Brickbat: Now Cut That Out
Police in Visalia, Calif., arrested Margaret Gieszinger, a teacher at University Preparatory High School, for suspicion of corporal injury to a child after she cut the hair of one boy in class. Video shows Gieszinger apparently cutting the boys hair and tossing it away and chasing students around a classroom while holding a pair of scissors and singing "The Star-Spangled Banner." One student told a local TV station this wasn't the first time Gieszinger has had a "freak out" at school.

Don’t worry kids. Your teacher will be cleared of all allegations and back to school with back pay in no time.
I don’t know about that. Running with scissors is something even teachers unions cannot forgive.
Depends on whether the Cosmetology Board wants her head for cutting hair without a license.
There is no verifiable evidence that she ran with the scissors.
She is just batshit crazy, which is OK for progressive teachers.
They will probably bust the kid that took the video for not getting her consent.
Too true!
Running with scissors while singing a song that’s just a nasty paean to war at the same time.
Better nip that man bun in the bud.
^ I am going to find a reason to use that at some point in the day [especially given my fetish for alliteration]
Good luck.
Corporal injury to a child? She cut the kid’s hair – did she nick his ear or something? Fire her for being a psycho, sure, but arrested?
Semi-permanently altering a child’s appearance without parental consent sounds like an injury to the corpus of the child to me.
” injury to the corpus of the child”
I don’t think a charge of desecrating a corpse would apply to a living child 🙂
Why?
The ‘child’ has agency to kill the unborn, and to change the appearance of its sex without parental consent.
Why should a haircut require approval?
Parents are just the revenue generation device of a child in the state’s custody.
Sounds like promotion of some silly video game.
If she actually suffers any punishment, it will be for singing the Star Spangled Banner without first issuing a trigger warning – – – –
The teacher sounds mentally ill, but I don’t see how cutting hair qualifies as bodily injury.
In California, I imagine more people were more concerned about her singing that offensive song! I don’t know why they would prosecute her for cutting a boy’s hair. Boys aren’t even entitled to due process.
Don’t lefties favor female “circumcision” now?
“Don’t lefties favor female “circumcision” now?”
No, silly, they just don’t like people calling attention to that topic because it is unfair to Muslims.
We’re talking Visalia, not Berkeley. It’s a significant number of miles to the east of Interstate 5, the demarcation line between nuttiness and normality. It might as well be in a different state than Berkeley.
Some clarifications that the blurb glosses over. This is a public school, but it’s a school located on the grounds of a junior college. (My guess is that it’s a kind of charter school). It was not a small child as the picture implied, but an adult high school student.
The fault is not that of the school most likely, but an individual who went colloquially nuts. I’m guessing some psychiatric help is in order.
Well that is a horse of a whole different color; I cannot imagine they can exclude persons with mental…what can we call it, “specialness?” That would be both ableist and contrary to diversity in the truest sense of the word.
As a banner on the streets of Ann Arbor proclaimed a few years ago, “The Mentally Ill Enhance Our Lives”
Of course they listed Abraham Lincoln as an example since he was supposedly given to melancholy [for leading a civil war and being saddled to an abject nut for a wife, I imagine]
Guilt over suspending habeas corpus, and authorizing total war against a civilian population?
Obviously no one bothered to look at the video. The male was smiling and seated before his class, relaxed. The teacher was playfully theatric and it looked to be in fun, and the teacher only cut a few strands of hair. It may violate some school decorum, but it is clearly no crime.
