Brickbat: Quick-Tempered

When Joseph Bennett noticed some Jeffersonville, Kentucky, police officers near a McDonald's, he decided to stop and videotape them. Bennett was standing across the parking lot, well away from the officers, when some of them approached him and demanded ID. Bennett said he refused, and no sooner did the words leave his mouth than one officer punched him. Bennett was handcuffed and cited for menacing and resisting arrest. Jeffersonville Mayor Bill Dieruf claims a witness identified Bennett as someone possibly involved in the check fraud officers were investigating. A police spokesperson says he was not and that the department is investigating the matter.

Oh yeah! It’s why they’re all so muscular and yet have unbelievably low levels of body fat. Ever see a fat cop or one who wasn’t an explosively fast sprinter? I think not.
Technically yes they are, so long as the cop has a prescription for them

When someone calls you Quick-Tempered, they mean that you get irritated easily. If you find yourself yelling at people various times a day, you may be irascible — and you may want to take up reflection. Quarrelsome people are sensitive and a little bit inconstant.

No qualified immunity for these cops. Sorry boys, you don't get to bash people cuz you get pissed.
Then why be a cop?
Sorry boys, you don’t get to bash people cuz you get pissed.
I thought that was one of the main reasons for becoming a cop in the first place. The other reasons being getting to shoot dogs without getting into any kind of legal trouble, and occasionally getting to shoot unarmed perps (with "perp" defined as "anyone a cop is interacting with for any reason at any given time").
Although that last one is a little bit dicey these days, unless you make sure to only shoot white men. Then again, if you do happen to shoot a black person the riots that will undoubtedly ensue will ensure plenty of overtime hours as well as many more opportunities to shoot someone, so... silver linings and all that.
"No qualified immunity for these cops."
Are you sure about that? Can you cite a case where a cop walked across a parking lot to punch an uninvolved and observing citizen for simply refusing to provide ID so that these cops would have known it was a constitutional no-no?
Jeffersonville Mayor Bill Dieruf claims a witness identified Bennett as someone possibly involved in the check fraud officers were investigating.
Either that or a witness claimed the guy smelled like marijuana or claimed he had a busted taillight or claimed he made a furtive movement, one of those things. All we know for sure is that it was an anonymous witness.
Charge the officer with filing a false report and perjury.
In a world without a State monopoly on being police, that would happen. Occupational licensing should disappear for police, lawyers, doctors, everybody; let Joe Schmoe hire himself out as a cop to charge these rogue State cops (but I repeat myself!) with crimes.

That spokesperson better get with the program.
Ok, fine; piss off some cops [or anyone for that matter] and you may well be in the right but you're still asking for an ass kicking.
Guess it all comes down to whether you think it's worth it.
Hrm...
"Then they came for innocent observers with cell phone cameras, but I did not speak out for I was not an innocent observer with a cell phone camera"
A bit on the long side, but I think it fits the feel.
Pissing off the government or its officers doesn’t give them an excuse to kick ass. In fact, they should be jailed for abusing the power that they have by virtue of their work.
"Guess it all comes down to whether you think it’s worth it."
What a profound summation on all social interactions. Too bad it ignores the normal balance of an equal interaction whereby the other party is permitted to violently respond in defense from anyone attempting to answer an "asking" with an ass kicking. Beat it, serf.
A U. of Texas rent-a-cop was hassling a student for (get this!) riding a bike on campus! I stood nearby watching Barney Fife harangue the kid. This deeply bothered Barney. He demanded to know what I was doing and didn't like "witnessing you" as an answer. The kid was released with an uppity scolding. Heisenberg couldn't have designed a better experiment.
