LibertyCon is the annual event for Students for Liberty, drawing 2,000 students, activists, and others from all over the planet. This year it's being held in Washington, D.C., from January 17 to 20 at the Marriott Marquis.

Some Reason-related highlights:
- On the evening of Friday, January 18, I'll be interviewing the controversial chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, whose office rolled back "net neutrality" rules only to see internet connections get faster and more ubiquitous. I'll be talking with him about tech-sector regulation, including threats from President Donald Trump and other Republicans to treat internet platforms as public utilities.
- Reason's Robby Soave will be previewing his forthcoming book, Panic Attack, which investigates and explains why campus activism is out of control these days, with protesters shutting down people they don't like and refusing to engage ideas they don't understand.
- In "How to Stop Moral and Political Panic Over New Technology," Reason's Peter Suderman will explain how today's outrage over social media is rooted in earlier freakouts over video games and earlier digital technologies. The difference these days is that whole modes of self-expression are being vilified and demonized.
- Reason Magazine Comes Alive! Featuring Matt Welch, Katherine Mangu-Ward, Elizabeth Nolan Brown, Eric Boehm, and the comedy offerings of Andrew Heaton and Austin and Meredith Bragg, this is a live performance of your favorite magazine.
- "Saving Heterodoxy in an Age of Political Correctness." In a wide-ranging discussion of how to get heterodox ideas out to the widest possible audience, I'll speak with "factual feminist" Christina Hoff Sommers, free-speech absolutist Brendan O'Neill, and Iraqi refugee Faisal Saeed Al Matar, whose group Ideas Beyond Borders translates secular Western works into Arabic and distributes them for free in the Muslim world.
- A conversation with William Weld. Reason sits down for a no-holds-barred interview with the highly esteemed and highly controversial former two-term governor of Massachussetts, who is a frontrunner for the 2020 Libertarian Party presidential nomination. Can his vision of a radically centrist politics change the way we talk about politics?
And those are just some of the Reason-related highlights at LibertyCon.
There will be a series of great keynotes (including ones by Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan and Arthur Brooks of the American Enterprise Institute) and a series of debates on topics such as immigration, free trade, the costs of the drug war, universal basic income, and how to approach climate change. A criminal justice panel will feature Reason alum Radley Balko, now at The Washington Post, and one of the lawyers defending Steven Avery of Netflix's Making a Murderer. Georgetown Law School's Randy Barnett and Harvard's Alan Dershowitz will tangle over the Constitution in the Trump era. The list of great speakers and panels is virtually endless.
