Tennessee Congressional Candidate Builds Literal Wall in Cringeworthy Campaign Ad
Jason Emert really wants people to know he supports Donald Trump.

A Republican congressional candidate in Tennessee is so eager to prove he supports Donald Trump's immigration policies that he released a campaign ad where he literally builds a brick wall.
"It all starts with a good foundation. If your foundation is solid, it'll take care of itself for many years to come," Jason Emert says at the start of his 30-second ad, appropriately titled Brick By Brick, in which he puts mortar on bricks and lays them on top of each other.
When Emert's wife Lauren asks if he's "really going to help President Trump build the wall," he responds, "you bet I am."
Emert is one of seven candidates seeking the GOP nomination in Tennessee's Second Congressional District. Incumbent Rep. John Duncan (R–Tenn.) has held the seat for nearly 30 years, but he is retiring at the end of his term.
Emert's video parodies an insurance ad starring former University of Tennessee football coach Butch Jones, who was fired last year. "Unlike Butch Jones, when I say I'm going to do something, I actually mean it," Emert says. Both ads feature men in orange polo shirts building brick walls, along with similar wording and the use of the phrase "brick by brick."
But Emert's ad is more literal-minded than its model. The candidate wants a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, even though such a wall would cost taxpayers tens of billions of dollars to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

There is no problem with people and contraband coming over the Mexican border? Really? That will come as a hell of a surprise to the people who actually live on the border
http://www.judicialwatch.org/b.....s-worsens/
If reason's position on immigration is so compelling, why do they always have to be lying sacks of shit when promoting it? Isn't telling the truth enough?
End the Drug War and the War On Business Hiring Practices, and the "problem" disappears.
Okay. I doubt that would solve the problem but it wouldn't hurt. But that doesn't change the fact that there is a huge problem at the border. Denying it doesn't help.
The only problem is that its nearly impossible to work here legally. Oh, and drugs are illegal.
Change both of those and yes, the problem just goes away.
You don't see Corona smuggling beer into the country. You don't see beer smugglers looking for extra money on their routes by smuggling in people.
I just love the "if they would only come her 'legally' crowd".
As if there were some way for any of them to come here "legally."
People saying this have absolutely no idea what is involved in legal immigration to the USA.
Furthermore, they have no idea that traditionally, Mexicans wanting to come to the USA to work have absolutely no desire to to stay here or to get citizenship or to sponge of the welfare system (Mexico already has an extensive welfare system that is in most respects more generous than that in the USA).
Most Mexicans simply want to come here for a few years (preferably on and off withe visits back "home"; which have been made pretty much impossible with each progressive border tightening).
One of my friends was living this way - came across for 6 months, worked, went home to Sinaloa. For 15 years. At least until he met a chick here and now is married to here so he's working on citizenship.
So yeah, the marriage deal with reduce the time it takes for him to become "legal from ten to twelve years to three to five.
Most Mexicans who come over want to start making the American dollars now, they don't want to wait ten years. Before LBJ fucked up the immigration system most of them hoped to be living back in Mexico before ten years were up,
One dude's assertion about one part of the border. That's convincing!
Texas border towns are among the safest in the state.
San Diego is the safest big city in the country.
Ill thought out enforcement has pushed crossings into the deserts. Fixing that, and working to improve Central America and Mexico will make the border even safer. Walls and enforcement will move things around.
"...working to improve Central America and Mexico will make the border even safer."
Get out YOUR wallet.
Not mine.
How about we end the welfare state - and then nobody needs to get into anyone's wallet?
You got my vote. Are you running in CA?
Nah man - I've already made it over the border and into Arizona. Don't need to run no more.
BTW,I tend toward the 'open borders' side of the argument, but that does not include fixing the governments of Central America.
While I am of the same bent, I do believe that we have a responsibility to not fuck them up also - which we've done. Massively. With the WoD.
Mexico, until post 2000, was just a shithole at worst. The USG has been pushing and prodding the Mexican government to 'do something' about illegal drug smuggling and finally got behind PAN which ousted PRI (the, until 2000, dominate political party in Mx and who basically had a detente with the existing cartel power structure - everyone was focused on making money not war). Once that happened, PAN made good on their promises and started a war with the cartels and did a decent amount of damage. Enough to destroy the existing, stable, power structure and turn the country into a hellhole.
Basically the same thing we've done in Iraq and Libya.
Mexico is a failed state because we fucked it up. Not that it would have been a paradise otherwise, but we pushed them into the shit.

Not too far off the mark. It's worth repeating twice.
Are you a drug warrior now? Do you think its and important duty that people bringing in papitas from Mexico pay the USG's gelt? Or is it just 'sure, all this stuff is illegal because a politically powerful minority wishes to use its power to dominate and control but *the law's the law*, damnit! and must be obeyed'
Following the link you provided, I was not convinced that ranchers in southern Arizona are in any great danger because of illegal border crossing. Trespassing is a violation of the ranchers' rights, but does the damage done justify a massive outpouring of government resources? Let the solution be proportional to the problem. It's already to the point where you cannot drive down any road or highway without seeing a large, gas-guzzling border patrol SUV. How many more of them and their highly-paid, but under-employed civil service occupants will be necessary to satisfy the ranchers and other border absolutists? I've never heard of any ranchers killed by Mexican smuggling cartels. What I have seen is local politicians trying to give voters the impression their lives are in danger from cartel smugglers in order to garner votes (they didn't succeed, by the way). As other posters have pointed out, the situation is mainly owing to the War on Drugs + inability to formulate and implement a bracero program like we've had in the past.
Wait . . . you're not saying judicialwatch.org is not a reliable source are you?
Oh, that website? That's the one you posted a link to a while back about the people who were, literally, kidnapped and held at gunpoint in their own homes and the police did nothing. The article talked about someone who was forced, at gunpoint, to drive someon's pregnant wife to the hospital. None of that passed the smell test then and this article is no different.
Guy's claiming that smugglers are *ramping* vehicles through the border wall like Dukes of Peligro? Yeah, they're driving off-road vehicles out to the fence, setting up ramps, and jumping through. Oh, and the article has lots of pictures of an old guy in a cowboy hat near a fence but none of the large number of enormous holes that the illegals have cut/smashed cars through? Couldn't even find one?
That wall looks like shit. He's got huge gaps in the mortar, just like his philosophy.
No kidding.
OTOH - its a perfect metaphor. Someone who doesn't know what he's talking about assuring everyone he knows just what needs to be done - and then fucking it up completely once in motion.
Reason is in the amen corner of the proggie's open borders tent revival.
It will be funny when Libertarianism is firmly free market, Rule of Law under the Constitution, property rights, secure border. People like Gillespie and Welch will flock to their beloved Democrats to make sure the borders stay open.
They are not fooling anyone.
Free market with closed borders. K.
And the rule of law is a myth.
It'll be funny when Libertarians are just like Republicans?
The constitution is a glorious thing. Free market, rule of law, and property rights.
I can understand why men get so excited about the anti-immigrant hysteria. Endless opportunities for violence and mischief. But what I don't get is why the women seem just as enthused. What do they get out of it? It's not like there are troves of gold and silver jewelry to plunder. And what do you need a late model pickup truck for and would you even want it sitting in your driveway?
We Americans just want our borders somewhat secure and immigrants to respect our immigration laws.
We Americans just want our borders
Definitely not a collectivist.
Americans are certainly not despised by sociliast for pur non-collective individualism under a common goal.
We're Americans not Americants.
Butch Jones was a national treasure as the Vols coach. Everything he said was memeworthy. "Champions of life" was my favorite quote. Now I'm just reminded of how much I miss college football season.
I had no idea who the Tennessee coach was, let alone that they had had the same one for that long until 2017. They really fell off the national map, didn't they?
Yes they did, and it's been hilarious if you paid attention to it at all. Jones got fired near the end of last season, but his last two years there were an absolute train wreck and seemingly every week he would say something incredibly stupid that demonstrated how completely out-of-touch he was with the situation. They ended up hiring Alabama's defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt to replace him. We'll see how that goes for them. Hiring a Bama DC worked out really well for Georgia so it seems UT is trying to replicate that.
The coaching search to find Jones replacement was the real train wreck. I felt bad for A.D. John Currie. Although he obviously made some poor decisions during the search, it seemed like he faced some backstabbing and sabotage. I'm in the minority of K-State fans who liked Currie when he was athletic director in Manhattan. Kansas State is one of the few schools that is fully self-funded and doesn't receive anything from the University general fund or student fees, primarily because of Currie.
The coaching search was the icing on the cake of the clown show that has been Tennessee football recently.
How is K-State looking for next year? I don't follow the Big 12 too closely aside from Oklahoma and Texas - not because they're the most prestigious programs and I don't care about the other schools, more because OU was a playoff team last year so I'm more familiar with them than most teams as a result, and my team (USC) played Texas last year and will again this year so I've been following them more closely than I would otherwise.
I'm expecting good things, but media outlets have fairly low (middle of the pack) expectations for us. That seems to be when Snyder's teams excel the most, though. Brand new offensive and defensive coordinators, so we'll see.
Trojans and Longhorns put on a hell of a show last year. Here's hoping for another good matchup.
I don't know if my heart can take another game like last year's that ending was nuts (I was in the crowd).
Yeah K-State always seems to have their best years when least expected. Is Snyder retiring after this year? I recall reading something about him trying to set up his son as his successor in spite of the fact that most fans don't think he's capable, is that accurate?
It's anybody's guess as to when he'll retire. Hopefully his wizardry keeps him alive and on the sideline for another decade or so.
Yeah, it's a big point of contention among fans that Bill wants Sean to take over. It's clear-cut nepotism, but I also hate to question the judgement of the architect of the greatest turnaround in college football history.
I asked my brother in law in Tennessee, and he guarantees me that this dude will get a 3-5 point bump just for trashing Jones, and with his brick wall comedy he will probably win in a landslide.
People act like this politician building a brick wall is anymore ridiculous a gimmick than Hillary standing with some immigrant named Khizr Khan or Obama's gimmicks.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....b2b5d16d6b
The woman came across the border in 2013, making her 15 at the time. She was one of Obama's dreamers. I imagine Dalmia read this story in the Post this morning and is still fuming because the monsters plan to deport her. And MS 13 is just a myth. This woman made America safer. Steve Chapman actually believes that.
http://reason.com/archives/201.....e-us-safer
So now we can't tell the difference between individual anecdotes and aggregate level statistics? Chapman was arguing based on the latter. You are arguing based on the former. Former is typically what people point to when the data does not actually support their argument.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Leroy_Lane
This guy crossed the border in 1964 and no one seems to care.
I'll donate a brick or two.
This guy gets a donation. Stat!
GOP: the party of ideas that 3 year-olds have.
Crappy wall he built. Next time hire Mexicans.
Brian Kemp says hold my beer.
Now *that's* a campaign commercial.
Keep in mind that's a campaign commercial from a guy who's currently Georgia's Secretary of State and a State Senator before that, talking big about what a shit-kicker he's gonna be if we elect him - and not one damn word about what he's been doing for the last 12 years when we did elect him.
Also keep in mind that as Georgia Secretary of State, Kemp oversees the 41 Occupational Licensing Boards in Georgia, including the Interior Design, Lactation Consultant, Librarian and Musical Therapist licensing. Maybe his chainsaw was in the shop the last six years.
Hey, I don't get to vote for him so nothing I can do about any of that. OTOH, I can admire a fascists *with style*. I don't like *what* he says, but I enjoy *how* he says it.
Democrats in the Georgia Legislature love them some regulation.
Kemp is tasked with enforcing state law relating to occupational licensing.
Kemp is short on specifics but his campaigns says, "Eliminate wasteful programs, tax incentives, bureaucracy"
Brian Kemp for GA Governor
Seemed like he was overplaying that yokel accent.
Not for most of America. Mos of Maerica is sick of lying politicians, LINOs, RINOs, and lefties.
Do you know where Emert stands on other issues, or is this the only issue that matters?
Yeah, what about *gulp!* ABORTION?
If it saves a single American life, it's more than worth it.
Translation: Money is no object as long as we're talking about somebody else's money.
That's about all you need to know about where Mr. Emert stands. Anybody who says "if it saves just one life..." about anything should be beaten vigorously. There's no shame in being a moron, but it's nothing to be bragging about either.
He's not a career politician, he's an absolutist on the 2nd, he advocates a strong military wiping ISIS off the face of the Earth, he's strongly pro-life, he hates liberals and swamp creatures, he loves God and America and the Flag and Donald Trump. Bog-standard bandwagon rhetoric.
I'm trying to think of a non-cringeworthy political ad in the last... I'll be conservative-- 25 years.
Still not as cringe-worthy as the Gubernatorial candidate here in Iowa a few years back, who ran a TV ad where he shaved off his mustache. "That was th' only thing I had in common with the Governor!", he proclaimed.
Yep, he lost in a landslide.
Go big or go home.
Don't fuck with the six term Governor Terry Branstad- he'll whoop your ass at the polls without breaking a sweat. Even the Bible thumpers on the far right tried to take him out several times, and failed miserably.
Bob Ray was still better.
I never actually voted for Branstad, but I get a good laugh from Team Blue folks' bitching about him, given the kind of dumbasses their Team would come up with as challengers.
The old man knew how to keep rural Iowa happy - - ethanol. Raise corn prices to $5 a bushel and scare people about foreign oil. $35,000/acre farm land. Worked great before hydrolic fracturing was invented and now the US is the Saudi Arabia of oil, natural gas, coal... God Bless America. Stop borrowing from Peter to pay Paul in the cluster fuck they call the farm bill.
Can I just say:
Fuck you, Joe.
Take off the Shika mask.
Can I just say that I've seen some pretty shitty masonry jobs but there's no reason to advertise you're little more than a monkey shitting on a trowel. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the technique demonstrated in the video is simply shitty because it would have to improve a few orders of magnitude to reach that oh so illusive level of raw shit work.
Not that I have any opinion on the topic but as a youth who apprenticed under a master who worked almost exclusively with marble way back when in Newport, I gotta say the kinda work illustrated in the video, needs a bulldozer...
I take it back, it needs a rusted out '87 toyota pickup with something vaguely resembling a snow plow. No need to spend good money on a bulldozer.
All and all,
It's just another brick in the wall.
I'm sure he could have found an immigrant bricklayer that could have done a better job for half the price and half the time.
To be fair, your taxes are magnitudes higher to pay for border security because nonAmericans refuse to respect our rule of law and for a massive welfare state.
I want to see them build the wall right down the middle of the Rio Grande River. I really want to see how that works. What a bunch of idiots. I think there are many who don't realize the ENTIRE US / Mexican border between Texas and Mexico is a river. I'm pretty certain the landowners don't want the wall on their property, so the middle of the river will have to do. What a bunch of bull shit.
They rarely build the wall on the actual border line. Building it on the USA side allows for maintenance on both sides and prevents Mexico will interfering with border security since the wall is 100% on the US side of the border.
it also tends to cut people's property on half and has put a lot of homes in a position where they have to drive 10-20 miles to a border crossing to go to the grocery store - since they're now south of that wall.
Lesson. Dont buy land on a national border nor near a state line.
The government should buy them out but budgets are tight for non-welfare related expenditures.
better not buy it near a state or county border either.
a wall with Mexico won't solve anything by itself. if you're not for internal travel controls then you are not serious about fixing the problem.
Mexico borders other states in the USA too.
Mexico City just elected it's first female mayor, and she is Jewish. This could be interesting.
why?
Because she can get on the phone to the Rothschilds and have them fix the weather.
Duh, don't you know *anything*?
