The Gen X vs. Millennials War Over #MeToo
Ashleigh Banfield's fight with babe reporter Katie Way is the latest manifestation of an interesting generational divide.

On Wednesday, in case you missed it, Headline News anchor Ashleigh Banfield, who had previously been critical of the decision by a website called babe to publish the anonymous and graphic tale of a young woman's disquieting sexual experience with comedian Aziz Ansari, read and responded to a pissy and insulting email she received from babe reporter Katie Way:
Way's note is like a parody of everything you hate about young Millennials and/or Generation Z. Sample:
I hope the ~500 RTs on the single news write-up made that burgundy lipstick bad highlights second-wave feminist has-been feel really relevant for a little while. She DISGUSTS me, and I hope when she has more distance from the moment she has enough of a conscience left to feel remotely ashamed — doubt it, but still….I would NEVER go on your network. I would never even watch your network. No woman my age would ever watch your network. I will remember this for the rest of my career — I'm 22 and so far, not too shabby! And I will laugh the day you fold.
Banfield, being my age, is nobody's second-wave feminist, but fact-checking such sub-Trumpian blurtage feels like arm-wrestling a toddler, so let's make a broader observation: This is hardly the only generational spat within the #MeToo conversation.
Take the Caitlin Flanagan rebuke to babe in The Atlantic. The piece begins with this confession:
Sexual mores in the West have changed so rapidly over the past 100 years that by the time you reach 50, intimate accounts of commonplace sexual events of the young seem like science fiction: You understand the vocabulary and the sentence structure, but all of the events take place in outer space. You're just too old.
Or the "schism" within The New York Times over what to do about the clumsy or unforgivably line-crossing (depending on your point of view) romantic fumblings by political reporter Glenn Thrush, as reported by Vanity Fair:
On one side, according to newsroom sources, there is a cohort of young, millennial, New York-based employees for whom the event has been particularly upsetting. These employees, these sources note, are generationally hyper-attuned to issues related to race, gender, and newsroom diversity, which they often discuss on the Times's internal Slack app. For some within this cohort, there's a sentiment that the Times should set an example amid our cultural awakening—that it would be hard to keep Thrush employed while continuing to lead the charge in covering the reckoning that has entangled him.
Things are different in the Washington bureau.
Gen Xer and spouse-of-Reason-person Megan McArdle wrote this week about the #MeToo generational divide, stressing the older cohort's main complaint: The notion of agency:
I have now had dozens of conversations about #MeToo with women my age or older, all of which are some variant on "What the hey?" It's not that we're opposed to #MeToo; we are overjoyed to see slime like Harvey Weinstein flushed out of the woodwork, and the studio system. But we see sharp distinctions between Weinstein and guys who press aggressively -- embarrassingly, adulterously -- for sex. To women in their 20s, it seems that distinction is invisible, and the social punishments demanded for the latter are scarcely less than those meted out for forcible rape.
There's something else we notice, something that seems deeply connected to these demands for justice: These women express a feeling of overwhelming powerlessness, even though they are not being threatened, either physically or economically. How has the most empowered generation of women in all of human history come to feel less control over their bodies than their grandmothers did?
As ever during generational battles, the most interesting voices are often the ones pitched in between—so at Reason, Elizabeth Nolan Brown; at The Daily Beast, Erin Gloria Ryan (these thirtysomethings and their three names!). I interviewed the latter yesterday on Sirius XM, and she made an intriguing age-based sex claim: Basically, dudes born after 1987 expect their sex lives to imitate porn; the older ones not so much. Millennial gals walk into situations expecting empowerment, and instead get the equivalent of perpetually adolescent boys.
I don't know how true any of that is, though I will say that before I closed out of the gross babe essay about halfway through, I recognized in Asnari's reported behavior something similar to how divorced Gen X friends of mine describe wading back into the dating pool after a decade-plus away—it can be, especially when enabled through dating/hookup apps, almost shockingly transactional, mechanical, contractual.
Then again, by the time you approach 50, intimate accounts of routine sexytime seem like science fiction….

No, it's not interesting at all.
Oooh, clever.
He's right, it wasn't interesting. I seriously doubt that the juvenile rant by Katie Way is truly representative of the generational divide.

I can't wait to see what gems Double Dummy comes up with for this one.
I hear everything is funny if you stick a Weigel on it.
Weigel would be a good name for a pitbull. Then, the next time Simple Mikey threatens you, you can warn him away with ease.
Only a cosmo sipping Block Yomomma supporter would say something like that.
These employees, these sources note, are generationally hyper-attuned to issues related to race, gender, and newsroom diversity,
IOW they turned out exactly as planned by the education establishment. Well done!
1) Ashleigh Banfield looks amazing at 50.
2)
I'm sorry, Matt. Have you considered role playing? I hear good things about nun role play.
3) Who cares about this when there are new Shirtless Putin photos today?
1) Ashleigh Banfield looks amazing at 50.
That's why she's on TV and we're not. I don't know what Welch's excuse is.
Welch is a handsome guy and has been known to grace TV screens from time to time. Though why he hasn't landed a Netflix special yet is beyond me.
I knew Welch was on TV. THAT WAS THE JOKE.
Have you seen very many Netflix specials? It seems there's an unwritten requirement for them to be left-leaning. I just watched Katt Williams and was having flashbacks to my Comedy Central watching days. Only difference is now I understand that his primary goal is to influence his audience to think the way he does. I can see why people who watch this stuff regularly have a tenuous grasp on reality. My brother is one of them.
I was pretty astonished to see First They Killed My Father on Netflix. It pretty much shows you exactly how communism works, no whitewashing. Go see it if you haven't.
Most of the comedy specials seem to start with at least ten minutes of Trump hate before the funny starts.
I blame the Comedy Channel for the death of comedy.
I think someone at Netflix who greenlights shows didn't understand what the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia was about.
They were distracted when told communist Vietnam were the good guys.

Yes. Would.
In a heartbeat. Though I miss the glasses.
Young people tilt left (and always have) - that's all this is, except turned up to 11 by having received a lifetime of leftist propaganda in their school years. Most of them will mature and become less stupid with age.
They aren't likely to change political worldviews, but righteous anger and single-mindedness do tend to settle down with age, unless you're Bernie Sanders.
"Most" didn't mean "you"
Yes, they do change their world views which is why they become more conservative.
They also realize that what they thought early in life was wrong or inaccurate and adjust accordingly.
Its why some non-entrepreneurs complain until they run a business and understand how that works.
Happened to me.
If by world views you mean economic maturity (and role changing from takers to makers) then, yes--duh.
Tony|1.19.18 @ 12:35PM|#
"They aren't likely to change political worldviews,"
"Science", Tony? Or stupidity?
That's exactly what's happening. These older women have enough experience in the real world that they can't just disregard what they know in this case of cognitive dissonance. The young ones have no experience, only idealism from public school alternative-fact conditioning. They are the ones who think affirmative consent is a good idea because they don't know how sex works.
Heterosexuals, sigh. Say what you will about Kevin Spacey or kid-diddlign priests, at least we can tell when it's rape-rape.
Do young men really go into the sex market looking for internet porn experiences? Are young women really so uninterested in sex that it seems like the whole endeavor is a giant chore for them?
Young men are in general terrible at putting a woman into the mood and, more importantly, maintaining the mood. Then, when they finally race through to the final act, it's over before it started. That's why older men are the way to go. Ladies.
So young men are getting their ideas about how sex should be from porn, and young women are getting it from...? Vampire books I guess?
Tony, all education should come from government.
Mass media, which tells them that they will be happy with the dork next door who has a good heart and will cherish them day after day. When in reality, they want to be (metaphorically) grabbed by the pussy by the rock star who swiped right on tinder and constrained affection to saying 'DTF Meet me after the show.'
I'm skeptical of MeToo's excesses too, but this "Why won't girls fuck ugly, unhygienic men like me, it's unfair!!" MRA stuff is no help.
Meanwhile, the older ladies read 50 shades of grey and have no illusions about what turns them on. That book/series alone is probably a big reason for this divide described in the article.
"So young men are getting their ideas about how sex should be from porn, and young women are getting it from...? Vampire books I guess?"
That doesn't seem too far off the mark. And frankly, the vampire book part was true even for Gen Xer's.
So young men are getting their ideas about how sex should be from porn, and young women are getting it from...? Vampire books I guess?
Doesn't anyone get it from experience anymore??
"That's why older men are the way to go. Ladies." That begs a new hash tag for women who have the sense to realize this: #metooadvance
Well yeah if you're paying for it at the sex market.
My feeling about this, (and many things) is, "why the fuck does anyone give these idiots the time of day"?
i don't think a b-list comedian's awkward sex life is interesting.
I'm no expert, but tearing down a woman you disagree with by attacking her makeup and hair choices seems decidedly unfeminist to me. This Katie Way sounds like a 4 year old having a temper tantrum.
Also, I hope I am not the only one pretty much terrified by the rise of the thought police. Am I overreacting, or do these people seem to want to throw anyone guilty of CrimeThink into camps where everyone is forced to dig holes and sprint constantly?
They haven't come out and said it yet, but they will eventually. In the last few years it seems they just can't help themselves from ripping the mask off.
Am I overreacting, or do these people seem to want to throw anyone guilty of CrimeThink into camps where everyone is forced to dig holes and sprint constantly?
You're overreacting. Sprinting and digging holes will only be done intermittently as part of the WOD, otherwise it will lead to over-specialization.
standing applause
into camps where everyone is forced to dig holes and sprint constantly?
If your goal is tackling the obesity epidemic, this might be even better than the Venezuela diet.
...made that burgundy lipstick bad highlights second-wave feminist has-been
Any chance we could get a comma somewhere in this blurtage? (Thanks Matt. I learned a new word today )
"I'm no expert, but tearing down a woman you disagree with by attacking her makeup and hair choices seems decidedly unfeminist to me."
All right. I am an expert on women, among other things. Feminist hatred for men pales in comparison to their hatred for other women. Their most powerful weapon is to slutify their rival. It is a primal response that probably dates to our simian ancestors. They are completely oblivious to any contradiction to their stated beliefs. While baffling to the male, this makes perfect sense to the feminist and her supporters. The wise man remains aloof in these situations unless one of the parties is his significant other, in which case he mouths short supportive words and comments in her defense. If both women are present he must leave the room immediately or they will both turn on him. You do not want to be that guy, trust me.
Absolutely. Tell a feminist you'd eventually like to be a stay at home mom and listen to the crickets of support. My friends and I feel like we need to whisper about 'those' kind of radical ideas. Now, tell a feminist you're letting your child choose their own gender.... Feminism is in its own sense patriarchy but hidden behind a girl gang attitude. They just want to be in control of other women. I've come to the conclusion that feminism = women who want all women to be as fucked up as they are and offer total judgement of women who want to go the traditional route.
That's just it. All of this helicopter parent, participation trophy, feel good bull shit basically stunts the maturation of children. She sounds like a 4 year old because now at 22 she hasn't developed the maturity to behave otherwise. These are children who aren't prepared to face reality and they've never had to handle any modicum of criticism because mom and dad dealt with all the buzz harshing mean people.
Just like the 23 year old "Grace" who went on a date with 50% older Aziz presumably looking for a little cultural appropriation and was offended by white wine. Granted we don't know what the original question was but it is clear that she didn't know how to answer. She could have responded to almost any question with, "oh, I would love a glass of red wine" which would have set the expectation. Instead she probably went with "sure" which abdicates any personal responsibility and doesn't usually get you what you want. Obviously she simply wasn't mature enough to even try to take any control or responsibility in the situation. Perhaps she wasn't aware that her parents weren't going to be there through the entire encounter. Equally clear is that she didn't watch IISuperwomanII's educational video first.
I'm not clear on this. In what way are younger dudes expecting life to imitate art?
dudes born after 1987 expect their sex lives to imitate porn
When I read this line, the first thing that came to mind was an 80s era male chauvinist, who's life actually kinda-sorta did immitate porn, saying, "Psh. Broads, amIright?"
Every generation of male since then has been overwhelmingly more brooding, introverted, and self-deprecating in the pursuit of sex. Women, on the other hand, have increasingly blamed men. Even labeling their waves of self-promotion and overtly one-upping each other.
They expect themselves to have unusually large dicks and women to have pre-lubricated assholes?
As someone who's mystified at how much the 'of-by-and-for women' porn movement resembles 'male gaze' porn in plot, subject, production, and consumption, I'm a bit mystified as well.
Given the supposed rise of women watching girl-girl porn and the discussions surrounding it, it sounds less like women don't despise the expectations set by porn stars as much as they just despise men.
This is kinda what I meant a while back when I said I've grown exceedingly tired of the "No one knows how to please a woman like a woman." narrative.
Given the supposed rise of women watching girl-girl porn and the discussions surrounding it, it sounds less like women don't despise the expectations set by porn stars as much as they just despise men.
Notably, 2-3 decades ago, male porn could be quintessentially identified by 'the money shot' as women were definitively known not to ejaculate and now, 'of-by-and-for women' porn frequently features female ejaculation (with all biological testing of ejaculate finding nothing resembling actual ejaculate and very much resembling urine or exogenous lubricating products).
Seems you've done some in depth research on this subject. I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.
I bet these young male kidlings walk into the bedroom expecting to get a threesome just by asking.
Women don't always think long term.
Punishing men for everything men do (like trying get laid) will ultimately lead men to find alternatives. Female Robots, prostitutes, and women on the side.
This sex war will end badly for women. Women still don't like that there are sluts readily available for men, so we men don't always have to put up with women's demands.
All women have to do is band together and stop being slutty. Women could all go back to not having sex with men until men marry them. For some reason they don't.
Clearly lesbian dynamics are a bit different and this does not apply to gay guys.
I think the withholding idea has been around since at least 4`` BC, check out Lysistrata.
Many women who identify as "feminist" perpetually use their "I can do this too" male-like behavior as the primary metric to gauge their "empowerment."
Never mind the glaring contradiction there. "#metoo" could easily be repurposed to take on a whole different meaning.
If such a collective behavior modification were possible, then communism would be possible.
All it takes is one deviant to ruin it for everybody.
Well, thankfully at least one alternative to women is women.
At least non-woke women.
Also, they always be shoppin', am i right?
Men shop too.
Gen Xer and spouse-of-Reason-person Megan McArdle wrote this week about the #MeToo generational divide, stressing the older cohort's main complaint: The notion of agency:
Yeah, you older people were just sitting around innocently being the perfect models of freedom and choice, then my generation came along and invented communism, welfare, and fascism and forced you all into becoming helicopter parents and corrupt, statist politicians. Sorry, our bad.
ok, maybe the sarcasm was a little much there. But seriously, why does one idiot 22 year old girl's tweet have to turn into "OMG GENERATIONAL DIVIDE, GRR THOSE MILLENIALS"
Twitter
Own it. It's called responsibility. Now get off my lawn.
When libertarians make collective generalizations, it should go without saying that we're talking about averages and trends, and being part of a social group does not doom you to conformity.
"But seriously, why does one idiot 22 year old girl's tweet have to turn into "OMG GENERATIONAL DIVIDE, GRR THOSE MILLENIALS""
I agree that this shouldn't be used as a Generational example. The girl is a nit wit.
I don't know, I thought there was quite a bit of supporting evidence and supplementary articles beyond the Katie Way opening example, although I kinda think just coming into contact with female millennials - in the workplace, on social media, wherever - should be enough evidence to back the claims of some sort of generational divide. I agree with being a little confused by the agency quote though and older women concluding that young women feel less in control of our bodies than our grandmas felt over their own. I mean, this is an era of "My body, my choice," more risqu? clothing than could have been worn a few generations ago, and posting provocative pictures of yourself online for the world to see. It feels like most of these younger women are more concerned that they don't have control over everyone else's thoughts/actions than they are worried that they don't have control over their own bodies, which I guess goes along with our generation's supposed love of socialism and goodthink and all that. Regardless of whether older women profiled us correctly or not, the article by McArdle was really good, boiled it all down to personal responsibility.
Yeah, you really fucked that up.
Well, if the millennial/GenY/Z womyn are this freaked out about sex, maybe they will never reproduce!
Except for their apparent terminal fear of explicitly saying "no" when they do not want to do something sexual may save the species.
That's what abortions are for
The guy's a comedian. His jokes were so bad it was like rape.
We found the breaking point. Don't talk about my highlights and lipstick, bitch. Now the gloves are coming off.
You understand the vocabulary and the sentence structure...
If you're lucky even that.
That quote from Katie Way was quite painful to read.
This person actually writes for a living?
Pretty sure Babe's business model is publishing the most outrageous yellow journalism possible and then rolling in those clicks.
In other words, Reason and Babe share a journalistic ethos.
Be fair. Reason's commentariat is much more perverted.
I find soap operas hard to follow.
Katie Way's e-tantrum was a showcase for how so much worse millennials are than Generation X or Boomers or any of those before and possibly after. Shabbily written, lacking self awareness, entitled. And the "reporter's" original piece wasn't even in the same time zone as journalism. And I can think of little more just than this being the catalyst for bringing the #MeToo juggernaut to a screeching, shrieking halt.
amen
She beclowned herself with her blurtage.
Katie Way's marvellous wit reminds me of Anna Merlan.
How has the most empowered generation of women in all of human history come to feel less control over their bodies than their grandmothers did?
Because there's power in victimhood, so much more than in personal agency. The mob is stronger than the individual. And some women thrive on sympathy, so toss in a little Munchausen and you have a recipe for exaggerated claims and witch hunts.
Woe to the next generation of starlets. No more sleeping your way into parts. The current crop of relatively young but yet aging actresses has seen to that.
Do you even woke bro?
And it is no coincidence that Generation Whine, at least in workplaces and on college campuses, has contempt for protections of the individual from the tyranny of the majority. They fundamentally oppose the foundation of liberal democracy and intellectual inquiry.
And yet, they enjoy all the fruits from what they vehemently oppose with all their reflexive hashtagging and boutique activism.
Exhibit A: free speech on campus.
Exhibit B: #metoo
Exhibit C: Title IX
Exhibit D: dimwits running around with graduate degrees
Need em for jobs. It's an arms race out there no one wants but an arms race nonetheless.
" no one wants "
If that were true, everyone would just get the cheapest degree they could from the local state school.
Oh some people like that arms race - colleges.
Sell degrees for many times what the fair market value would be and indoctrinate America's youth with lefty nonsense.
Grom wjat I have heard in relation to this is that the fe2sr of earning a reputation of being easy has been replaced by a fear of being labeled a cocktease.
One would think at the very least there is a mental if not actual list being cultivated of ladies to stay all the way away from.
I'm making $86 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbor told me she was averaging $95 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm my own boss. This is what I do

#youtoo!
It's time to put the children to bed and let thinking adults take the reigns on this issue.
I'm pretty sure the last adult died of old age sometime in the '90s.
Old age, or incredulity?
ZING!!!!
Good one. That elicited a wry chuckle from me.
Watch out for the "ageism" brigade.
There's something else we notice, something that seems deeply connected to these demands for justice: These women express a feeling of overwhelming powerlessness, even though they are not being threatened, either physically or economically. How has the most empowered generation of women in all of human history come to feel less control over their bodies than their grandmothers did?
I still like Camille Paglia's view of modern (fourth/fifth/3d chess feminism-- whatever it's called). It's the feminism if privilege and upper-middle class sensibilities.
"Oh my goodness, he whistled at me, I have never felt so violated in my life!"
As she explains (in her broken field-running way), it's the feminism that comes from a class that's been protected and shielded all its life, it's the feminism that has no sense of history.
It's the feminism that has no sense....
Literally.
Or biology. I like Paglia's commentary on this as well.
I agree the #metoo stuff is made up of real complaints liberally mixed in with melting snowflake reactions like the quote.
However, Camille Paglia is a pull-up-the-ladder-behind-me feminist.
Rather than treat "Katie Way vs. Ashleigh Banfield" as news, i think the more interesting media-conflict of the past week was the Jordan Peterson vs. BBC Cathy Newman debate
the former kerfuffle makes standard news talking-head sound like good-guy.
the latter makes news people look like the same blinkered morons that Katie Way is.
Has Robby already labeled peterson 'alt-right'? i think the odds are yes. if anyone knows, link me.
We're all 'alt-right' now.
ENB called him "controversial" but I don't hold that against ENB, because people do find the view that men and women express different traits and make different choices as controversial.
What I found funny was that he gets called "controversial" in the same sentence where a professor of Gender studies who believes there are no biological differences between men and women is mentioned.
that remains hilarious.
That 'men and women are actually different', and that compelled pronouns are both stupid and totalitarian, was pretty much "accepted reality" up until maybe 4 years ago.
Hold those views now, you're considered a troglodyte demanding we all return to the caves.
I was going to link to that, but I didn't think anyone would want to watch 30 minutes of someone shoving words into another person's mouth.
after the 500th, 'So what you're *really* saying is, [insert idiotic feminist caricature]...." it does get a bit tiresome.
He has incredible patience. which i think is her ultimate undoing: her tactics ultimately rely on the other person breaking down and calling her a dumb cunt, whereupon she can strut and declare victory.
He is one of the most patient people I've ever seen. It's sometimes hard to watch because people are pounding on him with shrill tones doing exactly what she does in this interview, and he calmly and politely sits there and refutes their logic. It's hard for me to watch.
I so want someone to edit that interview replacing Newman with a shrill Python-in-drag screaming, "YOU WANT TO RAPE ME, DON'T YOU?!?"
It's worth sitting through, if only as an example of how not to get flustered by someone else's hostile line of questioning and obtuseness. He calmly explains his positions while she keeps looking like an aggressive imbecile who purposely misconstrues his every answer.
Obtuse doesn't begin to describe her.
Gen X? Ashleigh is 50, or so the article says. Technically that makes her Gen X, but she's really in between the boomers and the genexers. I would not consider her representative of Gen X for purposes of the Grand War between generations.
That's gen x. It's on the early side, but it's definitely genx. I mean, she watched Breakfast Club in theaters. If that doesn't make you Gen X, I don't know what does.
I watched Breakfast Club in theaters. I just watched it when I was in college instead of in high school. That makes me a boomer.
I watched Breakfast Club in the theater. The way I defined it was that since my parents were among the first boomers, I was Gen X.
I mean, for chrissakes, Kevin Smith is about to turn 48, and he's the Patron Saint of Gen X.
Kevin Smith is the Patron Saint of Shants - that's about it.
All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little, whiny bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who is makin' the movie... we're gonna make them eat our shit, then shit out our shit, and then eat their shit that's made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you motherfucks are next.
Love- Jay and Silent Bob.
+1 Morris Day and the Motherfucking Time.
I have no idea who Kevin Smith is.
A talented filmmaker of the GenX persuasion. His movies have never done it for me, but dude is good at what he does.
1967 is pretty solidly Gen X - I see as early as 1961 used, though that seems a bit too early to me. 1965 seems a pretty popular starting year, which would neatly encompass all of my siblings (1965,1968,1970,1973), so that works for me.
These things are, of course, arbitrary.
People listed as the best 'Gen X' filmmakers (sorry Kevin Smith, you didn't make the cut) are:
Tarantino, Age 54
Soderberg, Age 55
Wes Anderson, Age 48
All Gen X people need to do is come to grips with the fact that yes, you're now old. Me included.
1963 for those first two - that seems to be pushing it, but I suppose. Anderson is One Of Us, clearly.
Exactly. I mean, "They" say Gen X extends out to 1981. There's no doubt that someone born in 1979 is going to have some fairly different childhood experiences than someone born in 1963, but yeah, if you don't think Wes Anderson isn't a Gen X filmmaker, I'd say you're not paying attention.
The left out element with generational monikers is what generation you parents were.
I'm a Gen X with Greatest Gen parents, so my experience was very different than some of my gen Xers with older Boomer parents. My father was 56 years old when I graduated from high school as opposed to my peers which had late 30's parents.
Excellent point - my parents were Korean War era / Silent Generation (and paycheck-to-not-quite-paycheck - "frugal", let's say). My friends with younger parents had a different experience growing up.
20 years between gens makes things easy and its a general stereotype deal. Technically the Greatest Gen started making Boomers when coming back from WWII in 1944. Sometimes I see generation periods of 15 years.
But yeah Boomers are elderly and Gen Xers are getting old now.
You don't have to tell me - my eyes are for shit now and my hearing on the high-end is just gone, apparently (I made that latter discovery at a concert - all I could hear was the bass, no lyrics). That is some bullshit right there. Faster with all the medical breakthroughs (fellow) nerds!
I'm lame because I wear earplugs to concerts. Allows me to still keep some of my hearing after years of military jobs with noise exceeding 80dB +.
The fun part of boomerhood is learning to trust physicians who aren't old enough to be your children.
I still race BMX so fuck that nonsense.
I'm what is called a "late boomer". I'm Nick's age. We were at the tail end of the boomers. Too late for psychodelics, too early for grunge, we had to settle for disco or heavy metal. But most demographics put us in the boomer camp.
I think of Gen-X as that generation that went through their formative years being told that Reagan was going to sell them into slavery. I had to listen to that nonsense in college, they got it through their elementary and high school years.
The salient points of my childhood were:
- we're all going to die in nuclear fire, due to that dunce Reagan
- AIDS is an equal opportunity killer and heterosexual sex is just as risky as anything else - i.e., sex will kill you
Those two "facts" (along with a lot of P.J. O'Rourke) shaped much of my political thinking, no doubt.
I came along with:
-If you vote for Goldwater we'll end up at war in Vietnam
-You'll be okay as long as you duck and cover
-Nuclear power will be so cheap they won't even meter it
I don't recall anyone asking you.
I don't recall telling you to read my post.
Guys are horny bastards to begin with, and when they're horny, blood rushes AWAY from their head. So when they miss nonverbal cues, especially when she's sending mixed signals, it isn't worth publishing a story about. Especially when you know what that could mean in today's climate.
That isn't generational unless you're being an asshole.
I love girl fights !!!
Is this tripe newsworthy?
Aren't "tripe" and "newsworthy" synonyms anymore?
" To women in their 20s, it seems that distinction is invisible, and the social punishments demanded for the latter are scarcely less than those meted out for forcible rape."
This is why men in their 20's are living in mom's basement playing video games and watching porn. A.The culture treats them like predators simply for being male. Who wants to wade into that shit? B.If they're unable to hook up, get married and have kids, what's the point in working your ass off when you can get video games and porn working part time at Taco Bell?
At some point women in their 20's will be women in their late 30's and their biological clocks will demand attention. And they'll wonder why they're still childless. President Elizabeth Warren will sign an executive order expanding Sanderscare to include free artificial insemination for all. But we're gonna need a whole lotta immigrants to pay the bill.
Some day women will realize that men do most things because of women. If you treat your main admirers like shit, why would they continue to pursue you?
As you say, its not worth the risk to wade into the shit. Knee-jerk reactions are making sex offenders out of teenagers just doing what we used to do 30 years ago.

This is already happening. And the sad part is, by the time these women are ready to settle down, they'll have to deal with 40 & 50 somethings who will probably have some kind of baggage - divorce, kids. Because all the men their age whom they vilified will finally be ready to settle down, too, and will do it with women who are much younger.
Women are using their sexual power completely the wrong way. Right now, they're using it to victimize themselves (I'm not talking about true victims of sexual assault and rape.) And what do they get in return? A me too hashtag and to lay their head on some sultry brunette's shoulder while creating an unhealthy dialogue about sex hence leading to real deal, sexually frustrated and angry men. Women think sex and sexual advances are either good or bad. But life doesn't work that way in any field. Sometimes there are feelings of regret, anxiety, depression, guilt...and that doesn't mean someone took advantage of you. It means you willingly put yourself in a position that now, you don't necessarily care for. Doesn't that realization lead to growth?
This is the nub. And it's no surprise. The conceit has been that all men are rapists. A penis is an offensive weapon. The Washington Monument is a phallic symbol. What once would have been laughable is now mainstream thought in the intellectual and educational classes. They've been hammering it into the heads of kids for a couple of decades now. And they've been taught that there is essentially no difference between a wolfish leer and vagina-ripping rape. Just like they've been taught harsh words carry the same weight as an act of physical aggression.
We reap what we sow. Welcome to the jungle.

I've hit forty homers in the two years (the youngest of which was 33) since my divorce and am approaching fifty so I disagree with the sentiment about being too old.

And talking about your conquests is an old game.
Don't get back 14 years in just one day
I sincerely believe it all could have been so very different -- so much better -- between men and women. Maybe there's still hope. See:

This may be the most thorough analysis you can find of what I think has for many decades been the sexes' most alienating and destructive behavioral difference. I believe this difference results in much of what is called sexual coercion of women.
She was so desperate for a real date with a celebrity that she was willing to put up with anything?
At 57, I don't expect my sex to be porn flick-like,...I WISH it was porn flick like, but I just don't expect it to be...
At 57 I have no idea what to expect anymore in the dating game.
I had a first date last night with a woman who made me grateful I wore the wrong glasses to the date, and I'm pretty sure she still thought she was a lithe 22 year old. The only explanation I could come up with for her attitude is that she must have eaten a couple of lithe 22 year old women on her way to our table.

the Times should set an example amid our cultural awakening
Is that anything like a cultural revolution?
How has the most empowered generation of women in all of human history come to feel less control over their bodies than their grandmothers did?
Helicopter parenting isn't empowering.
Every 22 year old is an intellectual and emotional retard.
Seriously, can we just ask anyone over 30 to rate their own self at 22? Why do we even pretend to listen to anyone at that age?
I've met plenty 22 year olds I'd rather talk to than self righteous "i've got the answer to everything" 32 year olds. Wisdom doesn't really know an age, it only knows wisdom.
It used to be that 20-somethings had to build careers and that they couldn't publish every fart and turd on Instagram and Twitter. That's been changed by welfare, free education, and the Internet.
Reading that McCardle piece and reflecting on all of this, I can't help but think that a minority (perhaps larger than I once thought, but still a minority) of people who's behavior ranges from criminal to deviant to just plain rude are being held up as typical, while the majority of adults go about dating and sex in a fairly mature manner. Tinder only has something like 50 million users *world wide*.
But maybe at 34 I just don't know what these kids are really into.
Stop bagging on tender. If you are in decent shape and not a mutant you can basically get laid every weekend without commitment and with minimal effort. I would call that win-win. Remember to bag it though if you want to be able to reuse it later.
The end result of be men that, as a group, will decide that women are no longer "worth it" and will only meet with them for anonymous, prearranged sex, and on their terms. She leaves immediately after. Enter the sexbot, where the uncanny valley is the size of the Grand Canyon, and yet people are lining up to get one, and the increase in mail-order brides from counties where feminism isn't the hateful beast that it is here.
Women have made themselves into monster; becoming ever more demanding, judgemental, irate, and generally bitchy all the time. Apparently, the lack of men interested in this type of person is, again, all the fault of men, who are supposed to change into a spineless slave, never questioning that what a woman feels at any instant might not be the truth of the universe and infinitely more important than a man's feelings, or even reality.
The backlash isn't coming, it's already here.
It is already here. In the dating game, men hold power in their age. They can pretty much settle down any time. Women held sexual power in making men wait it out a bit but we blew that. So while millennial men are taking a beating right now, they're stock will go up once they reach 30 +. And guess who they won't be going after? Lori Gottlieb wrote about dating in a book called 'marry him: the case for settling (book title sounds pathetic but she's spot on about dating dynamics) and has a chapter called 'how feminism fucked up my love life.' I seriously wonder what she thinks about the #metoo movement and how it's effecting the dating environment.
Feminists have gotten to the point that they understand absolutely NOTHING about men, males or hell, even older women.
It's one thing to speak out the truth about rapists and sexual harassment. It's quite another to equate rapists to people who made a pass at you while you're on a date, which is what a lot of these MeToo people seem to be doing. There is a difference between justice and a witch hunt. People need to take one step back and stop the witch hunt.
No, little babe, the problem is that kids today are sexually repressed and emotionally immature. See, your elders were sexually more adventuresome than you and were big sluts. But when they had a bad sexual experience, they didn't go whining around it on Twitter or call for big government to make it alright. Grow up, babe!
The young women I know are all at least salvageable and some of them are doing great. The older ones - especially the parents - are a gaggle of c()nt.
These people have all lost their minds. As an older millennial even most of my friends my age are like WTF about most of this shit. My slightly older young Gen X friends even more so. I swear to god if the western world keeps getting more and more insane I may well just up and move to Asia somewhere someday, or maybe convert to Islam (easy since I'm not religious now anyway!) and move to Saudi Arabia and stack up a half dozen wives. And beat them all horribly, not because I'm a mean guy, but just because I can to make up for all the stupid I had to endure in America my whole life. LOL
I can see what your saying... Raymond `s article is surprising, last week I bought a top of the range Acura from making $4608 this-past/month and-a little over, $10,000 this past month . with-out any question its the easiest work I've ever had . I began this five months/ago and almost straight away startad bringin in minimum $82 per-hr

If I was a young guy today I think I'd stick my atheism in the closet, move to Utah, and hang with the Mormons.
Do you understand how nuts the left are when they make Mormonism look like an attractive alternative? Plus, I hear that the Mormons have come around on caffeine. Coffee is good.
Or, when you're at a cafe in a lefty part of town where all the employees have nose rings, too many tattoos, and bad social skills and you think, "I just want to live in Chic-Fil-A right now."
Because they allowed their brains to be taken over by the proggy feminist cultural marxism. They are not individuals with ideas, they are "agents of change" or group actors, or whatever the fuck title you give them, which denotes acting under group dictates. Or as Patrice O'Neal called it, the Pussy Mafia.
