Health Insurance Deductibles Up 212 Percent Since 2008: Reason Roundup
Plus: Kavanaugh confirmation is official and child care tax credits backfire.

A new report on employer-sponsored health insurance plans find that over the past decade, deductibles for these plans have risen 212 percent, from an average of $303 per year in 2008 to an average of $1,350 now.
Health insurance deductibles have increased "eight times faster than wage growth" in the U.S. and "12 times faster than inflation," Vox's Sarah Kliff points out. "What this means is that…there is a growing number of Americans who have to spend more than $1,000 on medical bills before their health insurance coverage kicks in."
"Over the same time period that we've seen deductibles skyrocketing, we've also seen support for a national health care plan slowly rising," writes Kliff. "To me, that doesn't seem to be a coincidence."
But apparently it is just a coincidence—or at least an element not worth mentioning—that this huge increase in health insurance deductibles has coincided with a huge increase in federal involvement in the health insurance marketplace. Nowhere does the Vox article so much as mention the Affordable Care Act and the role it might have played in rising costs. Instead it presents the rise as some sort of untraceable mystery—and one that points to the need for greater government management of health care.
The data here come from the Kaiser Family Foundation, which surveyed 2,160 non-federal public and private companies. Since 2013, "the average annual deductible among all covered workers has increased 53%," its report states. "Forty-two percent of covered workers in small firms and 20% of covered workers in large firms are in a plan with a deductible of at least $2,000 for single coverage."
Premiums for employer-provided health plans are also up. The average in 2018 was $19,616 for family coverage, up five percent from the year before, and $6,896 for individual plans, up three percent over 2017.
In the past 5 years, premiums for family coverage have risen 20 percent. They're up 55 percent since 2008. Yet these insurance premium increases actually pale in comparison to those from the first part of this century.
From 2000 to 2006, family premiums went up 78 percent while workers' wages rose just 20 percent. From 2012 through 2018, they were up 25 percent while workers' wages rose 14 percent.
"While premium growth continues to exceed increases in earnings and inflation, the differences are small compared to recent periods," notes the Kaiser report. But the same cannot be said about increases in deductibles, which have seen a much more dramatic uptick as of late.
"The average deductible for single coverage among all workers increased 53% since 2013," Kaiser reports.
Researchers also asked about what will happen in 2019, when the repeal of the Obamacare "individual mandate" penalizing people who don't have health insurance coverage will take effect. "Nine percent of small firms and 24% of large firms report that they expect fewer employees and dependents to participate in their health plans as result of the change. Additionally, 5% of small firms and 10% of large firms said that they expect to change the benefit options for at least some employees as a result of the change."

Justice Kavanaugh it is. After all the drama, Brett Kavanaugh was narrowly confirmed over the weekend as America's next new Supreme Court justice, by a 50–48 vote. The response has been a predictable mix of cruel and vulgar gloating from GOP corners and "grab your coat-hangers (and give us your money)!" hyperbole from Democrats.
And things are only primed to get so, so, so much worse post-midterms…

On Columbus Day? Racist against Italians much?
Hello.
I'm sure Palin will be around to explain to you all it had nothing to do with the ACA.
From 2000 to 2006, family premiums went up 78 percent
Hey, you Canuck moron, you know the ACA began in 2014, right?
So tell me how it is to blame for the skyrocketing premiums and deductibles in the Bush decade?
(Not Bush's fault either)
You missed this, it seems.
Price Waterhouse already published a report citing higher deductibles offset by lower premiums due to the ACA.
So, ACA didn't bend the price curve at all. Glorious to know. And MY family plan has gone up significantly since the empty suit jackass' abysmal health bill.
The ACA was pretty worthless in total but not the disaster Single Payer would have been.
Buttplugger things Trillion dollar deficits to pay for WelfareCare would solve the problem that free market healthcare solved decades ago.

Pretty sure he owns his own business or something along those lines. I've seen you post for enough years here I would have figured you would have picked up on that from the many times he's talked about it.
Yup. Own my own business. As did me paps. We've paid our 'fair share' of taxes into the system.

Update: Doxxer Jackson Cosko Who Leaked Personal Info of GOP Lawmakers Online Is Being Paid by Outside Liberal Group
Accused doxxer 27-year-old Jackson Cosko threatened to leak Republican Senators' children's health information if any witnesses dared go to the authorities about his criminal activities.
But now there are questions about his employment status. Julie Gunlock at American Greatness suggests Cosko is being paid as a fellow from an outside liberal group.
While she claims Cosko was an "unpaid intern" in her office, the Washington Post reports that Cosko was actually a "fellow." This was confirmed by Cosko's lawyer, who said his client was a "fellow" in Jackson-Lee's office and that he was being paid by an "outside institution."
What "outside institution" paid for Cosko's fellowship? Did that entity know about his illegal activities? What other fellowships does this "outside organization" pay for? What other House or Senate offices are hosting fellows paid by this organization?
How does one apply for these positions?
Asking for a friend.
You have to apply through a temp agency and then work part time on call without benefits for two years before being considered for a full time regular position.
Now he's preparing to pay his debt to society.

BOMBSHELL: audit of global warming data finds it riddled with errors
HadCRUT4 is the primary global temperature dataset used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to make its dramatic claims about "man-made global warming". It's also the dataset at the center of "ClimateGate" from 2009, managed by the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at East Anglia University.
The audit finds more than 70 areas of concern about data quality and accuracy.
But according to an analysis by Australian researcher John McLean it's far too sloppy to be taken seriously even by climate scientists, let alone a body as influential as the IPCC or by the governments of the world.
"Too sloppy even for climate scientists" is the new "Good enough for government work".
Is 'Too Sloppy For Climate Scientists' a track from 'Subtle Vulgarities' (see above)?
Yeah, it's the B-side to "Frack me long time".

I don't see people here calling for civil war. I see people here predicting civil war if the Left goes violent. There is a huge difference,.
Less so here, but I have seen it stated as closer to necessity than just inevitable even here. In the broader space I see it even more often.
The idea of the nation breaking up in someway actually doesn't bother me much. I don't actually have special belief that the Union must continue beyond all other factors. The ones I find interesting are those who are almost itching for it.
Purely anecdotal though. But thought I'd throw out that observation as well.
demanding people shun their families for not thinking like they do.
That's part of the psychologists' definition of a cult.
"What this means is that...there is a growing number of Americans who have to spend more than $1,000 on medical bills before their health insurance coverage kicks in."
Wouldn't that be nice.
Seriously, I dropped out of my $13,500 deductible family plan to join a Christian healthcare exchange with a deductible of $5k. My premiums dropped from $2,200 per month to $500 per month.
But it doesn't cover me for out of wedlock pregnancies or drug addiction. So there is that.
I was all interested until the last bit. Bitterly disappointed.
I've got the best plan my employer offers. It costs the same as the old policy that paid for stuff. If I had $500 a month in expenses, I'd reach the deductible at the end of the year.
Your rates would be even cheaper if you get into a catastophic health insurance plan and pay cash for all your family medical needs.
As it stands you could spend $6000 per year and you would be breaking even on what you are paying now.
Plus, HSA's can be pretax if made via payroll deduction. Saving taxes AND saving for family medical needs.
most of those are just grandfathered plans. The high deductible plans that are legal under Ocare are not very high deductible.
Everywhere I've looked at catastrophic I've been told you have to be 26 and under. Do you know of anyone offering those for everyone else?
Also, it'd be nice if every bank offered an HSA.
I'm over 40 and use an employer sponsored HSA.
ditto
I work for a mom & pop engineering firm. I would love it if they would at least offer me that.
Looking at heading out on my own, but that won't really solve the health insurance/hsa problem.
You can open an HSA on your own at many financial institutions.
Some HSA plans are tied to high deductible health insurance and some are not.
Literally Hitler.
Kaiser offers catastrophic plans. It says under 30 or 'hardship exemption'. Other health insurance companies offer similar plans.
My catastrophic plan was never changed when ObamaCare came out, so I didnt need a 'hardship exemption'.
These catastrophic plans offer a few doctor visits and preventive care as covered. My plan does not even have that, since I dont want the insurance to cover anything unless I have a serious medical problem. My plan ends up being cheaper because of it.
ObamaCare fucked up the whole health insurance market.
Well, Obama did promise "If you like your plan...".
Well, Obama did promise "If you like your plan...".
Except that you didn't really like it, because government knows better.
Thanks!
Also, it'd be nice if every bank offered an HSA.
It seems like very few do. I had a hard time finding one when I opened my HSA.
On the one hand, I feel like we SHOULD be paying more deductibles. The biggest problem with healthcare is that no one is price conscious. They are like Homer at the all you can eat buffet, gorging on all the food, because it's gonna cost the same no matter what.
On the other hand, I am happy to see that people are figuring out that the government couldn't fix their healthcare with all the Top Men working together.
On the third, mutant other hand, it sucks that people will take exactly the wrong lesson from this and demand single payer.
The primary reason no one is price conscious is that prices are invisible and, generally, impossible to determine up front.
Compound this with the fairly uniform pricing that exists in any given region and even knowing the price won't help because there is no price competition.
Agreed. Which is why I said we should be paying more deductibles. If we were, then we would be getting more cost conscious. Instead, 90% of the country never has to look at a price because they don't care about the price.
You can't get the price even if you wanted it. It is literally impossible, because no one knows.
I've tried and tried, and the answer I always get is "We'll find out after we bill the insurance."
If you don't have insurance and are paying cash, you will definitely be given the price up front because, unless it's a dire emergency, you will have to pay in advance. Been there.
That hasn't been my experience.
'I've tried and tried, and the answer I always get is "We'll find out after we bill the insurance."'
Same here. And deciphering the billing, always from multiple parties, pretty much requires an accounting degree and a law degree. I'm convinced that fraudulent billing is built into the system and that all parties are on board with it except the patient.
The biggest problem with healthcare is that no one is price conscious. They are like Homer at the all you can eat buffet, gorging on all the food
The second biggest problem with healthcare is that Americans are also literally like Homer gorging on all the food...
The Lefties design government health mandates to hide actual pricing of health care.
This was designed to remove market pricing and price signals from American's decision making with regard to healthcare.
All current Lefty plans relating to healthcare and health insurance is designed to knock private health insurance and health professional out of our market or drive up costs so high that government can swoop in and take over.
The Lefties design government health mandates to hide actual pricing of health care.
This was designed to remove market pricing and price signals from American's decision making with regard to healthcare.
You give them too much credit. I think it's more likely an unintended consequence.
I'm not sure that either party wants to move the needle on healthcare, especially after the last two fiascos (Obamacare and Medicare Part D).
I suspect much like the Republicans like campaigning on repealing Obamacare more than actually repealing Obamacare, the Democrats like campaigning on single-payer more than they like having to actually vote for it.
deductibles for these plans have risen 212 percent, from an average of $303 per year in 2008 to an average of $1,350 now.
........
From 2000 to 2006, family premiums went up 78 percent
Obamacare's fault - even though it only began in 2014.
Time for the government to get completely out of heath care - starting with the most expensive program (Medicare).
I thought the benefits began a few years earlier. You know, the old "Get the 'good' stuff upfront and then nail people on the back end" thing.
No, only a couple like kids insurance on parental plans until age 26. Taxes kicked in earlier but not most benefits.
Yeah, requiring extendes coverage and mandatory issue doesn't have mich impact at all.
But at least you're not pretending that you're opposed to welfare in your continued defense of barrycare.

And who would *those* be, exactly?
Leif Erikson and the Norsemen of course. It's much more PC because Viking raiders only slaughtered other white people.
Until they discovered America.

Mongolians
Except that the oldest human remains found in the continental U.S. may be caucasian. Hard to be sure, since (as I recall) Native activists demanded they be turned over to Native control when the possibility became public...under a new policy put in place to return control of their ancestors' remains to Native peoples.
The Politically Indian-American types REALLY don't want any inconvenient facts to muddle up their 'we have always bee here and you White Folks are invaders' narrative.
Explain, in detail, with credible cited sources, how peoples who came onto the North American continent from Asia, are "Native peoples".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beringia
They weren't, but their descendants were.
Yep, we are all native Americans. Which is why on many of the reservations they insist on being called Indians.
Then there are no native peoples except in some very small part of Africa.
"Indigenous" is a better word to use, I think. An indigenous culture is one with no cultural memory of being anywhere else. I just made that up, but I think it's a decent definition.
In any case, it's ridiculous to talk about this as if who your ancestors were, all by itself, gives you any special rights or claims to a piece of territory.
And no one thinks that Columbus literally discovered America or the New World. These arguments are always silly. Columbus's voyages, whatever you might think of them morally, are highly significant historically. That's why it gets a day to commemorate it. You don't have to think Columbus was a saint to recognize the importance of historical events.
Yeah, but if those caucasians ended up getting extinctified, they don't count.
I don't think that's an argument that should appeal to the Native American activist types. It might anyway, but it shouldn't, since the obvious answer to them then would be "Well, we screwed up by not exterminating you, so let's fix that."

I'm old enough to remember the hysterical certainty of the coming ice age predictions of the 1970's. Some "scientists" insisted that by the year 2000 most of North America would be frozen tundra. I guess I missed it.
And the irony is that there is some real evidence that that cooling regime may be happening now. Probably not extreme enough to start a new ice age, but a big Solar Minimum that may stretch to 2050.
Is that the 2040 tragedy? Hot/cold/hot/cold. It's Climate Malaria!!
Have you ever visited Minnesota?
Isn't most of North America already frozen tundra (and mountains, and prairies) at least part of the year?

On the other hand, the tragedies may never come at all.
Are you sounding the alarm for *that* tragedy?

The CD 'chart of the century' makes the rounds at the Federal Reserve
Based on yesterday's BLS report for CPI price data through June, I've updated the chart with prices for the first six months of this year. During the period from January 1997 to June 2018, the CPI for All Items increased by 57.4% and the chart displays the relative price increases over that time period for 15 selected consumer goods and services, and for average hourly earnings (wages). Seven of those goods and services have increased more than average inflation, led by hospital services (+216%), college textbooks (+204%) and college tuition (+191%). Average wages have also increased more than average inflation since January 1997, by 84%, indicating an increase in real wages over the last several decades.

Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on unaffordable daycare.
Make more money available for X, and the cost of X goes up. If I said Ford would increase the price of its cars $10K if the government gave everyone $10K to spend on cars, everyone thinks since Ford is a Capitalist Oppressor that is obviously true. You are crazy and evil if you think every other provider would act the same way.
Although if I'm reading this correctly the correct comparison would be if Ford increased the price by $5k
Still a market distortion but not really seeing how this would make child care less affordable - if half the tax credit is going to increased child care costs, that still means they are up the other half.
It's probably an issue where the poorest folk don't make enough money to take advantage of the tax credit anyway. Just a guess, didn't read any of this at all.
Look who pops up when we start talking cars.
I'm the best at what I do. And what I do is super erotic.
Nowhere does the Vox article so much as mention the Affordable Care Act and the role it might have played in rising costs.
Friggin' Trump.
Health Insurance Deductibles Up 212 Percent Since 2008
Go back to paying cash for minor medical needs and have catastrophic health insurance for heart attacks, cancer, etc.
This would effectively end ObamaCare, most wasteful health insurance with high costs, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Right on.
If Deductibles have gone up 212 percent, Premiums really should have dropped. Ha ha ha ha.
+1
While the healthcare system in general would benefit from some reform (not necessarily gov reform, but something in terms of price transparency and responsible utilization of a finite resource) this is the most logical route to go.
Affordable catastrophic insurance. Expand the HSA limits to allow bigger contributions. Funnel your premiums you saved on there. No better tax protected account out there that you can treat as another 401k if you don't use it.
Then seriously reduce medicare and medicaid spending, who is eligible for it; huge cuts are needed as the current level is not sustainable.
Add to that if everyone has HSAs, it gets pretty easy to provide for the most needy. The poor can get healthcare dollars deposited directly into their HSA, and use that to pay premiums.
The danger here, of course, is if the US starts trying to pay this money for the middle class. I am grudgingly willing to give some money to support the truly unfortunate. But taking money from the middle class to give right back to the middle class will cause the same price distortions that we are seeing in college tuition.
I basically have a catastrophic plan (very high deductible), and I'd be OK with that in a properly functioning health insurance market because I'm young and healthy.
The problem is that I have a catastrophic plan in a marketplace where a lot of other people have plans that cover every little thing. That makes every little thing cost more but leaves me footing the bill. It's the worst of both worlds.
Another great insight from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: It is well past time we eliminate the Electoral College, a shadow of slavery's power on America today that undermines our nation as a democratic republic.
She's exactly right. Despite all the advantages Drumpf had in 2016 ? Russian hacking, a biased media, the Comey letter ? it's important to remember Hillary Clinton still won by 3 million votes. In fact, she got more votes than any white male candidate in history. We would not be living in this nightmarish combination of Nazi Germany and The Handmaid's Tale if not for the EC.

Very good. One of your better works.
The Electoral College was put in place to make sure that a Politician who got massive numbers of votes from a few Urban areas would also have to campaing in and appeal to the rural districts.
And, low and behold, Her Shrillness campaigned to the Urban mass, antagonized the rural deplorables, and lost.
Just as she was supposed to.
Also, given the Democrat Party's long and notorious history of vote fraud, what evidence do we really have that she DID legitimately win the popular vote?
22 million uncounted illegals can't be wrong
Even funnier is that California and NY think that they can change their voting rules to allow illegals to vote and that be it.
The Constitution gives Congress the last say in how states decides who votes and who doesn't.
She got 48% of the popular vote, which isn't exactly winning.

Wow, thanks for this terrifying but important information. It seems that Russia hacking our election and installing Drumpf is not only turning the US into Nazi Germany, but also having the same effect on Canada!
Trump despises Canada and Trudeau you know.
IT COULD BE GO TIME!
I don't mind he despises Trudeau. Many of us do.
From NRO
The conventional wisdom is that it is President Trump who is in political peril, with his approval rating stuck around 45 percent and with Special Counsel Robert Mueller nipping at his heels in the ongoing Russia investigation. But Trudeau's approval rating in the latest National Campaign Research Poll is down to 39 percent. His Liberal party trails the opposition Conservative party, led by Andrew Scheer, by 39 percent to 37 percent, with the next election due to be held no later than October 2019.
A poll by the research firm Ipsos last month found that a majority of Canadians, 52 percent, said they were ready for a leader who would "break the rules" or otherwise represent an anti-establishment viewpoint.
For Trudeau's Liberals, that's a warning flare. Indeed, Liberals have seen their support collapse in three consecutive provincial elections since June. In Ontario, New Brunswick, and Quebec, which together represent 65 percent of Canada's population, Liberal governments suffered disastrous defeats.
I think that's pretty accurate. That's why lefties like The Star and the CBC are going with the 'right-wing extremists are dangerous' narrative. A storm is brewing in Canada. With the election of the CAQ and now Bernier's People's Party, the Liberals are in trouble.
Warmonger buttplug.
Drumpf despises all legitimate world leaders and only likes tyrants such as Putin, so that's not surprising. But here's the key sentence:
Of course I already knew Putin's Puppet has emboldened white nationalists in the US. But until now I wasn't aware he was also emboldening the Canadian alt-right. I guess it shouldn't be surprising though. Despite how wonderful Canada is, it definitely has its share of dangerous extremists like Lauren Southern.
Trump despises the Western Liberal Establishment, and has many good reasons to do so. He plays nice with the likes of Putin and Kim-boy because he wants something from them. Note that he doesn't appease ( or at least appeases less then the Liberal Ineffectual Left), he just talks nice.
As for the oft-repeated charge that he is starting a 'trade war'; it seems to me that he is acknowledging a trade war that already exists, and proposes to fight back.
Lefties like Buttplugger think Trump hates average Canadians, when Trump really is against Socialists who are running Canada.
Nobody is buying your lies anymore Buttplugger.
Pretty much that. He has a lot of fans up here.
presents new challenge for Canadian law enforcement agencies
And unsurprisingly, the challenge is not about actual criminal activity, but instead it's about "hate" and a different political philosophy.
Good job, Canada! Way to fight "Fascism" with an actual authoritarian state!
Additionally, 5% of small firms and 10% of large firms said that they expect to change the benefit options for at least some employees as a result of the change.
Perhaps now that they can employers will go back to offering lesser benefit packages that everyone could afford.

This year's Nobel Prize winners in economics have been announced.
Meh. Stay tuned for the million-dollar prize to be awarded for proving the Riemann hypothesis.

Let's just pause for a moment and gape at the fact that China kidnapped the president of Interpol.
Overstayed his visa?
He's Chinese, so probably not.
He's being "detained" and "investigated". Not sure if that is the same as arrested, but I don't think it rises to "kidnapping" yet.
Its not called kidnapping in Communist nations.
It's not called kidnapping in America either. 1000's of people are detained or arrested in America every day.
"It's not called kidnapping in America either."
Pretty sure I saw that term used here when it was regarding juveniles present in the country illegally.

When will you learn? Conservatives/Repubs. are just as bad!
"..The response has been a predictable mix of cruel and vulgar gloating from GOP corners and "grab your coat-hangers (and give us your money)!" hyperbole from Democrats."
Maybe. But it's interesting how it's Republicans that are always held to a higher standard. The second they go off on people we get the standard, 'a-ha! Just as bad! See?!'
It's like doctor files on Elaine on Seinfeld. Even a mild and justified defense mounted by her was seen as aggressive.
Slightly OT, but once again for the record, I want to proclaim unequivocally that
Christine Blase' Ford is a 100% liar. Most of the Senators fluffing her know it too.
Of course they know it.
You can spot that toupee from 1.2 miles away.
I'm thankful for your omniscience.
I'm a giver.
Dr. Ford passed a lie detector test and asked for an FBI investigation. That's literally the opposite of what people do when they're lying.
#BelieveWomen
Awesome.
Time for her to take her rightful place as a footnote to history.
Dr. Ford took a polygraph test that, by what I've read, was unusually unfocused. She is said to have coached somebody on how to beat such a test, and in any case the Polygraph is so unreliable that it's results are not admissable in American courts...which allow evidence of drug-sniffing dogs (which are notoriously bogus). Moreover, she declines to release the polygraph record or her therapist's note, when her testimony rests on both.
She lied about being afraid to fly. Her account is not back up by people she claims were present. She scrubbed her Left-activist presence on social media before coming forward with her story.
If she isn't a liar, she has gone to some lengths to look like one.
It was clear multiple liars would present themselves when Kavanaugh sailed through regular confirmation hearings and a vote was imminent.
If someone had a credible person who had a credible claim, it would have come out before a last minute Hail Mary.
This.
The details lie in the timing.

""Over the same time period that we've seen deductibles skyrocketing, we've also seen support for a national health care plan slowly rising," writes Kliff."

Women's March: Kavanaugh Doesn't Have To Be Guilty, Just 'Capable' Of Sexual Assault
Then we are all truly guilty.
Vox's Sarah Kliff points out. "What this means is that...there is a growing number of Americans who have to spend more than $1,000 on medical bills before their health insurance coverage kicks in."
What that shows is that Vox's Sarah Kliff is an idiot incapable of rational thought or basic research.
Health insurance 'kicks in' and covers major portions of office visits, drugs, hospital stays, diagnostic testing and lots of other goodies before anything gets applied against "the deductible".
For my plan, an HMO, I have only paid $350.00 towards my deductible, yet the plan has already paid over $6,000 in benefits. (premiums not considered)

"Everyone's favorite libertarian economist, Tyler Cowen"
Uh.. wut? As someone who reads his blog regularly, "libertarian" is not how I would describe him. If he's considered a "libertarian" economist then we libertarians should give up. He's constantly supporting technocratic solutions. Constantly.

"I'm talking about men. Your husband, perhaps, or your brother or son.
It's a "very scary time for young men" in America, Trump said at a rally last week. "My whole life I've heard you're innocent until proven guilty, but now you're guilty until proven innocent. That is a very, very difficult standard."

But... but... They said we needed Obamacare to stop the rising costs of healthcare.
Imagine how expensive it would be without the smartest President in the history of the world.
Just a friendly reminder to everyone that Trump was elected as the President of the United States. Kavanaugh was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice and Team blue still hasn't figured out they live in a bunch of echo chambers.
Orange Hitler was installed by Russian hacking (and Clinton still won by 3 million votes). But you'll know the meaning of the term "echo chamber" when you're shocked as Democrats win the House and Senate next month.
#BlueTsunami
By the way, when Trump wins 2020 primarily due to the huge swing in Black voting, I am claiming now, way in advance, that I coined the term: Black Wave.
Assuming Mueller fails to kick him out of office in 2019 or 2020, what percentage of the black vote would you expect him to get against Kamala Harris or Corey Booker? I can't see anything higher than 5%.
The blacker his opponent, the more he'll get.
Pretty sure Booker comes from Sparta.
>>> Kamala Harris or Corey Booker?
they black?
Cracker, pleeease.
perspective. may be less obvious if they're standing on Rosecrans
Nothing confirms my biases like predicting that they will be confirmed in future elections. It has the added benefit of making me feel smart.
Explains why you've been doing it non-stop for months.
FWIW, 538 is now giving the Republicans a 1 in 4 chance of keeping control of the House, this week. Last week, before Kavanaugh was confirmed, the Republicans were only getting a 1 in 5 chance of keeping the House.
They're forecasting that the Republicans have a 50% chance of gaining a seat in the senate, and the most likely outcome by far is that the Republicans maintain control of the senate.
If Avenetti is the fashionable scapegoat in lefty circles to blame for Kavanaugh's confirmation, can they blame anybody but Dianne Feinstein for not taking the senate? She's running against another Democrat to keep her seat, too. It's not as if going after her will hurt their chances of having another Democrat in the senate from California.
Feinstein has violated so many principles for so many years, not just lately but going back to the rubber stamping of Bush era policies, I'd love to see her pay with her seat. Her challenger may be as bad as she is on policy, but there's something to seeing bad politicians pay for their misbehavior with their seats--makes me feel like Carmelita Spats when she sniffs cake.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4gFVfXcL-c
She's China's gal.
Her position is safe
Something should happen to Feinstein regardless. She has shown tremendously immoral action. And this Ford issue is obvious moral failing that is admitted openly by her.
Either Ford was believable, and thus sitting on the claim for that long was an immoral prevention of justice. Or the story was not and there is no explanation of her behavior other than pure politics. Regardless of anything about Kavanaugh, Feinstein needs a reckoning.
I never believed Blasey Ford's accusations. But anyone who did, and yet sat on them for weeks, needs to pay a price.
So I take it that means we're living in The Handmaid's Tale now, right? In that case, how much for the women?
Wasn't The Handmaid's Tale written in reaction to election of Ronald Reagan with the support of the religious right?
We've been living under imminent threat of The Handmaid's Tale since Reagan; you just don't realize it because you're part of the patriarchy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EdGUEbnlvQ
A lot of the best stuff from the 80s was written about Reagan. You didn't have to agree with it to enjoy it back then, but that's because the honest liberal wasn't yet extinct.
The author has said that Handmaid's Tale was inspired by the oppression of the East German people and the plight of women living under conservative Islam.
Still a shitty book.
212%? Who did that math? (New - Old) / Old is the way to calculate the % change. (1350 - 303) / 303 is 346%.

Chicken Little 2: The Sky is on Fire.
Nowhere does the Vox article so much as mention the Affordable Care Act and the role it might have played in rising costs. Instead it presents the rise as some sort of untraceable mystery?and one that points to the need for greater government management of health care.
Vox is a joke news source. Like the Onion.
Everyone's favorite libertarian economist, Tyler Cowen...
Umm, that would be Russ Roberts.
Maybe followed by Mike Munger. Cowen is too ten, though.
My deductible is $3000. It would be $7000 if my wife was also on the plan.
I would like to know how the rate of increase under Obamacare compares to the rate of increase before. If they are comparable then you'd need to do more work to pin this on Obamacare. If they started going up faster under Obamacare, then you'd have the beginnings of an argument for causality.
Hmm, with his first clerks...Kavanaugh has as many African-American clerks as RBG in her entire term
Dem spin: He's got jungle fever.
Has he raped all of the yet, or just some of them?
Both conservative and liberal and libertarian health care policy wonks favor higher deductibles. They are intended by all, but unpopular with many in the public. You cannot judge it without looking at premia as well.
Both three or all three?
"You cannot judge it without looking at premia as well."
Even with that you also cannot judge it without some knowledge of just what is being consumed by the beneficiaries, and how much is actually being spent by both the insurer and the insured.
Any kind of public health care system has some kind of cost sharing certainly all the continental European plans and Asian plans, so I don't understand Kliff's point, or at least the article doesn't do anything to explain facts or put things into context.
If it is paying for routine expenses it's not really insurance.
Rising deductible expenditures are a sign that people are becoming aware of what they are consuming. It is the first step towards making them better healthcare consumers.
I told you this would happen at the time, but people act like it's such a surprise. Morons, all of them.
I agree!!! You can discuss with other side. That's how you learn and expand your view points.
