Today Adam Kokesh Filed Papers Seeking the Libertarian Presidential Nomination. Then He Was Arrested on Drug Charges.
Adam Kokesh, longtime anarcho-libertarian activist who first came to public prominence with Iraq Veterans Against the War in 2007 and was later a big Ron Paul supporter, today filed the paperwork necessary to officially seek the U.S. presidency. He is hoping for the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination.

He also had his RV pulled over twice by Texas police, and was arrested the second time.
A video of the second pullover that led to the arrest can be found on Facebook (and is embedded below). It shows highway patrol officers instructing Kokesh to shut off his camera at the point a police dog, off-camera, was said to have "alerted" to the RV. Kokesh was pulled over for driving 74 in a 65 zone, according to one officer in the video.
According to the Texas ACLU, the police do not have the right to demand a citizen stop videotaping willy-nilly though they have the loophole I'm sure they'd summon here regarding "truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement operations." The ACLU notes that "Professional officers, however, realize that such operations are subject to public scrutiny, including by citizens photographing them."
Jacob Sullum at Reason in a classic 2013 cover story demolished the probity of the "dog alert=suspension of Fourth Amendment rights" line of thought and practice.
A spokeswoman for the Wise County Jail confirms Kokesh is in their custody on four charges, one related to possession of under two ounces of marijuana, two related to possession of another controlled substance she was not able to specify, and one for "tampering and/or fabricating evidence with intent to impair" a police investigation. He will likely be arraigned and have bond set tomorrow.
Ben Farmer, the Kokesh campaign's chief strategist, says in an email that "we don't know any more than you do at this time about the charges or the circumstances of his arrest. We do find it suspicious that Adam was pulled over twice within an hour of formally announcing his candidacy for President. Particularly, since he just came off of a 4 month, cross-country tour in the same vehicle without being pulled over once the entire time."
I reported on one of Kokesh's previous brushes with the law, based on videotaping himself with legally forbidden weapons on federal property, back in 2014. He got off with two years probation then.

Lol!
I predict the LP is going to run some NeverTrump Republican loser in 2020, just like they did in 2016.
What other predictions do you have?
You have to subscribe to his newsletter to get those.
Pro tip: When traveling with illegal substances in your vehicle, don't exceed the speed limit.
Good advice, but I know that part of Texas and I doubt it would have made any difference.
Texas highway cops are the worst.
You really think that would make a difference? If they want to pull you over they just pull you over, then lie about it later. Guilty until proven innocent.
Driving under the speed limit in the middle of nowhere will get you pulled over because anyone not speeding must be going out of their way not to get pulled over.
Don't commit a crime when you're committing a crime. Nonetheless I'll support him especially because of this.
yeah, i recall it was a SWAT team...
..belonging to the US Parks' Department. Because *of course* the parks department need a SWAT unit. they nabbed a bag of shrooms and some firearms. surprised they didn't nail him on illegal poaching of fungi on Federal Land or something.
I don't like Kokesh much, but "The Man" seems to really be doing everything possible to validate his + Alex Jones worldview.
Aleck Jones would look nice in a Bass-o-Matic with Michael Moore. The two of them are to-a-tee representatives of their own wings of the Kleptocracy.
Yeah, I'm sure the notice went out immediately from the FEC to the Decatur,TX police department that Adam Kokesh had filed his Form 2. Right next to the all points bulletin for Deez Nuts and Vermin Supreme.
Puh-lease guys, take off the tinfoil hat. The chances that someone announcing their LP candidacy was noticed by anymore than his Facebook friends are slim at best. Even if they knew who he was ahead of time, would they even care?
He could win!
Libertarian moment!
It would be but for The Man keepin' us down.
The man is keeping you down for you own good, peons!
THATS JUST WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK
also, i think the more plausible 'conspiracy' is that Kokesh set himself up for arrest in order to get in the news (again)
Is McAfee essentially the best LP presidential candidate in the powerful Clinically Insane Caucus? I get the impression that he is by a mile.
I like the guy. I just wish he would at least listen to a 30-minute mp3 recording of the actual platform, and maybe read Atlas. Meanwhile there are lots of solid libertarians everywhere who know the platform, understand the definition of government and rights, and aren't into murdering doctors to please the Pope.
Probably a few Bitcoin multi-millionaires ready to run for the LP nom this time. Should be interesting.
Uh, because they're Texas pigs who don't like drug users and REALLY don't like people who think drugs should be legalized, thereby jeopardizing their holy war AND their very jobs? The fact he's not gonna win doesn't matter; it's the fact he even dares to question their authoritah that pissed them off. If you don't think those petty fucks keep track of shit like that you're fucking naive. Pigs will be pigs.
Kokesh's guns seem particularly important to him. Isn't he afraid of playing with fire all the time with respect to his civil rights? All it takes is one felony.
I'm not going to say, I wouldn't vote for him......yet.
Dude, literally no one but Reason (and not even most the people reading it) cares about the Libertarian party candidate.
Pretty sure more do care about that than your opinion.
Strangely enough, there were many here whining that Johnson wasn't enough (one thing or the other) in 2016, so here's your hat, what's your hurry?
He's not even "the" Libertarian Party candidate.
He's not even "the" Libertarian Party candidate.
The Republicrats don't care? I don't believe that for a second. They sure go to a lot of trouble to keep us off the ballot and out of the debates. I had a woman that was registering people to vote tell me that I wasn't allowed to register Libertarian even though the form said "Other" with a blank space beside it. I checked other anyways and wrote in Libertarian, and received a notice in the mail that I was registered L.
They also lie about our vote totals. Texas reporters in the eighties made unpersons of LP candidates with 20% of the vote, and probably do today. A Boulder, CO candidate just got over 20%, and that was purged from the papers. Hillary bawled and whined over the shortage of vote-swapping Libertarians like Penn Jilette. She was also pissed about the Econazi candidate whose spoiler votes covered the gap in a couple of states the energy-throttling prohibitionist Dems lost. You can bet the Dems will learn to spell legalize and deregulate.
Kokesh is on a list and cops look to harass him.
which is why he hadn't been pulled over for years before this.
I might be persuaded to care about the LP candidate again, if they'd resume running, you know, actual Libertarians as candidates. And drop the "liberalitarian" nonsense, though it's probably too late, their institution's already been marched through.
Hey, if he could get the stink of his affiliation with the Branch Davidians off him...
The smell of roast long pig?
Turn off your camera, we're going to start violating your rights and conduct an unconstitutional search.
And arrest you for an unconstitutional law.
possession of another controlled substance she was not able to specify
Balls?
This is why the LP can never have nice things.
He's just getting his Libertarian bona-fides in order. He's got a ways to go to catch up to McAfee though.
Who were police protecting? Who were the police serving? Who do the police serve? Was somebodies rights infringed? The point of police are to protect and serve the people . They were the nicest police I've seen on camera after cam was off don't know. All I see from video is revenue chasers.

Barring something super crazy happening, it really won't matter who runs again in 2020. They should pick a more serious and principled libertarian next time around and just "spread the good word" again. I will vote for whoever it is being that I'm in a solid Blue state.
Considering whoever the Dems run will almost certainly be bat shit crazy, I almost hope the LP runs a candidate who gets no votes in swing states at least... So far Trump is definitely seeming like the guaranteed lesser of two evils for 2020. I've typically not used that argument, and just said "Fuck the Republican nominee!" but that was with Romney, McCain, Bush, etc. I would actually be VERY interested to see the kind of crazy shit Trump might go for in a second term!
There is only one evil: coercion at the hands of the Kleptocracy. That one is handily minimized by Libertarian spoiler votes. I remember when the LP had sth like 4000 spoiler votes--that sufficed to strike down Dixiecrat coathanger abortion laws. From that to four million is... well... Ask Nick how many magnitudes of order that is. He probably knows.
Oh, also, if you don't want to be pulled over for some reason (say you had 1 or 2 drinks, and are under the legal limit, but don't want to be hassled by a cop and have to take a breathalyzer)... Don't drive 9 over the speed limit!
Everybody knows you should go 2-3 over the speed limit. That way you can't legally be pulled over (5 MPH rule basically everywhere uses), BUT it doesn't look like you're driving too slow specifically to avoid being pulled over. DUH. In an RV you could probably get away with doing the speed limit straight up and a cop wouldn't think it was too weird too I guess.
Easy rules of the road:
1. Stay out of Lane #1 unless completely unavoidable;
2. Don't slalom;
3. Don't tailgate;
4. Go with the flow of traffic but make sure there are other drivers faster than you
I've followed these rules for 3 decades and haven't had a single ticket in all that time.
Yup. I got my last ticket when I was 17 in highschool! Do things the right way, and shit don't go wrong. It's amazing how simple it is.
Ah well... thank goodness for schadenfreude. Scratch one communist infiltrator, nailed by his fellow totalitarians likewise cross-dressing as enforcers of rights and freedom. If only those same cops would bust a passel of LP-infiltrating coathanger abortion pushers and retaliators against semites who were mean to their blonde-Aryan Jayses myth personage back before there were written records.
At last! A candidate who actually walks the walk! Not in a straight line, of course, but who's quibbling?
I always liked some of what Adam Kokesh has done with his youtube interviews and things and have seen him speak a few times... but this whole last episode of him getting arrested then claiming it has to do with his 'running for president announcement', is transparently dumb. He was intentionally antagonizing the cops by pushing his POV and book, continuously giving them even more reason to search him "I'm a veteran-turned-activist", "I don't believe you have the right to stop me"... of course they are going to search him, whether you agree or not doesn't change reality. He is a convicted felon who was speeding and had drugs in the trailer. They were looking to write some tickets and get some money out of him, then decided they thought he was a fringe weirdo (which he was behaving exactly like one) so they guessed he probably had some illegal shit on him. And people are honestly thinking this is some sort of conspiracy? Geeeeesh, some of the tinfoil hats need to get a grip...
I hope Mr. Kokesh decides to sues for conspiracy against right section 185 and deprivation of rights section 1983. And does make the mistakes seen the inloctory appeal to the 11th Circuit 17-11404 Timothy Colburn, et al., v. Susan Odom,
