant to relinquish them and 2. we are becoming a society that is increasingly averse to risk of any kind.
By this summer I suspect a majority of us will have completed the vaccine series or have natural immunity.
By January 2020, the majority of us were going to survive the virus without a vaccine.
3. Manners trumps everything. Some, for the sake of argument, politeness, political correctness, or due to, uh, intellectual distraction take the risk-averse's arguments at face value. The few who don't are labeled as deplorable bigots and told to STFU.
I have no problem being regarded as deplorable; might as well get used to it and disregard it; why give provocateurs the power to affect and influence you?
exactly this.
simpler question when has the government ever in history ever done anything it said on time. I think the answer is never. prediction are like conspiracies everyone has one and never are the two observed
The main problem was corrected by better Americans (in November, effective January), but I would not expect a disaffected anti-government crank writing for anti-social malcontents to apprehend or acknowledge that point.
So definitely not you.
Get bent, fuckface.
>>the federal government was slow to deliver vaccines
they did get it created and in arms in under a year and all.
"...in under a year and all."
So credit the Trump Administration?
sure, doesn't matter to me. I hated even typing out props to the feds in the first place
also I would credit the companies more than the feds. all they did was throw our money at J&J and Moderna
lets not forget that governors like Newsom were refusing to release a vaccine created under Trump without the state requiring its own "scientific" methods of approval before releasing . California was purposely going to slow down the release out of pure TDS
Something else not being mentioned in all of this.
The only reason we had any doses to allocate immediately after FDA approval was because the Trump administration took a very serious risk and greenlight mass production of both the Pfizer and Moderna products even before their respective final data submissions to the FDA. If those products had failed then billions would have gone down the drain (and some Reason author would no doubt be cackling and cawing over it.)
Or, had they instead waited until FDA approval was granted to ramp up production, the we would just be starting to roll out vaccinations right about now.
Toolsilly is such a fucking hack. Lazy one at that.
'Like so much of the government response to [anything] the rollout of vaccines has been beset by poor planning and bad management.'
Fixed.
Why don't you have a drink ya big pussy
They should have just let walmart, cvs, walgreens etc do this from the beginning, but government parasites like the cdc etc want to be in control of your life and keep you frightened.
With a bobblehead president who can't even remember his sec def's name a minute after just saying it and with a teleprompter in front of him, I am expecting more of this. While this pandemic might be over (it was over a long time ago for those of us who ignored it and went about our lives) rest assured the fed government will find a way to keep the panic going.
Oh and Biden family. The dogs are great. Are they just a prop for you?
You did not know that they are territorial? When you relocate to a new territory with unfamiliar people around what happens. So a biting incident which is rare for a family dog happened. Then they sent the dogs back to Delaware.
The "order of magnitude" difference is hardly a valid statement when the time difference was less than a month. The ramp up period was slightly slower than hoped, but some of that was the logistics of getting vaccines that needed special handling into qualified centers with appropriate storage facilities.
This is a just article. There was no "fiasco". The real "fiasco" would have occurred if Trump and let the FDA have their business-as-usual way of approving the vaccines for usage. We'd now have zero people vaccinated.
"this is an unjust article".
If you think what we had for the last four years was a "government", you lost the plot some time ago.
Even after vaccination, they are not 100% sure that we are immune from this. We have to wear mask and keep social distance for safety. Then what is the benefit of this.
As these vaccines have not been fully tested, and the virus is probably not that much deadlier than the seasonal flu, I question the wisdom of vaccinating so many millions of people, especially those at low risk from the virus.
So I think the “slow” rollout is a good thing - a “blessing in disguise”. It gives us more time to see how safe these vaccines are (as well as seeing how effective they are).
Your second claim is false. You can tell because of the body count.
Covid is about 4x worse than influenza in morbidity and mortality. Over 500,000 deaths in one year. It is the third leading cause of death in the US this year. That is an astonishing number for a new infectious disease.
Let alone the number of people with severe illness requiring hospitalization and long lasting effects.
You can do whatever you wish but most of us understand that the risk of vaccination is by far lower than the risk from this very dangerous bug. Not only that but you can put others at risk.
C’mon soldier. When you can roll up your sleeve.
The vaccines have proved pretty safe so far, yes, but it’s too early to tell - remember thalidomide? You can never be completely sure beforehand, that’s why caution is advisable.
The number of deaths due to Covid-19 IS high, but I don’t trust that 500,000, and it includes the consequences of some predictably bad decisions. And very few of those deaths have been of younger people.
Let's step back a bit and consider that we had the vaccine developed back in January of 2020. With government regulations, we were prohibited from using it for almost a year. If Chick-Fil-A was in charge, every one of us would have been vaccinated by mid Summer 2020, and would have a gotten a complementary chicken sandwich...
There was an article recently pointing out how government guidelines are always overly cautious, so the continued masking and distancing guidelines are not surprising on that front.
The problem is that politicians and a whole class of pundits take those overly cautious guidelines and treated them as the minimum level of caution, and worse, issue executive orders turning voluntary guidelines into enforceable law
Come on now! People are clamoring to make appointments for the Covid-19 vaccines, and it's pretty tough to get them. Donald Trump put the United States in this mess when he lied to the American people about the Covid-19 being under control (when it wasn't), and laughing the Covid-19 virus off as a hoax.
Yep. Just like the flu vaccine. If everyone else gets it, I don’t need it.
Enjoy your Covid-19 infection, sucker!
Yep. Just like the flu vaccine.
If everyone else gets it,I don’t need it.Grandpa didn't get it. Died of a ruptured aorta. Other grandpa didn't get it, died of heart failure brought on by acute sepsis. Grandma didn't get it, died of organ/renal failure at the age of 98.
It's been years since I took a sick day from work and I don't know that I've ever taken more than one at a time.
Curb your genetic privileges.
Over 1/4 of all Covid related deaths have occurred in the nursing home population. Rest assured that at least another 1/4 to 1/3 of the total deaths were people of similar age/infirmity but who did happen to be a resident of a skilled nursing facility.
laughing the Covid-19 virus off as a hoax.
Why do progressives lie as naturally as they breathe?
Thanks, I will! It won't be any worse than the nasty flu bug I got seven years ago that jacked me up for about month.
