In 2016, Arshid Hussain was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in a grooming gang that sexually abused more than 50 girls in Rotherham, England. The Rotherham Council recently contacted Hussain offering to keep him involved in the life of a child he fathered with one of the girls he assaulted. "We're constantly being re-victimized and as a rape victim I'm constantly told 'well actually, he's got his human rights,'" said Sammy Woodhouse, the mother of the child. "What about my human rights? "

Maryland, where Arvin Vohra holds appointed office, recently passed a bill allowing the courts to terminate the parental rights of a rapist. The other states that did not allow the court to terminate the parental rights of rapists are New Mexico, Wyoming, North Dakota, Minnesota, Mississippi and Alabama. Given the courts poor track record when it comes to correctly ruling on rape cases, I'm not sure we should allow it to terminate parental rights on rape grounds.

I would hope that the court took into consideration exactly who the rape victim was. Was it the mother of the child, or someone else? Should a man be refused access to his children (not begotten by rape) for raping a different woman?
