Elizabeth Warren Wants You To Know She Totally Loves Game of Thrones. Especially Daenerys. Yay, Women!
How do you do my fellow kids?

What's more cringe-inducing than Jaime Lannister coming face-to-face with the kid he pushed out a window in order to cover up the fact he was banging his sister? This article by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.), titled "The World Needs Fewer Cersei Lannisters," for starters.
Warren's 2020 Democratic presidential nomination isn't going so well, which has forced the senator to make desperate bids for attention. Her The Cut article is more of the same, ham-handedly name dropping a bunch of Game of Thrones characters and plot points in an eye-rolling, how-do-you-do-my-fellow-kids sort of way.
"Daenerys 'Stormborn' Targaryen has been my favorite from the first moment she walked through fire," writes Warren. This is like saying George Washington is your favorite president, The Godfather is your favorite movie, and if you could have dinner with any person living or dead you would pick either Albert Einstein or Jesus. Yawn.
Why does Warren love Daenerys? Because she's "a queen who declares that she doesn't serve the interests of the rich and powerful … a ruler who doesn't want to control the political system but to break the system as it is known." But this is quite a stretch. Aside from her campaign to abolish slavery in Essos—a crusade that destabilized an entire region, claimed the lives of thousands of people, and may very well have failed (sound familiar?)—Daenerys is mostly a conventional monarch with conventional entanglements, goals, and tactics. She counted the extremely wealthy Tyrell family as among her most powerful allies until enemies wiped them out.
Warren also loves Daenerys because she sees something of herself in the strong female politician who has dared to play a man's game. But she doesn't love that other strong female politician: Indeed, much of the piece is about why Queen Cersei is bad. Banks! Too big to fail. Privatization! Seriously:
Unlike Dany, Cersei doesn't expect to win with the people — she expects to win in spite of them. When Cersei's brother (and lover) Jaime begs her not to wage a war — arguing that they don't have the warrior strength of the Dothraki or the allegiance of the other houses, she replies with all the confidence in the Seven Kingdoms: "We have something better. We have the Iron Bank." Rather than earn her army, Cersei's pays for it. She buys 20,000 Golden Company mercenaries — though they arrive without their legendary elephants — with funds from the Iron Bank. But Cersei has no intention of sending her private army north to help defeat the army of the dead — that's Jon and Dany's problem. No, Cersei's army will sit back and wait for whatever comes their way. Cersei's betting on the strength of the bank to get her through the biggest fight of her life. It never crosses the mind that the bank could fail, or betray her.
Cersei is a tyrant who burned most of her enemies alive. But Daenerys has also roasted a lot of people—including some who already surrendered and were no longer a threat to her, as Samwell Tarly tearfully reminded viewers in the season premiere. If Daenerys displaces Cersei and captures the Iron Throne, for many inhabitants of Westeros it will feel a lot like swapping one tyrant for another. The same could be said, of course, in the event that Warren defies the odds and captures her own Iron Throne.

I guess it's pretty clear Warren hasn't actually watched the show. Daenerys no only wants to control the political system, she will kill anyone or group that won't "bend the knee" to her will. Or, maybe Warren has watched it.
I think this is just a way for Warren to send a message to her nephew, if you know what I mean.
Darn it, I hit the red flag without meaning to, I hope they're not actually moderating anyone.
Yeah, I never understood why people think Daenerys "breaking the wheel" is some sort of progressive metaphor. She fully intends to rule as an autocratic monarch, and by breaking the wheel she only seeks to ensure it will never raise another up to supplant her
How is that not a progressive metaphor?
I meant more in terms of what they pretend to be, not what they actually are
Yet another reason for me not to watch that show.

Nice one, Robby. I chuckled at that.
I know, right? One time I found out Obama likes beer, and I haven't had one since!
Obama likes beer?! *spits beer across room*
Comrade Warren wants to eliminate all student debt loans.
Good new for SJWs with degrees in post post-modern male feminist yoga studies !!
And Daenyris just found out she is second in line to the Targaryen claim to the throne behind a man.
Behind Hillary? Ugh.
Epic Rap Battles of History: James R. R. Martin v. J. R. R. Tolkien
I'm trying to think of which female character Warren most resembles...Shelob?
Do we have to limit ourselves to female characters?
Yes, Shelob and Ungoliant are excellent examples of strong female characters.
Ungoliant.
Gollum. Every candidate resembles Gollum.
I still like Warren, but this GoT analysis seems like a rare misstep. In fact, by claiming a right to rule based purely on her family name, Daenerys is the epitome of white privilege. Which is exactly what we in the progressive / libertarian alliance want to dismantle.
Besides, this show's most relevant political lesson is that walls are stupid and racist and don't even work.
#NoBanNoWall
#BreakThroughWallsWithZombieDragonFire
Actually, walls work quite well until the migrants obtain a zombie dragon.
Of course zombie dragons don't exist in our world. But on the show they're clearly a metaphor for Koch / Reason immigration policies. That's why I think the Night King is actually a good guy.
He goal is to kill all human memory. Of course you would favor that.
If its a metaphor for immigration policies then its clearly pro-Trump, the Night King is literally leading an invading army
However, Jon Snow has shown a definite preference for certain types of migrants over others. You know, warm and preferably ginger.
Killing it, OBL!
+1, #BreakThroughWallsWithZombieDragonFire"

Don't mansplain it! No spoilers!
I'll just leave this here.
...the kid he pushed out a window in order to cover up the fact he was banging his sister?
Holy crap, spoiler alert!

Soave fails again.
If Daenerys is a conventional monarch, it's because she doesn't seem to care as much about being a different monarch as much as she cares about being the only monarch of the seven kingdoms. This was demonstrated in last night's episode, when her reaction to Sansa Stark asking Daenerys what would happen to the North when the North wouldn't bend the knee to her, and Daenerys reacted with revulsion. This was also demonstrated when she reacted with revulsion to John Snow revealed to her that he is the rightful heir male heir to the Targaryen throne. Everything she's done has been to further her claim on the Iron Throne, including her using her army to fight the Army of the Dead. She only brought her army to Winterfell once she became convinced that the whitewalkers presented a greater threat to her throne than Cersei Lannister. That's why she's a conventional ruler. If she were unconventional, she'd care more about the people than whether she was the one that ruled them.
P.S. Either an evil soul will end up on the Iron Throne or the pursuit of the Iron Throne will corrupt him or her. If it were otherwise, Martin wouldn't be an anarchist. It won't be an Aragorn crowned as rightful king and ruling justly for aeons. If there's a happy ending at all, it will involve the people rising up against the new king and establishing an anarchist society. More likely, there won't be a happy ending.
How is that a Soave fail? Seems like he was saying more or less what you said.
"She counted the extremely wealthy Tyrell family as among her most powerful allies until enemies wiped them out.”"
That is not why she is conventional.
Last night showed why she's conventional.
Part of Daenery's story is how people start out with decent intentions but end up becoming exactly what they hated because we are not so different. It's the Nietzsche warning about fighting monsters. The lesson is to never soak too long in the bath of ideas. Quick in and out. Of course I'm hardly intelligible so if you don't understand what I'm getting at you're excused.
"Part of Daenery’s story is how people start out with decent intentions but end up becoming exactly what they hated because we are not so different. "
Daenerys always wanted the throne and has always been willing to kill people to get there. The only difference between her and Cersei is that Cersei prefers to kill people as the quickest and most convenient approach and for Daenerys it's a last resort.
Daenerys didn't have decent intentions to start with.
You know who else didn't get a happy ending?
The armorer's apprentice? Oh no, never mind.
What a poser.
Just for laughs, I hope some interviewer asks her who her favorite hip-hop artist is.
"Well, ah, I don't consider myself entitled to privilege one artist over another, they're all wonderful except the sexist ones, of course, and I'll send you a follow-up email with more details as soon as I've consulted my staff...I mean, thought about it some more."
I don't think Warren has watched enough of the show to understand the dragon queen's character faults. She's not a flawless heroine by any means.
She checks almost all of the progressive boxes...
"Warren's 2020 Democratic presidential nomination isn't going so well, which has forced the senator to make desperate bids for attention."
Read this once already today; but go ahead and repeat it.
Totally desperate for attention. She spoke at my son's commencement. One would think she hung out at the student's watering holes.
NERRRRDS!
The world does need fewer Cerseis. Warren, who is only 1/1024th Targaryen, should drop out.

That whole episode was lame. The only thing of any significance that happened was **spoiler** Aryea losing her v-card. The scene would have been fine except she has the body of a 12 yo boy. Sansa, on the other hand, is a total fox. To be honest, I don't really care for Incest Auntie Targaryen.
Why does Warren love Daenerys? Because she's "a queen who declares that she doesn't serve the interests of the rich and powerful … a ruler who doesn't want to control the political system but to break the system as it is known."
So you're saying Warren wants to be a monarch. Whatever. Ima go get me a beer.
The best part of the episode was my girlfriend turning to me before Daenerys had her sit down with Sansa and stating "this better not be some BS women's lib episode."
So there was the whole yass Queens scene, the knighting of Ser Brienne, and then Arya having her way with Baratheon's bastard (if we want to play the privilege game). It was a women's lib episode on multiple fronts.
Dude. It's been chick power all the way down for the last five seasons.
The best thing that could have happened would be a Sansa/Daenerys sex scene. With toys.
HBO Go had the title of the episode as "Game of Thrones: Episode 69." I really had higher hopes for it.
Tyrion is apparently only the God of wine now and has given up on tits.
Oddly enough, though, I remember thinking "Hmm. I don't think this conversation between Daenerys and Sansa passes the Bechdel test. Damn if that must not disappoint, like, 80% of the blogosphere. How do you fail to knock that one out of the park?"

I like the part where Daenerys has to travel to the Emerald City to return the ring to the Princess Bride, and Conan the Barbarian and Hercules join her to help fight Grendel.

I must have watched a different show than you. Because Daenarys, the daughter of an insane king, who has basically no redeeming qualities and refuses to address the issue of, you know, her mad father and his tyrannical reign and why she should sit on the throne beyond 'I have dragons' (a fucking magical cop-out IMO, those things are) and constant repetitions of 'its my right!'.
Jesus, are people actually rooting for her? Not Brienne? The quite possibly only 'strong, female, character' (and strong female character) who isn't also a total raving psycho?
By re-implementing the 'mad tyrant who burns thousands of people alive' system that was working so well before those dastardly
RepublicansLannisters got in the way.Yeah, Warren? Did you notice that big ass army and, you know, the DRAGONS, she's brought with her and has been using on anyone who gets in her way? Neither of these women 'care about the people'.
How do you do, fellow kids, indeed.

It's not smart to declare any of the characters your personal hero. The whole point is that they are all flawed and make sometimes horrific mistakes even with the best intentions. Dany has long been compared to W. Bush, and I predict her tyrant instincts win out and Jon Snow will have to take her out in the end.
...whereupon he gets killed, and Tyrion and Sansa take charge.
"Then comes another, younger, more beautiful, who will cast you down and take all you hold dear", remember?
Hey, I agree with Tony for once! I think she's kind of a bitch on a virtue signalling trip, like most proggies... Jon Snow better be the one who fucks everybodies shit up and ends up ruling. He really is the best out of any of those bastards (literal and figurative).

I seem to recall my son or grandson attempting to explain the significance of this program to me and thinking to myself "why would I give a shit?" Well thank god we have Top Women, living on the public dole, who have time to contemplate the meaning of fictional characters in some TV show. Hopefully she'll have time to explain The Jetsons and the ability of the writers to foresee future events with such uncanny accuracy.

Warren is like Daenerys? All I know is, the few times we saw Daenerys totally nude, it was quite pleasant. Seeing Warren that way would be more like waterboarding.
