What the George Floyd Protests Say About America
There is still injustice. But there is also progress.

"No justice, no peace!" they shout. Then they break windows.
It makes me furious.
But then I watch the video of the Minneapolis cop kneeling on George Floyd's neck, while Floyd repeatedly says, "I can't breathe," and three other officers just watch.
Then I see the video of the woman in Central Park calling 911, claiming, "An African-American man is threatening me!" But that was a racist lie.
Christian Cooper just asked her to leash her dog. We're supposed to leash our dogs in that section of Central Park.
But Amy Cooper didn't leash her dog. She frantically called 911, claiming she was under threat. She knew that by telling the police "an African American man is threatening me," she'd probably get a more aggressive response.
The left-wing New Yorker (she donated to Democratic campaigns) was careful to use that pointless, yet politically correct, term for black. Even though she's a racist.
Watching things like that should help me sympathize with the people rioting last night.
So should my friend Fabian's experience. When Fabian was 20, he bought his first car, a luxury edition Infiniti J30 Sedan. He'd saved up for it working as an airplane technician, transporting U.S. soldiers to war zones around the world.
Then, while pumping gas back in NYC, police officers approached him, demanding his license and registration.
He produced the documents and showed them that the car was registered in his name. But Fabian is black, and the police would not believe that the car belonged to him. They arrested him and charged him with grand theft auto.
He sat in jail for two days.
Finally, a judge dismissed the case—using the same documentation Fabian had showed the police. They released him—without any apology.
The trauma still haunts him. Fabian says it evokes a sense of helplessness—a fear that "anytime there's an encounter with law enforcement, getting arrested or even death could be the outcome."
Yet, as I watch protesters (even two lawyers were arrested) throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers, and I see opportunistic young people looting stores, and my privileged left-wing white friends say things like, "the looting of our society by unrestrained capitalism is worse!" I get even more furious.
This country, and capitalism, has done more good things for disadvantaged people of all races than any society, ever.
Fabian, despite his terrible experience, says that living as a black man in America is a gift. He came here as a teen from Jamaica. America, he says, gave him opportunity he would never have had elsewhere.
Now, he's a capitalist who owns things. He smiles as he says he sees "a cultural black renaissance: promotion of black education, ownership, and acquiring assets as a top priority."
America, he says, is the land of opportunity.
Even if some cops are racist bullies.
Yet, so much that is exceptional about America is drowned out by the loudest voices on the extremes.
On one side, we have an "unraveling" president, as George Will puts it, an angry bully "banging his spoon on his highchair."
On the other side are the leftists who defend the violence and looting, like the masked antifa children who want to destroy capitalism.
On Twitter, I watched video of a group driving around in a Mercedes-Benz, passing out bricks (for protesters to throw). I applaud the young black woman who called them "stupid" and tossed the brick back into their car, yelling: "This white b— giving a group of black men a brick to throw! You know that s— could get them killed!"
It could. No one wins in these clashes.
I assume there is less racism in America than there once was, but there's no way to prove that. Even if there were, Malcolm X wrote, "If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress."
But I think that's the wrong way to think about it.
George Floyd's killer was arrested and other cops who abused their power were fired. In the past, police officers were never prosecuted.
For years in America, the percentage of interracial marriage has steadily increased. That suggests progress.
Burning police stations and looting stores won't speed that progress. It sets us back.

I can sympathize with them, that doesn’t mean I condone their actions.
Like the virus and global warming, the propaganda over racism spread by the media is infinitely more damaging than racism itself.

What needs to happen is that either police or victims start shooting as many looters and arsonists dead as possible.
It's the only sane answer to "No justice, no peace!" When the thugs are dead, they'll have their justice, and we'll have our peace.

I assume there is less racism in America than there once was, but there's no way to prove that.
Yes there is. It's called the historical record. If you think there's more racism now than the '60s (1960, 1860 or 1760), you're not paying attention.
I too think there is less racism. But if the historical record proves it, then cite it. Show the historical record. Don't just assert it.
I'm a walking historical record. It was much, much worse in the 70's, trust me.
Look up Sixties news videos. When protest were actually peaceful. Dogs were used on peaceful protesters. Water cannons were used on peaceful protesters. Billy clubs broke skulls on peaceful protestors. It was much different. If you were alive then, you would 't have to ask. The protesters understood they were risking their lives protesting.
I think his point is that there is no reliable measure of racism we can point to like there is for rainfall or auto production.
What about racism codified in law? What about race-based slavery? What about overt race-based restrictions on all sorts of typical activities? What about Jim Crow? What about measures of public segregation statements and actions?
Saying we cannot measure improvements in racism is about as stupid as saying there are no improvements in racism.
OK. Is racism now 37.5 compared to 81.6 in 1950?
Having said that, there are numerous measures that are circumstantial evidence: incomes, college admissions, elected officials, % of police forces, etc. These measure outcomes, not attitudes, however. So the impacts of racism have declined for sure.
You seem to be forgetting % of population incarcerated.
Remind me which group that hasn't dramatically increased for. Call me crazy, but sometimes it's more effective to call a problem that affects everyone, an everyone problem. It's better at building a coalition that can get you what you want.
Yeah sure. Let's pretend incarceration is an everyone problem. And hey that it doesn't have a fucking damn thing to do with protests/riots re police interaction. Because hey - that's an everyone problem too. So are courts.
And what's far more important than understanding actual problems that are uncomfortable is 'building coalitions' that everyone can join because everyone can be made to feel that yes they too have the same probabilities of everything as everyone else.
Everything is an everyone problem. Which is precisely why it remains a problem. Because everyone knows that everyone problems are the only ones that persist because if everyone is concerned about a problem then no one has some stake in fixing anything.
A little chorus of Kumbaya shall we?
We have a misandry problem. 89.6% of prisoners are male. Need to start jailing the ho’s!!
"Everything is an everyone problem. Which is precisely why it remains a problem."
That is.....I don't even know how to respond to that. You think that things are only problems if they apply to everyone? The collectivism runs deep with you my son.
What I'm saying has nothing to do with a "kumbaya chorus." I'm saying that if we all realize that our problem is with the assholes who write the rules and give themselves a monopoly on the right to use force using weapons they bought with money they stole from us, we might actually get somewhere. Call me racist, but I don't find breaking people into groups based on their immutable characteristics very useful. But, by all means, scream RACE WAR at the top of your lungs and vote to keep the progressives in charge. This binary choice kabuki theater we call democracy has done wonders for the poor and the marginalized so far.
"Disparate impacts" don't measure racism because they don't consider the individual behaviors that provoke and justify the impacts.
The definition of racism is non-color-blind treatment of individuals. Which these thugs demand more of, not less.
Have we really progressed the problem is that while outward sign of racism have largely disappeared less visible things still exist. Like the tendency for police to stop black drivers. Like a suspicion of black men walking through your neighborhood. We have seen economic advances but minorities are on the bottom of those advances and so the most vulnerable when the economy is down. We seen laws that are designed to stop minorities from voting. Many minorities are today the most exposed to the covid-19 virus because they are front line workers. All of these are also in the historical record.
If the behaviors that provoke and deserve those stops aren't also in the historical record then the record is bullshit.
"We seen laws that are designed to stop minorities from voting."
No, you seen laws designed to stop voter fraud, protecting the valid votes of people of every race. Having ID is a basic part of living in society, and you need it for all kinds of other things too, like opening a bank account, boarding a commercial aircraft, driving a car, applying for a job, getting the electricity and water turned on in your house, buying a house, renting an apartment, or getting public assistance. Oh, and buying a gun, a right specifically mentioned in the Bill of Rights.
If voting is supposed to be a valuable thing, it makes sense to engage in the most modest and unobtrusive effort to make sure the person casting the vote is actually who he claims to be. Claims that these are efforts to suppress minority votes are only true if the minority in question is fraudulent voters.
I have no issue with requiring IDs for voting. I do have a problem when the IDs are chosen because they are more likely to be used by people voting for your party. Why let the legislature controlled by one party pick the ID. Why not an independent commission made up of voters from several different parties, including Libertarians.
As far as voter fraud is concerned, prosecuted cases like in NC were Republicans. Should we allow a party whose member have participated in fraud have a say in election standards. I think not.
The worst is the soft racism of low expectations that rules the progressives.
Are you talking about the low expectation for punishment that white kids often get from society? School and police don't want to deal with middle class white kids whose parents will call out for a lawyer. Easier to dump on poor minority kids. That what you talking about?
I'm a job recruiter with an agency that specializes in placing the newly-released. I work in a pretty diverse area... whites and latino majority, with a significant minority of blacks, as well as pacific islanders. My "caseload" includes all of the above, and assist a lot of whites with criminal backgrounds. I know on most occasions I'm hearing only one side of the story, but much of the time these people have convictions which sound completely bogus.
The 17 year-old who hooked up with a lying 16 year-old (she was actually 14 and admitted under oath, at trial, that she lied to him about her age) and got a Rape 3/Sex Offender designation... the 18 year-old who got a misdemeanor theft charge, for being a passenger in a vehicle with stolen plates. The 24 year-old whose verbal dispute with his girlfriend became felony Assault 4 because a minor was present.
All of the above in the past week. None of the above was black. All of the above are POOR. All three were threatened with much worse charges, but plead down. We are doing ourselves a disservice if we don't approach justice reform across the board for ALL PEOPLE.
The three scariest words in the English language are "state appointed representation".
They say the protestors don't really care about their cities and don't really understand why the police forces in liberal cities are so corrupt and unaccountable. Pretty much everyone agreed with the protestors -- killing a man who is already in custody and no threat to anyone is murder, and the person who killed him should be charged with murder, and it's about time for real changes in police forces and how they are governed. But the killer was charged with murder, so why keep protesting when the protests are being used by thugs and miscreants to steal stuff, burn stuff, break stuff and endanger people's lives? If the protesters cared about their cities, they would cancel the protests and help ID the thieves and vandals and arsonists in the surveillance video. And replace the corrupt liberal politicians who are too afraid of the police unions to hold individual officers accountable for their actions as the warning flags start to accumulate.
Well.. not everyone believes cops should be prosecuted. See the case from 2 years ago involving a similar story to George Floyd. Charges against the cops never made it to murder, and were even dismissed later.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/01/us/tony-timpa-dallas-police-body-cam.html
There are many videos online of protesters trying to stop, identify and turn in violent individuals. I've seen someone try to set off a firework, only to have a protester toss it back in their car. I've seen someone toss a brick at a police line only to tackled by a bunch of protesters and hauled up to the police line for them to arrest him. The masked dude who broke windows at the Auto store a week ago was confronted and followed by protesters trying to ID him for police. It's happening. Just not everywhere, all the time.
Those videos warm my heart. The one thing we should all agree on is that rioters are obvious bad guys. Some cops really suck. Some of the peaceful protesters probably suck. All the people going out of their way to ensure violence happens definitely suck. Feel free to make your own Venn diagram.
If you are referring to the “black umbrella man”, they were trying to ID him AS police.
There's also another video of him walking and talking with pizza box guy somewhere else
The protestors, and the black leaders who swoop in to capitolize on the chaos, all want us to ignore the inconvenient truth: that the vast majority of black deaths are at the hands of blacks.
In my decades of emergency care, I have not yet seen a victim of violence arrive at my ED with a GSW from the police.
Poor urban black communities have a problem. Policing can reduce that problem. When policing is rolled back, Chicago, Fergusson, and other places where sensational cases have occurred, poor urban black deaths have increased.
Communities with high crime rates can benefit from policing. But the occasional policing-gone-wrong video is being used to redirect attention from the reality that blacks are killing blacks a hundred times as often as police are killing blacks. As long as black leaders and black communities want to ignore this reality, then they are doomed to this reality.
Yep. The media and protesters can’t make political hay out of innocent black kids getting murdered by other blacks in black communities, so evidently NOT all black lives matter.
Yep. The media and protesters can’t feel righteous and march if it’s not a white cop killing a black person, which basically everybody agreed was murder in this case. But there’s exactly zero outrage over black on black violence, the body count of which dwarfs police killing of blacks.
When Fabian was 20, he bought his first car, a luxury edition Infiniti J30 Sedan. He'd saved up for it working as an airplane technician, transporting U.S. soldiers to war zones around the world.
Have you ever asked your imaginary friend why his story makes zero sense?
If you can prove the Stossel made this up he should be driven out of the journalistic profession.
You made a serious charge which it should be easy to confirm or disprove.
I'm inclined to think Stossel cares enough about his credibility not to make up something so easily rebutted, but maybe I'm wrong.
Just because someone makes things up is no reason to drive them out of the 'journalistic profession'. For most, it is a reason to give them an award.
OK, how do you know he made things up?
Why did you ask Longtobefree a question of which he didn't assert any knowledge of?
A technician was able to buy a luxury car by the age of 20? You don't find that story the least bit dubious?
I'm sure some MSM journalist could make their bones showing Stossel made this up. (If he actually did)
The MSM has the necessary incentive to pursue things like that, the only question is whether their utter uselessness and laziness would cancel out their bias.
But I'm prepared to believe Stossel for the present.
The MSM is going to investigate a racism story? Are you ok?
I believe it. My husband is an aircraft mechanic, and trust me, it is a lucrative field. So yep, Stossel's story is plausible.
I've known lots of airplane mechanics. Never knew one that "transported" anything, much less soldiers. I also have never known anybody that rode the bus so they could save up to buy a luxury car.
The planes certainly transport things, and the mechanics keep the planes able to transport things. Which do you think is more likely, that Stossel made up a person, or that he munged the two things together awkwardly into one phrase, as people who are talking about things outside their own scope of knowledge sometimes do?
Also worth noting, most military flight engineers start as mechanics. A flight engineer would certainly say he 'transported' people, since he's part of the crew that's necessary for the plane to do so. And I could certainly see a mechanic-turned-flight-engineer describing himself as a mechanic - especially to someone he knows is a journalist, since people often have to dumb things down for them.
There would be no journalists left based on that standard.
The last time a made I that charge, two days ago, I was proven totally correct and Reason said it doesn't matter that they make shit up.
Here, I think it's more likely that Stossel knew a guy one time that told him some bullshit.
Are you referring to the tear-gas thing?
Yes.
At the same time, just yards away, federal law enforcement in riot gear used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse what had been up until then a peaceful protest.
There's no mention of reports or hyperlinks. Shackford offered a definitive account that was extremely wrong in three ways in just this sentence.
BTW didn't know at the time it was all BS. I called out Shackford for pretending he wasn't just reporting his Twitter feed.
https://reason.com/2020/06/01/trump-says-hell-use-military-force-to-restore-order-in-the-states/#comment-8280041
So Scott was at the protest and, which was attacked for no reason, and didn’t bother to record any of it? Is that what we’re supposed to believe?
I believe him. John Stossel is the only person still featured here who has real credibility and principles.
Just because the Welchian leftie anarchistic shitheads lie when they say that all cops are racist murderers doesn’t mean that SOME aren’t. Vicious racist cops absolutely do exist out there.
The day Stossel is no longer featured at Reason is the day there’s no point in sticking around for another second.
^ this; last journalist standing
Agree. Stossel is to Reason what Tucker Carlson is to Fox.
It's probably just a thing he heard sometime. The story doesn't make any sense.
Ladybugs can be prettier than the average insect, but they can actually infest your home & may even bite you. It depends on the climate where you live, Ladybugs can be a year-round problem. https://ask.solutions/how-to-keep-ladybugs-out-of-the-house/

Ladybugs are harmless to people, but they eat aphids that can destroy plants. If you have a lot of ladybugs around, it's because there are even more aphids around. You don't want to get rid of the ladybugs. People buy ladybugs to put in their gardens!
I used to catch them as a kid. Never once been bitten by one.
I've been bitten by a few ladybugs. It's not even really painful, just kind of an "oh!" kinda of thing since I always forget that they can bite
"Then I see the video of the woman in Central Park calling 911, claiming, "An African-American man is threatening me!" But that was a racist lie."
An exaggeration. But he did more or less threaten her dog, saying he'd give him a treat that she wouldn't like (implying it was poison).
Should she have just put the leash on the dog? Yeah, but to say that isn't a threat is just not true.
It seems she forgot that when the cops show up, they will shoot her dog. The certainty of the dog being used for target practice is more serious than the mere threat of a poisoning. She should have just leashed him.
But it was a white dog.
If you read her backstory she is not so much racist as bat shit crazy. I am sure the company she worked for was praying for something like this so they could get rid of her.
Exaggeration my ass. It was an outright lie. She said an African American was threatening her life. She lied. You lie. It was nothing of the sort.
So she's a retard, but probably has a true feeling of fear of black men (like many white women, including good urban liberal womyn). But if delusions make us question her judgement, and disavow her actions, what about the delusions that all these black mom's hold about police just waiting to murder their innocent black sons?
And Jesse Jackson, famously.
I'm not going to defend this woman I don't know and whose mind I can't read and whose sincerity I can't evaluate.
Apparently, the guy told her he might do something to her she wouldn't like. A true threat? To find out, try retreating and see if he follows you. If he does, get the police on the line.
Given that she moved *toward* him to tell him to turn off the camera, I don't think it's credible that she actually felt threatened.
Also, since you seem to be watching videos, how about looking at the video that shows Dave Dorn being shot and killed by looters, with no one helping him. He also says he can't breathe before he dies.
So is this America now? We can't go to church or protest lockdowns, but we can burn down cities?
In Philly this guy tried to break into an ATM with explosives. He's dead now. Clearly a white supremacist booby trapped that ATM in order to harm the oppressed rioter.
Sounds like the Philly thief is worthy of a Darwin Award.
No award for him; but I bet there are lawyers lining up to "represent" his family in a wrongful death suit against the bank, the city, the cops, and Trump.
If there's any justice they'll be laughed out of court. It was a rightful death. Poetically rightful, in fact.
Well, looks like even in a lockdown, the kool-aid is readily available.
1. "Then I see the video of the woman in Central Park calling 911, claiming, "An African-American man is threatening me!" But that was a racist lie. Christian Cooper just asked her to leash her dog."
Sorry John, it wasn't racist. That woman would have called the cops on a purple and green polka dotted man. Giving the cops an accurate description is not racist, any more than using 'man' was sexist. She didn't call when he asked her to leash her dog. She called when he said he would "do something, and you won't like it.", Now that is no more an actual physical threat than saying "when the looting starts the shooting starts". It is a very weak threat, and to actually think it is a threat you have to be very fragile, but we are talking about a New York Karen.
2. "Yet, as I watch protesters (even two lawyers were arrested) throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers". Bad news, John, protesters do not throw Molotov cocktails, rioters do. There is a huge political and legal difference. You just gave up a lot of what credibility you had left.
3. Just wondering, after Robby's whine yesterday, if maybe living in New York is actually bad for mental health.
Mmmm, I think Stossel is by far the most libertarian person to write for this outfit. He's not perfect, but this article was honest. He acknowledged the struggle he's having between his desire to be on the side of Floyd rioters because he agrees what the cops were doing was wrong, but he isn't pretending that rioters aren't burning down innocent third parties places of business at the same time. If everyone at Reason was as honest as him....well, this place would be worth recommending even if I disagreed with everything they said.
The amount of TDS I have seen over the past couple years may have lowered my bar for good reporting to just basic honesty, but it is what it is.
Re point 3: almost certainly. If not the mutual delusions arising from a completely unnatural and detached form of existence, hyper tribalism, institutional corruption, and self aggrandizement, there is the simple biochemistry of over-crowding--like filling a small cage with rats.
"The left-wing New Yorker (she donated to Democratic campaign..."
And let's not forget the Democratic administrations in Minneapolis, Baltimore, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Louisville, Houston, Tallahassee, Atlanta, etc. (many of them with black Mayors) where cops have killed people of color with no repercussions.
George Floyd's killer was arrested and other cops who abused their power were fired. In the past, police officers were never prosecuted.
George Floyd's killer was arrested 4 days after he was filmed live and in front of witnesses committing the act, after the city realized merely firing him was not going to quell the growing unrest. Had there been no protests, would he ever have been charged?
"No justice, no peace" is exactly right - as long as the King's Men are not subject to the law, nobody is subject to the law. The rule of law is now null and void. And that piece of shit Governor Walz is the first one that should bite it. I heard him whining about looting and pillaging breaking the social compact - the same guy who declared himself King by simply asserting that there's a secret clause in the Constitution that allows for it to be suspended in cases of a declaration of a state of emergency. And the majority of governors and our own federal officials agreed with him - in times of emergency, the Constitution goes out the window.
And I blame you fuckers for that. Read your Bible, 1 Samuel 8. "And it came to pass that the Israelites demanded that Samuel appointeth unto them a King that they may be ruled as other nations were ruled. Now Samuel was sore wroth and spaketh unto them, saying "And wilt thou then haveth thou a King who wilt fucketh thou up the ass?" And the Israelites replied unto him, "Nay, verily, surely if we haveth a King he shall be a good King and he shall refrain from fucking us up the ass." And Samuel laughed such a laugh as to cause his buttocks to falleth off and Samuel did fall to the ground rolling about with laughter until he expired. Then did the Israelites appointeth unto themselves a King and the ass-fucking commenced in portions never before seen in all the lands." Thus be the Word of the Lord, blessed be the Word.
Or read Madison's Federalist Papers #51 - if men were angels they could be trusted with the power of government, but if men were angels they would need no government. A government powerful enough to do great good things for you is a government powerful enough to do great bad things to you and if you've got a lick of sense and even a modicum of historical knowledge you should know which one is going to happen if you give government power.
And this is how we came to Election 2016 where our choices were between a fat lying fraud of an imperious immoral piece of shit or Donald Trump. You stupid fuckers keep expecting government to do good things and refrain from doing bad things just like the frog expected the scorpion not to sting him. You deserve what you've gotten. You want to fix government and you expect that demanding that government fix itself is going to get the job done? You're retarded.
None of the libertarians here expect the current government to do good things. Do you know ANYTHING about libertarianism?
Mohammed Noor was arrested two months after killing Justine Diamond. There were no protests. Nothing was destroyed. He was charged, tried, and convicted of exactly the same charges that Chauvin was facing. That is how the system is supposed to work.
Now we've got our seditious AG taking over the Chauvin case personally and already upping the charge to murder 2, because the mob demands it. And Reason is right there cheering them on.
This is a choice between civilization or a mob and Reason chose... poorly.
What in the world is going on with some Reason.com writers repeating left-wing myths about these riots? A riot is not a protest. Looters are not protesters.
What's going on is the same confused thinking that led to the former blog Bleeding Heart Libertarians: some semi-libertarians fell into the trap of buying the authoritarian, communist, bullshit narrative known as Intersectionality and Social Justice.
The assholes behind that narrative have been trying to start Civil War 2 since at least 2000, and I was scared to death they'd do it during the Obama administration and constitutionalist patriots would have to fight as the rebel side. Instead, they chose now, and President Trump can put all the bastards in jail. Hallelujah!
Learn to love the welfare state. UBI for all! And we need open borders to prop it all up.
Every time the blacks have a legitimate grievance they fuck it up by acting like the low class thugs people accuse them of being.
Hmmm. Every time, huh? Maybe the accusations .... aren't all that outlandish?
Do you live on a city? This shit is ridiculous. The cops have every right to shoot violent black criminals. Maybe it's time to privatize it so I can do it. There will be no due process just summary executions.
Above you accuse someone of knowing nothing of libertarianism, but forget here that everyone is an individual and talk about a certain type of people as some sort of collective hive mind?
If the shoe fits...steal it.
Burning police stations and looting stores won't speed that progress. It sets us back.
"It will, however, set back the police and the stores."
We probably could have had meaningful criminal justice reform to curb police brutality years ago, but every prominent instance of brutality is immediately co-opted by the anti-racism movement. By turning every case of brutality into a case of racism (either direct or "institutional") they are alienating a lot of the white people whose support they actually will need in order to end brutality.
They don't know or don't care that police brutality and racism are different problems. They overlap and racism exacerbates brutality for the black population, but racism isn't the main cause of police brutality. The actual cause is the burdensome regulatory state that has grown up over the past half century and continues to grow rapidly.
Voters support politicians and bureaucrats who want to make laws and regulations to control every aspect of the lives of the citizens. Regulations must, of course, be enforced by men with guns. The more regulations you have, the more often those men with guns are going to come into conflict with average citizens and the more opportunities for police brutality there are. This disproportionately affects black communities because those communities are disproportionately poor and crime prone (real, violent crimes) to start with.
The only way we're going to get meaningful criminal justice reform that addresses police brutality is if we stop making it a race issue and start addressing the root problem. End the regulatory state and you have a chance at rolling back the police state. End the war on drugs and make local governments roll back their burdensome regulations regarding drugs, cigarettes, weapon possession, and every other victimless crime. Then we can finally turn our law enforcement officers back into the peace officers they should be.
Racism is still a problem in this country, but it is a separate issue that needs to be dealt with independent of the more important problem of criminal justice reform.
Germany, Switzerland, and the like are replete with regulations up everyone's ass. The cops are not even close to as brutal. Over-regulation is a big problem, but like racism, it's a separate problem.
Police have to start being held accountable for their actions personally. Misconduct has to be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Qualified immunity has to end. Etc.
So how do the Germans and Swiss enforce their regulations? If someone is selling loose cigarettes on the corner, what happens? Do they get a fine that they just never pay?
There's definitely cultural differences. The War on Drugs in the US is by far the largest driver of police misconduct. Germany and Switzerland aren't nearly as harsh in their treatment of drug users and dealers.
In Germany, if a police officer kills someone he automatically goes on trial for murder. Mark Steyn wrote about this.
If racism is a problem, then why does everyone want more of it? Sure, people rant (and protest) against the kind of racism they think is bad for them, or at least racism expressed by people (races?) they don't like. But then those same anti-racists bond together by their own racial constructs and demand that we respect and celebrate their race.
Despite millennia of attempts, humans cannot have it both ways--at least not for very long. If anyone really wants a world without racism (and I believe most people who say that really do not), then we have to give up all racial-tribal thinking and behavior. I would love a world where each person thinks, acts, and is treated as a true individual. But I am not holding my breath.
That's why racism needs to be treated as a separate problem. We're nowhere near "solving" it because people bind their identities to their race too often.
This contimnuies because there is zero accountability.
This sort of conduct should be a capital offense!
Not a capital offense, but kidnapping or unjust detention with a 6-12 month sentence in gen pop.
If you want self-policing (trust me, you want self-policing), then remove QI AND pay all awards out of their pension funds. That's what all of these idiots don't get. Just removing QI and exposing the state, i.e. taxpayer, to civil trial isn't all that much of a disincentive. If you know that Bob's fuckup is going to come out of your pocket, well you're a little more concerned about what Bob does, aren't you?
What the riots tell us is that we have Marxists leading a revolution and their foot soldiers are useless college educated whites without jobs and unemployed blacks -- neither of whom can string a coherent sentence together or do anything other than scream and break shit.
There are so many videos of people trying to ask the rioters/protesters what it is they want, and the responses are something you'd expect from a 5 year old. Like, barely above retarded IQ.
One of last night's national news networks was treating the issue of police brutality as if the city police departments were some kind of independent branch of government which was operating without accountability. Really? You mean that none of these city mayors and city councils is in a position to control the cops? If that is so (and I think all of us know it isn't) maybe Federal intervention is called for under the 14th amendment.
If they try to control the cops they will lose the support of police, police families and middle-aged, middle-class folks, which is the group with consistently the highest local election turn out. The buck stops with the voters and more voters support the police than don't.
Yes, really. This is the root of the problem. Most police forces have no real accountability.
The problem is not that the mayor or council can't tell cops how to behave. It's that they're not willing to.
We need constitutional change so that members of the public have standing to both sue and prosecute any cop or official who violates their rights. Any cop who says he "can't do his job" under those conditions, we don't need as a cop anyway.
Perhaps a magistrate from a different locality would be brave enough to prosecute the cops.
First, most cities have signed contracts with police unions that make it nearly impossible to fire a cop. Remember the deputy in Broward County that hid outside the school buildings while a school shooting was going on, and also intercepted other cops arriving at the scene and kept the outside? The Coward of Broward County is now back on the job, thanks to his union.
WTF is "justice"?
Can we define any universal objective criteria for justice? Something like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Equal protection under the law?
Or is any sense of justice dominated by the personal and subjective? Many people conflate justice and fairness, but what do they mean by fairness? A world of natural consequences and property rights? Or a world of third party interference to achieve some arbitrary sense of equity? And how to define and achieve that, in "just" ways?
My own thought experiment: place each person alone on a stereotypical deserted island, with enough resources for survival--if they make the effort. Anyone who considers that existence unfair cannot contribute anything intelligent to a discussion about justice.
I use the desert island scenario to show leftist how wealth is created.
*really* fucking tired of hearing about racism like it's a borg thing. all the race pimps can fuck off. please and thank you.
So four people on their porch in a quiet upscale residential community, ON THEIR PORCH, got paintballed by the cops for violating curfew. And not hte toy paintballs either.
They were of course hashtagged #whiteprivilege.
WTF?!?!
First off, they weren't disobeying rules. They were on their own home porch. Second, it's not privilege to be on your porch. Black people have porches too, and Black people use them. Third, the protests are over grossly injust police actions, so why the presumption that whiteprivilege folk are supposed to automatically obey the orders of cops being directed by the old boy network at city hall?
This is not about justice. This is once again about Team Sports Politics. White people gentrifying near-to-city communities are obviously Team Red so it's okay to use police force against them when they're peaceful. When they complain lob grenades of "white privilege" at them.
How the fuck is having a porch #whiteprivilege?
having a porch is pretty mainstream now. having a ferrari otoh ...
Don’t you keep a porch monkey on the porch?
Re interracial marriage- Marriage between people of same background is hard enough, but the failure rate of interracial marriages over intracranial is much higher. Not only that, but the odds of an interracial marriage ending in the early death of a partner is 8x more than in an intraracial marriage. Even worse, since blacks are more likely to be involved in multiple person shootings, even the children are more likely to be killed.
But more than that, no one is allowed to celebrate the diversity and beauty of the Caucasian race, which is the most individualistic of all the races. The diversity of eye and hair color was selective for individualistic monogamous marriage.
We can talk about black power, Jewish power, but no one dares talk about whites organizing for their own ethnic ends. It is not about hate, it’s about the political struggle for resources. We need more Charles Murray libertarian race realists.
True, and we also need a relaxation of the discrimination laws. Real racism against blacks hasn't existed since well before the Obama administration, and we need to go back to the attitude common then that race is simply not an issue. But meanwhile, the baiters keep filing bogus discrimination complaints to get undeserved special treatment.
Moreover, a lot of the distrust by both neighbors and police is the natural result of people not being allowed to form neighborhoods that are limited to people they're comfortable with. Voluntary segregation needs to be re-legalized for all groups.
no one dares talk about whites organizing for their own ethnic ends
Not since Robert Byrd died.

Sorry, got an error message, didn’t realize the original post was successful.
I'm getting sick and tired of "Libertarians" (whatever) joining in on the race baiting you pieces if shit. That "racist lady" who called the cops for "no reason" was threatened by that black man which came out in a tweet and an admission by him you sleazy pieces of shit. No I owe nothing to any rioters or looters who have been terrorizing me for years. Anyone white living in a major American city KNOWS there are places you can't go because of these poor peaceful black neighborhoods The Libertarians are scumbags and I'm cancelling my subscription to your
shitty fucking rag. Sell it to the immigrants and the poor poor black people who commit more that half the crime in this society. I live in Syracuse NY and I'm sick of having to grab a weapon to go get at Pepsi at night. And this has been like this since I moved to this city 7 years ago. It's not whites and Asians that create the problems. I am sick and tired of living in fear of black people and you pieces of shit sit here and encourage it. Fuck all of you pieces of shit.
The other three who stood and did nothing, I think?, were Asian , Latino and black with one being a female.
This wasn't a racial incident. It was a police brutality one.
They were acting white.
Don't provoke them by entering their territory. STAY AWAY. Don't be foolish and put you and your family in danger. Just STAY AWAY when you see these individuals. (peaceful protestors)
Here is a video of a clueless parent putting his child in harms way. So what if he needed to take his child to the childrens hospital. He needs to learn no more flaunting his white privilege. He is lucky the group of individuals let him and his child pass peacefully.

STAY AWAY. Protect and Educate your children.
