U.S. Border Patrol agents in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, demanded proof of citizenship from all Greyhound Bus passengers and escorted one passenger away with them last Friday. The incident has gotten a lot of attention and anger, but "though immigration inspections on Greyhound buses are not widely publicized, they are not new," notes the Los Angeles Times.

Border Patrol agents routinely conduct such inspections at transportation centers across Florida, the Customs and Border Protection's Miami sector said in a statement Tuesday.

      Hello.

From LA Times second wave feminism article:

"Woof. I agree that Deneuve and Merkin are perilously wrong. Banfield, you can't pay me enough to watch. But these women aren't second-wave feminists. Banfield isn't old enough. Deneuve is French, and that's a whole other kettle of fish. As for Merkin, before her recent essay her name wasn't associated with movement feminism."

Let's start with an insult shall we?

          "Women today are so dumb"

I like it when right-wing authoritarians voluntarily discuss racism, misogyny, gay-bashing, xenophobia, and other forms of stale intolerance.

Mostly because I want most Republican candidates to lose until that party sheds its taste for backwardness and bigotry and recovers its relationship with reason, tolerance, limited government, competence, progress, education, and science.

          1. Quo Usque Tandem   7 years ago

I suspect the comment is tongue in cheek, but regardless one poster to a libertarian website does not a statement make. Regardless, your bias is pretty clear in expressed hopes and allegations as well as your specious desire for "progress" [a word that makes most libertarians suspicious, especially when it is unqualified].

Nonetheless and irregardless of party affiliation, the broomstick riding witch lost, and Trump [like him, tolerate him, or hate him] is filling a record number of judicial vacancies with jurists per support of the Federalist Society, not the ABA. If Kennedy retires this Summer and is replaced with another like Gorsuch, Willet, or Ho, as with other vacancies in the District and Appellate Courts, this will be a nail in the coffin of progressivism that will last for generations. All the more so if Ginsberg fails to wake up from her next SOTU nap.

Now I can only hope the orange haired one shuts down the Department of Education and any number of other useless and intrusive federal bureaucracies and we actually have a government that is more limited and in line with the Constitution, not what some identify politicizing progressive thinks would be "fair." This is not to say that Trump is necessarily the ideal candidate for such a government [he isn't, as he can be just as authoritarian as a Clinton or a Pelosi, Schumer, Feinstain, or any number of other progressive minions. But in the balance it could be a lot worse.

          2. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

It was a joke and clearly served it purpose. To out a left-wing authoritarian for thinking any straying from the lefty narrative deserves swift destruction at any cost.

      1. Rhywun   7 years ago

Assuming you're right - I have never needed ID to get on a bus but it's been a few years - who carries a freaking passport around with them?

      2. Zeb   7 years ago

A driver's license or similar state ID isn't necessarily proof of citizenship.

Also, it's absurd that you need to identify yourself to ride on a bus.

        1. Agammamon   7 years ago

Apparently, at the border, white skin and a driver's license are proof enough - based on my own experience.

Yawn. Drivers in the Southwest were being randomly stopped at checkpoints since at least the 1970's and no one seemed to care. At some point they decided to cut out the suspense and make them all permanent. Since the entire state of Florida falls within the "100 air mile" exemption to the 4th Amendment established by scotus, the BP can stop anyone anywhere. Deal with it.

      1. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

You guys stop for those things? As I drive thru any domestic checkpoints, I throw a pocket copy of the constitution from Cato Institute at them, give them the finger, and laugh and laugh.

I feel I'm woefully unqualified to judge who the "best people" are in general. I would imagine that arbitrarily judging the worth of entire groups of people is a large part of why there's such a demand for jobs like immigration enforcers and drug warriors.

Although I will concede, I find those jobs to often be morally dubious.

When President Donald Trump takes the stage at the World Economic Forum summit in Davos, Switzerland, on Friday, he'll be addressing a group committed to globalism and less receptive to his message of nationalism and protectionism.

How hard a line Mr. Trump draws remains to be seen, but an early warning came just this week, when his administration stirred controversy by imposing tariffs on imported solar panels and washing machines.

Garrison Keillor is the absolute worst.

And we can't have people saying that other people are attractive.

By all accounts he can be a dick, but I quite like Keillor (politics aside). He's a clever and talented writer and I like his sense of humor.

So, in addition to beers that taste awful, you also like "entertainment" that assiduously avoids being entertaining?

        1. Zeb   7 years ago

          I knew that was coming.

I like all my entertainment to be as boring as possible.

Zeb's favorite song is "whatever's on the radio, but turned way down" and his favorite tv show is PBS pledge drives.

            1. Zeb   7 years ago

              This is my favorite song.

Rapper 50 Cent is allegedly sitting on $7 to $8.5 million in Bitcoin after becoming one of the first mainstream musicians to accept the cryptocurrency as album payment, for 2014's "Animal Ambition."

He is also considering changing his name to 5,000 Satoshi.

Russia bars 'extremist' British comedy The Death of Stalin

The Russian release of British comedy film The Death of Stalin has been shelved following a screening before senior figures on Monday night.

The Russian attendees complained that the satire contained "ideological warfare" and "extremism".

The film's distribution certificate was withdrawn, effectively cancelling its planned Thursday release.

It is not clear if the film, starring Steve Buscemi and Jeffrey Tambor, will be shown in Russia at all

"Immigration raids yield to unconstitutional practices that can violate the right to equal protection and the Fourth Amendment by coercing vulnerable individuals to submit to interrogations about their citizenship and immigration status, conducting unreasonable searches and seizure and targeting people of color," the [ACLU] said.

You know, this crap makes the rest of us angry too. No need to pile on the histrionics.

I think we need someone like a Rosa Parks to tell the CPB "Not without a warrant, motherfucker" when they illegally demand ID without any reasonable suspicion.

    Fiddy-Cent is a Bitcoin millionaire

'How did you make a million dollars with Bitcoin Fiddy?'

    'Oh, that's easy - I started with ten million . . . "

Lesson the third: Although second-wave feminism was racist in the sense that its public faces were predominantly white

    LOL

    1. Citizen X - #6   7 years ago

That's... that's not what "racist" means.
