Robert De Niro Has a Tony Tantrum Over Trump: Reason Roundup
Plus: Trump's trade-war antagonization continues, "depressing" European leaders, and Google is making salad emojis "more inclusive."

"Fuck Trump!" shouted Robert De Niro at last night's Tony Awards, pumping his fist in the air. "It's no longer 'Down with Trump, it's 'Fuck Trump.'" And with those two lines, the actor set off this week's first round of pointless culture-war posturing.
De Niro's outburst, given during his scheduled introduction of Bruce Springsteen, was greeted with loud applause from the Tony's audience and bleeped out by CBS for viewers watching along at home. But by Monday morning, the usual suspects from cable news hosts to members of Congress to JohnnyDeplorableMAGA and PatriotsPunchNazis99 on Twitter were commenting on the matter, bitterly divided over whether De Niro's words were a courageous act of truth-speaking and #Resistance or the tedious tantrum of a childish old man who mistakes cinematic moments for activism.
I can't stop thinking about that swift, incisive editorial last night. Two monosyllables. Underscoring the presidency's baseline indecency with a violation of "decency." The satire of "norms." I'd say Robert De Niro deserved a Pulitzer for if he didn't deserve a…Tony.

Sorry but "F Trump" is not a political message. https://t.co/UQYSWGx8mT

I'm not particularly offended by the substance of Robert DeNiro's profane outburst at the Tony Awards (a bit predictable, really).
I am angry that his words, and not the winners, are now the biggest headline coming out of the Tonys. Theater deserves better.
— Peter Cook (@_Peter_Cook) June 11, 2018
Let's keep in mind that Robert De Niro already did the curse Trump on a microphone at an awards show thing in January. It's sort of his thing. https://t.co/aKqoMMvsUG
— Sopan Deb (@SopanDeb) June 11, 2018
I am no foe of celebrity activism per se, nor a strict subscriber to "there's a time and a place for politics" rules. (Some things are too important for convention or civility.) And I am no fan of our current president, his administration, his aesthetic style, or his policies. "Fuck Trump" is not a sentiment I stand against on principle.
But what De Niro did last night was not productive activism, and his was absolutely the wrong time and place for it. This is not a man who has only periodic access to the televised spotlight, as in the case of, say, some NFL football players. This was not a situation where De Niro's message counteracted another prevailing message at the event in question. And it was not as if De Niro was using his massive platform to persuade, to draw attention to an overlooked issue, to advocate for anything in particular.
Instead, De Niro's self-satisfied, virtue-signaling, substance-free outburst only served to make him and other Hollywood liberals feel good about themselves, give Trump supporters fodder for their persecution fantasies, steal the spotlight from theater at an award show supposedly dedicated to honoring it, and further convince a whole lot of ordinary Americans that there is no respite from red/blue divisions. In other words, it showed that De Niro is a lot more like Donald Trump than the actor thinks.

International cooperation cannot be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks. Let's be serious and worthy of our people.—French President Emmanuel Macron's office

"Fuck Trump!" shouted Robert De Niro at last night's Tony Awards, pumping his fist in the air.
Finally, someone speaks truth to power.
Hello.
FFS, there's nothing courageous in what he did.
He knows damn well no one is going to throw him in prison for saying such things. Go do it in Cuba and curse one of the assholes running that shithole and get back to us, m'kay?
He's a selfish, virtue signalling prick. He's no Vito Corleone where wisdom is concerned!
I bet you'd be fine yelling "Fuck Trump!" in Cuba as well.
An American and Soviet are arguing about which country is freer. "I can stand outside the White House and hold up a sign that says "The American government is corrupt and the President should be in jail.", says the American. The Soviet man replies, "I can also stand in Red Square and hold up a sign that says 'The American government is corrupt and the President should be in jail.'"
That is an oldie but goodie.
Probably, an also an old joke completely unrelated to what he said. Reading no your strong suit I see.
... I think you're missing some pretty blatant sarcasm there, yo.
In a twist of irony, it was determined the 30% of the audience has already fucked one of the Trumps. So the call to action was a little late, DeNiro.
And a further 20% has let Trump grab them by the pussy.
And in hostile territory like a NYC theater awards show. Such bravery!
In other words, it showed that De Niro is a lot more like Donald Trump than the actor thinks.
Fuck Trump! Totally unfair that the greatest Actor in the world - many people have told me this because of my many, many very good Movies that have made fantastic sums of Money and billions of fans - have to suffer like no one in History under a failed loser President. Poll numbers lately, very not good, and a very Stupid person by the way. Even left the Country to avoid me. Sad!
Retweet.
Jerryskids even includes the appropriate random capitalizations. High quality effort as always!
Such an elegant and sophisticated argument against our head of government. Wow. No wonder everybody is talking about it.
So brave, too!
De Niro's outburst, given during his scheduled introduction of Bruce Springsteen, was greeted with loud applause from the Tony's audience...
Phew. His bravery paid off.
Never has a choir been so perfectly preached to.
I think of the Tonys audience as literally being the collective personification of our resident "Tony"
It's a spacetime multidimensional nexus!
There is an argument that gay people are more creative than straights. I don't buy it but I've heard it.
That is a thing I have said, many times!
If true, I suspect it's largely the overlap of two things.
First, historically, out gay people have retreated to the "gay community", where they do a lot of their socializing. As with any sub-culture, trends, fashions, memes, etc. and so-on are different from the "mainstream" culture in which the sub-culture resides.
Second, when encountering folks of a different culture, it's trivially easy to mistake someone else's "cultural norm" for "how creative!" Example: any stereotypical baby boomer white woman seeing a Mexican Day of the Dead celebration.
The Venn diagram of the two leads to a group of people being seen as more "creative" then others simply because some aspects of their culture are vibrantly different.
The real test of this hypothesis is whether or not the "creative" stereotype persists as the "gay community" continues to shrink in importance (witness: gay bars dying off and the normalization of gay pride parades).
That said, we do know that "gay brains" are different from "straight brains" in various ways (brains in jars can be useful!). Whether the impacts of these changes are limited to sexual orientation or impact other mental functions is an open question, so it's possible.
I expect it to shrink as well if more gay people start having kids/adopting/having families of some sort.
I think one traditional reason they were often seen in these situation, is they had more disposable income. All else equal, not having kids saves you a shit ton of money.
Yeah, no, that's a myth. Even today, all else being equal, a straight person is going to make more then a similarly situated gay person. As you roll back the calendar and the gap gets bigger and bigger.
In fact, I suspect it's quite the opposite. Historically, gay folk that are well off are more incentivized to stay closeted. A fancy lawyer at a big firm has much more to lose then a penniless actor who makes rent waiting tables.
You gotta remember, "creative" folks are often also "poor" folks. Sure, some make it big. But for every "star is born", many more never take off. And it's only relatively recently that big-name stars can make it big while publicly gay (as opposed to stars like Ellen who came out after making it big).
I meant even income being equal. For anyone gay or straight, not having the huge expenditure that are kids gives you time and money to do other things.
And I'm saying it's a bad "all else being equal" because the difference between "gay/straight" is/was bigger then the difference between "with/without children".
Wherever the stereotype came from, that's probably not it.
But even at that income level they will have the appearance of relative opulence, if they don't have that cost.
For instance, Man A is straight, makes 30,000 dollars a year, and has kids. Man B is gay, makes 30,000 dollars a year and has no kids. His additional free income will give the appearance of relative wealth in his income bracket. The time opened up as well will give them free time to pursue other things. Which is also where some of the creative image comes from.
Finally, an outside this original argument, struggling people often have a lot to say about their situation. It can drive certain folk to extremes. And so you could see a relative explosion of that topic. Because stereotypes are often defined more by exemplars that people know of, rather than absolute and real statistical distributions.
Thinking a second longer, I wonder how much that latter point about exemplar's is actually responsible.
If they image of a gay person that people came to know, back when it was much less common, was some hollywood elite, or some other creative type, it might just cement in people's minds that gay people are richer, or artsy, or whatever.
Here's a question. Are gay people actually over represented in the industry as a whole?
Today? I doubt it, but I don't have numbers on that one.
Historically? So long as we're restricting to folks that were out, then almost certainly not. And seeing as we're talking about the formation of stereotypes, I think that "out" part is important.
And I think that's a big thing you're ignoring. You shouldn't be trying to think about how things are now, but 30+ years ago. Your "equal income" Man A and Man B had way more differences in 1988 then they would today.
And so, this goes to an earlier question now.
Why is there a perception of wealth, artistry, and association with entertainment industries with gay people (in particularly gay men, I think)?
Your "equal income" Man A and Man B had way more differences in 1988 then they would today.
What do you mean by this?
@BestUsedCarSales
Why is there a perception of wealth, artistry, and association with entertainment industries with gay people (in particularly gay men, I think)?
First-up, I think the "wealth" perception is way more recent, and is probably due to celebrities.
As for the theatric associations, I still think that's just a consequence of the minority cultures that popped up in the big cities in the 50s/60s/70s.
What do you mean by this?
Put simply, the out gay Man B in the 80s is a lot braver, and has faced a lot more discrimination and bias, then the out gay Man B today. In the 80s there was no question if gay ghettos had a purpose, and gay bars were a focal part of the urban gay community (and the rural gay community was hidden). Today we talk about "gay gentrification" where we pull values up rather then down, and every couple of months we hear about another historical gay bar that's closing down because there's not enough business. The world they grew up in is different, the opportunities are much greater (there used to be many professions that were closed to gay folk), the fear is different. 30+ years ago, most out gay folk were concentrated in a few places. Today we're much more uniformly distributed and the "culture" between us is much weaker.
So yeah. Today the difference between Man A with kids and Man B without kids might just be that much. 30+ years ago? The differences are likely to go much deeper.
This runs counter to every stat I've ever seen on the subject, so I'ma call BS and ask you where your stats come from.
You can't just cry "myth".
@100% Satisfaction Guaranteed
Just google searched to check my memory, and yeah. There are many studies over the years showing that gay folk make less money. There is a single relatively recent one (that made a bunch of news in Dec 2017) that claims that penalty is now gone (Link), but I don't think it's improper to wait for more then a single outlier study to claim a historical trend has ended.
I appreciate that, it wasn't what I asked you for. If there are many studies, please link to them. No, I will not search google for evidence of support for your assertion.
You cried "myth" please support that assertion, as well as you can with links to reputable, repeatable studies.
Thanks in advance.
... you do know that the study I linked cites other studies on the historical gap, right?
This reminds me of when I linked to a site talked about non-discrimination laws of various sorts, and had a half-dozen folks tell me that it didn't report on X because they were unwilling to click a navigation bar.
"This reminds me"
You remind me of when I ask people to support their assertion, and they hide behind personal attacks instead.
Just post your links. You have proven the ability to do it, save the cheap shots and rhetoric and put the data up like I did.
This is incorrect. Here is an article from 2013 documenting the same information about women making more money, and gay men makng slightly less.
Here is an article that documents that gay couples earn significantly more than straight couples, that predates you so-called "outlier" study.
Your assertion that your link is a "single outlier study" is factually incorrect, as I have shown with evidence.

Your assertion that your link is a "single outlier study" is factually incorrect, as I have shown with evidence.
Again, my link is more then sufficient to direct you to whatever you want. Your unwillingness to follow sources from an academic article is not my concern.
That said, I've been talking about individuals, all your articles are about couples/households. Which for a variety of reasons, including which states legalized gay marriage, the gender wage gap, and education, skews things a lot.
And here's a final point: the main thrust of my conversation with BUCS was the origin of a stereotype. You took issue with a small part of that, and while I respect that kind of pedantry (I do it all the time myself), I'm not interested in further debating this point that's irrelevant to the actual discussion I was having (as regardless of current trends, historical trends, when the stereotypes formed, are quite different).
You can pursue further data on the economic differences between gay individuals and gay couples, as compared to straight individuals and straight couples, at your leisure, but I will no longer be part of it.
In the case of males, I think it's completely attributable to the lack of someone in their life telling them everything they do is wrong.
My first thought from this article headline was also that ENB was referencing Tony. Which would have really been weird. We thrive on being ignored down here.
Another valiant warrior of the Glorious Antifa Resistance!!!
De Niro has lost his mind.
And his ability to pick scripts that anybody has any desire to ever watch.
He might need to have some therapy.
Hey, buddy -- Analyze This!
He is too old now.
DeNiro is the greatest actor of all time. in the 70s and 80s he didn't have to pick anything because guys like Scorsese picked him.
Hey Weigel, you have a fellow "sad clown"! The two of you should get together, maybe talk about your medications and such.
So he can really only be great with the right person in charge. He's living proof that progressivism is true!
Well, yeah. A great actor can't make a shitty script into a great film.
Even Daniel Day-Lewis has been in some dogs.
What a lame remark! Of course a great actor can make a shitty script into a great film. There are innumerable movies which would have been shit with a different cast. What more proof do you need?
Speaking of dogs, have you ever watched Hannify? God, that guy is stupid. Really, really stupid.
Hollywood disagrees, It is why stars make tons and tons of money for their work. To take the mundane and make it great.
Dr Niro has done so many shitty movies over the years. Why do you think his ability to pick scripts has deteriorated in the slightest?
I am angry that his words, and not the winners, are now the biggest headline coming out of the Tonys.
Let's face it, the event would likely be getting no press at all otherwise.
Google is making its salad emoji "more inclusive" by removing the salad's egg so vegans can share it in good conscience.
The anti-egg lobby strikes yet another blow.
Let's face it. The only time anyone uses the salad emoji is when proposing analingus. The egg just made it weird for everyone.
That was the yolk!
Share it in good conscience? Because looking at the image of an egg is the same as eating one?
If words are violence and a picture is worth a thousand words...
You get the point.
... an egg in your virtual salad is like having your balls clamped in a vise.
Because looking at the image of an egg is the same as eating one?
My mom always told me she just had to look at an egg to gain 5 pounds.
So, yeah #momdontlie

It still is gibberish today.

Bill Maher is 'hoping for' an economic collapse so he can 'get rid of Trump': 'Sorry if that hurts people'
Limbaugh said something to that effect during Obama and people went KKKKRRRRAAAZZZY if memory serves me right.
Limbaugh said that he wanted Obama to fail ... so American economy would NOT be permanently transformed. Like many libertarians and conservatives, Limbaugh thought that Obama's economic, regulatory, and social policies (single-payer, card check, cash for clunckers, bank nationalization, cap-and-trade, ban on fracking, you-didn't-build-that, share-the-wealth-you-dumb-plumber, green energy cronyism, shovel-ready cronyism, etc.) would be disastrous. Fortunately, Obama was only partially successful in getting his policies implemented, so the economy was able to recover.
Maher said that he wanted the American economy to fail ... so that Trump would fail.
The two statements are entirely different.
Destroying used cars so poor people would absolutely be forced to take public transportation was one of the more obnoxious uses of tax dollars I've seen in a while.
Democracy at stake.
An economic collapse won't get you laid, Johnny.
We're due for a recession. Nine years since the last one.
Trade wars could kick one off.
Speaking of recession, remember how badly Bush sucked?
I find it hard to believe that any sane, intelligent or decent person believes that an "economic collapse" would produce any kind of improvement over Trump. I am therefore convinced that Bill Maher is none of the above.
Economic collapses produce the very opposite of good government (by almost any one's definition). At the best you get the benign fascism of FDR and the New Deal, beyond which lies Mussolini's totalitarianism (which much of FDR's "brain trust" admired). More likely are the kinds of horrors that Hitler, Stalin etc have brought upon their subject peoples.
In short, fuck you Bill Maher for your arrogance.
Instagram blocks 'offensive' eggplant emoji hashtag
A spokesman for Instagram said the eggplant emoji was made unsearchable because it was "consistently associated" with photos or videos that violate the social network's community standards.
Well, if you're gonna invoke the "consistently associated" argument you're headed for a heap of trouble.
Shhh... social media is collapsing under the weight of its own stupidity. Just let it happen, man.

So, seems like Trump still doesn't know what a trade deficit is. Or has it confused with the budget deficit or something. Seems like he thinks it's some kind of debt to be repaid.
Well it is! I mean, they take our money and all they do is give us stuff! Money is true wealth! I mean, how else do you buy stuff except with money? So when we export less stuff than we import, we have less money! Now we can't buy more stuff! More stuff makes us poorer because we have less money that we could use to buy stuff!
I've been a fan of Roe v. Wade ever since I can remember, but now I'm beginning to see it as a deeply flawed, poorly reasoned decision that desperately needs to be reconsidered. The Supreme Court should have ruled that the Constitutional right to access abortion care applies throughout pregnancy, thereby making all anti-choice laws unambiguously unconstitutional. Instead, by embracing the trimester based model ? "abortions cannot be banned at this point, but can be restricted at that point" ? the Court left the door open for the War on Women (and Transmen and Non-Binary Uterus Owners) to continue indefinitely.
Yawn.
Inspired by the religious extremist in the White House, Christian theocrats are working overtime to turn this country into The Handmaid's Tale. In related news, Ronda Rousey will be wrestling Nia Jax for the WWE women's title on Monday Night Raw this evening.
That is huge news.
Giving away Rousey v Jax before the PPV Sunday?
Did I have that wrong?
Oh well, It's really not that important.
Man, how sneaky was it for the "Re-elect Trump" folks to imbed DeNiro in the prog ranks?
He might've well have yelled "WE'RE SO FUCKING OUT OF TOUCH!"
Atleast he'd have been more accurate.
I thought Meryl Streep's tantrum about Hollywood actors being the only true artists was a pretty good sign, especially when she went full retard and said that martial arts were not arts, as if anyone would consider them eligible for an art gallery exhibit.
"especially when she went full retard and said that martial arts were not arts"
I thought the boring "that's not real art!" rant was the domain of people (usually in uncreative jobs) who think art should've ended in the renaissance.
Martial arts might actually lead to an art exhibit people want to see.
Perhaps, but a truly edgy, avant garde exhibit requires the janitorial arts
Yes, when they throw an exhibit in the trash because that's what it looks like.
Are you sure that wasn't an intentional "art installation"? It's really hard to tell sometimes.
Performance art FTW!
...or one they're too scared to NOT see.
...unless the martial arts involved CM Punk sucking in the octagon something fierce. That is comedy.
"Fuck Trump!" shouted Robert De Niro at last night's Tony Awards, pumping his fist in the air. "It's no longer 'Down with Trump, it's 'Fuck Trump.'" And with those two lines, the actor set off this week's first round of pointless culture-war posturing.
Oh, now I see! The reason Hillary lost in 2016 was that leftwing celebrities didn't curse enough. They'll F-bomb us into the New Stone Age!
All cell phones are compromised.
Honest libertarians might disagree about this:
"BERLIN ? Chancellor Sebastian Kurz of Austria on Friday ordered the closing of seven mosques and the scrutiny of the right of dozens of Turkish imams to remain in the country, citing suspected violations of an Austrian law that bans "political Islam" or foreign financing of Muslim institutions."
----New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2018/06.....urkey.html
That NYT piece leaves out some critical information, some of which is contained here:
"Austria to shut seven 'political' mosques and expel imams"
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-44410597
The conundrum: The mosques and Imams in question are on the payroll of Turkey. Some of them have ties to a fascist Turkish organization called "The Grey Wolves". "The Grey Wolves" are somewhere between Brownshirt street-fighters and a terrorist organization. YouTube videos from inside these mosques show little kids giving the Grey Wolves salute, being indoctrinated with Grew Wolves ideology, etc. They're recruiting. It should be noted that the Grey Wolves are also alleged to have ties with Turkish intelligence services--sort of like the Taliban and Pakistan's ISI.
The question left to us by Wiemar Republic was whether a democracy should be allowed to vote itself out of existence. I guess the question here is whether freedom of religion protects infiltration by foreign governments.
Good question. A democracy by definition must allow voters to protect its values. Islam is anti-democratic. So take it from there.
BTW, Ken, you wrote some lucid stuff in the past 3-4 days. And I can't believe you watch Lars Von Trier films.
Islam is anti-democratic.
Well, Allah being the All-powerful and all ....
*** kicks pebble ***
Islam is anti-democratic.
Absolute nonsense. I agree with almost everything you post about Drumpf and the economy, but your Islamophobia is indefensible, and makes you sound like a member of the alt-right.
In fact, American Muslims overwhelmingly vote Democrat, which makes them much better allies for us left-libertarians than Christians are.
Well, you're a pretty shitty Liberaltarian/Cosmo then. Anyone that knows what Soros means by an Open Society knows that ALL ideas are subject to rigorous criticism and intolerance like Islam should not be tolerated by voters.
Linda Sarsour and Keith Ellison have done more to #Resist Drumpf than you have, I'm betting. And they're both Muslims.
An increasingly Muslim electorate is an electorate increasingly likely to produce Democratic victories. Those of us who genuinely care about tolerance should welcome this.
I'm not resisting Trump/
I have accepted that the loudmouth oaf Con-Man will lie about everything for the next three years. If he wants a Bush style war in Iran my ass is too old to die there for nothing.
Christianity (the really strict kind) is dying off very rapidly. I'd rather have allies who's parents were christian than fresh off the boat full blown ingrained authoritarian, "feed me," Islamics. They may share some 'democrat' views, but those shared views hardly make up for the whole 'jihad' thing.
Good for them. Political Islam is more akin to Naziism than it is a legitimate mainstream religious faith.
I say that any "religion" that openly calls for violence against nonbelievers doesn't deserve 1st amendment type protection and has no inherent right to exist.
They're leaving other mosques unmolested.
They're just going after the ones that funded by the Turkish government.
They're just expelling the Imams that are on the government payroll.
You could argue that this isn't about Islam at all. You could argue that it's about Erdogan
"Erdogan reacted furiously on Saturday, saying that "these measures taken by the Austrian prime minister are, I fear, leading the world towards a war between the cross and the crescent."
Some of Austria's opposition parties have been broadly supportive of the move, with the centre-left Social Democrats calling it "the first sensible thing this government's done"."
----Middle East Eye
http://www.middleeasteye.net/n.....1509785134
I think it's also telling of the rift between elitists and populists that seems to be happening everywhere in the developed west.
My take? Expelling Imams for recruiting for a fascist, perhaps terrorist, organization is one thing. You might expel any foreign national for doing that. It isn't because they're Muslim Imams. It's because they're recruiting for a fascist, perhaps terrorist, organization.
Shutting down mosques is another question entirely.
Good thing the Bible is so non-violent.
I'm talking about the religion as it is being preached and practiced today.
But I suspect even someone as fucking dense as you already knew that.
If Iunderstand the articles correctly, they weren't banning the Koran, just people who thought that the Koran was consistent with being part of a Turkish-linked terror group.
Link is dead.
Religions don't get first amendment protections, individuals do.
We need a Constitutional amendment, stat!
"Alexa and other smart speakers may endanger privacy rights"
[...]
"In many respects, our Constitution hasn't adapted to the realities of a digital life. We need a digital bill of rights."
[...]
"Although the Constitution does not explicitly spell out a right to privacy, consumers have a reasonable expectation of privacy inside their home thanks to laws based on the Fourth Amendment's outlawing of unlawful search and seizure, as well as federal and state electronic recording and wiretap statutes."

may-endanger-12982917.php
I was concerned about smart speakers from the beginning. Having an internet of things appliance that listens to everything I say in thee hope that I might say "Alexa" is just asking for it.
That's why I implemented an ingenious system to handle that. It doesn't require any special technical knowledge. You don't have to install specialized software on a Raspberry Pi. My solution doesn't even require an act of congress!
I simply refuse to buy one of those fucking things and put it in my home.
Do surveillance on me--and make me pay for the privilege--how stupid do they think I am? What do they think I am, a millennial?!
"Do surveillance on me--and make me pay for the privilege--how stupid do they think I am? What do they think I am, a millennial?!"
Similarly, I don't wear clothes with logos on them. You want advertising space on my shirt? Let's talk $/sq.in.
Seriously, I was on a call with a customer several weeks back, discussing our products and I hear in the background: "I'm sorry, I can't help you with that.". It's his Alexis eavesdropping on our call.
No thanks!
You missed an opportunity to yell "Alexa, delete all my files!"
"Alexa, order me 400 pizzas!"
XKCD's been there, done that.
Hear, hear. Except for sneakers, which are kind of impossible to get a quality pair of without a logo on them.
Check Amazon; really quite a few.
Rhywun is so old he is receiving technological advice from Sevo.
Totally agree about the shirt thing. Except when I can find band shirts in my size. I am totally fine with advertising for local bands.
I'll wear a band shirt only if I buy it at the show.
Same. I but all my clothing with cash from dudes selling from dirty tables.
You want advertising space on my shirt? Let's talk $/sq.in.
Reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.
No shit. I've told my family you'd have to be an absolute moron to put one of those online spies in your house.
I also called my brother, a lawyer, a moron for using a thumbprint to identify himself for Apple. Because, God knows, that kind of data being out there cannot be a problem...
"We need a digital bill of rights."
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of operating systems, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech recognition software, or of the flash drive; or the swipe-right of the people peaceably to use assembly language, and to repartition the government for a redress of grievances."
We need a digital bill of rights.
A well regulated and intelligent defense system being necessary to the security of freedom, the right of the people to independently keep and bear intelligent and self-aware weaponry of any capaicty, shall not be infringed.
"That NYT piece leaves out some critical information,"
At the New York Times, that is called standard operating procedure.
As a comedian once said, in an incisive moment of cutlural awareness: "My father died fighting for your right to free speech, and the best you can say is 'fuck'?"
I liked him in Raging Bull. He plays a decent gangster. The City of Gardiner, NY wishes he would pay his property taxes. He and Harvey go way back but he had no idea Harvey was acting like that with actresses. Huh.
AND NET NEUTRALITY IS GONE!!! T
THE INTERNET IS DEAD!!!
DID THE FCC BAN YOU FROM TALKING ABOUT IT?
IS THAT WHY THERE'S NO LINK?!?!
When some Democrat brings "net neutrality" back, it probably won't mean what we think that means today.
"Net neutrality" will be about how you can't write things that hurt the feelings of minorities on Facebook, etc.
Bet on it.
I recall when Fat Rush (Praise Be Unto Him) Limbaugh was explaining NN to his listeners he said it was when Google returned an equal amount of conservative/liberal links.
Hey, turd! Tell us again about how government price-fixing makes us more free!
It's always good for a laugh when you prove once again how stupid you are!
You're a moron, Sevo. You lie as a form of argument. Like Limbaugh, your hero.
Palin's Buttplug reams Hillary's saggy ass.
"You lie as a form of argument."
Cite ONCE where I have, you slimy piece of shit.
Tell us again about how government price-fixing makes us more free!
Now STFU.
"Tell us again about how government price-fixing makes us more free!"
Pointing out how you support price fixing, while claiming it's helping freedom is a lie?
Did you forget you've done so many, many times? Are you hoping everyone else here forgot?
Or shall we just acknowledge you're a slimy lefty liar?
Do you do anything except listen to Rush and Hannity? You really need to try and find a hobby or at least get your news from somewhere else.
When I drive and there is no good music on the radio I tune in Wingnut AM radio.
You seem obsessed with it. It is one of the many reasons you are not a healthy person.
Get Pandora. Or find your local college radio stations. Anything is better than political talk.
I used to listen to political talk on my work commute until Trump won the nomination, and it because Trump diddy dump dump dump all the time. I couldn't listen to it any more. I'd rather listen to the engine than that shit. Then I got Pandora. Installed it on my phone. Pay ten or twelve bucks a month to download music onto my phone and not have to listen to commercials. So fucking worth it. Haven't listened to Limbaugh or Beck or Carr since. Fuck political talk. Fuck it with a broom stick.
I used to like Beck. During the election they removed him from my local radio station and replaced him with Hannity. Man, I hate Hannity.
Man, I hate Hannity.
I can't stand his voice. It makes my skin crawl.
He's such a quisling.
Beck seems to be legitimately a bit crazy. Hannity is one of those people that I have no idea where he came from or why I know who he is. I can't say that I hate him. But, I honestly have no idea why he has a show on Fox news or why anyone pays any attention to what he says.
Limbaugh is a legitimately talented performer. I don't listen to his show often but the times that I have, he is far more entertaining and interesting than any of his competition. He is basically a one-man show and yet manages to make his show interested three hours a day, five days a week for decades now. That is a hell of an accomplishment. He is leagues ahead of all of his imitators. He is like Johnny Carson, in that he is the undisputed master and indeed maybe the only master of a certain form of entertainment.
I used to like Limbaugh until he became a Trump cheerleader. During the Bush and Obama years (I didn't listen before that) he was a critic. He was always mostly a spokesperson for the Republican Party, but in the past he could still point out where they got things wrong. However Trump's Republican Party can do no wrong. Limbaugh has completely given up on critical thinking. All the talk show hosts did this. Soon as Trump got the nomination they put him on a pedestal even higher than that of Reagan the Patron Saint of the Republican Party. Trump has been practically deified. I can't listen to any of the talking heads without wanting to retch.
I honestly haven't listened to Limbaugh since the rise of Trump. But I never listened to Limbaugh for the substance anyway. It was always for the humor and sarcasm.
I honestly haven't listened to Limbaugh since the rise of Trump. But I never listened to Limbaugh for the substance anyway. It was always for the humor and sarcasm.
I used to like Limbaugh since he would say things that people were thinking but afraid to say themselves. Now it's just Trump diddy dump diddy dump dump dump. Barf.
I like Beck. Got a devil's haircut on my mind...........
I should scroll down further before replying to a can't-thread-this-any-further comment
The Devil's haircut singer?
The last time I 'listed' to Limbaugh was during the Clinton administration when he had a television show, I can't say I've missed it since.
I rage listen to Rush Limbaugh's all the time. He's stupid and fat.
CNBC has Kim Jong Un mania. They are following his tour bus around while he visits the sites before his coffee date with Trump-Un.
"...his coffee date with Trump-Un."
You mean the meeting Obama somehow couldn't manage?
He was busy! He had a Noble peace prize he had to go accept.
Prime Minister Zoolander losing his fake eyebrow has to be one of the strangest moments in TV News history. Who wears fake eyebrows?

Fine chicas?
Cry baby sore loser.
His lover Hillary lost.
And now he's still crying socialist elite tears.
Oh Hillary, Bobby's moments with you were so special.
When you blew Bobby's rod it felt so good and he talked about it at his restaurant .
But Billy caught Booby and Hills in the act, and Billy was furious, that Bobby's Mr Johnson was hard for the Hillary.
Love Deniro. But it's kind of sad that he and his theatre going pals really think they're the resistence. I'd have more respect and/or patience for these tirades if they did anything similar when Obama was continuing many of the same policies they denounced Bush for. Instead, they give a standing ovation for this and invite Michelle Obama to introduce the Best Picture nominee's.
Former North Carolina teacher accused of sex acts with student
It's always some land ass white lady.
Yes. White ladies > other ladies.
Gay
She is 26 and it was with high school students. I see where she should be fired. But I don't think it is much of a crime considering the small age difference.
That seems kinda arbitrary. I judge purely on performance, but the article doesn't provide sufficient data.
Kayla Alayne Sprinkles
Her act should have surprised no one.
Twitter boss Jack Dorsey apologizes over eating at Chick-fil-A 'during Pride month' after anger over fast food chain CEO's views on gay marriage
"I forgot to wear my disguise when I ate there, sorry."
Wait, it says he Tweeted about his restaurant choices on his own Twitter feed.
And then he burned a rainbow flag in a FBLive cast.
SJWs have more rules for piety than a Carmelite nunnery and are less forgiving. What a miserable way to live.
We want freedom! Here is the rule book!
Politically, there are two modes of thought in this country...
A. "People who disagree with me should not be allowed to have a job"
B. "People who disagree with me should get a job"
Honestly, last I checked gay people like chicken sandwiches too. I don't refuse to buy products made in California just because I think they're idiots so I don't know why they would try and boycott places that have no issues whatsoever serving them food.
And if those "places" were donating to political activist groups that sought to restrict your freedoms, here and abroad, up to and including incarceration?
The question was never service, it was political activity.
A quick check shows they don't donate to those ex-gay frauds or anything more controversial than the "Fellowship of Christian Athletes" any more.
So today's activists are either misinformed or attemtping to punish crimethought.
Is it really "misinformed" to have a memory longer then a news cycle?
That said, last week y'all were complaining "why would gay people even want his cake anyway?", saying that regardless of the law, gay folk shouldn't want to support a business that thinks they're all hell-bound sinners.
This week you're complaining that gay folk don't want chicken from a business that thinks they're all hell-bound sinners?
Which is it? Should gay folk avoid businesses with publicly anti-gay owners, or should we continue to go there and put money in their pocket right up until we cross some line with them that they never advertise? (Like the Philadelphia bridal gown shop. No problem making bride's maid dresses for lesbians, big problem making bridal gowns for lesbians. The only way you know this is if you google them and look for news stories from five years ago)
Jane Fonda, 80, says on-screen kissing is now vulgar with too much 'tongue' as opposed to when she was younger when it was 'fun'
*burns leotard*
By this time she probably *wishes* she could disrobe in zero gravity, if you know what I mean.
Jane was hot in her prime and I don't give a fuck how many Vietnam vets she pissed off.
Too much tongue, but look at my tits!
Old story featuring a fun quote from Bourdain:
And you don't want to make Anthony Bourdain angry. When I interviewed him (also in 2007) and mentioned that Wolfgang Puck was no longer serving foie gras, the Kitchen Confidential author shot back, "I think d?head should stop worrying about cruelty to animals and start worrying about all the customers he's flopping his crap on at airports." He didn't stop there: "Listen, he does a lot of business in California, he got squeezed and pressured and phone-called from all angles and like a German shopkeeper, you know, he folded, and sold out the people hiding in the cellar next door. I got no respect?it makes it all the more painful that he's a chef of such stature and importance to American culinary history so it makes me want to throw up in my mouth thinking what a treacherous little c?sucker he is now."
Fun fact: Hudson Valley Foie Gras > all other Foie Gras
Leave it to stupid foodies to think that creamed duck asshole is something that should be eaten.
It is a liver. If you want to make fun of something, make fun of Pate, which is just a fancy name for pressed mystery meat.
I love mystery meat. I just prefer it when it's a sausage.
I love mystery meat too. I love pate. I just find it funny that it is considered such a high-end dish when in truth it is something people made to make the assholes and lips palatable.
A lot of high-end food is like that. Lobster was used as fertilizer at one time. Prisoners rioted over being served lobster in the 1800s. I can remember when chicken wings were considered trash, not that they are particularly high-end. In cooking school we made oxtail soup, which is a fancy dish. I highly doubt tails were always high-end. Sweetbread, as in a calf's pancreas, is some gourmet shit. Coq au vin is a fancy dish that some people serve at weddings. It means "cock in wine" and was how peasants would cook an old rooster. By simmering his rubbery ass in wine all day to make it soft enough to eat.
The list goes on and on.
They were right to.
No kidding. People who eat bugs on purpose are demented.
I eat lobster once in a while. I'm in Maine for fuck's sake. It's an unwritten law.
I thought "sweetbreads" was the thymus glands of lambs?
Mmmmm. Liver. *drool* (except beef liver, that's gross)
I recently purchased a Remington 783 in .308 so I can kill Bambi. Next is my safety course, then a license, then it's off to the woods.
The main reason is because someone gave me some deer liver and it was the most wonderful thing I have tasted in my life. I want more.
Haven't had the opportunity to try liver from a force-fed goose. But it's on my bucket list.
I had some foie gras on Saturday. It was divine.
Leave it to John to ruin it. I know what it is but creamed duck asshole is funnier.
Pate is pressed goose liver , you freaking peasant.
The story of Bourdain making a book of the woman from Grand Forks, South Dakota's restaurant reviews after the foodie mafia made her positive review of an Olive Garden a target of viral derision is one of the best things I have heard in a long time. I really don't care about Bourdain's politics. He was one of the rare people in public life these days who was capable of separating his politics out of other areas. That is what made him interesting. And also what made him a good person. He never let his politics turn him into an asshole or feel compelled to lie for it.
You could learn from that.
Or may you could too. I don't allow my politics to affect my judgment in other areas. But if you want to talk politics with me, you better be ready to do it. I find it funny that people are always saying that I am mean about politics, yet those very same people say must nastier things to me without provocation than I ever say to them with provocation.
I don't think you're mean about politics. I think you are a Party Man. You give up rational thinking when it serves The Party. It's like you default into lawyer mode, pounding the table if you have to, to defend the Republicans, no matter how stupid or wrong they are. Kinda like all the talk show hosts that I can't stand to listen to anymore.
Who are the talk show hosts that you can't stand to listen to anymore?
Hannity?
Maddow?
Cuomo?
Lemon?
Hewitt?
Limbaugh?
O'Reilly?
Carlson?
Carr?
Ingraham?
Reid?
Cavuto?
Judge Jeanine?
Maher?
Yes.
Is this like one of those grade school things where we're supposed to check the boxes or circle the names? I think Suzie is pretty but not Brenda. And I wish Sally would be my girlfriend.
Perhaps you caught Brenda on a bad hair day.
My political views are about the same as my views on everything else: Leave me the fuck alone and I'll leave you alone. I don't hold allegiance to anyone and I have a healthy disrespect for authority. Most of what I do is call people out on fallacies and economic ignorance. Because it's fun. And because I'm an asshole.
Pretty insensitive of Google to remove the protein from the salad emoji just days after Bourdain's death.
I'm just glad someone is standing up to Trump, like the constant free publicity he gets from our conservative-biased media.
I'm just glad someone is standing up to Trump
Especially someone with such a diverse background who can bring such new and dynamic ideas to the table.
That is better trolling that OBL does. Bravo.
Raging Bull was no Blood Sport.
or Best of the Best
And I am no fan of our current president, his administration, his aesthetic style, or his policies. "Fuck Trump" is not a sentiment I stand against on principle.
OK, Elizabeth, here is your cocktail party ticket and rubberstamp.
Did ENB actually spend time writing this post?
Did I actually spend my time (that I'll never get back) clicking on it?
As well as writing this note? Shame on me...
Maybe the guy who dated a madam/prostitute/porn star for several years might want to examine the skeletons in his own closet.
I have little doubt that the loudest male members of the #metoo crowd are hiding things.
Yet another Hollywood shit stain high school dropout suggesting he knows his ass from buttermilk.
Buttermilk is a white liquid, kinda tangy.
His ass is a large grey quadruped with long ears.
Pretty easy to tell apart, honestly.
"Sorry but "F Trump" is not a political message"
One wonders what Ms. Ungar-Sargon thinks that message about a politician exactly is, then?
(Oh, I looked her up - she's the Opinion Editor for the Forward.
So, she's a lockstep Progressive, by inference.
Naturally she wouldn't think that's a political message - it reads completely neutral when you're bathing in it 24/7.)
Reminds me of "Fuck Trump, or Die", a campy mini satire video on tribalism and group think. Eerily accurate for whats going on today in America. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow2dg4OCZko
The entertainers and Hollywood elite have not had it so good yet people like Robert Deniro are putting their pecker in a grinder as exampled by his remarks. Hopefully this will cause them to ground into dog food, worm food for they are not worthy of being do food. But I guess they the entertainers have been so elitists for so long that they don't know how much the average person has been helped by Trump's economy'
I used to really like DeNiro and loved many of his movies. However, clearly he has reached the age he knows he no longer needs t worry about money and has decided to become a political hack and an idiot. Only leftists demonstrate the total lack of civility DeNiro and others do every day in regard to the President and conservatives in general. I think it is especially ironic considering they are also the same people who constantly preach to us all about tolerance, acceptance of other values and ideas and all of us "getting along".
'Hey Bobby, cry over here please, you missed a spot' - Donny
One of De Niro's friends should have run on stage and stopped him. Instead, his "friends" egged him on. Some friends he has. They let him make a fool of himself.
