Curt Schilling Blew $75 Million in Public Funds Making Bad Video Games. Naturally, He Thinks He Should Be in Congress.
Schilling and Trump are alike in attacking immigrants for costing money, while seeking out business subsidies.

Former baseball star and current Donald Trump supporter Curt Schilling is considering running for Congress in Arizona as a Republican. President Trump has declared his support for Schilling on Twitter.
Schilling told the Arizona Republic that he has not decided which of the five Democrats currently holding seats he'd run against, but that he is serious about it. And he made it clear to the newspaper that his platform would be all about blaming illegal immigrants for everything bad:
"The state is not the state I grew up in. Making Arizona citizens of EVERY Race, religion and sexual orientation 2nd class citizens to illegal immigrants is about as anti-American as it gets. When you have homeless veterans, children, and you're spending tax dollars on people smuggling drugs and children across our border someone in charge needs their ass kicked."
It's fascinating that Schilling is complaining about wasting tax dollars on bad ideas given his own history of taking tax dollars and wasting them on his own bad ideas. There's a brief reference to Schilling's antics in Rhode Island in the Arizona Republic piece, but Arizona taxpayers should definitely learn more before considering voting for this nominal conservative.
Schilling founded a video game company named 38 Studios in Massachusetts in 2006 and then moved the company to Rhode Island in 2010. The reason for the move was the $75 million in loan guarantees Rhode Island offered to Schilling. The state promised to repay the money if Schilling's company went belly-up.
And boy, did they. Schilling's 38 Studios released one video game, Kingdoms of Amalaur: Reckoning, a fantasy role-playing game that found some modest success in a pretty stuffed marketplace. They attempted to follow up with the development of an online fantasy game to compete with the likes of World of Warcraft. This ended in disaster, which could've been predicted by anybody who understood the games market of that era.
At the time, World of Warcraft was sitting pretty atop the corpses of every studio that challenged them. Schilling's firm ran out of money before their game was completed. A postmortem revealed that Schilling had no idea what he was doing and dramatically underestimated the risks and costs of developing a persistent online game world.
Ultimately, 38 Studios went bankrupt, everybody who worked there lost their jobs, and 38 Studios' assets were sold off. Schilling took it in the shorts as well, losing millions of his own savings and selling off his home in Massachusetts. After years of legal action, Rhode Island managed to recoup $61 million in settlements, including $2.5 million from Schilling himself.
One lesson here is that government has no business subsidizing video game companies. Another lesson is that post-baseball Schilling talks a bigger game than he can actually play. Given what he did with taxpayer money, it's a bit rich of him to complain about the public (and exaggerated) costs of illegal immigrants. Immigrants (legally here or not) are largely assets to the country and contribute to the economy.
Like Trump, Schilling may talk about cutting government spending, but he's more than happy to feed at the trough when it comes to their own business dealings.
Below, ReasonTV and Anthony Fisher took a deep dive into Schilling and 38 Studios' massive failure:

One lesson here is that government has no business subsidizing video game companies.
But it certainly should subsidize legal and illegal immigrants.
No one here is arguing for that.
Ilya and Shikha both made posts in favor of social welfare spending on immigrants. I assume most of the other Reason staff agree, otherwise we'd see a post in favor of enforcement of the public charge law.
LOL
Uh, did you miss the last few days? Reason has been bashing trumps for not wanting to give immigrants welfare.
Except for every democrat raging against trump enforcing the no public charge rule from the Immigration Act of 1882.
Are those democrats writing articles for Reason or active in the comments section here?
The public charge rule HAS been enforced. The difference is, in the past, an immigrant was considered to be a "public charge" if the immigrant was primarily dependent on cash welfare benefits or long-term institutional care (like a nursing home) paid for by the government. Trump's change includes certain non-cash welfare benefits on the "public charge" list such as Medicaid.
One of the problems here, is as follows. Suppose an immigrant has a job, has done everything right, but gets sick and cannot afford to go to the doctor. If this person signs up for Medicaid in order to be able to see a doctor, would we really think of this person as a "public charge", i.e., primarily dependent on the government? I think that is a more difficult argument to make on a conceptual level than if the person was literally on the public dole, which is what most people think of when they think of "public charge". And if your argument is "well, if an immigrant is on any welfare benefit at all then the immigrant shouldn't get citizenship", then that's fine, but that is not what the law actually says.
Suppose a dirt-poor illegal sub-human is willing to see a VETERINARIAN, and declare himself or herself to "identify as a dog", so as to save money and stay OFF of the pubic dole?!?! Would that be allowed?
No it would NOT be allowed! Because "legal humans" like MEEEE would immediately demand like bennies!!!
NO ONE is allowed to be FREE, lest we set a BAD EXAMPLE of defying Government Almighty!!!
"It's only a little welfare!"
Which is worse - subsidizing immigrants for consumption of basic needs, or subsidizing citizens for production of luxury items?
Not that either type of subsidy is at all desirable. But if you had to pick one that is worse than the other, which is it?
Assuming the amounts are the same, I'd favor subsidizing the citizens.
Why?
It would be easier to end a program that subsidized luxuries for citizens.
If you tried to cut off benefits to illegal aliens, you'd get the sob stories in the press and articles on Reason about how evil Trump is.
Most everyone (except a few connected politicians) think that subsidizing video games is stupid and pointless.
I don't think Rhode Island is investing in any more video game schemes, but they are still handing out benefits to immigrants.
That's interesting. It seems as though Rhode Island canceled this program because they viewed it as a bad investment, and not necessarily because the recipients were citizens vs. immigrants.
Citizens have a legal right to this country. They have a legal right to work. They have no legal right to go to a random country other than here to work.
Illegal Immigrants have no legal right to work here. They are not licensed to do things such as drive. They utilize government resources at a higher rate. Their ESL children take up to 3x the cost of an english speaking citizen child, causing many schools to become worse in various states. Illegal Immigrants have no skin in the game and actually prefer to spend a major portion of their pay as remittances to their countries of origin causing a dump of business expenditures outside of other countries. You are literally arguing to subsidize other countries through the tax base of the US market.
Illegal Immigrants have no legal right to work here.
Now explain why you believe illegal immigrants SHOULD NOT have a legal right to work here.
Yes, I have, time after time after time after time, asked the bigots...
WHY do we "good Americans" deserve ALL of this, for having been born on the RIGHT side of the divide? And those wrong-born by a few yards or more... Deserve NADA of this?
I know how to treat others the way that I would like to be treated. It’s that simple. “Others” includes those that evil people like to call illegal sub-humans, and so forth. If “others to be treated as we like to be treated”, in your “ethics”, does NOT include those born on the wrong side of the railroad tracks (river, mountains, invisible lines in the sand, yada-yada), then WHERE did you get your so-called “ethics”? God? Evolution? The cosmos? Karma? Democracy? Keep in mind that our “democracy” has blessed slavery, Jim Crow, no votes for women, concentration camps for Japanese-Americans, and on and on…
FROM WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR ETHICS HERE?
I have repeatedly asked this question (especially with regards to illegal humans), and I NEVER get answers from the bigots!!!
Their side of the border is a shithole. That’s on them.
How noble of you to insist that they become our problem.
They aren't our problem if they mow my yard for me, or wipe my baby's butt. Whatever other problems they cause? The same can be said of the native-born. WHAT is the magical difference here?
Because they violated the law to enter the country without permission.
If you think we should decrease regulatory burdens on legal immigrants or increase people allowed, I actually would agree with you. We obviously have a greater demand for immigrant labor than our government will allow. However, I do not see how anyone who violates our laws to come here illegally have any "right" to be here. The only "right" that they have is to go home.
If we wish to grant mercy to some people and allow them to stay, then that is good. There are a lot of extenuating circumstances and darn good reasons involved. However, it should not be the default assumption. After all, a law that is not enforced is not a law at all.
Well, I tend to view laws against illegal migration to be akin to laws against illegal pot smoking. I frankly don't care if someone breaks the law. It's the law itself that is wrong, for it violates a more fundamental natural right - in the case of immigration, the right of free association.
Why do you believe these particular laws ought to be enforced?
Jeff, do you go to other countries that have rules and borders and complain about their restrictions on your “right of free association”?
You keep using the word "right". I think what you meant to use was the word "privilege". There is a difference.
Why not Jeff?
Even if you classify citizenship as membership to a club, can you imagine a club paying for a non-member?
Assuming you had a family, would you spend your money to help your family members first or let your family member go without to send support to someone else?
How about your city, do you imagine they want to support softball for YOUR kids first, or send the money to Baltimore so those kids can have softball instead?
Do any of these examples lead you to get the concept?
Jeffrey thinks video games are luxury items... You can't get any dumber.
Just realized Jeffrey is going to be too stupid to undestand this point...
Luxury Good - In economics, a luxury good is a good for which demand increases more than proportionally as income rises
There is actually a reverse correlation between video game and electronic entertainment and high incomes. Rich people tend not to be spending a lot of money or time playing video games. In fact it is often the lower income brackets that devote a lot of time and money to video games and television, not the high income earners.
Luxury goods tend to refer more to housing, high end cars, jewelry, and items that actually increase in purchase as ones income increases. Video games are not in that category.
Well look at you, making some pedantic point in order to argue in bad faith.
I did not claim that video games were a "luxury good" according to some strict economic definition of the word. I claimed that a video game is a "luxury item" because it is not a necessity. Any moron reading my words in context would understand this point. But not you, who had to fabricate a controversy in order to virtue signal to your tribe how much you hate me.
You're probably mostly right about rich people not playing many games.
But I think you're dead wrong about the prospect of increased spending for those with steady upward mobility. People who do play games aren't content with any old system -- else they'd all have Ataris and no new system ever would have entered the market. Gamers want the latest and greatest, not only in the console they choose (initially usually just one but many gamers have multiple platforms), but also in the accessories such as wireless controllers, luxury gaming chairs, surround sound systems, awesome huge HD TVs, superior internet access, and of course, the games. Just playing PONG for the rest of your days might save you money, but by God you will be one bored motherfucker!
There's ALSO the community aspect. Gamers paying to travel, often by air, to gamer conventions, paying for hotels or renting houses for the weekend, eating out, buying fan merchandise, etc..
It's a very lucrative market.
Check this out..
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2019/08/two-illegal-aliens-are-charged-with-raping-an-11-year-old-girl-in-maryland-video/
A couple of illegals brutally raped an 11 year old girl in MD.
Pedo Jeffy approves!
Thank you for proving to us that evil people exist. I'm certain no one at all denies this fact. It is, however, irrelevant to the millions of others involved.
So what better place for an incompetent fumbling fool than the US Senate? He will fit right in.
But he certainly has more real world experience than Bernie.
Fail once, and you are branded for life.
Given what he did with taxpayer money, it's a bit rich of him to complain about the public (and exaggerated) costs of illegal immigrants. Immigrants (legally here or not) are largely assets to the country and contribute to the economy.
Schilling made the same promise to get the $75M from the State of RI. When he turned out to be wrong, the state managed to claw ~80% back. If your immigrants fail to perform as expected, Scott, how do the rest of us get anything close to 80% back?
If I recall, the deal with Rhode Island involved payments in installments, contingent upon the company reaching certain milestones, like "minimum number of jobs created" and "average salary". Nothing about profits, successful beta testing, units sold, etc.
Yet another example of government being lousy at business.
Another lesson is that post-baseball Schilling talks a bigger game than he can actually play.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
You have things a bit wrong.
Schilling's company was always working on the MMORPG (Schilling was a huge Everquest fan), but then put out the other game as a way to get some money. But it wasn't enough to keep things going.
This is one of the least logical articles Reason has written. The article would be better if it solely discussed failed government business ventures and why government shouldn't get involved in markets. But instead they point to a failed business venture as a reason to not join Congress even though there are very few requirements to join Congress. This is terrible article.
Schilling is culturally very conservative. He will be scrutinized and criticized far more stringently by Reason than the myriad liberals who fumbled something in the private sector and then went in to politics.
I'm not saying that Schilling is qualified to be a senator, but the tonal difference and willingness to set aside strict logic is purely because he's the wrong class of person in Reason's eyes.
Seems conservatives do not throw good cocktail parties...
A failed business venture that milked the taxpayer for funding.
"This is one of the least logical articles Reason has written."
Talk about a low bar .....
Immigrants (legally here or not) are largely assets to the country and contribute to the economy.
Continuing the commonly-repeated statistical lie of lumping legal and illegal immigrants together for that stat. *Criminal* (nee' illegal) immigrants are a massive net drain on taxpayer money.
OK, so, then, you are saying, LEGAL immigrants GOOD, and ILLEGAL sub-humans BAD? Government Almighty "papers please" magic papers, makes them all magically GOOD?
Then, did you know that Der TrumpfenFuhrer and His Armies of Bureaucrats LUST SOMETHING GOD-AWFUL after turning LEGAL humans into ILLEGAL sub-humans? Your "Dear Leader" wants to turn Gold into SHIT from "shithole nations" then... HOW do you feel about THAT?
See http://reason.com/archives/2018/10/24/trump-is-building-a-wall-of-bu “Trump Is Building a Wall of Bureaucracy”… Where we see that Trump and his bureaucrats are jumping on any and every excuse that they can find, to turn rule-following non-American residents into illegal subhumans, via any route that they can find! To thwart Congress, which would NOT cut back LEGAL immigration as much as Trump wants!
Trumpistas will tell you, just get out of America before your visa expires.
But... If I fell deathly ill or my plane reservations got cancelled, so my departure got delayed a bit. Then Donald's army of bureaucrats jumps on the chance to turn me into an illegal sub-human.
Telling us what the law is doesn't help the fact that the law is an evil, inhumane ass, as enforced by Donald's army of bureaucrats! Being black and sitting in the front of the bus used to be illegal, too, you know!
Trump is appealing to his racist-nationalistic base, if we are honest!
OK, so, then, you are saying, LEGAL immigrants GOOD, and ILLEGAL sub-humans BAD? Government Almighty “papers please” magic papers, makes them all magically GOOD?
Reading comprehension, mutherfucka.
As for the rest of that incomprehensible gobbledygook, I have absolutely no why you thought to respond to my post with that incoherent Hihn-like mess.
Basically Squirrely is just a stupid fuck.
Learn to READ, moron! Simpler for ya, as simple as I can make it: Legal immigrants good, illegal ones bad, you say. I suspect that you secretly hate BOTH kinds, but set that to the side...
The LINK shows that Der TrumpfenFuhrer (and lackeys) lust after changing the legal ones to illegal ones!!! By your logic, you should be foaming at the Evil TrumpfenFuhrer is doing horrible things!!! But no, your kind would rather fellate TrumpfenFuhrer blindly...
Wow, that's a whole lot of pointless bullshit, childish name calling, and ad hominem attacks, none of which even peripherally addresses the point I made. Could it be I struck a sensitive spot?
" *Criminal* (nee’ illegal) immigrants are a massive net drain on taxpayer money."
In our "papers please" society, issue them their "magic papers", then, magically turn illegal to legal, and all will be well! This is a "fix" for those evil statisticians that have lumped the papered in together with the paper-less!
(But no, that won't work for you; you'll be stuck with one less category of people to blame and hate).
Huh, so you're determined to ignore my point. OK, whatever, idiots gotta idiot.
And haters gonna hate... Did you know that what comes around, goes around?
Aaaand there goes the usual liberal line, demonstrating what SQRLSY really is .... "haters gotta hate", because those pithy one-liners trump (pardon the pun) all! Bet he has it on a tee shirt too.
That we can use political power (along with or without any other form of violence and coercion) to shit on other people, and they will NEVER likewise shit back on us... This denial of karma, this denial of "what comes around, goes around", is what has BADLY befestered humanity throughout the ages! We will NOT graduate from our self-chosen suffering, till we cast aside this stupid, short-sighted selfishness! Wise libertarians understand this. The majorities of the Stupid Party and the Evil Party, both have VERY few clues about it! They're too wrapped up in their different flavors of self-righteousness.
So SQRLSY (below): I should let the entire planet camp in my back yard because "denial of karma"? That the extent of your argument?
Once again, you've ignored the undeniable fact that there's a gigantic "freebie" cost for that global campout, one which will be borne by my kids. But, again, whatever. You're cool with enslaving my kids to even more massive government debt just so you aren't denied karma. You be you.
Maybe be you somewhere else though? 'Cause you aren't adding anything of value to this conversation.
I pay real estate taxes on my back yard, and you pay real estate taxes on your back yard. I wouldn't dream of camping in your back yard w/o your permission, nor encourage others to camp there, either (w/o your permission).
Yet YOU are enough of a collectivist to deny ME the freedom of association that I would like to have, to freely chose to (or to not chose to) employ Pedro-the-illegal sub-human, to mow MY back yard! And when Pedro wants to rent an apartment down the street, which you do NOT own, NOR pay real estate taxes on, you want to be a butting-in Buttinsky and Nosenheimer, and tell everyone else what to do!
WHO is the collectivist fascist here?
I don't give a shit what your Pedro does (nice racist stereotypes btw -- I guess in your mind all immigrants are good for is mowing lawns and wiping butts). I do care that it's statistically much more likely that he and his family sucks at the government teat if he's here criminally, vs. a legal immigrant. Which point you're apparently desperately trying to hide by burying it under all that agitated nonsense, blithering TDS, and straight-up racism.
"I do care that it’s statistically much more likely that he and his family sucks at the government teat if he’s here criminally, vs. a legal immigrant."
Same can be said of having Down's Syndrome kids... Same can be said of people with way-low IQs. So can we, should we, forbid them from having kids? We do NOT care what the PRICES of such actions are, perhaps? And... If legals are good, and illegals are bad... Why not give them their "magic papers"? You've still not answered that question!!! And WHY is Der TrumpfenFuhrer desperately lusting after turning the legals into illegals EVERY chance that He gets?
So, yes or no: Should US citizens be forced to provide lifetime SNAP, Medicare, housing, education, Medicaid and job training benefits for anyone who manages to set foot in this country?
Actually, don't bother answering. Although you'll conceal it in a soup of your patented blither, your answer is an emphatic "yes". Despite the childish anti-government song you repetitively post like some autistic with a keyboard, you want a powerful central government extracting tribute from its serfs to redistribute to any and all who can reach these shores. All to salve your conscience.
"So, yes or no: Should US citizens be forced to provide lifetime SNAP, Medicare, housing, education, Medicaid and job training benefits for anyone who manages to set foot in this country?"
Not just no, but hell no!!!
Question for you: Every time that Government Almighty creates a problem, MUST the solution ALWAYS be for Government Almighty to get EVEN BIGGER, to fix the LAST set of problems that Government Almighty has created?
The collective hive mandated WAY too many licenses, before we're allowed to earn an honest living... Min wage too, health insurance mandates, etc. Put too many of us into poverty. To "help" with this poverty problem that The Collective Hive created, The Collective Hive gave us welfare. Welfare then attracts too many illegal sub-humans, sometimes, so to fix THAT problem, The Collective Hive now wants e-verify and giant border walls and giant border armies… And now also property confiscations for wall-building… So I suppose The Collective Hive will next fire up the military draft to fix THAT problem! (Lack of a large enough wall-and-army forces).
When will we stop the perpetual cycle of Government Almighty always getting bigger, to fix the LAST batch of problems created by excessive Government Almighty?
“So, yes or no: Should US citizens be forced to provide lifetime SNAP, Medicare, housing, education, Medicaid and job training benefits for anyone who manages to set foot in this country?”
There are three possibilities.
The workers at the chicken factory are using false identity papers. They get a taxed paycheck and will see no Medicaid, Medicare, social security or any of that.
There are those who do cash work on the side. They may be eligible for SNAP or other government programs like Medicaid on a state by state basis. I know many people who are citizens who do the same. They underreport income if they can.
There are those who earn nothing. It is not so easy for them to get all you list. You need documentation in most places to get that.
There is no reliable source to figure out the percentages.
I propose a temporary permit which allows someone who shows up at the border to live and work legally. After some time period the person can apply for citizenship or permanent residence.
Reason continually publishes intellectually lightweight takes on libertarian theory, but still believe they should continue to publish
"Reason continually publishes intellectually lightweight takes on libertarian theory..."
All rightee then, intellectual heavyweight, ya ain't said SHIT about what YOU think! It seems easy to be a critic, when you won't even say WHAT THE HELL?
I for one say freedom good, slavery bad, and Orange Man bad, or WAAAAY worse... What do YOU say?
I say you got hold of an especially bad batch of plastic flutes today.
I take issue with the title. The game they made was actually quite good, but not as successful as they needed. Obviously a significant failure as a business venture, but not a creative one.
'"The state is not the state I grew up in. Making Arizona citizens of EVERY Race, religion and sexual orientation 2nd class citizens to illegal immigrants is about as anti-American as it gets..."'
Another would-be politician pandering to a delusional, paranoid, and xenophobic group of potential supporters.
Xenophobic? Odd...the quote specifically refers to all races equally being subservient to illegal immigrant. So the only mention of race is to indicate they're treated equally poorly in comparison it illegal immigrants.
Or, hmmm...are you perhaps implying that "illegal immigrant" is a race? 'Cause that would be weird.
Xenophobia, in it's purest sense, has to do with the fear of the unfamiliar, or the fear of strangers. Humans are hardwired, by evolution, to fear the unknown and unfamiliar. An oft-cited example is two people who hear a rustling in the bushes. One thinks it's a lion and moves away. The other assumes it's the wind and ignores it. One time in 1000 or so, the one who moves away is correct, and the other one, who does not move, does not live to reproduce as many children. Racism is only one example of xenophobia, and may, or may not, play a part in Schilling's comment, if, indeed, that comment actually reflects his view on the subject. (I try to not assume that such comments actually reflect such views, especially with politicians.)
AlbertP, you're a fart smeller (I mean, a smart feller). Sociobiology sure looks correct to me! It is good to keep in mind what our inborn nature is, as we try to use logic and the evidence of our senses, to try and move forward to a better place. Xenophobia (and wars on other tribes, in times of resource shortages) were OK in the past. Now, with nuclear weapons in more and more nations, we'd better tread carefully!
SQRLSY One:
I am not a huge fan of sociobiology, but the ideas of E. O. Wilson certainly have their place in the study of human behavior.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning was a pretty good game. I was very active on the official messages when it was in development and when the board still went on weeks after the company went under.
The MMO was too ambitious but iirc they was a decent chance Shilling would have gotten more money (from various investors) if Rhode Island had not outed their bad looking situation (which was being turned around at the time by the release of KoA the single player rpg). The game ended up doing pretty well even with the fact the company went under shortly after released and could not support it at all (patches and whatnot) but might have been able too if RI did not throw them under the bus so soon .
I am making 8 to 10 dollar par hour at home on laptop ,, This is make happy But now i am Working 5 hour Dailly and make 40 dollar Easily .. This is enough for me to happy my family..how ?? i am making this so u can do it Easily....

That's just great!
Do you think you could get SQRLSY a job there? I mean, if it is a job that requires no skills, or analytic abilities he should be able to handle it. And he really needs something to do that will keep him busy, and give he some self worth.
Just asking!
Gamers are so fucking nuts that some of them think Amalaur is a decent game. I've never played it, and never will so long as it costs more than a dollar (taxpayer funded games need to be free). But from what I've heard it on the level of a single player MMO. Endless grindy fetchit quests. Not my bag at all.
I love going on gamer forums and breaking the news that Kingdoms of Amalaur was taxpayer funded. Most gamers have no clue about that. And in an industry where consumers lose their collective shit when a company decides to charge a microtransaction for an addon, those same consumers are going to explode when they learn that they've already paid for a game through their taxes whether they've played it or not.
ok, I am not in favor of these government guaranteed loans, but let's not misrepresent them.
These are NOT gifts of public money. If you are looking for examples of THAT look at Tesla or all the now defunct Solar Cell Companies.
The state government here essentially co-signs for bonds (loans) for the company. Like any other loan, if the company survives it pays the loan back itself. If the company fails, the co-signer pays the loan and recovers whatever assets it can based on the details of the contract.
This was a bad deal for the state, but it is not a publicly funded game.
Schilling is a hero not a hypocrite! If the governments offers you money, take it. It probably was stolen from you in the first place so consider it a refund. And if too many handouts like this push the government into bankruptcy, thus putting them out of business ... great! Meanwhile, granting all kinds of welfare and other services to immigrants who have not paid into (or first been robbed by) The System doesn't seem to be particularly smart policy. (Although, if it bankrupts the government ... great!)
"Curt Schilling Blew $75 Million in Public Funds Making Bad Video Games. Naturally, He Thinks He Should Be in Congress."
Sounds a bit overqualified.
The federal government spends about 12.4 billion dollars a day. Per Senator, that's 124 million dollars a day. Schilling blowing through 75 million is only 60 percent of a day's work for the average Senator.
"Former baseball star and current Donald Trump supporter Curt Schilling..."
OH NO! Not a Trump supporter!
Seek help, Shackford.
Many of the above comments completely miss the point of the article. The point of the article is not to support the position that “illegal immigrants are not a problem and we should all pay for them without complaint.” The point is that here is yet another “conservative” blowhard complaining about people who take handouts when he was literally one of the biggest handout-takers ever and to make matters worse it was taxpayer money that he was taking. And when he failed he wanted more bailouts. So like many other rich conservatives he is a complete and utter hypocrite. And a bombastic one to boot.
So if $75 M is scandalous where was your out cry when Obama gave $500 M (6.66 times) to Solendra of public money knowing it was already a failure. That was TOTALLY PAYOLA by Obama. Oh yes ........ you are saying you report facts. That is total BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike Obama who put none of his own money on Solendra Schilling put $50 M + of his own money on the line with the Studio Venture. Schilling lost most of his baseball money on the failed venture. Did the State of Rhode Island do their proper due diligence before they decided to invest $75 M in the Studio 38 Venture. I do not think so.
Kingdoms of Amalaur: Reckoning was an awsome game, you cheeto-stained Headline Writer.
Ahhh Kingdoms of Amalaur: Reckoning. I liked that game, but it was not as great as it was hyped to be. Damn sure should not have gotten government money though.
If Schilling had just retired after the 2004 WS and kept out of public life his legacy would be one of a sporting legend; a hero of the 2004 ALCS, and a member of the curse-breaking Red Sox WS team.
The state government here essentially co-signs for bonds (loans) for the company. Like any other loan, if the company survives it pays the loan back itself.
