Florida government Rick Scott signs bill raising the age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21...
18-20 year-olds have been tossed into the volcano. The gods have been sated.
Or forced to drive to Alabama to buy rifles?
Or forced to drive to Alabama to buy rifles?
The Pensacola Gun Show on the 17th and 18th should be interesting. If everybody's over 21, they can serve alcohol, right?
Yeah, but the fairgrounds are so ugh, who wants to go drinking there?
If people drink to forget, maybe they want to forget what the fairgrounds are like.
Hello.
It'll work, just like people under the age of 21 are never able to acquire alcohol.
Private party sales will still be legal for 18-20 yo.
I thought everyone in Florida was 65 or older???
That's just the average age.
Actually, Florida has been a net exporter of retirees since the early 1990s.
Florida has about the fifth highest average age (2014); in spite of that it still has the highest percentage of over 65-yr-olds.
Not a great stat, as it just means people leave it when they have to work.
No, it means that more people leave Florida to retire than come to Florida to retire.
People used to come to Florida to retire because of the low cost of living, especially the low cost of housing; now, there are many states that offer lower housing and other costs plus they don't have the hot sticky mosquito infested summers.
I meant for highest average age.
OK, i'm not sure what you mean. there is only one highest average age and Florida's was the fifth highest as of 2014.
If I am not mistaken, that means there are four states (as of 2014) with older populations that the Sunshine State,
A burger-flipping robot at a California restaurant has been fired for being too slow.
Now is the time to push for a fast food worker minimum wage hike!
Are robots eligible for unemployment benefits?
That sounds like a Philip K. Dick short story.
Living wage is measured in $/kWh for the robot-class, right?
What does it say about a robot when a human can do your job?
It means the robot is C3-POed.
and funding more school resource officers in response to the Parkland shooting.
Because that was certainly the problem.
Guns aren't the problem. That's for sure.
Motherfuckers with crazy eyes, though...
You leave Uzo Aduba out of this.
Fetal alcohol syndrome was probably the problem.
Guns aren't the problem. That's for sure.
Only objectively, based on empirical reality. By those standards, sure, it's a mathematical fact that guns aren't the problem.
But you have to approach the issue like a pants-shitting, irrational coward. And when you do that, you'll realize...guns are DEFINITELY the problem.
Maybe they can stick some legs on the recently fired burger-flipping robot and make him a Terminator-style school resource officer. It would imitate real human life and give the poor guy something to do.
Worst case you end up with Westworld set in a high school, which would make a great horror flick.
A school resource officer who dumps kids into boiling oil?
VP Mike Pence says the Trump-Kim talks vindicate U.S. strategy on North Korea.
Someone's counting chickens that North Korea doesn't have.
Don't count your chickens before they come home to roost
(or something)
Active shooter situation reported at California veterans home.
Sevo finally snapped, huh.
They planned to switch the motorized scooter provider from Little Rascal to Tesla.
American allies mull strategies to push back on Trump tariffs.
Sweet talking the president will get you a waiver.
I'd like to rescind my vote for John as head right-wing troll and nominate KMW, who wrote this in the NYTIMES
When Smug Liberals Met Conservative Trolls
Or was it liberals, cozy in their elite enclaves on the coasts, who burrowed down into self-righteousness, lecturing working-class Republicans about how they misunderstand their own interests?
Bravo, ms. Mango-Ward, BRAVO.
What's going on with that bracket, anyway? Have we done the insane trolls yet?
What's going on is yesterday I had shit to do during PM links. Same for today. And because I didn't want to post a couple hours late and get no response, I'm postponing until Monday to do the next ones: the talented/insane.
For the record, here are the results thus far.
Lefties Winner: Robespierre Josef Stalin Pot (3-0, unanimous)
Righties Winner: The Artist Formerly Known as Domestic Dissident (1-1, decision [the fact that RJSP was the only other one to vote, voted for John, and has now rescinded the vote makes TAFKADD the obvious choice])
No way! I thought I lost 1st round. YOU LIKE ME!!! YOU REALLY LIKE ME!!!
I'm not sure if I should be disappointed that I didn't get a mention in the right wing trolls list, or if I should take that as a compliment.
I'm a shoo-in for "insane." You may as well give me the award now.
There *is* a large cash prize, right?
There's a copy of Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround. Does that count?
(Googles)
Wow, you didn't make that up, it's a real thing!
So, uh, anyway, thanks?
I vote for Mikey.
No one likes their elite enclave invaded by people pointing out you live in an elite enclave. I understand the liberals here.
Active shooter situation reported at California veterans home.
Are we sure it's not just a SWAT raid looking for appropriated Lugers contraband Viagra?

Damn, Rick Scott made himself dictator of Florida?

We need to talk about sexual assault in marriage
...I am a humanities professor who teaches feminist theory, models feminist behavior for my students and my own children, and has achieved success in a male-dominated field. Last year, my teenage son and I chanted in support of women's reproductive rights at the Women's March in Washington. And yet for years I submitted to unwanted sex from my husband, leaving me sexually traumatized long after I ended that marriage. All the feminist texts I had read could not drown out what I had absorbed from society and popular culture: that it was my duty to satisfy my husband, regardless of my own feelings....
...Leaving a marriage is much harder than calling an Uber. It requires breaking up a family, and deciding that avoiding unwanted sex is worth giving up half the time you would have spent with your kids. ...
...The institution of marriage provides a prefab version of the setting West describes. It gives a man years to accomplish the emotional manipulation that men on dates must squeeze into an evening. How can we consider such a persistent campaign for a woman's compliance anything but assault?...
She sounds like a real joy to be married to.
Happy wife, happy life.
""And yet for years I submitted to unwanted sex from my husband, leaving me sexually traumatized long after I ended that marriage. All the feminist texts I had read could not drown out what I had absorbed from society and popular culture: that it was my duty to satisfy my husband, regardless of my own feelings....""
""...Leaving a marriage is much harder than calling an Uber""
She should have told her husband about how much she didn't want to have sex early in the marriage. Then she would have learned that it is as easy as calling an Uber. That's what he would have done.
What about all the unwanted nagging to which the husband was subjected?
And bad sex from an uninterested wife who wouldn't just say "no". This is all so very confusing.
And yet for years I submitted to unwanted sex from my husband, leaving me sexually traumatized long after I ended that marriage.
So, either you ended the marriage and didn't tell him or submitted to sex with a man you weren't married to and didn't have the least obligation to have sex with. So, you're lying to yourself, everyone else, or both. Kudos on being a model of feminist behavior. Fuck you in the ass with a wooden shovel handle, platonically, for warping your son because of it.
Once I had to run straight from bed to the bathroom, where I retched into the toilet. I spared him and the therapist that detail.
Wow, so lying by omission at the very least and...
This writer has chosen to remain anonymous to protect everyone involved in this article.
Probably lying outright and entirely.
Wait, is feminist theory a male dominated field?
I think there was a typo and she meant to use dominatrix.
...My husband shrugged and, staring ahead with more indifference than disdain, replied, "She's always so melodramatic." His response didn't surprise me. It was his standard reaction to my complaints about the sad state of our marriage, his way of training me to see my needs ? emotional connection and communication ? as excessive, and his (primarily sex) as entirely reasonable....
Sounds like a couple of real winners in that marriage.
It's astonishing how willing she is to deny herself all volition.
Not just herself. All married women who prefer to sleep naked are perpetually available to their husbands sexually.
Weird that lesbians don't seem to exist and aren't generally known to be more generally rapey and assaulty within marriages/committed relationships.
How did he do it? Mine started to shrivel up halfway through her first sentence.
...On the nights when I couldn't get out of it, we used a method that I had taught myself to tolerate and that he, astoundingly, tolerated as well: I read a book to distract myself for as long as I could while he did the thing he needed to do. I did not let him kiss me for the last several years of our marriage. That was the rule: You can fuck me, but you can't kiss me, and I don't have to pretend to like it. This satisfied him....
If this was role play, it would be kinda hot. However, this is just nauseating in many ways.
Why would you marry someone who doesn't like sex?
I suppose because she's fabulously wealthy.
The question is whether she is training her son to submit to his future husband or if he intends to have a sexless marriage.
models feminist behavior for my students and my own children
huh?
As detailed in the body of the article.
Oh, wait, I thought she said models feminist behavior for her husband.
...The institution of marriage provides a prefab version of the setting West describes. It gives a man years to accomplish the emotional manipulation that men on dates must squeeze into an evening. How can we consider such a persistent campaign for a woman's compliance anything but assault?...
So... where does this leave us on the gay marriage question?
That's more like battery?
"I am a humanities professor who teaches feminist theory,..."
I am very happy to be married to someone other than that.
I'm pretty sure being a "Feminist Theory" professor is NOT a "male-dominated field".
When she was in grad school did she walk around campus with a mattress strapped to her back?
Florida government Rick Scott signs bill raising the age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, banning the sale of bump stocks, and funding more school resource officers in response to the Parkland shooting.
So Florida is in rebellion now along with California by interfering in interstate commerce? Does Jeff Sessions know about this?
...funding more school resource officers in response to the Parkland shooting.
Anything times zero is what?
American allies mull strategies to push back on Trump tariffs.
Tell him the tariffs make him look fat and bald and his hands look small.
Sounds like these woke residents...
[dons sunglasses]
...refused to get woke.
^^Your best work. A real treasure.^^
Obviously.
Welcome to the art of the union protest in the millennial age.
Yep, they only care about themselves and their own beliefs. No respect for anyone else.
If they don't like a movie yelling "fire" in the theatre is fair game.
"Florida government Rick Scott signs bill raising the age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21..."
That'll learn 'em.
Why didn't they raise it to 24?
What about college age kids?
They just want people to die.
It's so dumb they don't even believe it'll do anything.
"Nobody ever notified me that it (the charge of criminal defamation) didn't have any validity," Todd said in the deposition taken last October.
"My job is to charge people with violations of the law, not to know what the law is!"
I suspect they went flipping through the book, looking for a charge. They found something that was ruled unconstitutional but never deleted.
Not entirely their fault. They are assholes, yes, but if they did rely on an authoritative source then they aren't criminals.
"Todd (the magistrate) would explain later in a deposition that he did not know the Georgia Supreme Court had found criminal defamation unconstitutional in 1982. Todd was elected to his seat, presiding in the Magistrate Court for more than 13 years after he retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He did not attend college or law school, which Georgia law allows."
He should at least have a computer with access to one of those databases which list relevant court decisions next to each statute.
"Unconstitutional, eh? Well, I guess that's that."
Somebody needs to get in touch with the Department of Notifying Judges Which Laws Are No Longer Valid and make sure this guy's on their mailing list. And maybe get in touch with the judge and make sure he's been notified that Prohibition has been lifted and the Fugitive Slave Acts are no longer valid.
"Florida government Rick Scott signs bill raising the age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, banning the sale of bump stocks, and funding more school resource officers in response to the Parkland shooting."
Technically speaking, the school resource officers failed to respond to the Parkland shooting.
Next time, I'm sure it will be different. Because, you know, they're spending more money.
Pharmadouche got 7 years.
Glad we can feel validated and go back to ignoring root issues with pharmaceutical pricing.
7 year of what?
Hint: he broke the mirror that told him he wasn't the loveliest of them all.
7 years of federal pounding in the ass prison, I hear.
His cellmate will be doing hard time.
Good thing he studied all that Wu Tang style, so he doesn't have to bitch up in prison.
"Florida government Rick Scott signs bill raising the age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, banning the sale of bump stocks, and funding more school resource officers in response to the Parkland shooting."
Hmm. How about giving bump stocks to the existing resource officers?
How about giving them a bunch of porn so they have an excuse for jacking off when they're supposed to be doing their jobs?
Bump stocks would allow whacking off at something greater than a medium pace.
This is why women can't get ahead in politics, we keep pulling them back down.
and funding more school resource officers in response to the Parkland shooting.
america, you're becoming a parody of yourself.
At least they aren't funding the cloning of the specific respurce officer. Yet. I bet Richard Jewel, RIP, would have intervened.
Pajama-clad residents initially watched bewildered from their balconies as a group of about seven demonstrators from a hotel workers union, Unite Here Local 11, picketed and chanted on the sidewalk below. Some had been awakened from slumber a little after 7 a.m., when the loud chants started.
A hotel workers union. It almost makes one think that the interests of the hotel workers union are aligned with the hotels.
What the hell is Chris Farley doing standing next to Gov. Rick Scott dressed in drag?
(RIP Chris Farley)
Can't... unsee... it...
I thought it was Jabba the Hut.
I am obligated to *like* comments that make me lose my shit laughing.
But that is fat shaming and it's not nice.
Tell me something, Past Me. Did you at some point start living in a van down by the river?
Fat man in a little coat.
Seven protesters were allowed to shut traffic down throughout an entire metro region for hours because of the first amendment.
The sheriff's office basically just babbled about a different issue.
The protesters had no permit, but apparently, the city doesn't impose a permit requirement on pickets or parades in the public streets.
I thought that (so long as they're nondiscriminatory), parade permits could be required if you want to walk in the streets and block traffic. That gives time for advance notice to the public. And frankly, it's a way to keep the "peaceful" in peaceful assembly.
...because nothing says "peaceful" like popping into the street and blocking traffic without giving prior notice and making arrangements.
The reason that it was unconstitutional to arrest Martin Luther King when he demonstrated in Birmingham's streets was that the permit system was discriminatory...that is, only people who were politically sympatico with the police chief got permits, and that didn't include King.
They should probably just box the Flippy Cylon line.
I'm not going to read all comments to see if anyone asked this already, but why the fuck does a local event like a shooter at a California veterans' home qualify as a national story? If it were LESS than 700-1000 miles away, maybe. If it were the first action in a Calexit uprising, okay. But how does REASON assign significance to this while ignoring the other 22,000 violent crimes committed in the country yesterday?
Now, maybe if it involved 'tha chiiildrens', or was a black guy getting shot by police...
