Brickbat: Speak Up

The student union at Sheffield University, a public college in England, has informed a new free speech club that it has been classified as a "red risk." That means the student union believes the group will require a high level of staff support, and it will also bring a high level of scrutiny to the club. The free speech group must submit an application for each speaker it plans to host at least three weeks in advance of the event, and the group must receive "full and final approval" before it can host any speaker.

  1. I think this is one of the best blog for me because this is really helpful for me. Thanks for sharing this valuable information for free…

    1. A free speech club in England. Hahahahahahahaha! Red Risk would be a great name for a punk band, and probably the only way to have a “free speech club” in England that doesn’t need ” full and final approval”.

      1. Does red risk mean risk to communism?

        1. I doubt it. How’s things in Columbus? People have been coming from there to shop in Logan, Nelsonville and Athens. A friend that works at Blackwing Shooting in Delaware said they sold out of 9mm and 223 in a day. Their very busy. Good luck.

          1. Well they’re shutting down Tuttle Mall. Haven’t been to Vance’s but I know their putting online orders on delay because they’re having trouble keeping up in the store. I’m starting vacation tomorrow through next week but there is nothing to do. No bars, restaurants, movie theaters, bowling alleys, etc, etc. I might end up cutting it short and rescheduling.

            1. Jed said Vance’s was wipe out the same. Well, enjoy your time off.

              1. Thanks:)

        2. In that university, I think red risk refers to menstruating women who are poised to ban anything and anyone they find annoying.

          1. Hey, that’s menstruating People. Check your privilege, or something.

  2. Well that speech doesn’t seem real free.

    1. They have both kinds of speech. Free and restricted.

      1. Free speech ain’t free!!!

        1. You guys have it all wrong. The free speech club is the thing they hit you over the head with if you say what you think.

  3. This is straight-out empowerment to loudmouths, gasbags, blowhards, and violent people! Just send 1 or 2 gasbags to stir up troubles about speakers with ideas you don’t like, the authorities will say, “Well, Golly Gee, we’ll have to spend a LOT of money to protect you from the gasbags, so… NO free speech permit for YOU!”

    == Assholes’ Veto, straight up!!!!!

  4. I am making a good MONEY (500$ to 700$ / hr )online on my Ipad .Do not go to office.I do not claim to be others,I yoy will call yourself after doing this JOB,It’s a REAL job. Will be very lucky to refer to this…. Read more

  5. First speaker they engage should be a Thomas Paine impersonator giving a reading from Common Sense.

“Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.”

  6. Free speech only exists so much as it applies to the most vile people that you can think of.

A true free speech rally would be filled with anti-vaxxers, flat earthers, hate groups, and raving lunatics. You can look upon these people with derision and yet safety. If “THESE” bozos can speak their minds freely, then your political opinions can be freely expressed.
