Michigan State Students and Faculty Protest Interim President for Supporting School Choice, Not Being a Woman
The Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal brings new leadership and old complaints.

Student-activists crashed a meeting of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees this morning. They were there to protest the decision to hire John Engler as the university's interim president. (Engler's predecessor, Lou Anna Simon, resigned in the wake of the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal.)
One student climbed onto a table, sat down, and delivered a speech lamenting that Engler, a Michigan State graduate who served as governor from 1991 to 2003, "further corporatizes Michigan State University, defunds and de-integritizes Michigan State's public education reputation." Other activists then began snapping their fingers and clapping their hands.
The protester was apparently referencing Engler's long history of supporting school choice reforms in the state, which many activists view as an attack on the public education system—even though the case for school choice is, as Reason's Nick Gillespie puts it, "overwhelming."
Some instructors were also bothered by the trustees' choice, albeit for different reasons. Notably, they were upset that Engler is not a woman.
"We suggested that a strong effort be made to place a woman with extensive academic leadership experience in this position, because her lived experience would provide needed wisdom at this juncture," some of the faculty said in a statement.
One might think the necessity of finding a female candidate would be undercut by the fact that the Nassar scandal unfolded under the watch of Simon, a woman. In any event, Engler is only an interim pick until a permanent candidate is found.
Simon isn't going to disappear, by the way. According to the terms of her contract, the university still has to pay her millions of dollars over the course of the next several years.

"Give us what we want before we forced to escalate to jazz hands!"
It's like kindergarten, but with more gibberish.
De-integritizes.
You've harmed the brand enough, thanks.
Don't de-legitimatize their protestationisms.

Teach women not to sanction rape!
She wasn't ready to take on the patriarchy, but the next one will be.
I am not a woman.
"further corporatizes Michigan State University, defunds and de-integritizes Michigan State's public education reputation."
Wha...?
This new language is really weird.
I don't know what MSU does...but, clearly, it isn't educating anybody.
Sparty on, dude!
He's trying to sound more authenticious.
Too much socialist, postmodernist baloney.
If you will notice, most of these goobers are always liberal arts grad students. I do not know how liberal arts at the graduate level has descended from the studying the classics to baloney from Nietzsche, Marx, Hegel, Heidegger, Derrida, and Foucault, but descend it has.
I got a buddy who is a PhD student in creative writing (yes this is a this apparently). Real good dude, loved NASCAR and hunting and normal things. Even had a Confederate flag at his house in college! Now he is in grad school and jabbers on about critical theory and whatever bullshit Derrida decided to bloviate about. A crying shame. He would probably participate in these protests now too.

So what you're saying is that the protester are racist (don't want non-white children to have a chance at a better education) and sexist (disparage a person because of their sex).
...de-integritizes
Errr? These kids are either really smart or really dumb.
They smart enough to know that their best route is to baffle with bullshit rather than blind with brillance.
When in doubt, go with being really dumb.
We're gonna need a bigger boat... to take them all out to sea and leave them there.
Well, we can't have people making their own choices! That's anarchy! Unless a baby gets aborted as a result, then it's okay.
What does this have to do with abortion again?
Nothing. It's sarcasm. You might have heard of it.
You rang?
Yes! Where you been?
Drinking myself to death. The usual.
That's when a shark climaxes, right?
What does this have to do with abortion again?
Open your eyes, cuck!
You know who doesn't get to open their eyes? Aborted babies.
That's just the way the lefty socialists want it.
""""Engler is not a woman""""
So narrow minded
Have they asked if Engler identifies as a women or as one of the other 63 plus genders?
I suppose if he came out as gay, he might be more acceptable to them. Or perhaps he could come out ala Rachel Dolozal and claim he is a black woman.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Dolezal
You know, I'd adore the guy if he claimed to identify as woman.
...then said "you know, women are kinda fucking nuts, aren't we?"
I am so grateful that I am not in university or have children going to university. At this point I think we just need to burn all of academia to the ground and start over.
Public colleges and universities are a perfect example of "School choice". You aren't forced to attend the one assigned to you by some arbitrary district line. You can choose to attend anywhere in the state, and even attend in other states. You can direct your tuition dollars to the school that best serves you.
Perhaps they should re-think their protest.
Maybe we should take away their school choice.
I'd say the school is a bigger problem than the choice at this point.
That level of thought and self-awareness is too much for these snow-flakes.
Are these student-activists an organized group, do they have meetings we can crash to harangue them?
Probably but if you were on campus would you spend your time crashing lame leftist meetings that will only get you brought up on some bogus Title IX charge or drink beer, chase women, smoke pot and listen to loud music?
So you're saying there is a viable Libertarian Party somewhere?
"(Engler's predecessor, Lou Anna Simon, resigned in the wake of the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal.)"
I refute this statement. Lou Anna resigned after, and because of, an ESPN investigation into multiple allegations of protecting student-athletes who have committed sexual assault. The Larry Nassar scandal played a part of it, I am sure. BUT, she resigned THE DAY ESPN's "E60"/"Outside The Lines" story broke. If she resigned because of Larry Nassar, she would have done so months earlier, like when he was indicted, and after his sentencing. Also, the AD resigned the day after she did, which corroborates my version of events. STOP FAKE NEWS NOW!!
Correction: "and after his sentencing" should read "not after his sentencing".
You may be right, but you are taking the phrase "in the wake of" far beyond anything that could be its intending meaning. It pertains to correlation, not causation.
That ESPN story wasn't even that bad. They highlighted a lot of stories that were brought to trial and smushed.
If they aren't expelled post haste, then the Board has no right to whine or cry about anything.
Ah, qualification due to vagina. Good times.
Too bad De Vos is busy.
LOL
Let us all don our pussy hats in homage
Most of the students over the last forty or more years have been brainwashed and been taught that the government can do it better and that they could not succeed without the government succeeding for them. Charter schools are seen as competition for the state operated schools. But competition is bad as has been taught in schools where everybody is to succeed even without trying. So these students are just fulfilling the education that they have been given.
That might why that the previous administration did what he did. The US was succeeding in the competition with the rest of the world mostly because nations business have been hampered by taxes and regulations. Since these other nations hamper their companies the US had to hamper its companies also just make it even. But then the other nations find ways to help their companies which the US don't do. But along comes a non-political person and is elected president of the US and shakes up the world and it hates him for it because he is not playing by their rules. But the US businesses like what he is doing and markets and starts gaining and then the new tax law is passed and suddenly businesses take off like a rocket. The thing about it is it not only the US businesses but those companies that are in other countries. Then when this non-political man gives his view of what the US could be and things start going faster.
But this competition is what these demonstrating students cannot stand.

Are you sure about that Robbie? I am not at all sure that this word salad has anything at all to do with school choice, or whether the speaker had any idea what he was talking about.
True, for all we know he was protesting the return of the McRib.
How dare you.
Yes, being a woman solves everything. Anna Louise Simon kept a firm hand on the athletic department, and Hillary is well known for standing up for her female staff, not to mention her careful avoidance of temperamental displays toward staff and Secret Service, a quality emulated by Michelle Obama. Yes, being a woman solves everything.
