Leaders of London, England's Metropolitan Police have warned they may tell officers to stop trying to arrest resisting suspects unless they start getting support from the public. The remarks came after several incidents of officers being assaulted while people filmed the confrontations but did not intervene. "We don't come to work to get assaulted, and if we're not going to be backed up in what we're doing then what is the point?" said Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation.

Meh, sound more like the drug dealers at the off-Broadway drug den. Paterson police try not to kill anyone, and they had a policy of not going near the drug den if they could avoid it. This is called “community policing”, and statistics show that it greatly reduces reported crime.

They seem to be dimly grasping the issue – if people don’t support what you’re doing, maybe you should stop doing it. But I’d suggest looking a little closer into the problem, maybe investigate what exactly it is the people don’t approve of your doing.

Yep, most of the teachers at that Brooklyn school where I used to teach felt the same way. They figured that if the kids didn’t feel like doing their homework, it’s because their previous teachers failed to adequately prepare them for that grade or the standardized test is racist and the kids have a right to rebel. When the system reaches a certain point on the road to serfdom, a work slowdown is the moral thing to do.
