Brickbat: Well, Shoot

A Claiborne County, Tennessee, sheriff's deputy who fired his gun into traffic on Interstate 75 for no apparent reason has been sentenced to 11 months and 29 days unsupervised probation and a $2 fine after pleading guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Noah Arnwine must also perform community service and take a gun safety course. Arnwine and fellow Deputy Cody Lankford were returning from an inmate transport with Lankford driving when Arnwine pointed a gun towards the windshield of their vehicle and fired a shot into rush-hour traffic. Then assistant-chief deputy Mark Ellis, who investigated the matter, recommended Arnwine be fired and charged with a felony. Instead, Sheriff Bobby Brooks kept Arnwine on but later forced him out over a struggle with a jail inmate nine months later, just as the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began an investigation of the gunshot.

They were coming right at me!
Are we sure there wasn't a spider on the windshield? If there was I would charge him with under reacting. At a minimum the ebook magazine should've been emptied into the windshield. The most appropriate action would've required a flamethrower and destruction of the car.
Entire. Not ebook.
But there is no double-standard. Nope. Ask any prosecutor or judge and they will be indignant that they could be accused of treating cops as nobility, subject to a different set of laws than the peasants who serve them.
It's not like you or I would have gotten an attempted murder charge, along with a few others. Even his fellow cops apparently realized he was a fucking threat if some of them were trying to push him out.
If there's not more to the story, that sounds sociopathic as hell, and he should have caught a felony. He needs to never be in law enforcement again, and really sounds like he ought not to possess firearms from now on.
Assuming there's not more to the story, and there usually is.
So, yeah.
Take Glocks away from cops. Give them DA only with 15 lb trigger pulls.
NYC cops have Glocks but they're modified to have a pretty heavy trigger. I don't know off the top of my head but I think it's around twelve pounds.
Everyone keeps telling me to get an 19. They say it's something everyone should have, like a S&W Model 10 (which I have).
What do you think?
Sarc, ever shot one? They've a different feel than say a 1911, Beretta 92, or Hi-Power. Grip angle is different, for one thing. Trigger feels like a staple gun. OTOH, you could figure out the trigger reset while wearing mittens. And it's a consistentstaple gun. I far prefer a Glock trigger to a DA revolver trigger.
Usually 'accurate enough', and they will---IME, though it's always possible to get a bad one----always go bang. They need a holster. IMHO, it's not optional when owning a Glock.
Cheap, especially if you can get them at blue Glock prices. Extremely durable finish. I'd get one, or at least rent one to try. There's a reason they're so popular.
9mm gives up nothing to .40 or .45 in terminal ballistics, provided you use a decent cartridge. I like Federal HST; there are others just as good in gel. SGAmmo or Ammunitiondepot are great places to get inexpensive ammo.
Thanks!
I can't stand the Glock. That grip angle is just messed up. I have found the XDM to be the better choice.
rent/borrow/try multiple guns, buy one you like.
Some people will say Glocks are the best guns ever made and they would never buy anything else
Some people will say Glocks are the worst guns ever made.
To most reasonable people, they are like everything else: what works for one person will not work for another. I personally own glocks but don't get my panties in a twist if someone else prefers an alternative.
Also: those 12-15 lb triggers coupled with little practice are why you get stories like this https://www.foxnews.com/us/nypd-9-shooting-bystander-victims-hit-by-police-gunfire

If you are going to lie to yourself and rationalize.... Go big, or go home!
There is a lot to chew on in this story. I will give the interviewer credit for at least asking some of the relevant questions. But Soave had some better ones in his article.
We (MSM) haven’t covered it like it’s a big story, so it’s not a big story. So we are going to cover it differently than we would a big story.
Also, one subject was a Supreme Court nominee, and that’s more important than a presidential nominee.
Excellent summary
What's that smell? Oh, it's incomprehensible bullshit.
Straight out of some sort of jr. high student newspaper.
Glad they published this. The rationalizations are so paper-thin.
People should just stop subscribing to The Times. Fuck them. Let them die. If you disagree with their editorial stance, stop giving them money. Why would I (or anyone who loves liberty, justice, common decency) give a cent to those dishonest cocksuckers? Kowtowing to their paywall because they're a rag of some prominence is bullshit.
Firing a gun through the cruiser's windshield during rush hour traffic, potentially endangering civilians = not a fire-able offense.
Getting into an altercation with a jail inmate = fire-able offense.
Seems legit.
Fuck yeah, how fucked up is that?
He stuns (taser's i imagine) a convict who is fighting a bunch of guards and gets shit canned. Obviously there is nothing to see here.
I hope he sues, gets his job back and is then shit canned for firing his gun out the windshield
11 - 29 and 2 dollars? It used to be 1 dollar!
For all those unfamiliar with this phrase, 11-29 and a dollar was a practice in the Jim Crow south.
He pulled out his personal revolver, not his service weapon, and fired a shot through the windshield while playing Russian roulette. If that isn't crazy enough to get someone fired, what is?
He got in trouble for wasting a round without so much as winging a brown kid. Killing a brown kid would doubtless have gotten the oaf promoted.
