Go Ahead, President Trump, Shut Down the Government
And then watch your poll numbers tank
Stephen Miller, President Trump's chronically angry White House aide, assured everyone Sunday, on national TV, that the POTUS

wasn't kidding when he told Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi last week that he would be "proud" to shut down the government if they didn't give him border wall money.
Yesterday, it seemed like Trump might have been. For the second time in less than a week, he issued the threat only to get cold feet with his press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggesting that he might, in fact, be willing to compromise.
This has been Trump's pattern since he got elected. But the only way he will permanently call off this threat is if he follows through on it once, I note in a column at The Week.
Trump is of course obsessed with "winning." And he thinks he can win by rallying his base. Only when it becomes unambiguously clear to him that a government shutdown will lose him more independents than gain him Republicans will he stop yammering about it.

...And watch the propagandists like Shikha spread more propaganda.
By the third paragraph I realized I had either just visited Huffpo, or accidentally clicked on a Shikha article.
Nothing would make me happier than an extended public demonstration of the needlessness of 15 percent of the federal government
If government shuts down, who will tell Shikha what to do?
The prospect of not getting her food stamps terrifies the living fuck out of her.
It is not even a full shutdown. The Republicans actually followed a proper budget process for once and have already funded large parts of the government. So this isn't some giant omnibus bill that includes every dime the government spends. So, people will notice a shut down even less than they normally do.
Trump folds like a tent, again,
His toadies claim a victory, again.
Stephen Miller, President Trump's chronically angry White House aide
LOL at Shikha calling someone chronically angry.
Since when does an ostensible "libertarian" care more about poll numbers than shutting down the government?
Not all libertarians are counterproductive, impractical, disaffected, spiteful, resentful malcontents.
Jesus Christ - I don't normally hate on Reason like many of the hit n republicans around here, but since when do libertarians care if the govt shuts down?
When it affects their lives personally, of course.
Trump is of course obsessed with "winning."
And Shikha is of course obsessed with Trump.
Only when it becomes unambiguously clear to him that a government shutdown will lose him more independents than gain him Republicans will he stop yammering about it.
Only when it becomes unambiguously clear to her that a government shutdown will end with Pelosi surrendering and Trump winning will she stop yammering about it.
Libertarian moment!
Why should we care if Trump's poll numbers suffer from a shutdown?
Why is that even an argument being made here?
Heck, I doubt that Trump would care very much about it. He's never seemed overly worried about it in the past, judging by his willingness to say/tweet things out loud that draw fire.
tilting at windmills is fun!
