The Media Do Not Want You To Read, Share, or Discuss The New York Post's Hunter Biden Scoop
Journalists should correct the story rather than pretend it doesn't exist.

On Wednesday, the New York Post published an attention-catching original report: "Smoking-gun email reveals how Hunter Biden introduced Ukrainian businessman to VP dad." In the previously unreleased email, which was allegedly sent on April 17, 2015, an executive with Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company, thanks Hunter Biden for "giving an opportunity" to meet Joe Biden, according to the New York Post.
It's a story that merits the attention of other journalists, political operatives, national security experts, and also the public at large—not least of all because there are serious questions about its accuracy, reliability, and sourcing. And yet many in the media are choosing not just to ignore the story, but to actively encourage others to suppress any discussion of it.
Indeed, two mainstream reporters who acknowledged (and criticized) the Post's scoop—The New York Times' Maggie Haberman and Politico's Jake Sherman—faced thunderous denunciation on Twitter from Democratic partisans simply for discussing the story. Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden accused Haberman of promoting disinformation, and New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg told Sherman that he was helping nefarious conservative activists "launder this bullshit into the news cycle." Historian Kevin Kruse asked why they were "amplifying" the story.
Note that both Haberman and Sherman raised serious questions about the veracity of the story, questions that certainly deserve answers. According to the New York Post, the email was obtained from the hard drive of a computer that may or may not have belonged to Hunter Biden. Someone allegedly gave the laptop to a computer repair store owner in Delaware in 2019. The FBI took possession of the laptop in December 2019, according to the New York Post—but not before the store owner copied the hard drive and sent it to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, an attorney for President Donald Trump and a central figure in the Trump-Ukraine-Biden kerfuffle. Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon then learned about the email and contacted the New York Post.
Giuliani and Bannon are political operatives with a long history of shady activity, so the fact that they were the intermediary sources for this story does raise red flags. But that doesn't mean the story is untrue. For what it's worth, the New York Post included photographs from the hard drive that allegedly confirms its authenticity. However, even if everything contained within the story turned out to be true, it still would not prove that the sought-after meeting with Joe Biden actually took place. A spokesperson for Biden said on Wednesday that according to Biden's schedule, he never met with the Burisma official.
This is the work of journalism—to ask questions, to probe, to find and share the truth. Haberman and Sherman were right to let their audiences know that the New York Post story exists, and they were right to challenge it. Many others in the media apparently believe the public cannot be trusted with such a challenging article. They have not merely shamed people for sharing it online, but also want to make it difficult for people to read the report at all.
Facebook Communications Director Andy Stone, a former Democratic staffer, announced that the social media platform would limit the article's distribution pending a fact-checker's review. He directed users to Facebook policy, which states that "in many countries, including in the US, if we have signals that a piece of content is false, we temporarily reduce its distribution pending review by a third-party fact-checker."
While Facebook is within its rights to take action against content it believes is factually misleading, this seems like a tough standard to enforce evenly. News articles in the mainstream press frequently contain information that is thinly or anonymously sourced, and sometimes proves to be inaccurate. It's one thing for social media platforms to take swift action against viral content that is very obviously false or incendiary, like conspiracy theories about coronavirus miracle cures or voter fraud. It's quite another for the platform to essentially make itself a gatekeeper of legitimate journalism, or a very selective media watchdog that appears to be more concerned about bad reporting when it comes from right-leaning outlets than left-leaning outlets, given the partisan leanings of social media company's internal policy setters.
The obvious result will be a double standard, and an unsustainable one: The right will claim (correctly) that social media companies are biased against questionable conservative content, while the left will claim (also correctly) that plenty of misinformation eludes the moderators. Of course, the oft-proposed solution to the problems with platform content curation is to reform or repeal Section 230, which immunizes online platforms from some lawsuits. This idea is popular with everybody from Trump and Biden to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R–Mo.), even though the obvious result of removing tech platform's liability protection would be even more aggressive moderation. New York Post op-ed editor Sohrab Ahmari tweeted that Facebook's handling of the Hunter Biden scoop makes the case for modifying Section 230, but without Section 230, Facebook would—for legal reasons—be even more reticent about letting users share unverified claims.
Such an outcome would be bad for a free and open society, for the same reason that it is wrong for the mainstream media to attempt to keep the public wholly ignorant of stories they would rather not tell. The information will get out, and it's better for journalists to contextualize—to add to our understanding—rather than pretend it doesn't exist.
In defending his decision to publish the Steele dossier, which contained unverified, dubious, and speculative information, then-BuzzFeed News Editor in Chief Ben Smith (now a media critic for The New York Times) wrote the following: "You trust us to give you the full story; we trust you to reckon with a messy, sometimes uncertain reality." That's a lesson the entire media should take to heart, and apply evenly, no matter the inconvenience of the narrative.

Correct article:

So weird how the buzz words that the writers at this publication regurgitated straight from the NYT editorial page during the hilariously wrong Russia Fever Dreams conspiracy theory like "election interference" and "threat to democracy" and "threat to a free press" is no where to be found in Robby's story.
Remember, the "independent thinkers" who regurgitate NYT conspiracy theories uncritically ("muh...Russia" and "muh..Kavanaugh is a gang rapist") at Reason freaked out over Facebook memes. They're pretty chill about censoring reporters, though. So weird. Almost like they're just unprincipled white progressives.

They are just unprincipled progressives, not necessarily white. There are many non-white progressives in the media, like Joy Read and Don Lemon. Bringing the completely irrelevant racial dimension into focus does not help your argument. Your argument is otherwise sound.

I have an idea Robby: How about you actually report on the details of the accusations against Joe, Hunter, and family?
You repeatedly attempt to frame the story as if it is not legitimate because "sourcing." But you never actually say a single word that indicates that there is anything inaccurate about either the accusations or the sourcing.
So let's hear it: Why is this story, with multiple on-the-record sources and clear evidence of high-level corruption not a big deal? Please explain.
Oh, wait. I forgot. You're not trying to report on it. You're trying to lend Reason just enough credibility ("See, we reported on the Biden laptop story, see all the articles we wrote about how it was kinda bullshit that the media was treating a bullshit story so badly?") to keep your readers from seeing that in fact, Reason is an Operation Mockingbird mouthpiece.
Now that's a headline!
What is brilliant about it is that it gets around Facebook's algorithms and effectively keeps them from censoring the story. Facebook can censor the original story but they can't censor the story about Facebook doing that. And anyone who reads the story about Facebook necessarily then sees the original story.
Next step, suspend the NY post presence on all facebook products.

If the Senate becomes overly active, Twitter may block all the senators. What I don't understand is why senators and POTUS are using Twitter and not Parler? Twitter is not a monopoly. If POTUS left Twitter and went to Parler, millions would follow. Twitter would cease to be a relevant platform in a week. I think that such a move and an inevitable crash of Twitter that would follow it would be a very good thing for demonstrating the power of the free market.
The two biggest complaints I've heard about Parler is that the user interface kind of sucks, and you have to be on Parler to see anything on Parler. Those seem to be its two biggest obstacles to replacing or even supplementing Twitter.
A story saying "The NY Post is reporting XXX" is factually true, so long as the NY Post actually reported XXX. It matters not if XXX is true, partly true, or a complete work of fiction. So there's no reason to cancel such an article by "Fact-checkers" since it is 100% true.
I recall a "National Enquirer" editor saying something like that. If they publish an article saying "Bobby Jo says she saw Elvis at the Burger King", you can be sure Bobby Jo said that. She might be schizophrenic and off her meds, but she said that...

Apophasis. The easy way around many "rules" like Facebooks.
"Apophasis is a sly debater's trick, a way of sneaking an issue into the discussion while maintaining plausible deniability. It should come as no surprise, then, that the roots of apophasis lie in the concept of denial-the word was adopted into English from Late Latin, where it means "repudiation," and derives from the Greek apophanai, meaning "to deny." (Apophanai, in turn, comes from apo-, meaning "away from" or "off," and phanai, meaning "to say.") This particular rhetorical stunt is also known by the labels preterition and paraleipsis (which is a Greek word for "omission"), but those words are rarer than apophasis. Incidentally, don’t confuse apophasis with apophysis; the latter is a scientific word for an expanded or projecting part of an organism."
My wife always liked my apophysis. One could say that Joe Biden is an apophysis. New nick name: Apophysis Joe. Joe the Apophysis.

Literally chilling conduct and something that should give pause to anyone hoping for a return to some semblance of journalistic propriety once Trump is out of office.
The media spent 8 years lying for Obama. This is normal. They have been lying pieces of shit for a very long time.
NOT A SMIDGEN OF CORRUPTION!!!!!11!11!!!
They are openly rewriting dictionary's to play gotcha with a shoe in for the supreme court. The fact they are literally doing that for such low inconsequential stakes is far more unsettling than them suffocating or elevating a story like they've always done as our brave gate keepers.
That's okay. Dictionary.com is owned by a private corporation. The profit motive constrains them from pushing wacko politics.
LOL.
If the progressives were subject to the same 24 7 full on propaganda attacks that Republicans and libritarian face on the regular they would all commit suicide.
The US press has not been honest since its birth, Most stories outside local reports of events are opinionated fabrications of the truth. In better time there is at least a kernel of truth that survives this bastardization. Today it's all some whiny bitches opinion.
In the old days of the Republic, publications were openly Federalist or Jeffersonian or whatever. The myth of "objective" or "nonpartisan" journalism is a progressive lie that took hold in the mid-twentieth century. For a while, people were happy to go along with it because there were few alternatives and the leftward slant was minor (except for things like providing cover for JFK and LBJ and, you know, covering up the Holocaust) but since the 1990s, when conservatives started pointing out the (then smaller) biases and creating alternative outlets, the insanity has been gradually amped up to 11.
Do you mean "covering up the Holodomor"? It's an honest question -- I'm wondering if there's something (else) that I'm ignorant about, or if you just mis-spoke.
"The New York Times Journalist Who Covered Up Genocide"
[...]
"In response to the campaign (stripping him of the Pulitzer), The New York Times issued a statement explaining his reporting.
“Duranty, one of the most famous correspondents of his day, won the prize for 13 articles written in 1931 analyzing the Soviet Union under Stalin. Times correspondents and others have since largely discredited his coverage,” said the statement.
“Duranty’s cabled dispatches had to pass Soviet censorship, and Stalin’s propaganda machine was powerful and omnipresent,” the statement said. “Duranty’s analyses relied on official sources as his primary source of information, accounting for the most significant flaw in his coverage — his consistent underestimation of Stalin’s brutality,” it continued.
https://visiontimes.com/2017/06/25/the-new-york-times-journalist-who-covered-up-genocide.html
Didn't stop the Times from printing his lies.
And the Holodomor! Let's not forget the NY Times most glorious Pulitzer.
Even hodor couldn't stop them
Yes. The New York Times literally won a Pulitzer in the 1930s for saying that Stalin was not starving Ukraine and that it was fascist propaganda. They never even admitted that they lied until the 1990s- after the fall of the Soviet Union when the atrocities of the Soviets could no longer be denied by white liberals.
Well I"m sure for the Times there were some old grudges against the peasants in the Ukraine from when their ancestors lived there...maybe they felt it was "justice"...
Go on...
And that I would approve of!
I don't think that Trump doesn't have anything to do with that. I think that the "corporate spirit" in the media is to blame. There is no loyalty to profession and its principles, reporters today are just hired guns who write what their bosses tell them to. Do you really think that Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo worry about objectivity and truth in reporting? I saw Chris Cuomo ask Mark McCloskey "how do you feel now that you are the face of anti-BLM movement?". I was stunned. He didn't ask about raging mob who broke down the door and threatened his wife and him, he attacked him because of being the face of anti-BLM movement.
What is it with Democrats and hard drives. It is like gremlins and feeding them after midnight or putting a Kennedy around water or something. The two just don't mix.
The guy says he gave the hard drive to the FBI. I would say that the FBI needs to either say that isn't true or do some serious explaining how it is they had this harddrive with such an explosive email on it and did nothing.
Beyond that, the email seems to speak for itself. Is it possible it is a fraud? Sure, but absent evidence that it is, there is no reason to believe that. What needs to happen in addition to talking to the FBI, is Joe and Hunter Biden and the Burismo guy need to be asked if it is genuine and if not why some guy at a computer store is claiming to have his emails. Let's get Joe out of the basement and on the record here explaining this.
Ultimately, everyone knows that this is almost certainly real. Burismo didn't give Hunter Biden that job for nothing. And Joe didn't pressure the Ukrainians into firing that prosecutor because he cares so much about good government. Anyone pretending otherwise is just lying.
"And Joe didn’t pressure the Ukrainians into firing that prosecutor because he cares so much about good government. Anyone pretending otherwise is just lying."
And how do you know this? Do you have some remote-controlled, stealth mind-reading technology, or some such? Are there ANY non-Republicans ANYWHERE, such that your magical "tech" tells us, that they REALLY actually care about good government? Or does your "tech" tell you that ONLY Republicans are capable of caring about good government?
Inquiring minds want to KNOW, dammit, John!
(PS, get a patent QUICKLY, now, and demo that product of yours!!! You're sitting on TRILLIONS of dollars going to waste!)
I know this because Joe Biden bragged about doing it.

Headline to your link: Opinion: Joe Biden Forced Ukraine to Fire Prosecutor for Aid Money
O-P-I-N-I-O-N, spells opinion, something that cannot be proven! Except with your stealth brain-scanner it seems! Get cracking on that patent!
My opinion is that you are behaving senselessly selfishly, in NOT sharing your stealth brain scanner! If it can be proven to work reliably, it would TOTALLY revolutionize democracy, mate selection, business partner selection, and SOOO much more!
What number am I thinking of right now? Hints: A positive integer between 1 and 100,000,000,000...
The video shows Biden saying what he did. He says in so many words "I told them to do it or they would lose their aid and son of a bitch they did it".
That is not opinion you fucking moron.
O-P-I-N-I-O-N, spells opinion, says that Biden did NOT do this for GOOD GOVERNMENT purposes, which was your original assertion!!!
Where are the goal posts now, John? What integer am I thinking of?
His son getting millions for doing nothing had nothing to do with it. Yeah, that is convincing.
Just shut the fuck up. Why do you think Burismo wanted to meet him. Why do you think they were so happy when they did?
Yeah, it was all on the up and up. Go die you piece of garbage.
I don't claim to know the motives for what Joe Biden did here, or at any time in his life, for that matter. I have NO magic stealth mind reader(s), and I think that people who PRETEND to have such, and do NOT get a patent on it... Or publish said IP for free... Are lying, arrogant, pretentious assholes!
For all I know... For all that any honest person, excluding God and Joe Biden, who probably DO know... For all I know, Biden's motives MIGHT have been to suck up to The Donald, so that The Donald would allow Biden to get some "sloppy seconds" with Stormy Daniels! Please prove otherwise!
Meanwhile, you're also a racist.
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
Fuck off Sqrlsy, you racist Hitler-lovin' piece of shit.

Potato peeler?
Don’t engage him - it only emboldens his misguided presumptions that we may actually read what he says.
If you must reply to him, only offer encouragement for suicide.
Umm...did you watch the video. Biden brags that that's exactly what he did.
And did Biden somehow prove to us, that his motives were NOT oriented towards "good government", per the assertions of arrogant knows-everything John the Blowhard Windbag here?
No, biden did not. Next dumb fucming question?
Here are TWO (count them, 2) "dumb fucming" questions for you:
'1) Do you know how to use built-in spell-check, or do you give SOOO few shits about the reader being able to read your shit, that, for all practical purposes, you give ZERO shits at ALL, in general, about your fellow humans? I have been told... Look at the "little things" that people do, or do NOT do, for their fellow humans, and it will give you YUUGE insights into their characters!
'2) Could you PLEASE explain your answer to John? I am glad that YOU "get it", that most of us mere mortals can NOT magically perceive the motives of our fellow human beings... Can you pull John aside, and gently EXPLAIN... AS YOU WOULD TO A CHILD, these matters. And... GOOD LUCK to you, if'n ye are brave enough to tackle it!
Biden is corrupt and used elected office to enrich himself and his family
It is amazing how you can actually get even more pathetic when one of your cherished democrats comes under fire. Youre worse than jeff and WK.
Fucking LOL at the shit-eater actually coming to Joe Biden's defense on anything.
Do you recall the awesome enchanter named “Tim”, in “Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail”? The one who could “summon fire without flint or tinder”? Well, you remind me of Tim… You are an enchanter who can summon persuasion without facts or logic!
So I discussed your awesome talents with some dear personal friends on the Reason staff… Accordingly…
Reason staff has asked me to convey the following message to you:
Hi Fantastically Talented Author:
Obviously, you are a silver-tongued orator, and you also know how to translate your spectacular talents to the written word! We at Reason have need for writers like you, who have near-magical persuasive powers, without having to write at great, tedious length, or resorting to boring facts and citations.
At Reason, we pay above-market-band salaries to permanent staff, or above-market-band per-word-based fees to freelancers, at your choice. To both permanent staff, and to free-lancers, we provide excellent health, dental, and vision benefits. We also provide FREE unlimited access to nubile young groupies, although we do firmly stipulate that persuasion, not coercion, MUST be applied when taking advantage of said nubile young groupies.
Please send your resume, and another sample of your writings, along with your salary or fee demands, to ReasonNeedsBrilliantlyPersuasiveWriters@Reason.com .
Thank You! -Reason Staff
You posted this copypasta already, shit-eater.
You posted your absolutely brainless lies and insults before, empty-headed moron!
Wow, what literary talent and rapier wit! Let’s see if I can match or exceed it, with some OTHER brilliantly smart comments that I have created just now!
Fuck off, spaz!
You eat shit, you said so yourself!
You’re a racist Hitler-lover!
Take your meds!
That’s so retarded!
You’re a Marxist!
Your feet stink and you don’t love Trump!
Your source is leftist, so it must be false!
Trump rules and leftists drool!
You are SOOO icky-poo!
But Goo-Goo-Gah-Gah!
Wow, I am now 11 times as smart and original as you are!
Please stop using my name in your stupid shit SQRLSY, thanks.
More copypasta from the shit-eater as he goes full Dumbfuck Hihnsano.
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
Fuck off Sqrlsy, you racist Hitler-lovin' piece of shit.
Where is sqrlsy’s mom? That bitch needs to be held accountable for her failed abortion,
Biden's mind or motivations are irrelevant, what matters is his conflict of interest.
Why don't you apply your intellect to offering constructive comments, or at least interesting ones? Mostly your posts suggests either you are off your meds. or that you need to be back on them.
How about an alternate theory as to why Joe got the prosecutor investigating his sons business partners fired??? We are not as brilliant as you are , so why don't you share your insights? I can not think of an acceptable reason, how about you?
Put up or shut up.
When is reason just going to admit most journalists are just the same as bolsheviks...and they will do anything to destroy the Republic. Come on Matt and Nick....drop the cosmo "what to be the cool libertian" and get invited to prog parties in the upper west side...time to call out the groups who need to be be called out..name the names darn it all..and start with the NYT, Wapo, Twitter, and Facebook....statists and communists..
Vote Biden, don't let Hunter end up on food stamps!
There is a story I heard from Ed Norris regarding Martin O'Malley's firing of Kevin Clark, former PBD commissioner. Evidently the reason Marty actually sent in the SWAT team to fire Kevin Clark was because he was in possession of a hard drive that contained materials that would embarrass the admin and resulted in criminal charges against a high ranking O'Malley aid. Years later Kevin won a wrongful dismissal lawsuit. Whole thing stinks to high heaven.
The FBI angle is the one that concerns me the most. The FBI has had this hard drive for months, and we do not know if they even investigated. And if they did, what was the outcome.
I mean, if you or I had a picture of us passed out with a crack pipe in our mouth, I can guarantee a search warrant would have been executed, looking for drugs.
There truly is a double standard of justice. And I still cannot come to grips with the fact that the FBI is corrupt AF.
I mean, hell, they held onto this during IMPEACHMENT which dealt with this specifically. Wray cannot be turfed hard enough.
Wray needs to be summarily dismissed. No face-saving resignation. FIRED.
Out of a cannon. Into outer space.
Nyce blog, i really appreciate this one....
While I'm a hardline Trump supporter, if he loses the election I believe the one fatal mistake he made was in not completely cleaning house at the FBI and DOJ as soon as he was inaugurated. Those departments, along with State, were our most corrupt by far, and they've done nothing but illegally undermine him and offer support to his enemies the entire time he's been in office.
He never should have let Comey keep his job. He never should have appointed Jeff Sessions. He never should have hired Comey's replacement (temporary or permanent) from inside the Bureau. He should have looked at firing every Obama holdover he could possibly remove from the bureaucracy. That place needed a full purge, and he very foolishly took his boot off the Democrats' throat once he won the 2016 election. You can never, ever, let up on enemies like that once you get them down...because they will obsess about making you regret it.
A lot of mistakes in those first 2 years.
11.4.2020 the gloves come off.
But the ballet shoes remain on? If Trump was gonna do something he would have done it by now. It’s gonna be more of the same tip toeing around like he’s living with a bipolar maniac. Some passive aggression here, some 4d chess there, and the swamp continues unimpeded.
You said crack pipe, a swat team is on it's way
But they produced "Biden's schedule" which says he didn't meet so case closed.
Biden is a criminal.
And a war criminal.
What exactly did he do that was illegal? Help his son get a job? Yeah let's throw the book at him! This story is a big nothingburger and I’m surprised that Repubs are stupid enough to take the bait.
"In the previously unreleased email, which was allegedly sent on April 17, 2015, an executive with Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company, thanks Hunter Biden for "giving an opportunity" to meet Joe Biden, according to The NY Post."
Yes, selling political access to a sitting VP (with the willing accommodation by the VP) for the son's personal gain; nothing wrong there.
Whatever. I'll be honest and say that it's not the best look for Biden but I guarantee Trump has done worse.
"Whatever..."
Yeah, who cares when a sitting VP sells his so his dead-beat, crack-smoking kid won't be a drain on the family finances?
Certainly not fuckwads like LAPT! Nope.
"...but I guarantee Trump has done worse."
I guarantee you're a lying pile of lefty shit.
......there is that grainy, dim, urinating-Russian-hooker video tape verified genuine by Rachel Maddow. I demand to know why they aren't releasing it.
"...I’ll be honest.."
I'll be honest and point out you're a lying piece of lefty shit; honesty isn't one of your abilities.
You lie. That's what you do; you lie. and you lie in the vain hopes that you can live at the expense of others.
You lie because you're some pathetic piece of shit aged something-going-on-15 in the hopes you never have to take responsibility for your actions; you hope mommy is always there for you!
Fuck off and die; make the world a better place.
Pay to play.
Quid pro Joe.
Those are crimes, Beavis.
also throat clearing giuliani and bannon as political operatives is hilarious when talking about the media writ large who have also published, propaganda, lies and falsehoods the last couple of years at roughly the same rate.
*sorry not the last couple of years "since they've existed."
A longtime Dem staffer is in charge of Facebook's response, and is bragging about censoring this.
Literally every argument against Sec230 reform has proven to be bullshit. Sec230 doesnt prevent censorship, it enables it in a rank partisan fashion.
Platform or Publisher, decide
I don't think anyone claims it prevents censorship, only that it provides one less incentive for censorship than if platforms were liable for content. I'm not sure how you fix this particular problem with 230 reform unless the reform is to require anyone who wants to operate as a platform to publish absolutely anything.
That said, this is totally outrageous. If it were possible for me to hate facebook any more than I already do , then I would.
Or how about making all rules firm, public, clear, and neutral?
If they don't want conservative politics, force them to say so.
Thats not what they do.
Also clarify contractual terms with allowed changes to ToS, don't for bait (consumer buildup) and switches. Most industries have to follow these guidelines and principles. 230 has been so bastardized as to allow for behaviors we don't allow in any other industry.
Twitter also suspended Amari, editor of the NY Post.
Hey damikesc! How's your plan coming along, to FORCE readers to buy Reason magazine? Authoritarian much?
Free speech (freedom from “Cancel Culture”) comes from Facebook, Twitter, Tik-Tok, and Google, right? THAT is why we need to pass laws to prohibit these DANGEROUS companies (which, ugh!, the BASTARDS, put profits above people!)!!! We must pass new laws to retract “Section 230” and FORCE the evil corporations to provide us all (EXCEPT for my political enemies, of course!) with a “UBIFS”, a Universal Basic Income of Free Speech!
So leftist “false flag” commenters will inundate Reason-dot-com with shitloads of PROTECTED racist comments, and then pissed-off readers and advertisers and buyers (of Reason magazine) will all BOYCOTT Reason! And right-wing idiots like Damikesc will then FORCE people to support Reason, so as to nullify the attempts at boycotts! THAT is your ultimate authoritarian “fix” here!!!
“Now, to “protect” Reason from this meddling here, are we going to REQUIRE readers and advertisers to support Reason, to protect Reason from boycotts?”
Yup. Basically. Sounds rough. (Quote damikesc)
(Etc.)
See https://reason.com/2020/06/24/the-new-censors/#comments
Again, who the fuck are you? You trolls all look alike to me. Is this Tony again?
I am the Ghost of Stupid Comments Past.
damikesc... Ghost of Stupid Comments Present, I presume?
I will be looking forward (well, maybe not quite THAT much) to meeting your Ghost of Stupid Comments Future!
Oh, Tony. How you doing, Tony?
I am the non-Tony of the Present, but I'm doing fine.
How ya doin', Ghost of Stupid Comments Present?
Fuck off Tony, you fucking racist.
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
Fuck off Sqrlsy, you racist Hitler-lovin' piece of shit.
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
This post is approaching Hinh status.
Even Hihn was never enough of a stupid authoritarian, such that he would advocate FORCING people to buy Reason Magazine, as a "fix" for his OTHER stupidity!
Please don't dishonor the memory of Hihn this way!
https://obits.cleveland.com/obituaries/cleveland/obituary.aspx?n=michael-j-hihn&pid=196606666&fhid=2644
LESS of a nut than MANY of the right-wing nuts I see here posting regularly!
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
Yeah, I could be convinced to get behind some changes like that. Make conditions and terms of service more explicit and harder to change, maybe.
*IF* you were going to punish them for this, I wouldn't use 230 rules. Just antitrust them. At least then you are limiting the damage to a single company, using powers the government already has. Getting the government into the business of mediating what a company means when it says "conservatives only" or whatever is not a power I want them to have.
"I’m not sure how you fix this particular problem with 230 reform unless the reform is to require anyone who wants to operate as a platform to publish absolutely anything."
That's the idea. Platforms should not engage in censorship (with the possible exception of direct threats). If Facebook or Twitter or Google want to engage in selective censorship, then they should be liable for the stuff that they do allow, because the fact that Twitter censors a story about Hunter Biden while allowing every anonymous claim that the Washington Post makes implies that those stories pass some sort of authenticity test.
The only people claiming 230 prevents censorship are those who think 230 is terrible for other reasons.
Those who think that 230 is bad, think so because they think that web-site owners should be FORCED to publish their crap and lies!
"Hey baker, bake me a gay-wedding cake, or I will run and cry to Government Almighty!"
"Hey web site owner, publish my crap-and-shit, or I will run and cry to Government Almighty!"
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
Fuck off Sqrlsy, you racist Hitler-lovin' piece of shit.
No, people who think the government shouldn’t be picking online winners and brick-and-mortar losers in the publishing business oppose Section 230.
Government Almighty has, at least once that I know of, punished a newspaper for THAT WHICH THE NEWSPAPER DID NOT WRITE! YOU wrote the editorial, the newspaper did NOT! This is just going after "deep pockets"! AND, it is fundamentally unfair, to punish one set of persons, for what some OTHER person did!
So Government Almighty did something stupid and unfair, and the way to correct it, is to have Government Almighty do some MORE stupid and unfair things, to MORE people? How does this work; HOW are things going to get better, using this "logic"?
Fuck off racist.
The fucking idiot thinks things magically appear in publications.
I think that evil know-nothings like YOU should be severely punished for what ***I*** have written! Maybe THAT would WAKE YOU THE FUCK UP to just HOW severely evil and stupid you are!
Well, your parents should be punished, severely, for what they spawned Tony.
Orangemanbad, Sqrls.
"faced thunderous denunciation on Twitter"
Everything in it must be true.
"Giuliani and Bannon are political operatives with a long history of shady activity, so the fact that they were the intermediary sources for this story does raise red flags"
LOL
I also laughed. But soave is a good egg and I assume he has to write that at this point to get it past the editorial staff.
He was a good egg when it came to covering the campus censorship stuff. When he defends big tech, he's kind of nauseating.
To be sure
If I did a shot every time Robby used "To be sure" to equivocate, I'd never be sober.
Seems to me he's defending the general rights of anyone in a similar position, whether they are big, medium or small tech, to set their own standards. Argue with that if you will, but I don't think he's expressing any fondness for these particular companies.
The problem is that big tech is uniquely dangerous. Its right to censor is essentially a right to destroy.
I'm also curious what you consider a small tech company to be. Referring exclusively to the social media space, mind you.
I don't really know. I think you are right that the big companies pose some particular dangers. But I don't know what the right answer is. If we don't have a cultural value of free speech, then no tinkering with regulations is going to fix this problem.
Part of the culture does respect free speech. Clearly Facebook and Twitter are not part of that culture. I’m fact, it appears most of the country on the left isn’t either.
In fact.
At least Robby is covering this story, unlike his cohorts at Reason who are openly in the bag for Biden. Still waiting for them to cover this story.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8799121/Russian-paid-3-5M-Hunter-Biden-did-open-doors-business-enter-market.html
And you know that whole coup attempt on Trump. But I guess that's too much to ask.
And the paramilitary organization that's been rioting for months, blmantifa, deploying hit squads in various cities.
BOTH SIDES?
"This is the work of journalism—to ask questions, to probe, to find and share the truth."
I didn't think you were new around here, Robby - - - - - -
Hey, the world needs naïve idealists.
Roberto's hair ghostwrote this one.
Do they want it suppressed because it might not be true or because it might be true?
That is always the question when observing the behavior of would be Watchmen.
Probably doesn't matter. It would hurt the Biden campaign either way, thus it must be suppressed.
But it is important on judging the validity of their motivation. When the thing they object to is that it might favor the political Right's interests then that is a strong
indicator that they are trying to suppress this for corrupt reasons.
Yeah, at the very least it's to help the Biden campaign. I doubt that invoking the Streisand effect is the proper way to run legal interference, but maybe they're just stupid. On the other hand, they may be able to avoid the Streisand effect entirely among non-political voters. If they don't see the story on Facebook, can't follow the link on Twitter, can't find the article on Google, and don't see videos about it on Youtube, and no major news outlet reports on it, then they may not even hear about the story or the suppression of the story.
Senate Republicans are getting the message and opening an investigation on this. That should force the issue to the news at least in some way.
"according to Biden's schedule, he never met with the Burisma official."
According to my schedule I am at the gym every day at 5am sharp.
Notice ot isn't a denial he met with him, just that he met with him officially.
How come Kavanaugh's schedule didn't prove anything, but all of a sudden Biden's schedule is as pure as the driven snow?
Because everyone knows the type of kid that keeps a calendar and hangs onto it for 30+ years is hiding something. And a politician would never engage in lying.
(D)
Because Republicans are sexist racist meanie heads?
"Credible" allegations...
"Tuesday, October 13, 2:30:
Meeting with Hunter's cronies to discuss illicit bribes and lucrative business deals for which he is supremely unqualifiedAppointment"Well, that settles that, doesn't it?
"While Facebook is within its rights to take action against content it believes is factually misleading, this seems like a tough standard to enforce evenly."
No. It doesn't. So long as FB accepts a penny of taxpayer money, it shouldn't be allowed to censor any speech it finds disagreeable.
Libertarianism won't endure (it already hasn't) if it continues making excuses for private corporations, particularly those that receive government subsidies. At its core, libertarianism should be about individual liberty, not freedom for corporations who shill for BLM and cheer on identity politics. When Dictionary.com is insisting that phrases like "sexual preference" are offensive just because Mazie Hirono said so, then that's proof that corporations are perfectly capable of pushing for totalitarianism without a government mandate.
TLDR: Crush big tech, take away its subsidies, and punish any and every corporation that promotes censorship while receiving government money.
Did FB limit distribution of the Atlantic story about trumps troop comments that was large debunked in record time? About the Iraq bounties? Nope. Didn't seem like it.
If this policy was to limit reach if any story solely utilizing unnamed sources it might be defensible. But this example is not.
Precisely, Jesse. And the people who defend big tech's right to conduct itself however it pleases are mostly silent.
All those anonymous bombshells about the walls closing in on Trump were totally well-sourced.
What subsidies does Facebook receive?
"Amazon is not the only tech giant to receive this kind of funding. Its compatriots Google and Facebook have also been raking in cash. While the three companies have received differing subsidy amounts, the subsidies translated into percentages of total valuation are actually comparable. Amazon is valued around $1 trillion and has received $1.5 billion in subsidies, meaning it received about one-seventh of one percent of its valuation in subsidies. Google is valued at over $800 billion and has received $750 million in subsidies — or about one-tenth of one percent of its valuation. Facebook is valued at more than $150 billion and has received two-tenths of one percent of its valuation, or $330 million, in subsidies. And the subsidy amounts mentioned here are only those starting in 2004 — Amazon and Google could have received subsidies for at least a decade before that."
It works better when you type your questions into this thing called "a search engine".

White knight was struggling with this too.
Rent free. Your head.
Lol. You wish sweetie.
Uh huh. Sure. I check this thread, that I didn’t participate in, and there you are talking about me.
Nah, it worked fine. You did it for me.
It is dreadful that these subsidies exist. But tell me, if you were running a large company, would you leave this money on the table?
Maybe there should be strings attached with the subsidies and tax breaks. If you take any of it, Donald Trump gets to decide what you can and can't publish.
"Nah, it worked fine. You did it for me"
So your goal was to look like a lazy asshole?
Well douché.
"Well douche"
Okay, props for that. lol
"It is dreadful that these subsidies exist. But tell me, if you were running a large company, would you leave this money on the table?"
I'm guessing you believe that taxation is theft. If that's the case, then how is accepting stolen money morally permissible?
The solution is to not leech off the American taxpayer while censoring their social media posts and expecting them to foot the bill for your employee's food stamps.
If a publisher taking government dough means it loses editorial control over its publication, does that mean "The Springfield Shopper" loses its by winning the contract to publish legal notices? That was the traditional method for pols to pay for partisan newspapers. When the other side won, it would put the ads in its papers.
Use Duck Duck Go- fuck Gulag
I am zero percent shocked. They've only been saying they were going to start doing this for two years now.
Is it me or is there more in this article about the hard drive possible being fake than what was on it? Biden denied an official meeting, why would a meeting set up by his son be official? Youre making an assertion that makes no sense. You also bring up the Times and how they questioned the stories veracity. You ignored that the times said they would refuse to print it because the drive was stolen... 2 weeks after they wrote about Trump's returns that were stolen and given to them.
There is nothing about the story that leads one to believe it is fake. Your entire basis is Giuliani and Bannon are shady. That is your current evidence. You barely mention the pictures and didn't mention the video. Those are deep fakes too?
Why did you choose this narrative when you could have stuck with just the facts and behaviors of FB and other publishers? Spending so many words sans evidence on the email being fake is an example of narrative building.
Thank you, Jesse, for putting in the effort to dissect Soave's article. After reading your comment, and Soave's article in its light, it does look like a story they were forced to cover. And, as Iowahawk famously called it, 'covering the story' means to do it with pillows, until it stops moving.
The most laughable part...Brain-Damaged Biden's staff called a Press Lid by 9am. You think maybe they are coaching Brain-Damaged Biden? 🙂
When's the next Debate? They're likely adjusting his sleep cycle to keep him fresh for an evening debate.
There was supposed to be one tomorrow, but Biden's team wanted to do it online because of Trump's Covid-19 diagnosis. Trump refused and it was cancelled, so Biden will be having a 'town hall' with NBC News selected totally unbiased undecided voters you guys tomorrow night instead.
Jesus. They have to worry about him sundowning during a handpicked audience, town hall meeting? That's just embarrassing. Frankly, it's abusive.
Thanks for the updated info, Paul.
I suspect he blood dopes.
Hypnosis of the severely disabled but entitled (alleged) criminal takes time.
Soave fails to mention, that Biden hasn't denied the emails are real. Joe's lawyer sent a letter trying to obtain the laptop, which would be unusual if it wasn't Hunter's laptop. The assumption should be they are real until Joe/Hunter deny they are.
And why wasn't this information made available to Trump in the Ukraine impeachment investigation if the FBI had it?
I will say that while this is gross and hilarious scandal driven corruption and proof positive all these people should be ran out of town on a rail, it still pales with what we knew and was widely reported about hilary clinton and her foundation.
Every writer at your publication called Facebook memes "election interference" and firmly embraced Russia Fever Dreams. By your own mentally deficient definition of "election interference" this would surely fit that category. It's revealing that you aren't calling this "election interference".
Should we wait for the NYT editorial board to call it that (which they won't) in order to read your writers regurgitate the same "muh...democracy" and other stupid shit that you guys have been pimping for the past four years or is anyone at this publication consistent on literally anything?
"or is anyone at this publication consistent on literally anything"
That's unfair. Some of your writers are consistent in voting for war criminals. A few of them voted Bush in 2004 and are now voting Biden. So, to be fair, a good number of your writers are consistent in their support for war criminals. Point taken.
I'm glad you brought that up. Reason carried water for HRC and are currently doing the same for Biden both of whom are radical interventionists covered in blood. Trump, despite all of his faults, is the least interventionist president since Jimmy Carter. And he's getting the troops out of Afghanistan win or lose, and has brokered impressive peace deals in the middle east. This shit is a big deal to this libertarian but the nation's most influential "libertarian" magazine won't even cover it.
I've got to agree with you Grimsrud. IMHO, Trump is the most libertarian president in at least the last 50 years, and Reason should be celebrating all his libertarian moves (obviously less military conflict, ME peace agreements, and how about eliminating those Big Pharma rules allowing them to sell drugs at lower costs than they charge in the USA as just one of many changes supporting free markets).
Obviously on spending, Trump has not acted like a libertarian, but I see that (and believe Trump does too) as a battle he can't win with Congress given all the Democrats are against him along with the RINOs that are a majority of the GOP. We remember GW Bush spending even more than Democrats when they controlled the House and Senate, contrary to their lying rhetoric (yielding the Tea Party). Instead, Trump is playing their game and forcing them to start actually say something about what we can afford when they've acted like we can afford everything. Admittedly this isn't good, but it's inevitable considering who we've collectively elected.
The problem is that Reason has no choice but to defend taxpayer-subsidized corporations who engage in censorship. This is a real problem with libertarians. They insist that corporatism isn't capitalism but then cheer on corporatism.
"Sure, they get bailed out with your money, but they should still be allowed to censor you. BIG GOVERNMENT!"
Correction: It's a real problem for Kochatarians and Libertarians. Small case libertarians don't seem to have a problem with this, because they didn't believe Facebook memes were "election interference" and they didn't spend the past four years fellating the FBI.
I still see plenty of small-L libertarians insisting that tech companies should be free to censor because it's their platform or whatever.
That's a separate conversation from my point, which is that Koch world has no principles and it's blindingly obvious.
Expecting libertarians to support government regulation is ludicrous. The Kochatarians and LP are good for that, you know "bake the cake" and all that.
Yes, reasonable libertarians can disagree about things. It happens a lot. Not everyone who disagrees with you is doing so for dishonest reasons.
Did I say they were being dishonest? I think many of them are just naive.
No, you didn't say that.
Mostly because SV censor those they don't like.
They should be allowed to sensor.
They shouldn’t receive any protection from the government if they choose to do so for some posts but not others.
It would probably be easier if they just stuck to letting people post whatever retarded shit they were going to and telling the mob that it wasn’t their job to police speech.
If they had just done that in the first place, things would probably be a lot better.
Why are we all forgetting why this censorship began?
This all started because Trump won election and butt hurt progressives, which would include the majority of the writers at this publication, came up with an insane conspiracy about how Facebook memes were "election interference". This didn't just happen in a vacuum.
Censor, censer, censure, sensor are all different words. Look them up.
"Corporatism" is not about corporations. It is a collectivist theory about the relationship of private institutions to the state. Basically, a nation is one body and it is the duty of private individuals to surrender their resources to direction of the collective when it is determined the body is in crisis. What constitutes a "crisis" being the determination of the government.
I agree.
Italian fascism owed a lot to corporatism. Add nationalism, imperialism and revanchism, et voila! Translate it into German and season with murderous racialism, and you get the Nazis.
Twitter is taking you to a page that says the link is 'dangerous', one of the options being it will but a virus on your computer, and isn't letting people post the link to the article.

End 230
Just post the link with spaces or something. Or use a link shortener. Unless they can block all that too. The Streisand Effect will take hold regardless.
I agree. Are they really so out of touch they think they are helping? If I were the Post, I would send Twitter and Facebook a thank you card for bringing so much attention to my article.
Already has.

Let me get this straight: genocidal dictators in Iran and China tweeting out propaganda is fine. Men sending women rape & death threats are fine. Doxxing private citizens is fine. But one story from the New York Post is beyond the pale?
Check out Facebook
https://twitter.com/quackocracy/status/1316438054622629891
They can't allow it to be posted until it is "fact checked".
These people are desperate. I don't think they would be if they didn't think it was true, which it clearly is.
The irony is, does it even matter if the story gets out or not?
Is any Biden voter not going to vote for Biden after hearing this story? Really?? His son taking a giant bribe, and Dad squashing a foreign inquiry into the affair, is what'll be a line too far?
It is frightening though, to think off all of the similar stories that Facebook et al, might've successfully killed through the same tactics they're using here.
I think a lot of people don't pay enough attention to realize that is what happened and just write the whole thing off as the usual partisan nonsense. The email makes it clear what happened such that they can no longer do that.
So, yeah, this is bad for Biden I think.
I mean, I hope it cripples Biden voter enthusiasm. I just marvel that if it does, it was this particular bad act, and not the Library of Congress-sized file cabinets of prior evil behavior, that finally did it for the electorate.
Doing this bad of a job of suppressing the story though, as you all have mentioned, makes Striesand-ing it far more likely.
You can bet your bippy that Mr. Bannon had a hand in the media strategy with this story. He is fighting fire with fire.
Biden backers probably will file it away as "not as bad as Trump." Biden will win my state, and both Duopoly tickets suck. I'll vote LP. Vermin Supreme would be better than these jokers. {jk? I'm not sure.}
It's because there was this giant impeachment effort against Trump for exactly this.

It’s not an official account.
It's a mostly peaceful account.
Is the account intensifying?
It stops being an official account when the sun goes down.

Facebook censors The Post to help Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign

Social media isn't news media.
"The U.S. presidential election interference is happening on a massive scale – this day – by our Russia-collusion-disinformation-promoting media and by leftist tech companies. They must be stopped before they destroy the country. Do what you can and do it quickly."
Mollie Hemingway is 100% right on this. The right of individuals to share information supercedes the right of taxpayer-funded big tech companies to censor the masses.
This is the last lap. What in the world makes you believe democrats and their bootlickers in the media are going to do any self examination now?
After the election they may use this to get Biden to resign so commie Harris can take over. That would not surprise me. Just like they will claim COVID ain’t so bad and get back to work so as to not embarrass the new regime.
After the election they may use this to get Biden to resign so commie Harris can take over.
That would be hilarious.
Hmm. Oh...
It does seem curious that less than a month before the election, the WHO is jumping in and denouncing lockdowns.
Just in time for Democrats to loosen up and claim victory over the big bad sniffles.

The Post's primary Twitter account (
@nypost
) has also been locked because the Hunter Biden stories violate its rules against "distribution of hacked material," per email we received from Twitter
I think 'locked' means no new tweets - they cannot post more - I can see the account.
Jesus fucking christ the tech companies are mendacious fucks...
If that's actually in their terms of service then twitter is fucking dead to me... and should be dead to every honest journalist in the land.
If a major communications company refused to distribute any 'hacked' information, then practically all whistleblowing would be instantly shut down.
If section 230 meant what I'm repeatedly told it meant, then Twitter could allow all of this material to be redistributed without any fear of liability.
Did they stop spread of the Trump taxes story? I mean, if their rules were consistent...
Does the term hacked have no meaning anymore?
To clarify.. the repair shop on question had the standard 90 day abandonment policy. It retained the laptop for a year. It wasn't hacked or stolen. Unlike Trumps tax returns.
Yes, it means any story that came by way of an electronic device that makes the Democratic frontrunner look bad.
https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1316460986606514176
Media outlets that reported on the DNC/Podesta emails in 2016 would have been prohibited from sharing the links on Twitter under this new "hacked materials policy." That's what all this is about: doing everything in their power to prevent a repeat of 2016. It's 100% political
Only 100%?
Facebook Communications Director Andy Stone, a former Democratic staffer, announced that the social media platform would limit the article's distribution pending a fact-checker's review.
There's so much awful packed into this sentence one hardly knows where to begin.
Are tech companies like... venus flytraps which attract Democratic operatives? Did Facebook limit Rachel Maddow's account and anything that reported on the Steele Dossier? It's hilarious that in the nebula of news stories, they pick this one to scrutinize.
It's equivalent to ABC hiring Stephanopoulos, NBC hiring Tim Russert or Fox hiring Tony Snow. It's always sucked, except when the ex-hack is confined to opinion, and kept out of reporting or editing the news.
https://twitter.com/MZHemingway/status/1316461021977096195
YES, because everything they do shows that many people at these outlets aren't journalists but propagandists who serve a particular political party. And that is the only reason they could be upset. Journalistically, there's no defense for being upset in any way.

I've heard from over a dozen NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC sources (talent and staff) and the frustration with and anger toward their employer for scheduling a town hall against Biden is palpable.
I'm going to watch baseball, anyway. I'll catch up on the dueling clown shows.

The New York Times never even pretended to explain how it hacked Trump's tax records and yet Twitter *promoted* links to their stories. Media outlets didn't decline to cover that story. These are lies. Do not believe their lies. They are lying to you.

If Twitter has a "hacked materials policy" why wouldn't this policy be applied to stories about Trump's tax returns which were illegally obtained?

How long did it take a random dude at reason.com in the comments section to think of this counter example? 15 minutes?
The media is pathetic in their propaganda. I am disappointed that reason has been so circumspect in their critique. At least greenwald has been on point.
It's not the blatant corruption and dishonesty that's so repeatedly stunning, it's the sheer incompetence and stupidity.
Reason could've ignored this evidence of Biden's corruption, but Big Tech has to make a huge scene of "NOTHING TO SEE HERE" and now everyone is aware of it.

’s tweet about the Hunter Biden bombshell. This is election interference. We’ve entered the age where we have a "ministry of truth" run by Democrats and only they decide what’s true. They demand that you no longer believe your lying eyes & ears.

This is a Big Tech information coup. This is digital civil war.
I, an editor at The New York Post, one of the nation’s largest papers by circulation, can’t post one of our own stories that details corruption by a major-party presidential candidate, Biden.
If republicans retake the House, there needs to be a new HUAC (House UnAmerican Activities Committee). Just like there was during the Red Scare.
These companies should be destroyed for what they’re doing.

The most Pravda-like thing is that the immediate pushback by Biden's many allies in Big Media and Big Tech serve as confirmation of the story and how damaging it is to the Biden campaign. If it weren't true, they'd just say that, rather than censor its distribution.
Obama conference call leaked to Burisma: Biden emails
https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/obama-conference-call-leaked-to-burisma-biden-emails/
The Obama administration let a Democratic p.r. company that worked for Ukrainian energy firm Burisma take part in a conference call about an upcoming visit to Ukraine by then-Vice President Joe Biden, emails obtained by The Post show.
An associate at Blue Star Strategies then emailed a memo with minutes of the conference call hosted by the White House to a top Burisma executive, Vadym Pozharskyi, as well as to Joe Biden’s son Hunter and Hunter’s business partner, Devon Archer, both of whom sat on Burisma’s board.
The trip, in December 2015, turned out to be the one during which Biden later bragged about forcing Ukrainian officials to fire a state prosecutor who was investigating Burisma by threatening to withhold a $1 billion US loan guarantee.
Good work on acknowledging this exists, Rico.
But wait...
It's a story that merits the attention of other journalists, political operatives, national security experts, and also the public at large—not least of all because there are serious questions about its accuracy, reliability, and sourcing.
::sigh::
You really can't stop yourself, can you?
I'm not sure that's fair, his skepticism is what got him moving on the Virginia/Rolling Stone story, and in my mind that buys him a little room to talk.
Same with the Nicholas Sandmann video. I think he was the first one to actually watch the whole thing, and his reporting on that is what ultimately led to Sandmann teabagging CNN on their own network.
Robby deserves a fucking Medal of Freedom for that alone.
He gets some right, and a lot wrong, which is better than everyone else working for this rag.
Well, if you were to document a chain of custody for the evidence, there are red flags galore. It was in the hands of a computer repair guy for years, then a copy of that was in the hands of Guiliani for months, and then it was provided to the paper. The FBI has had their hands on it for almost a year and haven't announced anything, despite this being a more or less smoking gun. Even if the hard drive was legitimate, it wouldn't be hard for someone to add a few extra documents.
Questioning it is one thing. However, censoring it is another.
Soave....Could you please link to the picture of Hunter Biden passed out with a crack pipe in his mouth? It is so appropriate, because this is what you'll get with Brain-Damaged Biden.
You see, Brain-Damaged Biden's son, Drug-Addict Biden, has been selling influence. The pictures and emails do not lie.
Joe Biden is corrupt AF.
"And yet many in the media are choosing not just to ignore the story, but to actively encourage others to suppress any discussion of it."
Well, there is an election on, the the media has sworn to do any and every thing in their power to make sure it turns out the right way.

You're seeing the immense, unchallengeable, unaccountable power of Silicon Valley giants over the flow of information. Imagine if Google joins in.
What's so amazing is that they never wanted this role. It was foisted on them by people, led by journalists, demanding they censor:
Glenn Greenwald is better than the entirety of Koch world and he has been for a while. The antiwar Left are your friends. They think like us and they distrust the same people.
Don't lump Greenwald in with the 'antiwar Left,' he is very capable of rational thought and believes in civil liberties for other people. They do not have many left that fit that mold.
RIP Hitch.
Defeating Trump is more important than truth.
The Left's answer to stories of dubious accuracy, reliability, and sourcing: "We can't tell you the source, for their own protection, they're whistleblowers."
The Right's answer to stories of dubious accuracy, reliability, and sourcing:
"The FBI has the evidence."
Both sides.
I will remind everyone that the story that Trump was working with Russia was a hoax. It was repeated ad nauseum by every news agency for years. The NYT publicly admitted that they were covering the story for the explicit reason of bringing trump down. They even publicly discussed their search for another li e of attack, which resulted in the 1619 project.
Note that not one iota of this was blocked, fact checked or restricted in any way by facebook. It still is not fact checked by facebook, even through we now know that everything that Trump was saying is true, and everything out of the Obama administration and Mueller investigation was a part of a political attack.
In short, this article is years late and far too weakly worded.
Bonus: it casts far too much shade on the Post story. We know for a fact that Biden met with Burisma executives at some point, because we have a photo of Biden and son playing golf with Burisma executives. Biden issued blanket denials.. he did not know that his son had a job with a Ukrainian company.
The sources in this story are somewhat suspect, but they are far less suspect than the sources that Facebook has been using for their fact checking.
Every member of Obama's DOJ, FBI, and CIA, when testifying under oath, said that they had not seen any actual evidence of any connections between the Trump campaign and Russia. Every single one of them.
People aren't realizing the gravity of that. This wasn't a case of suspicions that didn't pan out. They had nothing. They never had anything. The entire thing was fabricated from the word "go." The two-year Mueller investigation knew from the start that there was nothing because it was run by the very people who created the false story to begin with. It was a cover-up, drawn out for as long as they could so with the hope of inducing the president into interviewing with them.
We do realize the gravity of it. It was an attempted coup by deep state actors that was given material support from the media.
Try posting that on Facebook. See if you get fact checked. (Have significant followers first, of course)
And don’t forget that Reason fell for it hook, line, and sinker, and to this day still has never acknowledged either that it was a hoax or that they got played for a bunch of dumb rubes.
"Fell for it"...
They repeated the propaganda they were instructed to repeat.
They are every bit as guilty as the the rest.
Yeah, unless I see some serious mea culpa, explanations for the silence for the last 6 months, and a 180 on the coverage going forward, I have no reason to give Reason the benefit of the doubt.

And you picked the wrong examples for Facebook's double standard. We need look no further than just a couple of weeks ago. Every single news organization ran with the Atlantic story about Trump insulting the military.
Facebook did not limit that story. Fact checkers did not call it out as disinformation. Several organizations went on to fact check it independent of those fact checkers, checking with original sources. Every single original source denied it.
yet the media still repeats it as if it is true. And Facebook does not fact check that or throttle it or anything.
You write it as if it is some sort of hypothetical. As if crazy Republicans might think that there is a double standard if you allow this sort of thing. Pretending that it is at all controversial that this is a political tool designed from inception to limit conservative voices and amplify progressive voices is ludicrous.
A better example would be the Trump tax return publication by the New York Times.
This is data, probably obtained illegally, that has been widely suspected but not proven before now.
The difference is that one proves Trump exploited the tax code in legal but somewhat unreasonable ways, just like every one of us. The other confirms corruption allegations.
Now, compare the response. Publication far and wide about Trump's taxes. However, this is completely blocked
I disagree; the pictures validate the archive. Faking an email is harder than faking a pic. Doable, but harder.
https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1316462856821510148
Releasing the private pictures of Hunter Biden is disgusting. That serves no legitimate purpose. But the Burisma emails are of obvious public interest. Has anyone even alleged that those emails are anything other than authentic?
When the emails are authentic, the argument pivots to: They are the fruit of the poison tree, ill-gotten gains. Hands off, eyes off.
And then they'll pull the same shit they pulled with the Wikileaks emails: "We can't show you this stuff, because it was obtained illegally. We will look at it for you, and then tell you what to think about it."
I disagree with Greenwald. What is Russians and/or Chinese used the existence of those pictures to compromise a POTUS Biden?
So yeah, unfortunately there IS a legitimate public interest.
There are no rules that Biden's team won't break, and no position that Biden has not waffled on while enriching himself and the disadvantaged suffered. Release all of it, take the prurient BuzzFeed approach. Hunter smoking crack and banging a hooker on video, the people deserve to see it. Every last email, printed for all to see. This will remove the possible compromise by foreign power, and stop our social media/media from from this dishonest tack.
Faking an accurate e-mail in an archive is difficult.
Faking a document purporting to be a printout of an e-mail is trivial.
Releasing a few pictures of Hunter Biden, some of which clearly show him partaking in illegal activities, is done to verify that it's actually his computer instead of just a rapidly done fake
"This idea is popular with everybody from Trump and Biden to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R–Mo.), even though the obvious result of removing tech platform's liability protection would be even more aggressive moderation. "
This is incorrect. Moderation (exercising discretion about what is posted on the platform) is what changes a site from a distributor to a publisher. Their alternatives would be to assume liability and much more aggressively moderate or to stop moderating and function as a distributor, thus avoiding liability. The law probably doesn't need to be changed per se, we just need to treat publishers pretending to be distributors for purposes of avoiding liability as publishers.
Time until it becomes a bannable offense to bring up that twitter and facebook have censored the story? Streinsland effect only works if people have a mean to find out that you are suppressing something. Which if the search engines colludes with the two major social media networks, most average folks don't.
China has proved this out very well over the last couple of decades.
I had close friends in my lab at the University who had family in China during tiananmen square. They were faxing news stories from the United States and Europe back over to their family in China. You know, because China censors the news and they couldn't find out what was happening.
I told them that we live in an era where information will get out. That censorship was about to become a thing of the past.
Well, history has proven me wrong.
They cannot go back to China. they are subversive now. Because they sent news articles back to their family.
And China is much better at censoring now. Things cease to exist very quickly. And they have the means to punish people who try to go around the information blocks.
It appears that our progressive Friends took this lesson to heart.
Hell, they gained the experience by working with the Chinese government to implement their censorship regulations.

Did you bring that strawman all the way from home, or find it just outside?
The NYP is famous for sucking R penis for only moderately vigorous reach-arounds. Fact checkers are saying sources for the article are pretty dubious, we'll find out more in a day or two after they come back. NYP is famous for saying anything to "get the scoop" and then when it doesn't pan out to post a small retraction at the bottom of a very long landing page if they're found out to be lying.
Suck that dem cock boy. Really throat it.
We should play a game of list the bogus stories that were heavily promoted by these same organizations.
1. Trump disses military
2. Kavanaugh rape parties
3. Trump phones were not tapped
4. Nick Sandmann blocked, mocked and taunted peaceful native elder who was simply passing by.
I bet you guys can come up with quite a list.
Most transparent administration in history, Operation Choke Point, not even a whiff of scandal, failing to cover WJ Clinton's rapes as they now cover for Biden.
And what is it with lefties and homophobic slurs? This WOF clown, Kirkland and his oral rape fixation. I know they're closet, pun intended, totalitarians, but almost every comment demonstrates that they're also hypocrites.
"And what is it with lefties and homophobic slurs?"
Turd included.
It's not enough that you're assumed by the lefty shit to be stupid or deluded (as WOF is in both counts), you have to be involved in some activity which I guess is homoerotic to the poster.
Self hate? Hypocrisy? Just plain stupidity?
Trump-Russia collusion.
Russian bounties on US troops.
Biden-Ukraine corruption scandal was "debunked".
Why is it sucking R penis when it’s published by the NYP but accepted fact if it’s the NYT? What happened happened and the public has a right to know. I know you are terrified that this might tilt the election to Trump, but maybe the Bidens should have thought about that at the time. Actions have consequences.
Lol. Sqrsly is so rejected he is breaking out old rejected socks.

So Twitter banned the New York Post because they provided hacked materials.
The New York times got rave reviews for obtaining hacked copies of Trump's tax records. Those stories were not buried under disinformation mornings and banned from Twitter. They were promoted as lead stories everywhere. Twitter, Facebook, the loading page on Bing. It was everywhere. Snopes didn't even bother to fact check it as misleading or anything.
Glenn greenwald had a great point. This is a minor story. We already have the major story. Hunter Biden was paid many millions of dollars to be on the board of barisma. no sane human being can possibly believe that this was anything other than buying political favor. The guy was in no way qualified for the job.
We also know that Joe Biden publicly bragged that he got the prosecutor who was investigating barisma fired.
You have the quid. And you have the quo. you don't really need a whole bunch of emails talking about when they are going to get together to discuss the quid and the quo. If you did not believe that there was corruption indicated by those two facts, an email or three or seven about setting up meetings is not going to change that.
In that way, this is like the OJ Simpson trial. People were believing what they were going to believe during that trial. do you really think that one more drop of blood being tested would have actually changed anything?
The same motivated reasoning is in action here.
If someone were to uncover that Mike Pence had a son, daughter, or third cousin twice removed who had never shown any signs of great achievement and was suddenly on the board of directors of Apple computer and was getting millions of dollars from credit Suisse, I think that would be a major story. Particularly if we also had video of Mike Pence bragging that he got the Chinese government to back off on Apple's manufacturing in China.
Pretending that anything other than motivated reasoning is at work here is just silly.
I'm sure the Washington Post (tagline: "Democracy Dies in Darkness") will be all over this story...
They certainly are:
"Joe Biden did NOT push out a Ukrainian prosecutor for investigating his son, The Washington Post confirms."
This is a faulty premise for the reason that removal of the protections against legal liability is contingent only on moderating content. Not moderating third-party content, except in cases where it involves obvious criminal activity, would allow social media to keep their legal protections as a public forum. The argument for removing it is that, due to their censoring of content, they are no longer a public forum but are instead a publisher. So they would be treated just like any other publisher, where they could be sued for what they publish. It's a fine distinction, but a critical one.
Incidentally, Robby, thank you for publishing this. I've frequently criticized your work, often harshly, in the past, but you published a thoughtful and even-handed piece here and I think that deserves praise. I couldn't help but notice that all of the rest of your colleagues ignored the story, as is their norm. Very nice work.
I will back this up. Robby is often the only person on this site willing to bring up uncomfortable stories, and he's also the most likely to be rightfully skeptical of bull that gets pedaled often. I appreciate his work.
Do you think when REASON hired him, he was told "We're giving you the uncomfortable story beat. It's the best way to learn the ropes!"? [/Jackie Cooper as Perry White]
"Not moderating third-party content, except in cases where it involves obvious criminal activity, would allow social media to keep their legal protections as a public forum."
People think this is a good thing. Imagine you create a forum for hunters to discuss the craft, and you are constantly brigaded by PETA activists coming in and shitting up the place? You can't moderate away that content, you are just stuck with it.
This happens on Reddit all the time- you create a subreddit that is moderately conservative or libertarian, and the liberals come in droves.
The difference there is that on subreddits and Facebook pages started and administered by third parties, those same third parties are doing the moderating, not Facebook. The problem comes when Facebook steps in an makes the decisions on content for everyone. And in this case, that's where they're not only censoring speech but in this case also providing an in-kind contribution worth millions of dollars to the Biden campaign...illegally, since publicly-traded corporations are prohibited by federal law from doing that.
FYI, Twitter now has a banner above threads on Hunter Biden claiming Biden did not push commit the corruption he admitted to on national TV. They had to put that content on there. More evidence they are a publisher.
The emails smell fishy and could be forged.
But assuming the emails are genuine, this is a huge story and major evidence supporting Trump's side of the story in the pathetic saga of Bidens, Burisma, and impeachment.
What sticks out is that the Biden campaign issued a statement in response, but did not dispute the story. Instead, they only stated that no such meeting was on the "official schedule" around that time.
I almost can't believe this is real because it's almost too "good" (from the Trump-side perspective) to be true. It really looks bad for Biden and suggests he has brazenly lied about this. Even if one is inclined to believe that corruption existed here, even "soft" corruption of the kind that is widespread and generally legal, the idea that such blatant written evidence of it would be discovered is . . .crazy.
That the social media companies and most of the media are in the tank for Dems is old news of course.
"...they only stated that no such meeting was on the “official schedule” around that time."
Hey, I looked around my desk and couldn't find anything about it; isn't that enough?
'The emails smell fishy and could be forged.'
Based on examination, or your opinion without forensic evidence? The latter is worthless.
He says "smells fishy". I think that is right.
They smell about as fishy as the documents that Tom Brokaw found proving that Bush was...god I don't even remember any more. Anyway, they were exactly what Brokaw wanted and he essentially lost all credibility doubling down on it.
The provenance is fishy. The receipt (saying they will recover three macbooks for a very cheap $85) is fishy. It is too perfect. I hope it is true, but it is too perfect.
And new photos and videos of hunter never before seen were just magically inserted into the drive?
I am actually leaning to believe the first one is real. That's a realistic e-mail that would actually be written. A thank you note and an invitation to a meeting in one.
A forger would typically be far more explicit, commanding Biden to do certain things, and it wouldn't involve so much extraneous detail.
To compare, if you recall when the Heartland Institute had their financial documents stolen, Peter Gleick wrote a fake strategy document about telling teachers not to teach science. It read like it was written by a Batman villain. It was a clear bombshell that said exactly what they wanted the "deniers" to say.
So, in short, if it's a forgery, it's a good one.
I thought the same thing initially, but the shop owner also has evidence that the FBI seized the laptop with a subpoena and that he contacted several politicians (including Utah Senator Mike Lee, who has some explaining to do) about what he found. This was unfolding for months as several major institutions ignored it.
Oh damn, I love this. One of the R senators decided to use the supreme court hearings as an opportunity to bring up Hunter in a context that's harder for the social media's to censor.

This censorship effort has gotten far too manic and blatant to just be political gamesmanship. It's the actions of people who have something to hide and are aggressively attempting to shut down anything that might keep them and their political allies out of power.
You want to know how you ultimately get a Franco-type of ruler? This is how it happens--when the radical left goes full-bore on an "any means necessary" kick, resulting in their opponents determining that full suppression is the only way to stop it.
Yeah, twitter is pretty much justifying any type of retaliation against them with these actions. They're going to have barely anyone left to defend them after going to such extremes.
Well assuming they lose the election. If they win, they'll get a pat on the head and told to make sure that nothing bad comes out against the ruling part ever again.

Wife had it on her 'puter; didn't see it, but the two of them simply talked over each other LOUDLY after Blitzer tried to get that hag on-subject.
Lefty cat-fight.
If Biden was actually up by 10 points they wouldn't need to do this. It's not an accident their board members are joining the campaign committee.
They better pray Biden actually wins, because if he doesn't Trump is going to be highly motivated to burn them to ash. Their board members will have to become refugees to their Chinese sponsors, and the employees will get ass-raped by the NSA. Their assets will be frozen for sponsoring domestic terrorism through their links to Antifa. It will get really, really ugly.
And which do you actually prefer? Franco, Stalin, or Hitler?
Wow. I’ve never actually watched any of Trump’s rallies, might have to tune in tonight.
My crazy prediction (don’t think it will happen) is he deletes his Twitter account on stage.
Trump should announce that he is going to Parler. He can say that he will still tweet, but that he will always post first to Parler, and only to twitter a half hour later.
The media will fall over themselves to go over there so they can get the scoop on whatever outrage he tweets. THen one day he just stops tweeting.
It's time to arrest the executives of Twitter and Facebook for sedition. They have clearly overstepped into actively trying to overthrow the government.
I continue to say that a private company should be allowed to be as biased and full of shit as they want to be. Government's role, if any, should be to mediate slander, libel and fraud. Government's additional role should be in freeing regulatory barriers to entry that prevent other companies from supplanting those biased, bullshit organizations if that is what the country wants.
That said, if you take a shot at the King, you better not miss. Twitter and Facebook have shown their hands, and if they think the left will save them if Trump wins, they are in for a surprise. Social media has always been a tool for the left. They LOVED those tools when it was used to their advantage, and hated it when the right got the drift.
Twitter and Facebook have all but guaranteed that in 20 years, the left will have control over everything that is shared on their platforms via government fairness boards and neutrality bureaus. Even if Trump loses, the Right will happily compromise with the left to reign them in. As long as the GOP can extract its pound of flesh, they won't notice that the left is getting the keys to information flow in the country, just as they got the keys to domestic spying via the Patriot Act.
"they won’t notice that the left is getting the keys to information flow in the country, just as they got the keys to domestic spying via the Patriot Act."
How are you pretending this hasn't already happened???
The problem with Biden-got-prosecutor-fired-to-protect-corrupt-guys line is that E.U., U.S. and I.M.F. wanted that prosecutor fired for _not_ prosecuting corrupt guys, before Biden got on the case: https://www.ft.com/content/e1454ace-e61b-11e9-9743-db5a370481bc
The problem with that as a defense is that he could have been on the take and barisma wanted him gone because they thought that it would save them some money.
The other problem with that defense is that as soon as his replacement took office, he killed all of the investigations that were underway. The official story from the barisma and Biden camp is that those investigations were not going anywhere and were not active. But the actual prosecutor himself insists quite the opposite is true.
We will never know whether he acted the way he did because it was in America's interest or because it shoveled millions of dollars into the pockets of his son.
That's why it doesn't matter what rationalizations you can cook up or how you analyze Biden's motivations, the fact is that the massive conflict itself was unacceptable. Once Hunter was involved with Ukraine, Biden should have recused himself from any dealings with Ukraine or resigned.
But if he'd recused himself, Burisma would have quit paying his cokehead deadbeat dad scumbag son, and Biden would have to find a new mule for his bribes. Come on, man!

There's a problem with your excuse; it's irrelevant.
I wonder if would be possible to censor the NYT or AOC on Facebook the next time they come up with bullshit that equivocates semi-automatic firearms with machine guns.
No
We may not have to touch section 230. We can properly designate most social media sites as publishers and make them face lawsuits for viewpoint discrimination and libel. Any new social media sites that behaves like a platform will be unaffected.
My right to free speech is not violated when a publisher won't accept my manuscript. Why does that change with Twitter, Youtube or Facebook? If Facebook decided to be left wing site and blocked everything from outside the prog bubble, let them.
But obvoiusly FB will never do that, because that all but KILLS their business model. It runs on views (not quality or content), which matters for ad revenue. They need billions of people to post cat pics and share worthless memes so they can increase ad exposure or sell user viewing / shopping habits to advertisers.
The current social media sites are NOT platforms. You cannot call any of them as neutral platforms. In my mind it's just better for these people to operate openly as a left wing site and allow the center right to migrate to actual platforms, allowing them to thrive in the market.
Isn't it revealing how quick journalists were to recognize the potential weaknesses in the reporting chain? Instantly is a good description, and they refused to contextualize those weaknesses to understand the likelihood it's nevertheless true. Then compare this to their reaction to the Steele Dossier which they accepted whole and still defend even though its reporting weaknesses are orders of magnitude greater.
And this discrepancy is virtually uniform across left journalism [except for Greenwald] showing virtually all of them function as left wing political operatives rather than journalists.
Exactly. Soave is a pathetic.
As my screen name says im not from your country but the outcomes of your elections will affect my country deeply and the fact that under half of your country elected an overgrown child still teriffy me, but I know he made lots of empty promises and vowed to make your country better, but as a person from a shithole called Canada and people down here live in in caves like the flintstone, I would like to be the 1st person to have a face off with your orange leader and see if a Canadian can be smarter than a Donald Trump... I will take on the challenge anytime anywhere and I can even paint my face orange to make sure he doesnt feel like a minority
Sincerly yours
JC
Pardon my english since im french
Gosh, maybe Canadians could grow some balls and stop riding America's coattails.
Seriously? Have you ever taken a good, hard look at the idiots that run your country?
As an immigrant who made a choice between the US and Canada, I can confirm that.
I thought you were Canadian. Which is it?
"...the fact that under half of your country elected an overgrown child still teriffy me,.."
TDS is not limited by national borders; lefty shits all over the world have it.
I'm reminded of that every time I read The Guardian.
You sure act like you're French. In any event nobody gives a fuck what you think.
Funny. Not sure if that was for real.
I like the flintstones reference. Betty was way cuter than Wilma don’t you think
This writing has exactly the same tone as "Liberals Are People Too" biography.
Fucking Buttplug is such a shitty troll.
Hey Buttplug, vas-tu me lécher les testicules pour moi?
"Thank you for the meeting with your father" seems pretty definitive.
Under "10 a.m.: illegal meeting with official to discuss how I can peddle influence for money", perhaps?
"Surpriiiiize!"

What we know already is scandalous enough. Good old Hunter got well-paying jobs for which his only known qualification is that his dad (on behalf of the Obama administration) had political relations with the people who had a say in those jobs.
Is anyone even *trying* to say it was simply a coincidence?
It would be nice to have a confession from the parties - and if this latest story is true we kind of do - but this is the kind of obvious corruption which doesn't require the parties to confess, it's clear enough.

If you are surprised by Biden’s ties to corruption in Ukraine, its because you’ve been duped once again by propaganda in our media.
In the recorded telephone conversation between Assistant Secretary Victoria Nuland and Ukraine Ambassador Geoff Pratt, they are CLEARLY heard discussing the planning of the coup that ousted the democratically elected president, and the western puppets that they will install.
Nuland can be clearly heard saying “this ought to earn us an “atta boy” from (Vice President) Biden”.

Funny thing is it's not like this story is some kind of self-explanatory bombshell. I would bet that a good number of readers would need some background information even to understand the potential relevance of the story, much less hold it against Biden. Even then, the story (as it currently stands) is that Biden's son attempted to benefit from his Dad's position, and that Dad may have been less than honest is generally denying such allegations previously. But, until additional information is gathered, perhaps the former VP draped himself in his ethical PPE the entire time. In a lot of ways it's an inside politics issue, but Twitter seems especially sensitive to any news that might harm the Democratic candidate's chances. Not so much FB perhaps, but perhaps the Democrats' constant haranguing of FB is finally paying dividends for the party. Whatever Biden did or didn't do, the story certainly seems to confirm media bias.
Good article but it would have been better if Robby could have refrained from this ad hominem slur: "Giuliani and Bannon are political operatives with a long history of shady activity". The link under shady activity takes us to the NY Times piece on Steve Bannon's recent arrest. As Libertarians we should stand against politically motivated / "Three Felonies a Day" type prosecutions which the Manhattan DA has engaged in consistently going back to his pursuit of Dinesh D'Souza. Furthermore, citing a charge made this summer, where presumably? we as Libertarians still believe in innocent until proven guilty hardly demonstrates a long history. As for Giuliani, I may not have liked all his policies or tactics as mayor or DA but by and large the man has followed the rule of law. If you have something specific, that actually demonstrates the long history of "shady" activity Robby then please inform us so as to rescue your what you wrote above the kind of cheap shot we expect from President Trump or CNN.
To be sure.
So this election's October surprise comes as zero surprise to anyone. Especially our media overlords who immediately took steps to suppress it, and our FBI, who went out of their way to ignore it.
Kinda says it all doesn't it?
Yet Robby the Twit sure found other ways to spin it.
Little robby is incapable of writing an article without signaling to the mob. Did you write about "serious concerns" about the sources of Russia gate or any other half baked bulletin from NYT WP etc? Robby is a shill.
Twitter has outdone themselves, first by blocking not only any link to the Post but also the Post’s own account, and then by posting an open brag that they blocked the Post’s site, thus ensuring that everyone will see and comment on the Post’s story. It’s a new and bigger version of the Streisand Effect.
Then to top it off, they have suspended the account of White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany until she deletes a tweet she refuses to delete. This may very well be the event that sends President Trump off Twitter and onto Gab, and all his fans with him. I would love to see this happen. Twitter would lose 40% of its traffic in a single day!
Soave is a fucking cuck.
What I want to know is, how can I buy ten million dollars worth of term life insurance on Hunter Biden so I get rich when his business associates arrange his suicide?

technically solution seems obvious
removing 230 immunity will kill Twitter and Facebook, they will be liable for everything
however, FEC can create an exception
social media can be regulated like phone companies -- only grant immunity if they give up ALL ability to monitor/control content (preferably employees would not even be able to see user communications of any kind unless encrypted)
illegal activity remains illegal, just like on telephones in the 1950s
This.
It is all too apparent the courts cannot be permitted to properly enforce section 230. It must be undone.
They can't simply give up on monitoring content, since that would result in public posting of private information and criminal content.
Websites should be allowed to remove content based on their TOS. The question is, if they employ an editing / fact checking team to promote or delegitimize a certain viewpoint, should be considered as a publisher, not just a "interactive computer service"?
Ol' dad was a real profit center, and it got the dead-beat kid off the family finances:
"Hunter Biden demanded Chinese billionaire pay $10 million for 'introductions alone,' emails show"
[...]
"Hunter Biden was receiving a $10 million annual fee from a Chinese billionaire who has been accused of corruption and with whom he sought to increase the cash flow with a joint business ownership, an August 2017 email from Mr. Biden shows.
The money was for “introductions alone,” said Mr. Biden, son of Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden. Another email to Hunter Biden from a consultant says that a 10% stake in an unnamed company will go to “the big guy?”..."
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/oct/15/hunter-biden-demanded-chinese-billionaire-pay-10-m/
This is beyond obnoxious. A publisher exercising this sort of discretion is one thing. But for companies enjoying government provided protections to engage in such egregious suppression of factual information is an affront to liberty.
Meet the new fascism, too much like the old fascism.
Oh FFS of course Burisma was buying influence. Is this really still a question
Remember when a few Russian Facebook bots and Russia Today were called "election interference. LOL good times
Hey, Russia spent almost $150,000 dollars on bots and Facebook ads and stole the election.
Bloomberg's $1.2 billion didn't have any effect on the Dem nomination though.
Weiner and Hunter are very alike.
I can't wait (actually I can) when the Hunter "crack" sex tape goes on line and it will.
First..Biden bragging we an bribe a country to "fire" its head of justice is sick..sick..America has NO right to tell other countries how to manage their affairs. This alone is the problem with US foreign policy. And no one thinks what the Obama admin did was wrong? This is Bill Buckley crap...the cold war is over..
Second, the dots are a hellva lot closer than the "Russia Collusion"..Biden knew his boy was collecting senious coin in a corrupt country which he was in charge of giving billions...at the very least very poor judgement. Another case of "lunch pail" politicans somehow becoming very very rich in office...
Third...FB, Twitter and the rest are the new "goldman sachs" where inside democratic operatives go when their party is out of power to make millions..these content czars are not software engineers but the usual liberal art wealthy NYC Ivy League Grads who are well connected...hell FB entire senior staff is liberal art majors of the right "group"...and it isn't make of State College Engineers...Dorsey at Twitter is a group rights globalist...they both operate basically a digital bulletin board..and have NO legal right to deny service to customers....I think the CR act of 1964 covers this
"Nor is the story continued herein ..."
Looks like NBC is off the reservation:
"Federal authorities are investigating if emails allegedly discovered on a laptop at a Delaware repair shop discussing Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden’s activities in Ukraine were connected to a foreign intelligence operation, NBC News reported Thursday night..."

Why is every article repeating this meme that "Giuliani is a shady character", and therefore, Hunter Biden's laptop might not be his laptop? Giuliani is supposedly "shady" because he asserted that Biden was engaged in unethical behavior in Ukraine. Trump asked Ukranian authorities to look into that, and they attempted to impeach him, just for asking someone to look into it. Every time more evidence appears, whoever takes it seriously and asks questions gets hit with this same smear, and the evidence is "questioned" because "everyone knows Biden has been cleared"... only Biden has never been cleared. He's never been thoroughly investigated by authorities. He's been protected from scrutiny, and the author of this article is helping that effort by echoing this "poof out of thin air" set of memes to smear any source of evidence against Biden.
This article really isnt aging well with the escalating releases. "Correct" the story instead of hide it, eh robby?
What is there to correct? Seems like nothing is being denied.
At this point, i can only see two ways this plays out.
1). Guiliani oversild this and it blows up in his face
2) hunter dies by 'suicide' to kill the story

If this has any credibility why wouldn't the Wall Street Journal news bureau touch it?
From the WSJ:
"Hunter Biden’s Ex-Business Partner Alleges Father Knew About Venture
Former vice president says he had no involvement; corporate records reviewed by The Wall Street Journal show no role for Joe Biden"
Maybe, but it could also be simply burying a story that's unflattering to their candidate less than a month before the election, regardless of how true it is. Not an indication that they know it's true, just an indication that they're working for the Biden campaign (although I'm sure section 230 absolves them of providing in-kind campaign contributions for their work).
