Brickbat: But Trump Is the Petty One

A measure that would allow all federal judges to perform marriages in the state of New York passed both chambers of the legislature almost unanimously only to be vetoed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo said he could not in good conscience allow those federal judges to perform marriages because some of them were nominated to the bench by President Donald Trump. New York law allows state judges, legislators, the governor, some federal judges and clergy to perform marriages. "I'm certainly no fan of the judges this president is choosing to appoint—but since any New Yorker can become a minister online for $25 and legally perform weddings, I didn't consider this to be a major issue," said state Sen. Liz Krueger, the Democrat who introduced the bill.

Someone has to be the last man standing in the #Resistance.
Last PERSON SIGNALING, you patriarchal ablest Nazi.
Cuomo is a virtue signaling, petty tyrant. When he could not get a minimum wage law through the legislature, he went around it. It is because of shenanigans like that and similar ones by other notables like Obana that I cannot take the charges by Democrats of Trump abusing power terribly seriously.
I think it’s largely accurate that Trump often doesn’t seem very “presidential.” But abusing power shows he fits right in. I can’t recall any president in my lifetime who didn’t abuse power. It’s all about authoritarianism with both of the major filth parties, and presidents are expected to abuse power as naturally as they breathe.
As for Obama, he ordered the drone murder of an American citizen without trial and later on ordered the drone bombing of the man’s 14-year-old son, who was eating breakfast with a bunch of his teen friends, which makes it multiple child murder. If that is not abuse of power (as well as pure evil), I don’t know what is.
Those who seek power are prone to abusing whatever power they have.
Those who don't seek power, don't get to be president.
Its not murder when the right people kill US citizens.

Not a major issue, and yet you thought there ought to be a law about it. Just exactly how many of your constituents have contacted you complaining about the fact that they'd like to get married by a federal judge but found out their preferred federal judge isn't licensed to perform marriages in the state of New York? And why didn't you advise them to tell the judge he can go online and get a ministerial degree for 25 bucks?
Nobody said politicians had to make any sense....
Not all federal judges That work in NY are NY residents. Some live in NJ, CT, PA, so they may not be able able use that option.
You don't even need $25. The Universal Life Church long ago bestowed on their ministers the power to ordain others. That's how I became a ULC minister, and I've ordained several others. There's even a monastery of ULC (or maybe it's HQ in Modesto, I forgot) that'll send you a gold card for every, how many is it — 6? &mdash' that you ordain.
"A measure that would allow all federal judges to perform marriages in the state of New York passed both chambers of the legislature almost unanimously only to be vetoed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo."
Yet the title is about Trump ?
Typical for Reason which needs to do this
"...because some of them were nominated to the bench by President Donald Trump."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, an elected official, is trying to make EVERYTHING be about Trump! It ain't Reason.com, it's an elected official, with powers over millions of people. I'm glad that I don't live in NY State!
(Reason is trying to help us, the readers, by reminding us, if you do NOT want EVERYTHING to be about TRUMP, don't move to NY State! Sad to say, Trump (now with the help of Democrats) wants, with His YUUUUGE ego, to make EVERYTHING about HIM, so we MIGHT have to end of moving outside of the Milky Way Galaxy!)
I drove right through Trump's ego, because I did not have enough gas to drive around it.
#fatjokesfortrumpego
Poor Andy is still stinging from having to beg Trump to revisit the federal limit on New York state residents ability to deduct state and local taxes (SALT).
The pain felt by Cuomo was palpable. “SALT was an economic civil war,” he said, referring to Trump’s tax plan by employing hyperbole. “It literally restructured the economy.”
"“This should be right at the top of your list,” he said. “If the Republicans ask for the time of day … the Democratic Congress should ask for reform for this SALT tax provision.”
“It literally restructured the economy.” Translation: The rich hid their money and and are fleeing the state with many others.
Socialists hate it when they have less money to redistribute. How are they suppose to get re-elected? Try getting re-elected when your a prog stymied by a $2.3 billion gap in your proposed budget. You know how many votes and campaign contributions that kind of loot buys? Just another example of Trump rigging the elections.
“This should be right at the top of your list,” he said. “If the Republicans ask for the time of day … the Democratic Congress should ask for reform for this SALT tax provision.”
Nope. Too busy pursuing impeachment as a short-cut.

Yeah, I'm a prog (so some say), you're a prog, and your a prog! Hitler and grammar Nazis were progs as well.
We are ALL progs now!
Everything is about Trump! Everything!
“A measure that would allow all federal judges to perform marriages in the state of New York passed both chambers of the legislature almost unanimously only to be vetoed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.”
So there is no way to override a veto in New York?
Just like North Korea?
Override a veto?!?! Are you mad? That would overturn the democratic principle that the people who voted for Cuomo deserve to get it good and hard!
New York has exactly the Governor, two US Senators, and Mayor (of NYC) they deserve. No wonder most of them are miserable malcontents.
But those same voters, when they see how their preferred officials and policies have fucked up NY, then move to other states and start ruining things all over again.
Upstate NY does not deserve those creeps.
No, they don’t. In Spokane, we have a similar problem because of Seattle and the surrounding area. Even the progressives here think that the people running Seattle are nuts.
Andrew Cuomo: an asshole's asshole
His brother "Fredo" is just an asshole.
Note he didn't bother to say exactly what it was he didn't like about the 6 federal judges just confirmed to Federal District Courts in NY; probably just mad they aren't HIS judges...
Cuomo is just butthurt that New York will likely be losing at least one House of Representatives District after Census 2020 is tallied.
As are CA, IL, MI, MN, PA, RI, and WV.
That'll show him.
Alternatively, for the double entendre, 'stickin' it to the man.'
get the government out of the marriage business period. problem solved
Indeed. I do not be'i be in gay marriage. However, if government ceased to license marriage, then it ceases to be of any concern to me.
Which is preferable. I do not want things like that to be my business.
This is just Gov. Andrew Cuomo(D) trying to poke his finger into Trump's eye. Just politics is all this is.
thought Fredo was the stupid one.
Cuomo's smart! Not dumb like everyone says!
hey happy new year Abattoir.
