Brickbat: House Call

Following complaints from some parents, Ritenour, Missouri, school district Superintendent Chris Kilbride says he may reconsider the policy of sending armed police officers to the homes of students who are failing classes to discuss the reasons why they are failing. Kilbride says cops have conducted about 1,500 such visits since August 2020. Kilbride says the school system will form an advisory committee on the matter to get input from parents and students.

I think however cops are actually the "tip of the spear" for a rapidly expanding mode of general authoritarianism, that of course has grown exponentially during the pandemic. The police have a legitimate mission, but this is obviously creeping out of control due to institutions like schools that make it their policy [no judgement, no responsibility required, "we're just following the rules"] to utilize them inappropriately; now the big question is where does this bs stop, and how bad will it have to get before the largely disengaged and complacent electorate feels the pinch and pushes back? Or to put it another way, how long will the frog have to boil before it feels the heat; and then will it be too late?

From the quotes in the article, the impression given is that the police officer was the one taking the lead in discussing the failing grades, and speaking as if he was interrogating a suspect, and the counselor was just there. I can sort of see the officer being there as a bodyguard, but the cop should not have direct role in the schoolwork conversation.

Median home value is $94,000 and almost all residents do live in their own homes (less that 20% live in multi-family dwellings). Violent crime rates are at or below state averages and not statistically different from national averages.

Sorry, I don't even see a credible argument for the officer being there as a bodyguard. Maybe if there is a specific case with a known bad actor (such as a parent that the school staff knows to have anger management issues) but not as a general policy. That is simply unjustified. Not only is it an unnecessary expense, it's arguably an unconstitutional intrusion on the family's privacy.

Local news (very liberal St. Louis Post Dispatch) chose to portray this as a negative. Cops were doing this as part of door to door community outreach.
The parents interviewed wanted to focus exclusively on who was at the door, and what they were wearing (day uniform which included sidearms).
As long as blacks continue sidestep personal responsibility for their own outcomes (going to school and graduating from high school able to read, write and do basic math) then they will continue to fail in life.

Official fall 2020 enrollment, according to the state’s “Count Day” on the third Wednesday in September was 6,198 students in grades K-12. Last year’s K-12 official fall enrollment was 6,381.
2. For this year’s official fall count on Sept. 16, 2020, all K-12 Ritenour students were in a full virtual learning environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
3. Ritenour continues to be one of the most diverse school districts in the state with no ethnic/racial majority. Enrollment demographics show:
