Brickbat: Getting Their Money's Worth

The University of Queensland, a public university in Australia, is under fire from some lawmakers and professors for an economics class critics are calling propaganda for the Chinese government. The class is funded by the Confucius Institute, a Chinese-government funded effort to build ties between China and Western universities. The course, Understanding China, reportedly refers to "terrorist" activities of Uighurs, an ethnic minority being repressed by the Chinese government, as well as asks students to consider whether pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong amount to terrorism.

And if the students respond to said question with " No. The Hong Kong protests aren't tantamount to terrorism, but, the response by the Chinese government is."?
F
That's what I was thinking, only followed by expulsion and then abduction by by men in ski masks in a windowless van, never to be seen again.
Is it a white van?
I quit working at shoprite and now I make $65-85 per/h. How? I'm working online! My work didn't exactly make me happy so I decided to take a chance on something new…SDa after 4 years it was so hard to quit my day job but now I couldn't be happier.

Jail. Right away. No trial, no nothing. Journalists, we have a special jail for journalists. You are stealing: right to jail. You are playing music too loud: right to jail, right away. Driving too fast: jail. Slow: jail. You are charging too high prices for sweaters, glasses: you right to jail. You undercook fish? Believe it or not, jail. You overcook chicken, also jail. Undercook, overcook. You make an appointment with the dentist and you don’t show up, believe it or not, jail, right away. We have the best patients in the world, because of jail.
Do they have to buy their own 'little red book' or is it provided?
Has to be read online, so they can know you actually read it - - - - - - --
Since when do colleges provide books for free?
I'm sure the proponents of the 1619 Project are outraged at this sort of historical revisionism.
I'm actually glad to see this class in a college. It's a great way for students to learn that maybe what's taught in school often correlates more with what the teacher wants you to believe than what is true.
I agree. This could well backfire for the CPC. Maybe once these students are exposed to stuff that’s so over the top ridiculous that it sparks their skepticism and critical thinking, they will start to employ those newfound abilities more broadly.
Presumes they have skepticism and critical thinking in the first place, and that it hasn’t been completely indoctrinated out by primary school and sheep-like parents who think everyone is out to snatch their babies. More likely creates another thing to be woke about and start a riot demanding we be more like our benevolent Chinese neighbors, who never ever ever bristle at the thought of having their internal affairs meddled with.
"Maybe once these students are exposed to stuff that’s so over the top ridiculous that it sparks their skepticism and critical thinking, they will start to employ those newfound abilities more broadly."
This is how you do sarcasm, people. Nice.
That assumes a level of critical thinking that I see no reason to believe the average modern college student possesses.
Confucius say, "Student who invest in Chicom education get what he pay for."
The United States needs to shut down the China Communist Party funded NGOs, and eject them from the United States. Whether we like it or not, we are now in a cold war, and there will only be one winner here.
Yes, we can't let those dirty freedom-hating bastards have any freedom here.
I think an explanation of why an Economics class is asking questions about the Uighurs and Hong Kong would be in order.
"Because the Uighurs and Hong Kong protesters make and spend money, DUH!"
Wickard v Filburn applies in the PRC?
So according to a recent report the Chinese treatment of Uighars meets the UN's definition of genocide. Think about that. Where's BLM and all the other virtue-signaling fucks on this shit?
Funnily enough, it appears that Australia, which was on it's way of being super-woke, is now 100% done with China after their actions during covid. They've started cutting economic ties to China and are forging new ones with India, something that India has been more than happy to do.
Where’s BLM and all the other virtue-signaling fucks on this shit?
"Brighten the corner where you are."
Also, IIRC, China considers the Aussies as chewing gun stuck to its shoe.
*gum*

lol. No doubt they do. However, China is Australia's biggest trading partner mainly due to China's strong demand for iron ore, coal and liquefied natural gas. Australia cuts that off and China's gonna start to hurt (more than they already are).
Another thing to keep in mind is that at this point only a fool trusts the Chinese to keep a deal, they've fucked over Putin back in 2010 with the Siberian pipeline (waited until the Russians had sunk in 60+ billion into the project and then demanded a lower price or they'd walk.) and have pissed off the entire west with their spying and product stealing. Very few people are going to be in a rush to partner up with China, especially after their actions during covid (such as chinese companies buying up all Australian medical supplies they could find and shipping it back to China)
No, that is naive wishful thinking. If Australia cuts their prices to undercut whoever is supplying India now, Australia loses on the new deal, India gains on the new deal, India's old source becomes China's source at the same price, and China gets a new cheaper source.
If Australia just stops selling coal and iron ore, they lose the entire deal, while all other suppliers raise their prices and make out like bandits, while all consumers lose like bandit victims. That would last a short while until all the Australia suppliers raise holy hell and the old deals resume, with Australia's trading reputation shot to hell.
China banned meat imports from Australia and raised tariffs on barley, iron, coal, and other goods to 80% after Australia called for an investigation into the cause of COVID-19. India has opened up its markets to Australia's barley, and the 2 countries are moving closer militarily as well, having signed in the last month a treaty allowing them to use each other's military and naval bases. Australia has also created a new government review board that will look at any foreign investment in sensitive national businesses, no matter the deal size.
You're looking at this strictly from a trade sense, I have a feeling that Oz and India are looking at it partly in a military sense. Australia's probably starting to feel similar to late 1930s when Japan was a threat, and they're cracking down on Chinese influence inside the country
Won't change a thing except raise prices and make markets more inefficient. That is what governments do: meddle. If you think it will have any political effect, you are just as naive as I thought.
I view my understanding on trade and economic issues generally as poor, it's just not a subject that usually interests me and so I don't tend to spend as much time on it. You could very well be right. However, I seem to recall American meddling in trade over Japan's actions in China having quite a big political effect. December 7, 1941, comes to mind. China's actions over the years are starting to come home to roost, and as a result, they're probably feeling like they're being backed into a corner and being ganged up on. This type of mentality helped drag us into WWII, and it is also this type of mentality that helped set a bunch of USSR international policy, in particular after WWII.
You know the Japanese tried to buy Baja Mexico from Mexico, right? The Japanese - US conflict over domination of the Pacific has a lot of interesting chapters

Waiting in line for organs? Marxists get cancer too...
Damn capitalists, spreading their filth to honest people!
Alphabet, did you mean this response to go under another comment?
Otherwise, making excuses for a regime that practices forced organ donation on a hated minority, would be a new low for you.
maybe they should check to see if there are any hearts available.
