Brickbat: A Big Cover-Up

Hancock, Maryland, Mayor Ralph Salvagno has been charged with malicious destruction of property after painting over Confederate flags that were part of a mural painted on private property. The wall stood outside the Town Tavern, and Salvagno reportedly told police he knew it was owned by the tavern, not the city. The wall is near Breathed Park, named for Maj. James Breathed, a physician and Confederate Army veteran who grew up in Washington County, where Hancock is located, and lived in Hancock after the war. The part of the wall nearest the park was decorated with an image of the Confederate battle flag and read, "Dedicated to Major James Breathed of the Confederate Army." The other part of the wall featured the United States flag crossed with the Confederate flag. The owner of the Town Tavern says her father had the wall painted years ago.

I'm surprised the mayor did it himself instead of sending some government flunky. I guess he at least owns up to his lawbreaking.
Small town of 1500, he probably doesn't have too many disposable flunkies. What do you think this place is, Baltimore? Besides, laws only apply to republicans
I quit working at shoprite and now I make $65-85 per/h. How? I'm working online! My work didn't exactly make me happy so I decided to take a chance on something new…TRd after 4 years it was so hard to quit my day job but now I couldn't be happier.

Why does the distinction between city and private property matter? Vandalism is against the law, and rightly so, without regard to whose property you're defacing. If it's not your property and you deface it it's vandalism, and being mayor does't mean you own public or city property either.
Didn’t you get the memo? Destruction of property is totally cool with libertarians now.
"I don't like statues blah blah blah stupid Firefly quote blah blah blah"
Ironic, since the Firefly episode was about recognizing that anyone with a statue isn't a perfect saint, yet deserving a statue because of an important action.
I thought the episode was about never letting the truth get in the way of a good story, which is why lefties love it so much - especially when that fictional story gives them an excuse to
loot, burn and murderprotest. You had it right the first time.
"and being mayor does’t mean you own public or city property either."
True, but it does mean you get to make decisions about city property like painting over a mural you don't like.
I'm pretty sure if it's city property he can suggest/request it but the city council has to vote on it. But maybe this city has just a mayor who gets to be dictator.
Yeah, I often hear from non-libertarians that we're just anarchists, apparently some libertarians didn't get the memo that we aren't.
Unless he turned the rebel flag into an Antifa banner, he's not woke enough to be my mayor.
Painting it red is close enough.
I quit working at shoprite and now I make $30h – $72h…how? I’m working online! My work didn’t exactly make me happy so I decided to take a chance on something new… after 4 years it was so hard to quit my day job but now I couldn’t be happier.

Well, at least he didn't order an American flag taken down, like the Virginia government did in Richmond.

That would set the blacks against Indians and Asians since both these ethnicities are more successful than blacks in education and careers. Asians are also more successful than whites in education and careers. Should the Asians be paying everyone else? This is the reductio ad absurdum logical argument Click For Full Detail.
Didn't Reason magazine last week assure us these statue/mural problems wouldn't exist if they were all placed on private property...? Almost seems like the property destruction side of the debate doesn't care if it's public or private property.
Can we just skip to the book burning?
Brilliant article. I had wondered how future generations would view the mind boggling hysteria that is currently gripping the whole world, especially Europe and the USA. We look back at past centurhysteria can be – like a stampede. Thought the writer was a historian, his analysis is so sharpies and wonder how they could have been so stupid. I guess it shows how powerful mass . He has seen through the Emperor’s new clothes…Click For Full Details.
