Feds Show Up at ICE Whistleblower's CBS Interview
Former spokesperson James Schwab received a unexpected house call from federal agents after saying ICE forced him to lie about immigration raids in Oakland.

A Wednesday interview between James Schwab, the former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson-turned-whistleblower, and CBS News' Jamie Yuccas was interrupted by the arrival of federal agents. According to CBS News, which caught the visit on camera, the guests identified themselves as agents with the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General's Office and questioned Schwab about the events that ultimately led to his resignation.
Schwab resigned from his position in March after strongly disagreeing with Attorney General Jeff Sessions' media campaign against Oakland, California, Mayor Libby Schaaf. In February, Schaaf warned immigrants in her city of upcoming ICE raids. She later released a statement regarding the "law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation" and believed it to be her "duty and moral obligation as Mayor to give those families fair warning when that threat appears imminent."
The raids resulted in the arrest of 232 immigrants out of 1,000 possible targets. As Schwab explained in his CBS interview, the arrest results were actually "16 percent higher" than ICE's estimates. Despite this, Sessions claimed in March that Schaaf was personally responsible for "needlessly [endangering] the lives of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical open-borders agenda." The attorney general said the warning led to ICE's failure to make an additional 800 arrests, classifying the unarrested as "800 wanted criminals that are at large."
Schwab told Yuccas that the statement was "completely false" and said it made him "extremely uncomfortable." He once argued in March "We were never going to pick up that many people. To say that 100 percent are dangerous criminals on the street, or that those people weren't picked up because of the misguided actions of the mayor, is just wrong." When presented with opportunities to clarify, Schwab said that his Washington, D.C., higher-ups instructed him not to dispute Sessions.
"I could not fathom staying at an organization that was OK with lying to the American public. I hate that. In 17 years in the military, at the Department of Defense as a civilian, at NASA, and now at Homeland Security, I have never been asked to lie. I have never been asked to perpetuate a lie, which is the same as lying," he said, speaking of the eventual decision to resign.
As Schwab and Yuccas were conversing, two men dressed in suits knocked on the door. The men, who introduced themselves as federal agents, told Yuccas their visit was confidential. Following the visit, Schwab revealed that he was asked about Schaaf's leak. Schwab maintained that he neither met nor contacted the mayor.
Schwab said the interaction as "intimidation." He then reaffirmed his decision to speak up and empower others in the federal government facing similar dilemmas.

I wonder how future Justice AR-15 would rule on this matter
Is the whistle blower protected by federal statute or does his actions fall outside the bounds of whistle blower protections?
Difficult questions that the Supreme Court and their assault weapon colleague may have to tackle
Will yes or no be determined by whether or not the shoulder thing is up? Will it fire one bullet for affirmation and two for dissent? What if it's set to full semi automatic?
These are questions that the Senate will need to ask at AR-15's nomination hearing
Well, if it's a civilian AR-15, it won't have full automatic.
Semi automatic is when you pull the trigger, once, and the gun fires, once. Burst is on some military-only guns which can fire two or three, on a single pull of the trigger. "Full Auto" means you hold the trigger down long enough, (a scant few seconds, despite what Hollywood has conditioned you to expect, even WITH full capacity magazines,) and it empties the magazine.
Semi-automatic means it's a self-cocker and self-loader. Nothing else. It means that you don't have to pull the bolt back, or rack the slide, or pull the hammer back, or work the lever, etc, between every two shots. That's all.
Semi-automatic firearms are NOT lead water-hoses and they do NOT have infinite ammo.
Incidentally, handguns known as "automatics", such as the venerable 1911, or the popular Glock line, are semi-automatic.
*sigh*
Google 'full semi automatic' and prepare for hilarity.
Sorry. I'm fairly new to this site, and haven't learned who the jokers are. I took your statement at face value.
$parkY is worse than a joker. He's an anarchist.

See. Worse than a joker.

Fell for the troll, didn't you.
I find that a little hard to believe. Maybe he didn't knowingly lie or perpetuate a lie before, but I'm sure at some point in those 17 years he lied and/or helped to perpetuate a lie - he just didn't know it was a lie at the time. This is the federal government we're talking about here.
Remember, it's not a lie if you believe it.
"Remember, it's not a lie if you believe it."
I knew it! Unicorns are real!!!
It's kind of implied that if he did perpetuate a lie, he didn't know it was a lie right? It seems a weird criticism that he didn't say "knowingly."
You're right, I'd point out that he had no problem working for organizations with a well known track record of lying to the American public until he personally was asked to lie. Not that I blame him or anything, but it's pretty clear his issue was with this particular lie and the fact that he personally was being asked to make it.
You'd think he'd wonder how it's considered kosher to go along with the idea that States have the right to interfere in Federal enforcement activities without, y'know, being indicted for obstruction of justice or something.
Last thing, if you find me a government 'spokesperson' or 'P.R. Rep.' that hasn't knowingly and repeatedly lied and I'll give you a free unicorn.
This isn't any kind of judgement of the underlying issues, just noting that this guy is almost certainly a hypocrite.
This whole episode shows how far the the conservatives have descended in American. It's not about ideology, it purely about team membership and following the talking points. It's about shutting up and doing as you're told. Actual value based conservatism no longer exists in America.
That this attitude now extends into several main line Christian denominations is shocking. Politicians are now more important than God. Thou shalt not bear false witness unless it might embarrass Sessions.
I used to wonder if I made a mistake in abandoning the Republican Party. I no longer wonder. It's no longer the lesser of two evils, it's not which of the major parties is the vilest of two evils.
Maybe there is more to this story since the IG is investigating? Maybe not.
If Mueller gets over a year to 'investigate' nonsense, you might want to wait for a report on if this guy did something illegal and then quickly resigned.
The Mayor of Oakland violated federal law by aiding and abetting illegals inside the USA.
The Mayor of Oakland was concerned for LEGAL immigrants. I know the narrative is that there's no such thing, but that's bullshit.
The mayor did nothing of the sort. The mayor simply reported on law enforcement operations - the same way you or I can. So, unless you're going to say that reporting the locations of speed traps or DUI stops (or even highway immigration checkpoints) is illegal.
I mean - ICE should have definitely vetted the mayor better but none of these people are responsible for safeguarding this information. ICE doesn't want knowledge of their operations to get out then they need to up their OpSec practices.
Or, as another example, if the mayor of a town wanted to widely report to everyone in their jurisdiction to be aware that the DEA was investigating regarding large cocaine shipments coming in or going out of the city.
Personally, I don't really care but it's a little different than DUI stops and speed traps. Highway immigration checkpoints, however, should be unconstitutional. No probable cause basis, in my opinion.
It's sort of amazing to see the left go full-bore Confederate though.
There are still plenty of open border people working at ICE. They cannot find another job, pension considerations, or they are working the cause from the inside out.
The violation of law occurs when you aid and abet illegals into avoiding immigration officials. That is what the Mayor of Oakland did. It does not matter how many illegals that ICE was planning on picking up or how dangerous they were classified as.
They immigrant(s) is/are illegal, the plan to arrest the illegal(s) was foiled by the Mayor, and that is a violation of federal law.
Not an excuse for Session to order people to lie about it.
No one who works for ICE is open borders. The very definition of the job - even if you took it solely for customs enforcement - is closed borders.
Now, once they retire, and their paychecks are no longer dependent on it, tons of them will suddenly always been open border supporters.
Sort of how LEAP is composed of nearly nothing but *retired* LEO's.

Why would you ever talk to government agents? Except to ask "you got a warrant bitches?"
There is nothing wrong with government agents trying to talk to you to "investigate" and there is nothing wrong with you not talking to them and telling them to fuck off.
