Brickbat: And What About the Students?

About 80 teaching assistants at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill say they will not turn in final grades until the school abandons plans to return the statue of a Confederate soldier to campus. Silent Sam stood on the campus for more than a century until the statue was toppled by protesters in August.

So 2000 students submitted finals
The grad students who grade them are on some kind of strike about a statue.
Did I miss something or is it really this stupid.
I think you just about have it.
Sounds like a bunch of grad students need firing.
Instead they should put up a statue of the tenured teaching assistant.
like Santa...aint no such thing.
How about, if they do not do their jobs, they are expelled and failed?
And no tuition waivers so they get billed for their current semester.
It's UNC-Chapel Hill, the sort of place where student activists can vandalize problematic displays with impunity. The administration is going to fold like a Chinese laundry.
yeah, no way the professors are going to do menial crap like grade papers!
It's a strike. I disagree with teachers striking in general, but it's not exactly an unprecedented phenomenon.
and they should be terminated for not doing their job and expelled for their malicious interference in the education of others. It's not a strike over working conditions or pay, it's a strike about random other garbage in the community at large.
Please point to the area on the doll where Silent Sam touched you.
So they've actually done something AGAINST the children (well, young adults)...and over a statue? And these people call themselves leftists? Have they totally lost their feelz?
I'm guessing most of these TA's aren't from the Business school or Engineering but the Grievance studies fields
I hope they all lose their stipends
Sounds like some teaching assistants that need to be looking for new work very soon.
Note: They have every right to express their opinions about the statue and even to join in boycotts like this. But they also need to take complete and personal responsibility for the consequences of their actions. And when that includes violating the contract between their employer and the students they were assigned to teach, well, employers are entitled to take a dim view of people who cost them money by triggering sure-loser lawsuits.
Their civil-rights-movement LARPING is hurting real people.
RICO the TAs.
"Nice little scholarship you got there. Be a shame if something happened to, like your grades to stay qualified didn't get posted."

I hope that teachers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will take graduate classes, and the school will abandon plans to return the statue of a Confederate soldier to campus. I also hope that it will be possible to write about this news on Facebook, to support students and teachers who helped develop essaymama during the session.
