Brickbat: Give Peace a Chance

A Turkish court has sentenced human rights activist Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu to two-and-a-half years in prison for a tweet he posted calling for peace. Gergerlioglu posted a photo of a World Peace Day demonstration of two mothers marching behind symbolic coffins, one draped with the Turkish flag, the other with the flag of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). He wrote, "Looking at this picture, you will understand that this war has no meaning. Mothers the same, flags different." The government accused him of posting propaganda for the PKK, which is deemed a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the European Union, the United States, and the United Nations.

A "human rights activist"? Good. Those people are getting really, really tiresome. Nothing of value lost here!
In related news, Turkey invaded a couple of cities in Syria so that Syrian refugees can settle there. We will see how the International Community responds. Many people objected when Israel occupied Southern Lebanon to keep the Christians there safe.
that's an interesting take on turkeys motivations. Almost as believable as human rights being the motivator for our Libya policy
Struggle? You literally just said you reject conflicts.
Good catch.
Any difficult endeavor can be described as a "struggle". It need not mean engaging in violent conflict with others. This "contradiction" really isn't one.
He should write a book about his struggle.
'Joey, ever been in a Turkish prison?'
Do you like gladiator movies?
Know who else said "Give peace a chance?"
Rodney King?
Tsar Nicholas?
Parents to kids who won't eat their vegetables?
Turkey is a terrorist organization by any objective measure and then could argue the EU and US provide material support to this fascist terrorist state.
By definition, it is tyranny when the state does it and terrorism when non-state entities do it.
Shit hole country.
Give Peace a Chance
Go ahead. I'll cover you if it doesn't work out. *Sets AR to to full semi-automatic*
I want one of those aircraft carrier attachments.
I have a friend who owns a full semi-automatic muzzle loader.
I see England and Turkey have the same policies on free speech.
At this point I'm about of the opinion that we should eject Turkey from NATO.
