A new law in New South Wales, Australia, could force the Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum to destroy or sell 70 percent of its collection. The law requires all pistols and many other types of firearms to be rendered permanently inoperable. That would require parts to be welded together or a steel rod to be inserted into the barrel of a gun and welded in place. Museum officials say if they cannot get the law overturned they will sell the collection overseas.

They don't need to get the law overturned, they just need an exemption amended into the law. Getting an exemption amended into the law is fairly simple, but there is the matter of getting someone to take the time and energy to write the amendment and get it typed up and make copies and file the paperwork and so forth and so on and all of these things cost money that legislators don't have but might be willing to spend if they did have the money. cough, cough

That reminds me, I figured out a timer mechanism for triggering a fumigation bomb in case someone wants to be at the airport by the time the flammable pesticide interacts with the scented candle he accidentally left lit in his apartment. Simply attach something light that holds water, like the cap to a can of spray paint, to the trigger for the fumigation bomb with the open end of that object turned up. Then let the sink in the bathroom slowly drip water. Position the improvised device under the dripping faucet so that the dripping water fills the cap and its weight triggers the fumigation bomb. Try it once or twice without the candle lit to make sure it works before that vacation in GMT +1 and GMT +2.

It's funny how cheap swill from other countries is often marketed as something premium in the US.

In fairness, it often is premium when marketed overseas. That is, it's a completely different product.

Budweiser, for example, is considered a pedestrian beer in the US and a premium beer in Germany - and having tasted it in both places, both those statements are true because they are different beers despite the common name.

For another example (non-beer), in Europe Aldi's is a high-end grocery brand while in the US it's a discount brand with a very different mix of products and pricing strategies.

Could well be. I had Budvar in the Czech Republic 18 years back and it was a decent drink, whereas US Bud as I recall is insipid pondwater at best. (Disclaimer, I am not a big fan of beer, so I may have been missing something.)

To some extent that is true. You don't need a gun to rob an old lady if you know the old lady doesn't have a gun. You just need a knife or a club or some muscle. It's almost as if guns don't guarantee safety, but do wonders to level the field...
