  • Omar Mateen
    Balkis Press / Sipa USA/Newscom

The United States, the United Kingdom, and 13 European countries announced they're expelling more than 100 Russian diplomats in response to a nerve attack against a former Russian spy in England. It's the largest expulsion since the Cold War. The Russian consulate in Seattle has also been ordered closed.

  • The attorneys for Noor Salman, wife of Orlando Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen, are calling for a mistrial after discovering that Mateen's father was a confidential FBI source up until 2016. They argue that the authorities pointed the finger at Salman to hide the father's relationship.
  • An attorney for President Donald Trump's attorney, Michael Cohen, hit back at the Stormy Daniels interview on 60 Minutes last night, denying claims that somebody in Trump's orbit threatened her and her daughter if she came forward.
  • Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced he'd be introducing legislation to legalize hemp as an agricultural product and attempting to remove it from the controlled substances list. The bill's co-sponsors are Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
  • Police say an Iraqi teen living in Texas with her parents was beaten and burned with hot oil for resisting an arranged marriage. The parents face felony charges.
  • The Federal Trade Commission has confirmed that it's investigating Facebook's data privacy practices in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

It's the largest expulsion since the Cold War.

What about retaliating for poisoning our presidential elections???

    1. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

I bet Melania is going to retailiate for the embarrassment this interview brought on her by Trump.

      Hello.

If this keeps up, Russia won't just have to worry about their athletes.

      The political diplomats from Russia.

...Mateen's father was a confidential FBI source up until 2016 and argue that authorities pointed the finger at Salman as assisting Mateen to hide his father's relationship.

I can't keep track of that particular bureaucracy's machinations.

    1. Rich   7 years ago

There had jolly well better be a special investigation!

  3. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

...denying claims that somebody in Trump's orbit threatened her and her daughter if she came forward.

Depends on what your definition of orbit is.

    1. Leo Kovalensky II   7 years ago

I mean he's overweight sure... but maintaining his own orbit seems a bit of a stretch.

      1. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

Well, he better clear his orbit if he ever wants to be taken seriously as a hamplanet.

        1. Leo Kovalensky II   7 years ago

I like to think of Trump and Chris Christie as binary stars orbiting each other. So really Christie should be implicated too for increasing the gravitational field of Trump's orbit.

          1. John   7 years ago

Christie is the schmuck who buys the land that Trump sells to him. Trump is the closer. Christie is the mark.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced he'd be introducing legislation to legalize hemp as an agricultural product and attempting to remove it from the controlled substances list.

Not so square after all. It looks like Reason owes a certain Majority Leader a huge apology.

Reminds me of a poem by (I believe) Augustus De Morgan:

Big fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so, ad infinitum.
      And the great fleas, themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on;
While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.

      1. Square = Circle   7 years ago

Would that imply the existence of a Supreme Flea?

        1. Eidde   7 years ago

          I think Jefferson was a Flea-ist.

You know, John, I've heard from reliable sources that criticizing the FBI is being a big old traitor. That agency is beyond reproach, don't you know?

Shooting happened in 6/16. Maybe the FBI was too busy spying on Trump people to notice it.

Attention followers of The Prophet. Alabama is the religious state that loves Allah and prohibitionism, not Texas. Texans shoot violent sand people--especially child abusers. Also, in Alabama that young lady would be considered a beauty queen, with handsome young men of means lining up to beg her father to arrange them a marriage to her. This has been a Public Service Announcement, but His Royal Highness assumes no liability for the truth or falsehood of any of this translated content.

I am from Kansas. They will take my passport if I don't root for KU. But no way do I want Michigan to win. I want a KU Loyola final.

Bill Self has done one hell of a job with this team. All of the times that Kansas has had awesome talent and gagged, it wouldn't surprise me that they finally win with a team that isn't that talented.

                    1. Libertymike   7 years ago

Bill Self has done a hell of a job. Overall, he has grown on me. Back in the day when he was the head coach of Illinois and his first few years at Kansas, I didn't care much for him.

                    2. DJK   7 years ago

Self has done about what he should with the talent he's recruited. Check out the 538 article below (you need to scroll all the way down to #188 to find Self).

                    5. John   7 years ago

You goofed the link. And Kansas has a lot of talent this year. It is just less than they have had in past years when he had guys like Joel Embid and Sheldon Wiggins. And I think Self has done more with the talent he has recruited than Roy Williams ever did. Roy Williams had Paul Pierce and Raf LeFrenze for three years and couldn't even get to a final four.

                    6. Libertymike   7 years ago

Well, although he didn't have Truth and LeFrenze, Roy did get to the championship game in 2003 and losing to Syracuse and Carmelo Anthony.

Do you remember Bonnie Bernstein asking Roy about the North Carolina gig after the game? That was some raw shit.

                    7. John   7 years ago

I was overseas and missed that game thankfully. I always have had a thing for Bernstein. Man does she have a great rack. Former college gymnast and has a rack like that. Shame you never see her anymore.

                    8. Libertymike   7 years ago

Yes, she is pretty and has a nice rack.

Do you remember when she did NFL sideline reporting on CBS? Dick Enberg often would refer to her as "B squared." I'm sure he also thought "OH MY!"

The NSA Worked to "Track Down" Bitcoin Users, Snowden Documents Reveal

Classified documents provided by whistleblower Edward Snowden show that the National Security Agency indeed worked urgently to target bitcoin users around the world ? and wielded at least one mysterious source of information to "help track down senders and receivers of Bitcoins," according to a top-secret passage in an internal NSA report dating to March 2013. The data source appears to have leveraged the NSA's ability to harvest and analyze raw, global internet traffic while also exploiting an unnamed software program that purported to offer anonymity to users, according to other documents.

    This is belated as fuck.

Off topic: Worst Reason troll, semi-finals:

    Tony vs. Weigel's Cock Ring

In the first round, Tony defeated his two opponents by a score of 4-2-2. This was enough to win Tony a first-round bye and the title of "most annoying-ass know-it-all." By contrast, Weigel's Cock Ring won his title as "most annoying-ass righty" by a decision against John, where both of them only garnered a single vote (John's vote coming from another division winning troll). However, in his second round matchup with Shikha Dalmia, Weigel won unanimously?and, more importantly, brought home a total of seven votes in that second round matchup. That makes Weigel's Cock Ring a stronger opponent than might have been anticipated, especially given that Shikha was favored going into the match.

Tony vs. Weigel's Cock Ring, go!

    1. John   7 years ago

No one is as annoying as I am.

    2. Unicorn Abattoir   7 years ago

      Tony, by frequency alone.

    3. Yellow Tony   7 years ago

But are they trolls? This dimension's current me is merely a feisty homosexual liberal, and WCR/DD is a screeching retard whose intelligence couldn't permit being a captain of a ruse cruise.

A half eaten three month old Charleston Chew.

And we're not absolutely certain it's really a Charleston Chew,

    4. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

Boy, this is a tough one. If the main criterion is who is more annoying, it's probably Tony, because he is like the bartender from The Shining: he's always been here. Tony sometimes makes good points, even though he totally surrounds those good points with dollop of ignorance that stink the thread up like sour cream gone bad. Mikey, on the other hand, is totally unhinged, but is entertaining. But in a way that makes you feel bad about it, like being entertained about watching two kids on the short bus fight.

      1. John   7 years ago

The question is whether Tony is real. Either Tony is real and is the dumbest most neurotic ignorant Prog on search, in which case he can't be counted as a troll or he is fake and is by far and away the best trolling act ever done. It is hard to say. Could someone really be that convincing as a troll? At the same time, is it possible someone could actually be that ignorant? Tough call.

        1. Tony   7 years ago

Unfortunately you seem all too real. A walking regurgitation machine of right-wing bullshit, both common and goose-steppingly uniform in your mindless recitations. All unwitting agents of a political party so incompetent and corrupt one wonders how anyone could be stupid enough to buy their crap. Yet buy it you do.

          1. John   7 years ago

Can someone be this angry and stupid? I wouldn't pretend to know. Sometimes I think perhaps I am inclined to believe Tony is not real because imaging him being real is just too horrible to contemplate.

I just don't know if anyone, at least any of the common posters, can beat Mikey in a stupid contest. You need some challenges to views, and Tony does that, sometimes better than other times. Mikey is just like a screeching monkey, with an intense erotic fixation on David Weigel.

              1. John   7 years ago

You get challenges to views from people like Juice and Stormy Dragon. They are reliably left wing but generally reasonable and occasionally make very good points. Tony never makes a good point. it is always anger and ignorance.

                1. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

I think Tony is willing to join in time to time, and he can be very surly, but I legitimately believe Mikey lowers the level of discourse.

                  1. John   7 years ago

Tony does too.he only shows up on threads involving gays or partisan democrats and shits all over the thread making intelligent discussion impossible. The board would be much better without him. He never has anything interesting to add. He is worse than shreek, who is at least funny.

                2. Tony   7 years ago

I mostly get angry at you John because you're such a raging hypocrite. I hate hypocrisy worse than anything, maybe.

That little number you pulled with Iraq vs. Libya on the other thread--that kind of thing really ticks me off. And just the general butt work you do for the Republican party for no rational reason.

                  1. John   7 years ago

Tony you are so stupid. It never seems to dawn on you that you defend Obama for doing the same things you claim to hate Bush for. You have no idea the issues involved in Libya or Iraq or the results from either intervention. All you know is that Obama did Libya so it must be okay. And then you call anyone who points out that Obama destroyed an entire country with a totally illegal and unjustified intervention, a hypocrite. And you honestly think no one reading this sees that.

You are just dumb as a post. If you didn't have talking points and mindless partisanship, you wouldn't have anything at all.

                  2. silver.   7 years ago

I really don't think Tony is as bad without a John to trigger him. Those two are like oil and water .. or rival animals that have to drop everything they're doing and start fighting the second they're in the same vicinity as each other.

                    1. John   7 years ago

Tony is dumb as a post and easy to pick on. I should ignore him. Picking on stupid people is one of my vices and not really a good one to be honest.

                    2. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

You guys are basically mirror images of each other anyway. I assume that's what Red Tony as a nickname came from.

                    3. John   7 years ago

How am I a mirror image? My views are all over the place. People always claim that I am some partisan hack, but i stand behind no one in my criticism of the police. I am pro legalized gambling and prostitution. I have views on trade and regulation that coincide with neither party's position.

If you think that I am some partisan hack who only takes the Republican or conservative position the way Tony shills for the left, then you are either lying or too stupid to understand or too lazy to read my posts. Go fuck yourself if you think that. Seriously, go fuck yourself. That is the most insulting and untrue thing anyone has ever said about me on here.; If you think that is true, you are an idiot who just doesn't like the fact that I make points you can't respond to. Try paying more attention and thinking more.

                    4. Square = Circle   7 years ago

That is the most insulting and untrue thing anyone has ever said about me on here.

John - people say exactly that to you all the time. People have been calling you Red Tony for years and years. I'm surprised you've never noticed.

                    5. John   7 years ago

And it is because they are pissed off that they can't win an argument. There is no rational or objective way to support that contention. They just make it because they have nothing better to say. And that is fine. But they are going to get back the same from me in kind. There are lots of people on here who never say that. The only ones who do are the people butt hurt because I won't kiss their ass. Well, too fucking bad.

                    6. Square = Circle   7 years ago

The only ones who do are the people butt hurt because I won't kiss their ass

I don't think it's quite as simple as that, but I would agree that in general your positions tend to be better informed and more thought-out than Tony's.

But Tony isn't always a doctrinaire Team player, either, and you both do have a similar tendency to dig in your heels and insult people in the course of discussions that you have an emotional attachment to.

And in both of your cases, the issues where you tend to stop listening and instead start flailing insults at people also happen to be your most partisan positions.

                    7. John   7 years ago

seriously BUCS, you are no brighter than Tony.

                    8. Red Tony   7 years ago

Maybe it's the fact that you accused BUCS of being no brighter than Tony when he's one of the more levelheaded commenters here. That's a Past Me level statement there.

                    9. John   7 years ago

Saying I am the mirror image of Tony is incredibly insulting. But somehow the problem is that I insulted him back? That is what kills me about you people.. You are insulting as hell towards me. I wasn't bothering BUCS at all. And suddenly he throws that out. So, I respond by saying the same thing back to him and here you are to whine about how hard I am being on him. Really? So i8t is okay for him to say I am no brighter than Tony but if I say that to him that is being insulting to a level headed commentator? If he is so level headed, why is he being so insulting?

I get it, I am supposed to just be insulted and take it because well, you people can only give but can't take it. Sorry, I give as good as I get. If you don't like that, don't insult me.

                    10. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

I didn't even mean it particularly as an insult. Just the statement that I thought that was where your Red Tony nickname came from.

I haven't been around long, but if not that then what's the origin of your nickname.

                    11. Freddy the Jerk   7 years ago

John, why don't you just ask Tony out already? The sexual tension between you two is worse than some stupid 80's TV sitcom...

Anyway, my vote is for Tony. That manchild never had an original thought in his life...

                    12. Tony   7 years ago

You are Red Me because we are both admitted partisans on a libertarian website. I happen to see virtue in picking a team, as I have explained many times. BUCS, John's posts are almost always better informed and reasoned than those of Tony.

Yes, you are one of the most levelheaded of our community - even though you lampooned me for paying a compliment to LC1789.

                    23. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

Do you mean when I asked if you were the same Libertymike as before? Because that was a real question as your demeanor seems quite different lately.

                    24. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

Otherwise, I don't know what specific thing you're referring to Mike. I probably meant it as a joke, as about half of what I do is crack dumb jokes. But if actually insulted you then I apologise, as I am definitely prone to needless rudeness at times.

                    25. Libertymike   7 years ago

You probably meant it as a joke but you might have been surprised that I was complimenting LC.

                    28. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

I don't know. You're super anti Trump. But I can't rememberer if you were that way before you disappeared to Florida. In general I can't say how you seem different, and it could very well be that I just remembered your demeanor differently from how it actually was.

Not meant as a bad thing though.

You characterize yourself as coming from another dimension and being Tony, who is in the running for being the worst troll on Reason's comment boards. Not only that, but your shtick?an "alternate" version of a long-reviled commenter?isn't even original, as I (future Tony) arrived and started doing that close to half a year prior. And on top of that, you pretty much never appear except on P.M. Maybe Trump is feeling that he was too paranoid with Stormy Daniels and so feels freer to hit the Russians. If he can fuck a porn star while his infant son is in his wife's care, what's a little piss play in Moscow?

That leaves the money stuff. But Trump has always been more freewheeling when talking about his, uh, approach to capitalism than he has talking about his infidelities, probably because said wife might hear.

As seen in local news reports, while the two suspects were being led away in handcuffs from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, the father could be heard shouting to media, blaming the daughter for the situation.

You need to shut your trap Dad... here in the United States, of you keep your mouth shut, CPS usually releases your kid back to you in a few weeks so you can pour more hot oil on them.

As seen in local news reports, while the two suspects were being led away in handcuffs from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, the father could be heard shouting to media, blaming the daughter for the situation.

Now we get to hear the media blaming Trump for the situation:

I mean, just because they came here from Iraq or Syria during the refugee crisis doesn't necessarily mean they were refugees.

If we let in more refugees, we could save more girls from these situations.

If it weren't for Donald Trump making refugees feel so anxious, maybe they would adopt our cultural norms.

So, yes, Donald Trump is to blame for everything.

The dad was apparently raising money for ISIS and tried to send money to various middle eastern spots. In about 3,4 years we'll learn that the Vegas shooter was involved in arms trafficking.

"A suspicious middle eastern FBI informant's son turned out to be a terrorist" is something straight out of a movie. His son was already on the FBI watch list. If they keep dropping the ball we might not believe the FBI is some honorable organization.

Often people will get revenge on the FBI if they feel it was unfairly targeting them or their family. This is the case with Lee Harvey Oswald, the Las Vegas shooter (his father was a bank robber deemed 'psychopathic' by the FBI) and Andrew Cunanan (great show on FX, BTW). They get revenge by going on a crime spree. Same for the Manchester bombing (but with MI6). This is a common thread, but is not the only motivation.

  27. Hank Phillips   7 years ago

Reading over the Dem platform, there is far less shrillness, fewer demands for burning hemp "kingpins" at the stake compared to when Bush or Clinton were President. Still, no looter platform called for legalizing pregnancy termination when the LP finessed the plank into a surprise Supreme Court decision. Also the Republican Party habit of baiting gays ended at the hands of the Supreme Court just in time to save the Trump Campaign from its Landover Baptist supporters in 2016. That was an LP plank decades ago. If the Dems come out LOUDLY for decriminalization and also copy the LP energy plank, the next election might be a fair fight--as looter dogfights go. Spoiler votes pack all manner of law-changing clout.
